Cardigans

May 27, 2009 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
I have a penchant for cardigans. Their ability to dress up a simple outfit instantly is enough to make me buy 3 cardis in a month. Here’s just one of them:

A rare FOTD shot. I used to adore mascara, or sometimes falsies even, but I find them rather heavy on my eyes so I do without them these days. I am using EDM mineral powder, MM blusher, Bourjois liquid eyeliner and silkygirl black & white eyeshadow in this photo. Only after using these drugstore brands do I realize that they are actually pretty long-lasting and value-for-money. ๐Ÿ™‚

On a more sombre note, Singapore has just discovered its first case of H1N1 today. Not surprising at all, given that we have such an open economy and are welcoming to all visitors. What is worrying though, is how much longer do we have to wait before it becomes an epidemic? Although it is apparently less potent than what experts thought and the recovery rate is high if medical treatment is administered on a timely basis, I can’t deny that this is a worrying trend especially since I am expected to travel over the next 2 months!

Shopping

May 25, 2009 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
As you know, shopping is an integral part of my life, which explains the blog title. While there are days when I manage to suppress the urge to pick up new buys from my favourite shops, I generally cannot resist the impetus to pursue new objects of desire.

I haven’t been doing much this month as I was down with a really bad flu that lasted a grand total of 3 weeks. I still have so much phlegm in my throat that I wonder if I am a swallow incarnate.

Nonetheless, shopping still ranked high on my agenda as I went on a spree this month and am now feeling broke yet satisfied. I do spend within my means, so I am financially sound despite my spending habits. I could, and should save more though, but sometimes, giving yourself little treats does so much to lift one’s spirits.

Wasted

May 24, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
This week has been an exceptionally busy one as my colleague based in HK came back for some meetings that I arranged for. She’s madcap fun, and all of us ended up at Wala’s on Friday for farewell drinks. I think we had 20 tequila shots and 10 jugs of whiskey cola and vodka cranberry among 5 of us. We even saboed one of my colleagues on stage to dance a silly mambo dance, on the pretext that we were celebrating his birthday (not!). Eventually, all of us did the merlion except for the HK babe. ๐Ÿ™ No pics for the night though. Wasted!(singlish but pun unintended nonetheless :P)

An outfit that I wore last weekend. Was still sick then so that explains the pale face.

Breakfast

May 9, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
I like Riders Cafe. It is tucked away in a little corner, miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It can be rather crowded on weekends though. I always see expatriate families as well as tais-tais with their husbands and children in tow.

We go there for breakfast sometimes. I like the Riders Breakfast set, mainly because I love sunny-side up eggs. It also reminds me of the breakfast that my dad used to prepare daily when I was still staying at my parents’ place. I should really learn how to cook!!Riders BreakfastDecided to try the Eggs Benedict set this time. I wasn’t too fond of it because the eggs were too buttery sweet for my liking.

Ok..need to go off to blow my nose now. It’s running like a tap!

This week is a jinxed week for me.

First, I fell really ill. Fever, runny nose, sore throat and cough – well, you get the drift. That’s not all. I’m currently on the verge of losing my voice too.

And if you think that is bad enough, there’s worse to come.

I broke one of our wine glasses when I tried to put a bowl back into the cabinet yesterday night.
It shattered into what seemed like a million pieces. Glass bits were scattered around the sink, by the side of the sink and all over the floor.

I spent about half an hour cleaning up the mess, and for those who know me, such things do not happen to me because I am usually very careful!!

So anyway, I felt rather unwell at work today, so I left the office early to have some rest. Come dinner time, JW came home with a packet of fresh starfruit juice, which is supposed to be really beneficial for my throat.

Sadly, it ended up on the rug because I was drugged, having taken medication and all. I stupidly left the packet of starfruit juice sitting on my coffee table while I took a call from my boss.

In the wink of an eye, the juice erupted from the plastic bag, like lava from a volcano, and now, part of my rug smells like starfruit.

Goodness, I don’t really want to know what’s in store for me the rest of this week…..

Christian Lacroix

May 2, 2009 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Thursday night was a long night, entertaining guests at Jaan during the World Gourmet Summit. Thank goodness this weekend is a long one too! I have been suffering from bouts of headache and fatigue the past week, despite going to bed early. Perhaps I lack exercise??

Anyhow, here’s a really outdated post which I meant to write eons ago but just never got around to doing it.

There are a few designers whom I personally admire, and one of them has got to be French designer, Christian Lacroix (pronounced la-kua). Needless to say, I was ecstatic when I realised that the National Museum managed to convince the designer to exhibit his collection in Singapore. Lacroix started off as a costumier designing costumes for opera and theatre houses before he became an acclaimed fashion designer. Just in case you are wondering, Lacroix will be showcasing his Spring/Summer 2009 collection at St Regis during the Audi Fashion Festival next week.

More on Lacroix’s background (click to expand)

I was amazed by his detailed drawings, done entirely by hand. They are so beautiful that I would love to be able to hang them on my wall!

Ornate costumes for a period opera. Again, the intricate details swept me off my feet.

Costumes for Carmen by Bizet
Costumes for The Marriage of Figaro by MozartI couldn’t resist taking a picture with the chandeliers and plush armchair.

Thereafter, we dropped by an interior design exhibition featuring works of renowned Scandinavian designers. I especially like this chair, which looks like two halves of a chair joined together at the opposite ends.

Then, we started fooling around with the lightbulb housed within a cardboard box. No matter how I tried, I just didn’t look like I was deep in thought, so I decided to act cute instead.
Unlike me, JW always looks like he is deep in thought, even if he is thinking about what to eat next or when would be a good time to climb.
I love visiting museums, but unfortunately, there aren’t many noteworthy exhibits or artefacts to be viewed in the local musuems, which is a real pity. However, I must say that Novus cafe is a cozy place to hang out in.

It vaguely reminds me of the cafes in Europe and China (yes you’ll be surprised, there are so many quaint cafes there!). I wish the cafe culture here could have more originality, for it’s a pain seeing the same coffee chains setting up outlets at every corner of our little island.
