Weddings & New Furniture

July 26, 2009 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

We recently attended our JC classmate, Jo’s wedding, which also turned out to be a mini JC class reunion of sorts. The bride was demure and ravishing while the groom was sporting and hilarious – a perfect match made in heaven indeed.

Weddings generally entail massive expenditures, most of which will go to the wedding banquet, gowns, photography, and last but not least, a well-furnished new home. Although my wedding took place about 6 months back, we are still buying new furniture. We are also doing some minor renovations. How appalling!

Here’s our new baby: Grand Illusion by John Brauer from Denmark. It was handmade using 3mm of transparent acrylic. Doesn’t it look like a floating table? Ingenious isn’t it?

Well, this beauty set us back by $750 after 15% discount. Sometimes I wonder how we manage to finance such extravagant indulgences.

Time to eat more grass I guess for the next few months, by which time, I should have transformed into a cow.

Goodnight for now! Coming back in a few days…

D&D

July 20, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
It’s time for our annual D&D again! Interestingly, I’m one of those strange people who get to attend two company D&Ds annually (excluding JW’s). This is the first D&D I’m attending this year and boy was it fun!

The performance put up by my colleagues was so hilarious that I couldn’t take my eyes off the stage. The comic elements were further amplified by an unconventional heroine named 大娘惹 (acted by my guy friend).

大娘惹 sang the song Bangawan Solo (including bits and pieces about sharing her wonderful kueh lapis with her future husband) with so much soul that it drew guffaws from the audience. The dance moves and professional acting skills of my other colleagues were very commendable as well. It was akin to watching a musical by our local theatre talents.

The theme was international and most of my department colleagues came in the Peranakan costume to support our play. Yours truly had no time to source for costumes though my paternal grandma is apparently Peranakan haha…Sigh. Instead, I went for the Gothic Lolitha look.

Louis Vuitton @ Ion Orchard

July 19, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
I was at LV@ Ion Orchard on Friday and I must say the service was immaculate! The sales assistant serving me not only offered friendly feedback on what he thought looked good on me, he also gave me tips on bag maintenance. What I really liked about his service was the affable yet professional image that he portrayed, coupled with a suitable amount of small talk. You know how some SAs irk the hell out of you with their incessant chatter, but he was able to strike a balance and not go overboard, which is regrettably very rare in Singapore’s context. The best part was, he even escorted me all the way to the door while thanking me profusely for my patronage.
I am pretty critical about service standards, and I am guilty of boycotting stores that do not not meet the mark in this respect. In fact, I have never quite liked shopping in LV stores in Singapore, but the flagship store at Ion Orchard certainly changed my perspective.

Well, and if you’re curious about what I bought, here is my new purchase (i.e. it’s time for me to eat grass).

Sale Post

July 11, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
I need to clear some space in my wardrobe, and I decided that this would be an opportune time for me to share my dresses with you girls. 🙂 These are either brand new or have only been worn out once/twice. For your reference, I am 1.6m tall and usually wear UK6/XS.
If you’ll like to get any of these items, please leave a comment with your name and e-mail address or e-mail me directly at regina.chow@gmail.com. Prices are inclusive of normal mail postage.

Thanks babes!

1) Grey Bandage Dress (without inner black tube) – Brand New

Bandage dresses are all the rage now. Need I say more? This is made of very comfy, soft cotton and would fit S-M sizes. Match this with a pair of fierce heels to achieve the city chic look.

$15 – Sold

2) Ribbon Checked Dress – Worn twice

I love ribbons, hence I couldn’t resist getting this cute dress adorned with 7 little bows at the neckline. It’s a structured dress and would be appropriate for work when paired with a jacket(albeit a little short for me). ;). Fits XS – S.

$14

3) Candy Pink Dress – Worn once
Cute cotton bib dress with adjustable straps – you can wear it as a halter or a spaghetti strap dress. Comes with little floral motifs and gold rose buttons at the bib. Bib is made of chiffon. Fits XS – S.

$16

4) Smocked Summer Dress – Brand New
This is such a sweet summer dress, complete with polka dots (I have a soft spot for polka dots too!) and cheerful floral prints. Made of cotton and can be worn both on and off-shoulder. Fits XS- SM

S$15

4) Navy Blue Toga Dress – Worn once

This is one of my favourite dress. Toga dresses are sexy and flirty, yet not too revealing. This alluring dress is especially feminine as it has cascading frills on one side. How very charming!

S$17 – Sold

Enjoy!

Leisurely Days…are over

July 10, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
I was feeling rather burnt out from work, so I decided to take a 3-day break last week. It’s been a while since I last took leave and the feeling of being away from work was absolutely liberating, although that didn’t stop my cell phone from ringing sporadically.

I initially wanted to book a spa session, but it didn’t materialize as I had just gone on a spa retreat to Batam with colleagues the previous weekend. Shopping was next up on the list. Not too bad an idea since shopping at Orchard Road on weekday afternoons is an indulgent luxury. It was pretty eventful, and I even shocked a sales assistant with my numerous shopping conquests. 😉

Besides shopping, I caught two movies as well, namely Transformers 2 and Duplicity. Movies with brainless plots (e.g. Transformers) are my cup of tea. The flow of Duplicity’s storyline was somewhat disjointed, and the movie was trying too hard to complicate a simple plot. It would have been a flop if not for Julia Roberts.

What I wore on one of those days:

I recently had a haircut at Estique, and I must say it is my favourite salon thus far. Say bye to bangs and limp hair. Hello to newfound volume and a wispy side fringe.

My old hair – for memory’s sake.

Joy is…

July 4, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments

Having 12 sticks of the best satay and bubble tea for dinner 😉

No one, not even my husband, believes that I actually queue up for satay at a hawker centre.

Yes, I do.

For a good 20 minutes every time, mind you.

What can I say? I really love good hawker food!!

Tiers and Chiffon

July 1, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
Tiered dresses, tops and skirts are my latest craze now, especially those made of chiffon. The tiers provide texture and dimension to petite silhouettes, accentuating curves at all the right places. The softness of chiffon also adds movement to an ensemble.

I wore a translucent flared skirt beneath this dress to further enhance movement. The flared skirt is a gem that I found in a shop at FEP, and can be used to enhance the functionality as well as aesthetic value of an outfit. Not only can it lengthen a short dress to make it appropriate for work, it also lends a touch of femininity to tunic tops and dresses. Now all I need is a jacket to head out to work!
