Jay Chou’s 2010 Concert in Singapore *Updated with Video

August 31, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments
I attended Jay Chou’s concert in Singapore in July with a couple of colleagues, all thanks to Davina who queued up for the tickets! I’ve attended the past 2 concerts in Singapore. Not only is it becoming more difficult to secure tickets, the hole in my pocket also seems to get bigger with each concert!
The stage effects were spectacular and Jay’s dancing skills have certainly improved tremendously over the years. I loved the costumes and the songs (although I couldn’t sing at least half of them since he sang sooo many new songs!), but unfortunately, the concert goers around me were dead quiet.
To illustrate my point, I was told off by a Jay Chou fan beside me for waving my lightstick too fervently!! She claimed, in her own words, that I was blocking “her Jay Chou”. πŸ˜‰
I wanted to tell her that he belongs to me too, and she could easily stand up or move her body forward to get a better view, but I wasn’t about to get into a quarrel and miss the concert!
If you do not intend to get your butt off your seat at a concert, then you’re better off  watching the concert on your DVD player at home. I seriously wonder what happened to the concert culture in Singapore. Gone are the days when everyone would jump onto their feet the moment the singer appeared on stage!

Unhappy moments aside, here are a few photos that I managed to snap. Click on them to enlarge!

Finally, here’s a video clip of the effects:

P.S.: Nana, please tell me how to get VIP tickets for his next concert!! I want to go with you!! πŸ˜›

Maxi Dresses

August 29, 2010 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

I’ve been pretty busy these days and I haven’t had much time to put together my photos so here’s just a simple outfit post for your viewing pleasure. πŸ˜‰

Maxi dresses have always been an integral part of my wardrobe. They’re so easy to slip on and can easily be transformed from beach wear to evening wear with a quick change of footwear and accessories. Here’s a very casual military green maxi dress that I wore to Sushi’s dinner gathering recently:
Have a great Sunday babes!

Akashi

August 22, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments
It has been a while since I met up with Karen and Sushi, so we arranged to meet for lunch at Akashi. Akashi is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants, among a string of others including Nanbantei and Santouka (thanks to Jo for the recommendation).
Akashi also offers a seasonal selection of sashimi which is not on the menu. I’ve tried the baby red snapper sashimi, which JW absolutely loves. The sashimi is so thinly sliced and the portion is so meagre that I can’t imagine forking out $40 just for a plate of this, but the meat is so fresh and sweet it’ll leave you begging for more.
Alas, we didn’t have sashimi that day, but we did have a sumptuous spread nevertheless!

We did some shopping at Marc by Marc Jacobs before we parted ways. Unfortunately, we forgot to take a group photo but Karen and I took some outfit shots:

Looking forward to meeting the girls again! Meanwhile, enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Clarins Shaping Facial Lift

August 21, 2010 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
These days, I’m starting to realize that I am no longer as agile and energetic as I used to be. I  also feel extremely lethargic and tired during that time of the month, something which never bothered me when I was younger. I guess this is all part and parcel of aging.
Although we can’t reverse the aging process, there are many over the counter products and tonics to counter its effects. I believe that you can never be too young to start on anti-aging products, especially if you are talking about anti-wrinkle cream for the eyes and facial lifting products.
I have just started on a bottle of Clarins’ Shaping Facial Lift, which claims to  lighten the face  to uncover more refined facial contours. It also has firming properties to rejuvenate your skin and lift your facial features. While my skin is currently still supple and taut, I figured I would need some help in terms of maintenance. Moreover, who wouldn’t want their facial contours to be more defined? πŸ˜‰
This serum can be easily incorporated into your daily skincare regime as it is meant to be used immediately after cleansing and toning, before you pile on other skincare products. Its effects will be better enhanced if you follow the Clarins Manual Auto-Lifting method, which is essentially a series of facial massage steps to reduce water retention, thereby aiding the removal of facial fats. All you need to do is to follow the steps detailed in the booklet provided by Clarins.
I’ve been using this product for the past 3 days and surprisingly, I have already started noticing a significant change in my facial contours. I have naturally chubby cheeks, which JW can definitely attest to because he derives so much joy from pinching them, and even he has noticed that my cheeks are less chubby (much to his dismay)!!
I know it sounds miraculous and I can’t believe that it is true either, but when I look into the mirror or touch my face, I am convinced that it is. Nonetheless, I am not sure how long-lasting the effects are, so I will continue to monitor my progress for the next 1-2 months before I report back again. I should probably take before and after photos too!

Lunch@Jalan Kayu

August 16, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments
I just got back from a short getaway to Bali with my girls! I’ve yet to sort out my photos but you’ll certainly see them in time to come.
Went to Jalan Kayu for lunch one weekend. I’ve always had a penchant for buffalo wings, especially the ones at Jerry’s. JW too. We tucked into the buffalo wings with relish, and happily forgot about taking photographs.

I do have some photos of the place though. The randomly placed photo frames and retro aeroplane add a quaint yet homely touch to the restaurant.

After the yummy wings, it was time to indulge in silky smooth bean curd from Selegie Soya Bean, which also has an outlet at Jalan Kayu.
Finally, here’s a parting shot at one of the back alleys.
I have a brand new piece of this preppy checked dress for sale at S$29.90, so drop me an e-mail at regina.chow@gmail.com if you’re keen! – SOLD-

Mandarin Kitchen at Queensway, London

August 11, 2010 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Mandarin Kitchen was one restaurant in London that we just couldn’t miss. Located at Queensway, alongside other Chinese restaurants such as Royal China (my favourite dim sum place in Singapore hails from London!), Mandarin Kitchen is always crowded and reservations are definitely recommended.
Here’s the address:
Mandarin Kitchen
14-16 Queensway, London W2 3RX, United Kingdom 020 7727 9012
We ordered the house specialty lobster noodles. The juicy and succulent lobster meat was cooked to golden perfection and absolutely divine to the palate. The description alone is enough to make me salivate!

We also shared a plate of crispy Peking duck with pancake to share. The servings at Mandarin Kitchen are very generous and the gluttons in us simply could not resist the lure of crispy duck with sweet sauce. We wolfed down the entire plate of duck like ravenous scavengers.

Ever heard of the saying that women have a separate compartment in their stomachs for dessert? Well, I am not ashamed to admit that this has always been the case for me. Boy was I glad that I didn’t miss out on the toffee bananas!
Toffee bananas are essentially fried banana fritters deliciously coated with a thick layer of toffee, akin to the westernized version of our local favourite, goreng pisang! Trust me, the moment you sink your teeth into this delectable dessert, you would be left begging for more. I almost ordered another serving! Yes, it was that addictive!

I would definitely return to Mandarin Kitchen the next time I’m in London. The food is reasonably priced and finger-licking good. Thanks HP for treating me to such a wonderful meal!

Trafalgar Square, Horse Guards, Buckingham Palace and The Botanist

August 9, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments
We didn’t have time to venture out of London for sightseeing, but we did have pockets of time to do a teeny weeny bit of sightseeing in London itself.
Trafalgar Square is one of the most famous squares in the UK, hence it is a popular venue for political demonstrations and national celebrations such as the annual New Year’s Eve party. The key landmark of Trafalgar Square is the Nelson Column behind us in the first picture, a monument that was built in memory of Admiral Nelson’s death during the Battle of Trafalgar. The Battle of Trafalgar, a battle against the Spanish and French navy fleets during the Napoleonic wars, marked the most successful British victory during this period, thus Trafalgar Square was named after it in commemoration of the battle.
We also passed by the horse guards parade en route to Buckingham Palace, which is located in the city of Westminster. It was already close to evening by the time we got there, so we missed the changing of guards ceremony which was scheduled to take place at 11.30a.m!

Thereafter, we decided to reward ourselves with a sumptuous meal at The Botanist, touted as one of the best restaurants in London. I loved the ambiance, but I didn’t think very much of the food unfortunately. I much prefer the food at Mandarin Kitchen, which I will blog about very soon. πŸ˜‰

Meanwhile, here’s wishing Singapore a Happy 45th National Day!! Live our dreams, fly our flag!

Hyde Park

August 7, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments
At 350 acres, Hyde Park is not only the most famous Royal Park in London, it is also easily one of the largest. Long before it was opened to the public, Hyde Park belonged to the monks of Westminster Abbey and was then subsequently purchased by Henry XIII to be used as his private hunting ground. The park was only opened to the public in 1637 after Charles I took over the reign.

Since then, Hyde Park has taken on a totally different identity. It is now a venue for national celebrations and global events such as the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games. Of course, families and friends still gather here on weekends for picnics!
We took a stroll through the park on an early Sunday morning, unfazed by the scorching heat. In fact, I remember joking that we would probably need to do IPL to get rid of pigmentation after the trip. For the uninitiated, IPL refers to Intense Pulse Light, a laser skin treatment, not Invisible Panty Line (a certain significant other thought the acronym stands for this!!LOL).
Just look at these gorgeous blooms! I was so dazzled by the vast expanse of green meadows and diverse selection of flora and fauna. Nowhere in the depths of our botanical gardens can you find such beautiful flowers.

As the weather was nothing short of fabulous that day, we spotted several bikini-clad visitors sunbathing in the open along our way. Deck chairs in cheery white and green stripes were also made available to visitors who want to get that healthy tan.

And finally, here’s my favourite shot of the park.

Enjoy the long weekend babes! Happy National Day!!
