A Day in Alquezar, Spain

September 9, 2011 by Regina Chow 3 Comments
Yesterday, we drove 30km out of Rodellar to another town by the name of Alquezar. It is a medieval city listed as a historical site in Spain.

Don’t you feel like you’ve been transported back in time? πŸ˜‰ Images of castles, kings, queens, knights and princesses came to my mind immediately. Playing make-believe has never been easier!

I love taking photos of dazzling sun rays peeking out from tree branches. So pretty!

Before we continued touring the town, we stopped by Narbona restaurant for lunch and an extended tea break thereafter. We had yummy cordon bleu for our main courses (we took the kid’s meal cos the portions are huge!). At 2 euros, you can also get yourself a glass of sangria, which is the same price as what a coke or coffee would cost!

Over here, the siesta starts from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, and families would gather for long, leisurely lunches together. Wish we could do that in Singapore too, where work-life balance is more of a myth, don’t you think? Unless you’re self-unemployed like yours truly. πŸ˜‰

After filling our tummies with sangria and oily fried food, we climbed up to the highest point of the town, where the Santa Maria La Mayor castle-collegiate church is. This church used to be a Muslim castle until it was conquered by the King of Aragon in the 1600s.

The gold plating and coloured wood carvings are well-preserved in its original glory, which is pretty amazing for something so ancient!

The Romanesque pillars also remind me of a romantic scene from the movie Great Expectations, where the child leads locked lips over a drinking fountain.

The mesmerizing view atop the clock tower of Santa Maria collegiate-church.

We spent the rest of our time walking through the pebbled streets and charming architecture of medieval origins.

Here’s what I wore to battle the sweltering heat.

Lace Ribbon Camisole from Forever New

White denim shorts from H&M

Along the way back, we passed by El Puente, a campsite with a beautiful arched bridge against the captivating backdrop of Sierra de Guara just as the sun was setting.

Sigh..I’m so gonna miss this place!!!!

Byebye Rodellar, and hello Barcelona.

Amelie Anne Soffieanne Cascading Dress

September 7, 2011 by Regina Chow 6 Comments

When the weather was less chilly last week, I threw on the Soffieanne Cascading Dress in Nude Cream, courtesy of Amelie Anne, for one of my rest days from hiking in Rodellar when I’ll wander around the picturesque town and chill out in quaint cafes with a glass of ice-cold coke (not beer) in the company of the scenic mountain view.

The Soffieanne Cascading Dress is such a breezy little number! This is another one of those dresses that will take you from work to play in the blink of an eye. Just slip on a pair of heels and you’re ready for work or put on those comfy flats (like I did!) for afternoon tea with your girlfriends.

The ruffle details at the side of the dress add a touch of femininity while its classic shift design makes it appropriate for formal functions. Again, versatility is always key when it comes to Amelie Anne‘s The Label Love collection.

This understated beauty comes in a wide array of colours, including Salmon Blush Pink, Peacock Blue and Midnight Blue. At Amelie Anne‘s, you’ll always be spoilt for choice! πŸ˜‰

Looking for retail therapy or some mid-week indulgence? Here’s Amelie-Anne to the rescue!

Happy shopping dearies! πŸ˜€

WIWT – Rodellar

September 5, 2011 by Regina Chow 5 Comments
Here’s a simple outfit I wore for shopping at Bershka in Huesca. πŸ˜‰ I’ve worn the skorts before but I like to pair staples like these with new tops for a completely different feel.

I received this dusky pink tank top with lace and ruffles from ClubCouture just before I left for my trip. The minute the wrapping came off, I knew I had to pack it into my luggage immediately.

Lace skorts from Fa Yuen Street, Hong Kong

White Sequin Flats from Mitju

Ribbon rosette hair clip from Far East Plaza

It can get pretty chilly here at night as temperatures dip drastically, signaling the beginning of the fall season. I’ll usually throw on a jacket to keep warm, and as the temperatures drop further, I’ll add on socks/leggings or change into my jeans.

This cropped Bershka jacket is one of the buys I scored today. The skull print lining is so cute and edgy, I knew I had to get it the moment I laid my eyes on it.

Have a great week ahead everyone!

Amelie Anne Becky Color Block Dress

September 2, 2011 by Regina Chow 5 Comments

Amelie Anne knows that the colour blocking trend has taken this year’s runway by storm and it’s probably the simplest fashion trend to emulate. If you find the juxtaposition of primary colours too gaudy for your liking, fret not, for subtlety is possible with colour blocking too! The Becky Colour Block Dress in Persimmon Sky from Amelie Anne is a fine example of how colour blocking and subtle elegance can go hand in hand. This Jil Sander inspired dress is from Amelie Anne’s The Label Love collection and everything from this label is specially manufactured to ensure exclusivity.

I love the versatility of the Becky Colour Block Dress. There are so many different looks that you can achieve with this dress and its cutting makes it suitable for work too.

You can either wear it on its own for a clean, minimalist look or layer it with the sheer chiffon piece which comes together as a set and can be worn either over or under the dress. Here, I wore the chiffon piece under my dress.

It also doubles up as a top when you tuck it into your pencil skirt for work or into your shorts for a casual weekend lunch.;) I personally think it’s a great piece to take with you when you travel!

If sophistication and versatility are what you look out for when you shop, head on down to Amelie Anne now!

Do photos reflect your mood?

August 21, 2011 by Regina Chow 6 Comments
Ruffle Cotton Top from MDScollections

Korean tulle floral skirt from Far East Plaza

I wore one of my favourite tulle skirts to lunch today and I could barely open my eyes for a photo under the blazing afternoon sun!

Coincidentally, the mood of this photo seems to reflect the rough week that I had due to some personal issues which I will not disclose here. All I can say is, I’ve finally understood the real meaning of the adage “true friends are only found in times of adversity”.

Perhaps everyone had different expectations, so perhaps nobody’s to blame for the situation. But I’m disappointed because of the way we were trampled on despite all that we have done, and while we all wish things could have been different, what is done is done and now it’s time for us to move on, come what may. Our worries and actions may have come to naught, but I always believe that every cloud has a silver lining. I believe tomorrow will always be a brand new day and that it’ll always be better than yesterday. πŸ™‚

Without forgiveness, life is governed by an endless cycle of resentment and retaliation. ~Roberto Assagioli

We are willing to forgive, but will the level of trust ever be the same again? I really don’t have the answer to that. Only time will tell.

Whatever happens, we will only wish the best for you, as always.

An Affair with Floral Prints & Ruffles

August 16, 2011 by Regina Chow 7 Comments
Pink puffed sleeve top from Korea

Floral print skorts from Platinum Mall, Bangkok

Pink skinny belt from Cache Cache

Diamonte butterfly flats from Mitju

To cheer myself up for my dental visit yesterday afternoon, I decided to put together an outfit with some of my favourite details such as floral print, ruffles, the colour pink and diamontes. This photo above was taken right after my wisdom tooth surgery so if you look closely, you’ll probably notice that my left cheek is a little swollen. I look like a chipmunk with a huge fishball stuck in my mouth.

I had two of my wisdom teeth extracted yesterday (normal extraction for the upper tooth and surgery for the bottom tooth) and to my surprise, the experience was completely painless. I’m not sure if the pain will only strike in a day or even a few days’ time but I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that this ordeal will be over in a jiffy.

I’ll write about my experience in another day or two so that I can give a more accurate account, so stay tuned if you’re interested to find out more. πŸ™‚

What I’m Wearing Today (WIWT)

August 12, 2011 by Regina Chow 10 Comments
WIWT stands for What I’m Wearing Today and I have tagged most of my outfit posts so everyone can just click on the “wiwt” label at my sidebar to view my outfits. πŸ™‚

This is what I look like after a movie, dinner, shopping, and drinks. Thank goodness I had my lace edge high socks from ClubCouture to keep me warm in the cinema.

Black ballet pumps from Tangs

This is totally random but I just made an appointment for my wisdom tooth surgery this coming Monday. I don’t have the jitters yet but I’m pretty sure I’ll freak out on the dentist chair. πŸ™ I’d better stuff myself silly in KL this weekend to prevent any weight loss thereafter!

Weekend Shopping

August 8, 2011 by Regina Chow 12 Comments
T-shirt and skirt from Korea (during my trip in 2009)

Floral mini luggage tote from Paper Market

Lace socks from Topshop

Booties from Bugis Village (comes with inner platform soles)

Some ladies requested for a full length photo of what I wore in my Peperoni Pizzeria post . Well, here it is. πŸ˜‰ I’ve reworn this ensemble on several occasions with different shoes, bags and accessories. The pretty mini luggage tote was a birthday gift from Andrina some time back.

Speaking of Andrina, we had so much fun shopping for affordable vintage clothes over the weekend at Bugis Village!

I bought this pink floral dress below.

But I was wondering if I should have gotten this grandma style-inspired dress as well. I’m smittened with the lace collar but somewhat doubtful about the colour and print.

On second thought, it makes me look like a school teacher from the 1970s. Haha.

Is it a yay or nay for you? (Tell me nay so I can save some money ok?:P)

Weekend Summer Style: Lace, Ribbons & Ruffles

August 6, 2011 by Regina Chow 9 Comments

Ruffle necklace from New Look

Reversible Tank Top from Platinum Mall, Bangkok

Lace Shorts from Fa Yuen Street, Hong Kong

Ribbon Heels from Platinum Mall, Bangkok

My ideal summer style incorporates feminine details such as lace, ribbons and ruffles as well as a pop of colour. That was the inspiration for this outfit. πŸ™‚

The weather here has been so unbearable that layering is not an option, so the next best alternative is to play around with different fabrics/details and accessorize with a statement necklace.

I especially adore my tiered lace shorts from Hong Kong because it is somewhat dressy yet casual at the same time. Perfect for a spot of shopping amid the sweltering heat.

What’s your favourite summer look like?

Hope everyone’s having an amazing weekend! Sleeping in and having late brunch are two of my favourite weekend activities. What are yours? πŸ˜€

Forty Hands Revisited

August 4, 2011 by Regina Chow 14 Comments
I visited Forty Hands when it first opened (read here) and was so impressed with their red bean bun (otherwise known as tao sar pau) that I kept wanting to go back on several occasions.
Well, I finally made it back again, but to my dismay, they ran out of their buns! I was there for brunch with my gf Yitian and was told that the buns would only arrive at 2pm as they had run out of them the day before. How disappointing.

Anyhow, it was a blessing in disguise because otherwise, we wouldn’t have tried their Truffle Mushroom Sandwich, which was an absolute delight. The rich fragrance of truffle oil was a perfect complement to the flavour of the mushrooms.

Yitian swears by their coffee. I swear by plain water here because the only non-coffee item on their menu is hot chocolate, which isn’t spectacular.

It was awfully crowded on a weekday. In fact, after we took this shot, all the tables around us were promptly occupied way before lunch time!

I will definitely be back again for another go at the red bean bun, but till then, here’s a closer look at my outfit for the day.

My gf Sushi picked out this lovely dress and bought it as an advanced birthday present for me. I was so touched by her sweet gesture! Thank you again dear!
