Make a Statement with Mistress of Glam!

November 30, 2013 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

An
outfit is never complete without accessories and it is certainly not hard to see why. Stylish accessories pull
your look together and add the finishing touches to any ensemble.
When
it comes to accessorizing, I always believe that less is more.
Sometimes, a pair of statement earrings, like this gorgeous asymmetrical pair from Mistress of Glam, is all it takes to dazzle the crowd and steal the limelight.

www.mistressofglam.com
Dainty baubles and pearls complement the vintage charms used in this delicate work of art specially put together by Queena, the creative lady behind Mistress of Glam.
What amazes me the most is that unlike most statement earrings which can be very heavy and a pain to wear, this pair of earrings is actually incredibly light-weight. I could hardly feel a thing on my ears! You will be happy to know that all the statement earrings that you find on Mistress of Glam are rather light (unless otherwise stated) and won’t weigh you down, which means you can wear them all day long without any issues!
www.mistressofglam.com

I brought these beautiful earrings with me on my recent Bali trip, where JW and I spent most of our time lazing in our villa at Alila Uluwatu. While a flowy, feminine dress with lace and ruffles would have been the natural choice for such a glamorous pair of earrings, I chose to push the envelope a little and went for a more playful, nautical look instead.

  Dress from Dustbunny Vintage
In my opinion, statement earrings are best worn in the absence of necklaces, and earrings like these are the perfect accompaniment to halter necklines. Don’t you think these lovely baubles lend a little sparkle to my vintage sailor dress?

Now that Christmas is just around the corner, there are more reasons to dress up your party dresses with jewellery accents. Mistress of Glam’s statement pieces could very well do the trick! They would make great Christmas gifts for your girlfriends and loved ones as well!

*******

Mistress of Glam will also be setting up a stall at Public Garden (Level 16, Triple 1 Somerset) from 7th – 8th December, 1pm – 7pm. You will also receive a 5% discount when you purchase 2 items and a 10% discount when you purchase 3 items!

Now, here’s the good news:

All my readers will be entitled to an 8% discount for every purchase! All you have to do is to let Queena know that you are “Regina’s reader”.

Do pop by next weekend to check out more of Queena’s gorgeous works!

My Dream Wardrobe – The One-Stop Shop for Luxury Labels

November 29, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments

www.mydreamwardrobe.com.sg

My Dream Wardrobe is a newly launched online one-stop portal for all your luxury needs. With a plethora of pre-owned and brand new luxury products across all categories and highly coveted designer brands such as Hermes, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Prada, it has everything you need to complete your dream wardrobe!

What is interesting about this new portal is that it caters to both
buyers and sellers alike, hence resellers or individuals like you and me
are welcome to advertise our pre-owned and brand new luxury goods for sale too!

www.mydreamwardrobe.com.sg

My Dream Wardrobe possesses an expanding stable of both pre-owned and brand new luxury goods, with new items being added everyday. You can buy or sell anything and everything ranging from bags, accessories, small leather goods, apparel and even watches!

Honestly, it is quite the wonderland for luxury goods aficionados. I was especially tempted by the dazzling array of designer bags in a gamut of brands, styles, shapes and textures. Choosing the perfect bag takes time. After all, a bag is not just a place for storing your belongings. It is a extension of yourself, which defines your personal style. With My Dream Wardrobe, one click is all it takes to revel in your favourite designer labels and purchase the latest IT bag!

www.mydreamwardrobe.com.sg
 www.mydreamwardrobe.com.sg

How does My Dream Wardrobe compare against similar luxury online portals or stores that offer used and brand new luxury goods? In my opinion, here are some of its unique selling points that set it apart from its competitors in the market:

Benefits for both Buyers & Sellers

1) My Dream Wardrobe was developed by Mari-Ads Pte Ltd, an established advertising company based in Singapore, which lends credibility to the set-up.

Benefits for Buyers

1) It is the only portal in Singapore that verifies the mobile numbers and email addresses of advertisers. Buyers can be assured that the sellers advertising on My Dream Wardrobe are 100% genuine.

 2) Unlike many portals, My Dream Wardrobe charges sellers a fee for advertising with them to weed out insincere buyers and spam.

Benefits for Individual Sellers

Merchants selling pre-owned and brand new luxury products can benefit from My Dream Wardrobe as it provides an additional platform for advertising your products and can complement your existing marketing strategies.

What about individual sellers like you and me? With the rise of instagram and online resellers in the market which are fast gaining popularity with individuals sellers for listing both used and luxury goods, what is it that My Dream Wardrobe offers that gives it a competitive edge?

Well, here’s the deal:

1) The contact verification system offered by My Dream Wardrobe gives buyers the assurance and confidence to make purchases.

2)  The search function on My Dream Wardrobe allows buyers to zoom into a specific brand or product, without them having to waste time scrolling through pages after pages of products that may not be of any interest to them. Buyers can immediately find the products of their desire at their fingertips, which increases the probability of purchase.

On the contrary, one of the pitfalls of advertising with instagram resellers is that the multitude of items posted daily may result in your item getting lost in a sea of other products on sale. The lack of a search function on instagram also means that more often than not, you have to leave everything to chance.

3) More importantly, the advertising charges are very reasonable compared to most instagram resellers which charge anything from S$5 – S$50 per listing.

Each advertisement on My Dream Wardrobe costs just $3 for 8 weeks!  This is a special promotional price offered by My Dream Wardrobe in line with the soft launch of its new website and each advertisement is slated to be priced in the region of S$10-S$15 after the official launch, so be sure to take advantage of the deal while it lasts!

If you are interested in posting an advertisement, here are 3 easy steps to go about doing it.

I have also posted the steps below for your easy reference:

www.mydreamwardrobe.com.sg

I am sure many of us
have pre-loved or brand new luxury goods that have not seen the light of
day in a while. Well, maybe it is time to give your bags, watches or
apparel a new lease of life by putting them up for sale on My Dream Wardrobe!

Now
that you have more space in your wardrobe, you can also take the
opportunity to kill two birds with one stone and take a peek at what

Hair Tutorial: How To Style An Updo In 5 Minutes!

November 24, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments
I love experimenting with new hairstyles and am constantly on the lookout for new styles that are easy to pick up and don’t take up too much of my time since I’m always on-the-go.  This twist updo that you see here is one of my favourite go-to hairdos as it is a breeze to style and takes all but 5 minutes!

This updo is so versatile, it can easily take you from day to night. I personally think it would make a fantastic hairstyle for bridesmaids too.
Step 1

Separate your hair into 2 parts down the middle.

Step 2
Separate each part further into 2 sections. You will end up with 4 sections in total.

Step 3

Twist each section, starting with the outermost section.
Step 4
Roll the twisted section into a little bun.
Step 5

Secure the ends of the bun with bobby pins. I prefer to use brown bobby pins (as opposed to the black ones) as they blend in much better with my hair colour. If you’re interested, I got mine from Watsons.

Step 6
Repeat steps 3-5 until all your hair is twisted and bunned up!
Steps 7 & 8
Accessorize with a flower pin or a cute bow of your choice to complete the look!

Here’s a pictorial recap of all the steps:
Hope you found this tutorial useful!
I’ll be sharing more hair tutorials here, so do keep a lookout for them!

Naoki Yoshihara by Ash: Japanese Hair Salon in Singapore!

November 19, 2013 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

Naoki Yoshihara by Ash is one of the few authentic Japanese hair salons that I have come across in Singapore. If you have been following my blog, you would know that my good friend Karen and I are both ardent fans of Japanese fashion, beauty products and hairstyling, hence we absolutely couldn’t hide our excitement when my friend Iwai-san contacted us for a hairstyling session at his salon at Liang Court.

I wanted to touch up my roots and trim my ends, while Karen wanted to tone down her bright red rock-style hair for a more work appropriate look. Selecting the right hair colour to suit your skin tone and personal style is an art, and you can certainly trust Naoki Yoshihara by Ash to do it right.

Unlike most hair salons, where you dive straight into selecting a hair colour based on the latest trends, we first had our skin tone analyzed by Japanese makeup and personal image consultant, Miki Sakazaki (featured above) to better ascertain which colours would suit us best.
The consultation revealed that my skin is yellow-based and spring colours (as shown in the coloured papers below) would accentuate my skin tone and features. I was deeply
impressed by the very detailed consultation. It only goes to show how
meticulous and customer-oriented the salon is.

It was pure coincidence that Karen and I both turned up at the salon in the same white Liz Lisa maxi dress. While I was told that white and beige hues flatter my skin tone very well, Karen found out that she should steer clear of white because of her blue-based skin tone, hence summer colours and even colours like black would suit her better. Unfortunately for me, Sakazaki san shared that black is a colour that I should avoid wearing. Looks like I need a massive overhaul of my wardrobe as most of my corporate wear are black!

The good news was, my existing hair colour worked well with my skin tone, hence Creative Director Masami Kuramochi decided that all I needed was a trim and a touch up of my hair colour and I was good to go!

I was amazed by Kuramochi san’s artistic eye, and the way he wielded his scissors with utmost confidence as he sculpted my hair with his deft hands. Much to my delight, he also gave me fuller bangs for a dolly look which I very much adore.

If you are wondering why my hair looks so shiny immediately after colouring, the secret lies in Kerastase’s Cristalliste Serum. Its non-greasy, weightless formula adds luminosity and shine to your hair without weighing it down, leaving you with glossy, lustrous locks.

Then, it was image consultant Sakazaki san’s turn to work her magic on my face.  She cleansed my face thoroughly and applied a special range of placenta-based skincare before make-up application.
The La Precia Placenta skincare products that you see here are renowned for their anti-aging properties as well as positive effects on allergy-prone skin. They are directly imported from Japan, but if you are interested in purchasing them, you can look for Sakazaki san at her shop, Miki Trinity (housed within Eye Studio Tokyo), on the 3rd floor of Liang Court.

Here are the make-up products, predominantly from Chanel and Jill Stuart, that she used on me.

The final result was a fresh, flawless natural look, achieved with neutral shades of brown and pink to complement my skin tone. I loved the overall effect of the make-up and my beautifully styled hair.

Thank you once again to Kuramochi san and Sakazaki san for the pampering session and for making Karen and myself look just as gorgeous as the Japanese ladies. I used to get my hair done in Japan whenever I had the opportunity to head to Tokyo for work, but now, I can finally have my hair styled by highly skilled Japanese hairstylists in Singapore!
Good Japanese hair salons are hard to come by in Singapore, so if you love Japanese hairstyling, be sure to check out Naoki Yoshihara by Ash!

FIDe Fashion Week 2013: Alexis Mabille & Julien Fournié (French Designers)

November 17, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments

FIDe Fashion Week 2013

I attended the Alexis Mabille and Julien Fournié fashion shows at Fashion Week 2013 with Karen and Jessie, presented by The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and organized by FIDe Fashion Weeks.  The gorgeous works of art by the talented French designers were a feast for our eyes. That, coupled with the great company I had, concocted the perfect recipe for a wonderful night out.
Before I delve deeper into the details of the fashion shows, here are some pictures of my outfit. I picked out an all white ensemble for a clean, crisp look that evening. Subtle details and textures were added to add interest and dimension.

Shirt from City Plaza
Skirt from Ching at Far East Plaza
Bag from Hermes
Necklace from H&M

Shoes from Vince Camuto

The intricate lace details were the perfect embodiment of femininity and the main highlight of the outfit. To complete the look, I added a chunky art nouveau necklace in bold hues and a bright blue birkin to lend a pop of colour to the otherwise monotone palette.
The gorgeous lace shirt you see here was actually a surprise find from City Plaza. I love mixing designer labels with street wear as I personally think that this gives the entire ensemble more character and individuality.

Alexis Mabille
French Haute Couturier Alexis Mabille kicked off his show with his A/W 2013/2014 Collection with the mood, colours and silhouettes inspired by the Italian Giovanni Boldini. The collection, in my opinion, was the epitome of femininity with the ingenious pairing of pastel pink, muted dove grey and mint with glamorous touches of gold and silver. Mabille’s signature bow motif was incorporated into every ensemble. Accompanied by tailored silhouettes, dramatic shapes and elegant embellishments, a breathtakingly beautiful collection was created.

Julien Fournié
Closing the show that very evening was Julien Fournié, a recognized invited member of the La Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. Fournié has worked with brands such as Celine and Jean Paul Gaultier, and is certainly one of the most notable designers to watch.
For Fashion Week 2013, Fournié was the man of the hour as he showcased his own Haute Couture collection, as well as a collaboration collection with Singapore’s Love Bonito!

Fournié’s collection showcased 22 outstanding looks with an elongated feminine silhouette inspired by Italian painter and sculptor, Modigliani, who worked largely in France. Fournié’s signature silhouette also portrays the Chimera, a mythical animal.
He showed sinuous silhouettes and exaggerated the elongation with sky-high stilettos by Walter Steiger, strategically placed crystals, leather strips, fur trims and hand-painted prints by his good friend, artist Anbraude. It all looked simple, but the execution was pure Haute Couture in terms of its tailoring and fit.

FIDe Fashion Week 2013: MCM "Flower Boys In Paradise" Fashion Show

November 14, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments
If you follow me on my instagram (@reginachow_sg), you may have already seen a preview of my outfit for the MCM Fashion Show at FIDe Fashion Week recently.

My #ootd for the #mcm fashion show at #fidefashionweeks . More pics on reginachow.blogspot.com next week!

As promised, I have also included more pictures of my outfit that day in this blog post. This outfit was put together at the very last minute as I had to rush off to work in the day before heading directly to Marina Bay Sands in the evening for the MCM Fashion Show.

I bought this eye-catching blouse and skirt set from Ching at Far East Plaza a while back and what strikes me most about this outfit is the poufy structure of the skirt, which lends dimension as well as a touch of edginess to the ensemble.

The colour and embossed material are two other aspects that caught my attention. I love the colour gold, and if you notice, most of the bags I carry, including the Loewe Amazona bag that you see here, come with gold hardware. Somehow, gold complements my skin colour much better than silver, which tends to wash me out.
The embossed material, on the other hand, adds texture and interest to the otherwise plain canvas. I particularly adore how the embossed texture accentuates the sheen of the metallic gold hue and is able to capture all the tones of this brilliant colour from different angles.

Outfit from Ching
Bag from Loewe

Accessories from Cc Skye and Forever21
Shoes from Aldo
Now, here’s presenting MCM’s Spring/Summer 2014 Collection, “Flower Boys in Paradise”. Featuring a kaleidoscope of tailored, genderless silhouettes and shapes as well as an array of floral and classic Visetos motifs, MCM’s latest collection celebrates the spirit of Spring through carnival colours such as poppy red, electric yellow, neon green and metallic gold, juxtaposed against wild, exotic prints.
Each piece in this collection pays tribute to sophisticated and urban utopias for discerning globetrotters internationally. The duster coat and motorcycle jacket were given a fun interpretation while MCM’s signature bags were given a unique twist with the ingenious use of pop colours and floral motifs. The result is a fresh, invigorating collection, never before seen at MCM.

Shopping in Seoul – Best Places to Shop!

November 9, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments
Shopping in Seoul is a fantastic experience, to say the least. Korean beauty brands and the latest K-pop streetwear can be found in every nook and cranny at affordable prices. If you are thinking of emulating your favourite K-pop idols’ fashion sense, you definitely ought to shop in Seoul!
1) Myeongdong
Shopping in Seoul inevitably conjures up images of Korean beauty brands such as Laneige, The Face Shop, Etude House, Innisfree, and my favourite Nature Republic (love their aloe vera gel!), among others. While most of these brands can be easily found in Singapore, there’s something different about these shops in Korea that makes the shopping experience more appealing to shopaholics like me!
If you’re looking for beauty products, Myeongdong is the place to go!
Credits: www.korea.net
My most recent trip to Seoul was in July this year, together with Alvin and Grace to catch the Asian Premiere of Wolverine. Grace and I stayed at Skypark Myeongdong, an excellent hotel right smack in the heart of Myeongdong. The minute we stepped out of our hotel, we could see Innisfree across the road and a myriad of other beauty brands just a stone’s throw away.
The exciting part about shopping for beauty products in Seoul is that every shopper is entitled to freebies! The sales assistants hand out free masks or product samples the minute you step into the shop, before any purchase is made. Everyday without fail, Grace and I would receive a handful of beauty products free-of-charge.
Now, I’m going to share with you an important shopping tip to ensure that you secure the best buys. All the beauty brands have at least 2-3 branches in Myeongdong but the items on promotion may vary from branch to branch. So, remember to check out at least 2 branches first before making a purchase!
Just to give you an example, the Innisfree branch directly opposite Skypark Myeongdong offers hotel guests an additional 10% discount. Some of the sheet masks were also on sale when I was there in July, but we soon realized that the other Innisfree branches were selling the masks at full-price.
   2) Express Bus Terminal Underground Shopping Mall

Seoul’s Express Bus Terminal is a subway station that houses a huge underground shopping mall lined with rows and rows of shops that seem to go on forever. You can reach this station via Line 3, Line 7 and Line 9.
There are two levels of shopping here. The first level, which is where you will exit when you get out of the subway, is home to a variety of stores selling footwear, accessories and luggage bags.
First level of shopping – with Grace and Alvin
Take a walk right to the end of the stretch and you will find stairs that lead down to the second level, or should I say basement. That’s when the real shopping begins!
2nd level of shopping, also where the real shopping begins!
As you can tell, local Koreans make up the bulk of the shopping crowd here. When it comes to shopping overseas, I am a firm believer of shopping at places that are popular with locals as the prices are less likely to be inflated and you’ll usually get better deals!
Over at the underground shopping mall, you’ll find many apparel shops with the latest Korean fashion on display. The trend now veers more towards edgier and funkier street wear, unlike in previous years when feminine dresses and lace tops were all the rage.
The pricing is very reasonable as well. You can even get tops and dresses for as low as S$5. Honestly, all the best bargains can be found here. In fact, we visited Dongdaemun the next day, where we saw identical items at much higher prices!
Are there any other places that you would go for shopping?
Do feel free to share them with me!

Sponsored Video: Ambipur Smelly to Smiley Challenge

November 7, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments
Ambipur set up a room filled with smelly items such as old shoes, dirty food cans and durian. A smelly set up indeed! Can Ambi Pur Air Effects undo the damage… and eliminate the odors? They got some real people into the room, and asked them what they thought!  It was quite fascinating really, even I was pleasantly surprised at their reactions!

Glassesonline.com.sg: I’m loving my Nunettes!

November 4, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments

Don’t you just love the convenience of online shopping? Practically anything can be bought online these days, and eyewear is certainly no exception.  Glasses Online contacted me recently for a review and I was truly amazed by their wide range of eyewear, ranging from prescription eyeglasses, frames, contact lenses and branded sunglasses for both men and women. Glasses Online also offers free delivery and free 30 days return if you are not satisfied with your purchase.
I was tempted to try out the coloured contact lenses, but my high astigmatism forbids me to wear cosmetic contact lenses. Hence, I continued browsing through the site and that was when I came across Nunettes! Nunettes are graphic sunglasses that have been featured on fashion magazines such as Vogue and Marie Claire. You may also have spotted them on celebrities such as Lady Gaga, 50 cent and Rihanna.
I was immediately attracted to the J’adore Nunettes as it exudes versatility and sophistication with a touch of edginess. In case you were wondering, yes you can see perfectly well with these sunnies. It is similar to looking through perforated glasses that help to improve your eyesight.

Trendiness aside, choosing the right type of frames to suit your face shape can also enhance your overall appearance. Here’s a guide that the thoughtful team at Glasses Online came up with to help you choose the right glasses. 😉

My face shape is probably closer to heart shape, hence narrow shades or round ones would suit me best. This is great news because I love round shades!
Here are some round sunnies from Palo Wood that I absolutely adore. You can find them on Glasses Online too!
http://www.glassesonline.sg/search?cat=0&q=palo+wood
All readers of Shopping Queen’s Haven will also be entitled to S$10 off purchases over S$50!
All you have to do is to key in the code GOBLOG10 as stated below upon checkout.

Happy Shopping!
