Nana’s Wedding :D

November 25, 2007 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

My blog is fast becoming a wedding blog.

I attended Nana’s wedding last Friday, where JW & I had the honour to be the emcees for the night. Haha. JW spoke English while I spoke Mandarin.

It has been a while since I last spoke formal Mandarin. Thankfully, I was still rather fluent although we did not rehearse the script at all (right, Nana?? HAHA).

JW & I literally rushed down from work at 615pm, only to reach Raffles Hotel at 645pm. The CBD jam was horrendous and the cars were travelling at snail’s pace. I hurriedly changed out of my office attire at Raffles Hotel before proceeding to the ballroom at 7pm. Fortunately, we arrived in the nick of time, if not I think Nana would have lapsed into a state of panic hahaha.

Nana’s wedding was a very warm and cosy affair. She had about 10 tables in the Casuarina Suite and there was a lot of mingling and photo-taking with the bride and groom, very unlike the usual wedding banquets, where the wedding couple darts from one table to another with hardly any interaction due to time constraints.

The ballroom was illuminated by glowing chandeliers and tastefully embellished with textured ornate draperies and plush seats, adding grandeur and elegance to the occasion. As a guest, I was very happy to be able to share the ceremonial bliss of my lovely friends. Needless to say, the bride looked gorgeous in her stunning Victorian-inspired gown, complete with intricate embroidery and beading details. On the other hand, the groom, beaming with pride (having won the heart of his fair maiden :P), wore a radiant smile on his face throughout the evening. It was one of the loveliest wedding ceremonies I have attended so far, and I thoroughly enjoyed basking in the glow of the wedding couple.

Nana, I look forward to receiving the photos from you!!! πŸ˜€ I want to post here can? πŸ˜› I don’t dare to post the one that we took together using my camera because you insisted it was very ugly although I swear it’s not πŸ˜‰

Just to share some photos that I took during the banquet:

My outfit for that day. It’s not as shiny as it looks in the photo. πŸ˜›

JW & I hopped over to Barfly at Clarke Quay after the ceremony as the night was still young. Can’t remember what he was drinking, but I had Aphrodisiac.

We’ve heard many raves about Barfly, but we both thought that it was just above average. Perhaps we should try out the food dishes next time. πŸ™‚

I really liked the chandeliers at Barfly though.
Hm well actually, I just have a penchant for chandeliers. I like all sorts of chandeliers hahaha.
I’m looking forward to receiving Nana’s wedding photos soon! πŸ˜€

*****************************

On a separate note, I have been told by many recently (those who don’t know me very well) that I look very “atas” (slang for people who live the high life). Haha I think it’s partly due to my grooming, my curry puff hairstyle and maybe my “come-save-me” look?!

I don’t always go for the finest things in life and as some of you may know, I do not have very deep financial resources to tap into. Besides, I am definitely much friendlier than your other so-called “atas” people, some of whom could be very arrogant. I’m not as “princessy” as I look lah pls, and neither am I very prim and proper. πŸ˜›
Don’t believe? Ask JW Hahaha. He claims I am very fierce, violent and that I behave like a boy. πŸ™

Looks can be deceiving!! πŸ˜‰

Celebrations

Baby Chloe’s First Birthday

I attended baby Chloe’s first birthday celebration recently. It’s amazing how kids seem to grow up so rapidly. The last time I saw this little princess, she was just a little bigger than the length of my forearm. Within the blink of an eye, she is now walking and dancing to the infectious beats of pop music.

Her mum, Reyna, is one of my good friends. Until now, I still can’t quite believe she’s a mum. Haha!! She ‘s still so youthful and slim. Ah..the perks of being a young mum. πŸ™‚

I can’t imagine ever being pregnant though. The thought of giving birth scares the daylights out of me, not to mention the aftermath of pregnancy, which involves weight gain, stretch marks, sleepless nights.

Come to think of it..the young mums I know don’t seem to have these problems actually. If anything, their weight gain seems to go to their bust!! πŸ˜‰

Hmm..okay..maybe I’ll think about giving birth within these couple of years. Not until after marriage of course.

Huifen’s Wedding

There’ve been so many wedding dinners and receptions. I’m starting to have a hard time keeping count and remembering the dates.

Huifen is a friend I got to know through my translation course. It has been 2 years since we graduated from the course, but many of us remain close friends to date. Sigh..I miss those times!! Every time we meet up, we can’t help but reminisce about the good old days in Beijing. I guess the Beijing leg of the course really brought us closer together. We had so much fun despite the grueling classes.

We did our assignments together, cooked our meals together, went out to play together and went to school together. They even celebrated my birthday with me!

All the people you see in the photos that follow are probably the most effectively bilingual people I know in the whole of Singapore (minus me..I’m like half past six, if you know what I mean :P).

Lim Tim, Ash, Me & Karen

Yoke Hui, Tung San, Bee Furn & Soh Din

Ash & me are telepathic! We were dressed in the same colour scheme. We were room mates in Beijing. That explains the chemistry. πŸ˜‰

During the wedding dinner last night, Karen/Tung San recalled a particularly memorable incident that happened in Beijing.

Late one night while we were doing our assignments in Yoke Hui’s room, bare-faced and clad in our dowdy pyjamas, we got bored and decided to play with my make-up. I literally brought over my entire stash of cosmetics (ya i’m like the vainest of them all) to her room, where we unleashed the prowess of our make-up skills. Karen tried her hand at blending bright clashing shades on her eyelids. Sounds strange I know, but we all agreed the look suited her very much!

I did smoky eyes for Yoke Hui, which turned out really well in my opinion. However, when I tried it on Tung San, somehow she turned out looking like a panda hahaha. Thankfully, the Beijing zoo keepers were fast asleep at that unearthly hour, if not our poor Tung San would probably never have made her way back to the sunny island of Singapore! For all we know, Tung Tung could have become the next big thing in the Beijing Zoo *chuckles*.

We all had such great fun doodling on each other’s faces till the wee hours of the morning that we forgot to take photos. But evidently, the fond memories that remain etched in our minds never fail to bring smiles, laughter and endless chatter to the table. πŸ™‚

I love these people!!

JW & I celebrated his birthday at Morton’s recently. I booked a table there and told them that I was celebrating my bf’s birthday. To my surprise, not only did they tell me that he would be served a warm chocolate cake (on the house!!), they also decorated the table, gave us a nicely framed snapshot of ourselves, and sang JW a birthday song!!

The servers were quite the jesters, and their service was immaculate. The steak, though rather tasty, paled in comparison to the steak we had at The Cliff@Sentosa (which also had a better ambience even though the price is about the same).

I also couldn’t help but notice that the servings at Morton’s were large enough to feed an entire village in Ethiopia.

Haha just check out the generous steak portion and the gigantic asparagus!! It was a waste because I couldn’t finish eating my portion. I was quite tired after a hard day’s work too and I looked like a wreck next to my ever so youthful bf haha.

Well…that aside, both of us agreed that the experience and service were definitely worth it. πŸ™‚

I took Friday off and had a super long weekend, during which I had very little sleep and ended up sick. That explains why I am blogging today. I am at home. πŸ˜›

Some narcissistic shots of myself – I have not done this in quite a while cos I could never quite afford the time. Took these while JW was catching a wink on my sofa yesterday haha.

I slept barely 5 hours the night before, but I really like my new T-shirt. It has a skull tie printed on it.
Going off to shower and do some work!!! Oh wait..need to see the doc first..SIGH.

Conversations with the bf

November 4, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
Whenever I engage in a conversation with my bf, he never fails to amuse me.

Me: Did you read the newspapers today?

JW: Ya I did.

Me: Oh so did you read the money section? (I wanted him to fill me in on any new financial/economic developments cos he reads the papers more regularly than I do. He usually reads the papers quite thoroughly.)

JW: (very enthusiastically) No, but I read the comics in Life! section and they were really funny!!!!

Me: -_-“”””

On a separate note, I received a job offer from a private bank recently. I’m very flattered but I think it may be a little premature for me to move on at this moment. Will see how it goes first. πŸ™‚
