21st birthday celebration – Not mine though :P

October 8, 2009 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
My sis-in-law celebrated her 21st birthday last weekend at Oosh@Dempsey. She had a cozy party with about 20 friends and there was even a talk show segment where friends could pose questions about anything and everything.
Her birthday celebration brought back sweet memories of my 21st birthday celebration as well. JW planned a surprise birthday party for me at Jack’s Place and posted a touching heartfelt birthday greeting on The Heeren’s large billboard screen. He also got me my first little blue box, complete with a solitaire diamond platinum necklace. Reminiscing about my 21st birthday celebration still makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, but I think he was crazy to have spent so much.

Anyway, this was what I wore to the party. I think this is probably the last 21st birthday party that I’ll ever get to attend for age is fast catching up on me. πŸ˜›

Love my eye make-up that day but the camera didn’t manage to capture the colours well.

Jeju Island

October 3, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
I’m getting a little lazy when it comes to updating about my Korea trip, so I’m gonna make this a short one filled with pictures of Jeju Island.

This trip made me realize that I actually do enjoy climbing mountains and hills. I guess the daily walks to and from the MRT station (yes I take the MRT!!) also helped to build up my stamina.

You know, I used to be breathless after climbing a flight of stairs, but now I can climb a hill and not feel utterly exhausted!

Although it was the start of autumn, the sun was still scorching hot, hence you’ll see me wearing the same hat that I bought from a tourist shop at the foot of Mount Sorak. It goes with practically everything ;).

I was basking, not just in the hot sun, but also in the beauty of nature. There’s something about nature that soothes your nerves and dispels whatever negative energy in your body.

Doesn’t this remind you of Hawaii? Jeju Island is supposedly known as the Hawaii of Korea.

I went horseriding as well, albeit in a different location. The horse looks very tame and genteel here, but I had an exceptionally thrilling ride. In fact, I was hanging onto the reins for my dear life because the horse decided to race around the track a few times at lightning speed!!! The faint-hearted me thought that I was going to die any moment. πŸ˜›

Next up was the Teddy Bear Museum. I love bears and was very entertained by the amusing yet creative works of art.

This reminds me of someone. You know who you are. Haha. These two paintings are hilarious!!

I call this the Atas bear. Didn’t know bears had a thing for LV too.

And finally, here are our couple bears! Love them! I bought the girl from Korea, while JW got his from the recent army open house.

Don’t they just look fabulous together? πŸ˜‰

Everland and Lotte World

September 29, 2009 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
I love theme parks, not for the thrilling rides, but the magical atmosphere and fantasy environment that transport you back to the days when you were just a chlid. Theme parks bring out the child in us and allow us to escape into our imaginations.
Don’t we all wish that we never had to grow up to face the harsh realities of this world?

Everland
Everland reminds me of Disney land except that it has some pretty scary rides, such as the steepest roller coaster in the world! The service staff are so cheerful and bubbly, it really makes you feel like you’re in a fairy tale land.

I love carousels as they bring back childhood memories. I like that carousels always come complete with intricate carvings set in complementary royal colours. Its beauty is unrivaled by any other ride in all theme parks.

I used to love taking the roller coaster, viking and all, but I guess I have mellowed with age. Ouch.

There’s a small animal zoo for children within the theme park as well. The monkeys were so adorable! I never knew monkeys had a thing for soft toys. πŸ˜›

Lotte World

Before heading to Lotte World, we went to an apple farm where we could pick two apples each! All of us took great pains to examine the apples before plucking the biggest and rosiest ones off the tree.
They were amazingly sweet and juicy!!

Lotte World, in comparison, wasn’t as interesting as Everland. It didn’t help that the theme park was located right smack in the middle of commercial buildings. Totally spoils the landscaping if you ask me.

My outfit for the day. This is one of my favourite dresses because the skirt is made of tulle. πŸ˜‰
Some of the scenes in Stairway to Heaven were filmed at the carousel.

That’s all for now! Going off to nurse my bad throat. πŸ™

Busy times ahead

September 24, 2009 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
These two months are terribly busy for me as both work and personal plans are closely intertwined. While work is pretty enjoyable, I can’t wait for another holiday break, which takes place next month. ;). I’ll be heading to Japan again in Oct and it’s gonna be filled with pure, unadulterated fun this time with a good pal. Before I know it, I’ll be back there again in November for work. Makes me wonder if I should seriously consider taking up Japanese as a 3rd language.

I wouldn’t have time to blog this weekend thanks to F1, so if you’re gonna be there too, have fun!

I know I’m not done with my Korea posts, but I’d rather wait till I have more time on my hands before I continue.

In any case, here’s a casual outfit that I wore out on a Saturday, in an attempt to battle the scorching heat. My love for fierce heels never ends, does it?

Korea – Shinheungsa Temple

September 20, 2009 by Regina Chow 3 Comments
There are many similarities between Japanese and Korean culture, given that Korea was under the Japanese rule for a period of time. For one, like Japan, there are many shrines/temples in Korea. One example would be Shinheungsa Temple which lies at the foot of Mount Sorak.

The Buddha statue evokes a sense of calm and tranquility.

Despite cultural similarities, like Singapore, the older generation in Korea have a deep seeded dislike for the Japanese. Interestingly, these feelings of distrust or even hatred appear to be deeply entrenched in every stratum of the Korean society. For one, you can hardly find Japanese cars on the roads!

On a happier note, you know the saying that the grass is greener on the other side? Well, they forgot to add that the skies are bluer as well. I was very attracted to the azure sky decorated with white puffy clouds. These photos are true to life, as I have absolutely no idea how to use Photoshop and other editing software besides some basic functions in Picasa. πŸ˜‰

Last but not least, here’s the view from my hotel room at Sorak Daemyeung Resort. Skies are not as blue here as there was a slight fog.

More on Korea next time!

Korea – Mount Sorak

September 19, 2009 by Regina Chow 6 Comments
My mum and I took an 8-day package tour to Korea via SingExpress, a travel agency headquartered in Hong Kong and owned by Richard Li, Li Ka Shing’s second son. They have an office at People’s Park Complex in Singapore as well.
We decided to take up the tour package because the agency promised that we would stay in 5-stay hotels with almost all meals provided throughout the entire duration. I was duly impressed with the service rendered as well as the condition of the hotels. With the exception of the hotel at Mount Sorak, where we had to sleep on tatamis, the other hotels were pretty comfortable and well-furnished. The tour guides also went the extra mile to check everyone’s rooms upon check-in, a gesture which I really appreciated.

We took a red-eye flight from Singapore to Korea. Upon arrival at Incheon Airport, we were whisked off to a restaurant for a quick lunch of traditional barbecued pork and the usual Korean side dishes.

The food was delicious, even for a fussy eater like me. As you can tell, I only remembered to take photographs halfway into the meal. πŸ˜›

The next item on our itinerary was a visit to Mount Sorak, the third highest mountain in Korea. It is located on the east coast of the Korean Peninsula in the Taebaek Mountain range. The weather was magnificent and the view was nothing short of spectacular.

This was where we took our only group shot as well, which was a pity because everyone in our tour group got along fabulously with one another.
I was amazed by my mum’s stamina. We managed to reach the top of the mountain rather effortlessly. The reward? A breathtaking view of the beautiful scenery.
I was told that on the other side of Mount Sorak lies another mountain range named Mount Geungang, a North Korean tourist attraction. A South Korean tourist was apparently shot dead in Mount Geungang in 2008 by North Korean guards after she accidentally ventured into a North Korean military zone. Despite its negative publicity, I still hope to visit North Korea some day. One of my friends who has done so had rave reviews!

The view on the way down was equally captivating. We stopped several times just to take photos! Here are two of my favourite shots:

Gorgeous isn’t it?

Shirt Dresses

September 14, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
When I’m too lazy to dress up during the weekend, I’ll usually just pull out a dress from my wardrobe. Recently, I’ve taken a liking to shirt dresses, which are so easy to wear and extremely comfortable.

This is another piece that I got from Korea. πŸ˜‰ As you can probably tell as well, I can’t get my feet off those shoes!!

I’m resting in the comfort of my master bedroom on a Saturday afternoon with jazz music playing in the background while the contractors are busy installing our shoe cabinet and study room furniture.

Although I’m pretty much stuck at home today, with a messy home to clean up afterward, I feel surprisingly relaxed. I feel pampered lying on my 600-thread count Egyptian cotton bedsheets with my KFC cheesy fries and root beer. A quiet respite from the bustle, that’s what this is.

Incidentally, I also found some pictures of myself from past events that I attended, namely the inaugural F1 night race in 08 and the World Gourmet Summit in 09. I cropped away the other people who were in the photos to protect their privacy. πŸ™‚

ClubCouture is in Singapore!

August 23, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
If you are a shopaholic like me who enjoys experimenting with various styles to suit different occasions, you’ll be happy to know that there’s a new fashion label in town!

ClubCouture is an international fashion label that offers a wide range of fashionable and chic apparel in exciting designs! I have good news to share with all you fashionistas out there – the brand has just entered the Singapore market! Whether you’re looking for basic tops, sophisticated work outfits, funky streetwear or glamorous evening wear, you can be assured that you’ll find something that suits your style at ClubCouture.

What I also like about them is that their clothes are manufactured in-house in limited quantities to ensure exclusivity. No more worries about being caught dead in the same clothes as others when you’re walking down the busy streets of Orchard Road!

I just received my ClubCouture clothes 2 days ago, and boy was I impressed with the speed of delivery and packaging.

I really like the dresses that I chose from their latest collection:

1) Cherry Tube Dress

This is my favourite out of the lot! I love the cute cherry print and unique tuxedo cut-out in the middle of the bodice. The sweetheart neckline, coupled with the tailored silhouette, accentuates your feminine curves and is very flattering to the female form.

You can click on the pictures below for more details on this sexy little dress.

2) Lauren Crotchet Dress
I like dresses with crotchet lace and tulle hems as they make one look sweet and demure. This feminine number can either be worn as a tube dress or as a spaghetti strap dress depending on your preference. I wore mine as a tube dress paired with bright blue bra straps. Fierce heels add sass and personality to the combi too!

Likewise, you can click on the pictures below for more details on this lovely dress.

Tweed

August 15, 2009 by Regina Chow 6 Comments
A tweed jacket is a classic fashion piece that is extremely versatile and never goes out of style. Tweed escalated to high fashion status in the 1950s and 1960s thanks to the ubiquitous fashion icon, Coco Chanel. Not only is a tweed jacket appropriate for work, it doubles up as a smart jacket when paired with casual weekend outfits too.

Incidentally, the movie Coco before Chanel will be screened at the end of this month. There has never been a better time to get yourself a tweed jacket, especially when it is all the rage during this fall/winter season!

I have 3 tweed jackets in different styles, one in white, one in white and black and one in black and grey. Here’s presenting my latest buy, the black and grey tweed jacket. It’ll also look great with a pencil skirt for work or jeans for the weekend!
