Luxola Sunscreen Review & Discount Code

March 26, 2015 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

I never ever leave the house without sunscreen, and if I had to choose one skincare product that I cannot do without, sunscreen would certainly be my choice. Luxola Singapore must have read my mind because they sent 3 sunscreen products my way recently. **Luxola has also extended a special discount code for my readers, so do read on till the end of the post to find out more!

I cannot stress enough the importance of wearing sunscreen to prevent pigmentation and premature aging. However, one man’s meat could jolly well be another man’s poison and this theory applies to sunscreen too. A particular sunscreen brand or formulation may glide onto your skin beautifully without any greasy after feel, but it could also make someone else look like she smeared grease onto her face.

To find the right sunscreen that suits your needs, here are just some of the questions that you would need to answer:

What is your skin type?
Is your skin sensitive or prone to allergies?
Are you looking for a face or body sunscreen?
Are you intending to use it in Singapore or overseas?

To help you along, I will be using these questions as a basis to review the 3 sunscreen brands from Luxola.
1) Lunamer UV Protector SPF 40 PA++ (S$42)
Lunamer hails from Japan, and if your skin is prone to irritation or allergies due to environmental aggressors like air pollution, you’ll be happy to know that all Lunamer skincare products, including this sunscreen, is formulated with ingredients such as Clear Nano Vitamin E, Crown Sugar and Japanese herb Scutellaria Baicalensis to protect the skin from air pollution and UV rays.
I have slightly sensitive oily skin that is dehydrated beneath and most sunscreens make my face look as shiny as a disco ball or in the worst case scenario, result in the formation of oil seeds on my face.
What I love about Lunamer’s sunscreen is its serum-like texture which glides on like a dream and feels absolutely featherlight on my face. The lightweight yet hydrating formula makes this sunscreen perfect for our humid climate.
Did you know that this multi-tasking product doubles up as a moisturizer and primer too? Not only am I able to simplify my beauty routine, it also ensures that my make-up stays put the whole day. If you have oily skin like me, you will love this.
Sunscreen has to be reapplied every 2 hours, but most of us tend to neglect this aspect as it is such a hassle to lug it around. Thanks to Lunamer’s slim and handy packaging, you can easily pop this into your handbag and reapply your sunscreen throughout the day.
2) Soleil Du Midi Face Sunscreen SPF 45 (S$100)
I have always been intrigued by organic skincare products as I believe that reduced exposure to harmful chemicals benefits our skin in the long term.
Soleil Toujours is a luxury organic sun care brand and the Soleil Toujours Du Midi Face Sunscreen SPF 45 is a physical sunscreen with 81% natural ingredients. It also contains an innovative proprietary Eco-sun complex, which comprises powerful anti-aging and anti-oxidant ingredients such as red algae, Vitamin C ester, Vitamin E and bisabolol. This anti-aging formula aims to hydrate and smooth fine lines.
Physical sunscreens like this one are usually more suitable for sensitive skin as its active ingredients include titanium dioxide and zinc oxide which are not absorbed into the skin. Chemical sunscreens, on the other hand, are absorbed by the skin and could potentially cause allergies.

Soleil Du Midi is specially formulated for use during intense sun exposure
but despite its skin loving properties, I find its thick consistency
harder to blend and it also leaves behind a slight sheen, which is typical of a physical sunscreen. One way to counter this is to dust on a layer of
loose powder to keep the shine at bay. Alternatively, you could also reserve
this for use when you travel to countries with drier climates.
3) Supergoop! Everyday SPF30 with Cellular Response Technology (S$68)
Supergoop! is a non-oily, non-comedogenic chemical sunscreen that can be used on both your face and body.
Its avobenzone based formula absorbs into the skin readily and it
replenishes moisture through a unique beta-glucan proven to deliver
better long term hydration than hyauluronic acid.

It comes with a convenient twist-and-lock pump but due to the sunscreen’s thin, liquid consistency, it can be rather challenging to control the amount of product dispensed.
I have tried this sunscreen on both my face and body, and personally, I would recommend this as a body sunscreen. While it does not feel greasy when applied to the face, my skin looks much shinier than when I applied the other two sunscreens featured. When applied to the body however, this feels just like a regular body moisturizer, without any icky sticky after feel. It also makes a great sunscreen for sports or beach lovers as it is water-resistant for 80 minutes!

Each sunscreen has its pros and cons, and each product’s suitability is dependent on your skin type, the environment and climate that you are exposed to as well as the activities that you are engaging in. I personally prefer the Lunamer for daily use in Singapore, Soleil Du Midi for when I travel to temperate countries and SuperGoop! as a body sunscreen, especially when I head to the beach.

First impressions always count, and a glance at Gucci Guilty Diamond’s eye-catching design is all it takes to create that spark of desire. A desire to possess it.
Gucci Guilty Diamond is the perfect accessory on your vanity table. The alluring scent is sealed in a glorious gold metallic bottle with glass windows in an entwined G design. The glittering diamonds add a dash of glamour to the bottle while the matte black packaging lends a touch of sophistication and elegance. If you’re thinking of getting a gift for that special someone, this would be it.
Appearance aside, Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Femme and Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Homme both personify the heady, seductive and thrilling original Gucci Guilty scents. These new limited edition fragrances encapsulate the electrifying chemistry

Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Femme boasts an oriental floral scent which opens with a hint of pink pepper before progressing to middle notes of lilac and cardamon. Feminine yet seductive, the scent closes with a delightful amber scent coupled with an evocative dose of patchouli that is set to entice and enthrall.
Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Homme is just as invigorating and refreshing a scent, tantalizing your senses with citrus top notes of Italian lemon and mandarin, crushed green leaves and pink pepper. Soothing lavender notes are central to the scent, complete with a touch of coriander, orange flower and neroli. This rich, sexy scent is bound to drive the ladies wild as cedar and patchouli base notes add that extra hint of masculine appeal.

Fashion Fridays: Cocomi – Luxury Watch Online Retailer (Giveaway at the end!)

March 20, 2015 by Regina Chow 56 Comments

The evolution of the retail industry to online shopping cannot be ignored, and Cocomi.com, a newly launched online retailer specializing in premium luxury watches knows just that.

 Founded by the Nobreeze Group
who also brought in the hugely popular jewellery brand Pandora and other
brands such as Cath Kidston and Bering, just to name a few, you can
shop with peace of mind at Cocomi.com as what you see is what you get.

I invited Karen along with me to the media launch of Cocomi.com, which gave us a sneak peek into the world-class brands offered, including Aigner, Ballast, Bering, Casio, CCCP, Cognito, Daniel Wellington, DuFa, James McCabe, Morgan, Pebble and Thomas Earnshaw, among others.

Here’s how Cocomi.com differentiates itself from other watch e-retailers:

  •  100% Genuine Watches
  • Free Shipping in Singapore (within 3-5 working days)
  • 30-day Return Policy
  • Safe & Secure Payment
  • One-Stop Service Centre
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Cocomi.com has a one-stop service centre to provide after service care for all your needs. My wrist is tiny and one of the reasons why I hardly buy watches online is because of the hassle of having to get my watch strap adjusted by another watch retailer at their physical store. Thanks to Cocomi.com’s service centre, I can finally cast my worries aside.

To provide you with an exclusive shopping experience, Cocomi.com has also secured exclusive rights to market brands such as Ballast, DuFa and James McCabe.

I placed my first order on Cocomi.com recently to put their service to the test and I am happy to report that they delivered what was promised. I received my Bering watch in less than 5 working days in pristine condition!

Fashion: How to Look Classy in a Crop Top

March 16, 2015 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

The crop top.  Love it or hate it,
this nineties trend is back with a vengeance. If you read my blog regularly, it
wouldn’t take very much to guess that I am a huge fan of crop tops. No longer
just for teeny-boppers, the crop top has now been bumped up to high-fashion
status as they appear on runways in sleek, modern fabrics, prints and
cuts.

A-listers like Cara Delevingne, Chloe Moretz, Taylor Swift, Rihanna and
Anne Hathaway, Diane Kruger and Karlie Kloss soon took to the revived trend,
which shows no signs on stopping for now. Perhaps it’s about time to make space
in your wardrobe for crop tops!

The modern crop top no longer resembles its trashier counterparts circa
1997 (also known as Britney Spears’ Oops! I Did It Again era). It can look
incredibly classy and stylish when worn correctly. Today, I’m going to share
more about how you can stay classy in a crop top. Pair your crop tops with the
following:

1. A pencil skirt

Here’s how the classy ladies do it on the red carpet: a plain-coloured
crop top (preferably with sleeves) with a midi skirt in a subtle print, a la
Olivia Wilde and Miranda Kerr, or a printed bustier top with a skirt in a
punchy hue. The key is to keep the skirt’s hemline at a modest length, mid-calf
or knee-length. Keep the prints as simple as possible and let the gorgeous
female silhouette take centre stage. Remember: less is more.

2. A-line skirt

A high-waist A-line skirt is a girly complement to a crop top, and it
looks flattering on everyone. At midi length, it lends a modern take on the
lady-like fifties look. Look how Zoe Saldana nailed the demure yet sexy look in
her teal ensemble, paired with nude strappy heels. If you prefer your skirts to
come with some edginess, take a leaf out of Shailene Woodley’s book and go for
leather.

3. Classic White

Who said white is an impractical colour only reserved for weddings? In a
crop top and skirt combination, white is a lovely shade that brings a dose of
spring-worthy breeziness. And you don’t have to stick to pure white. Different
shades like ivory, off-white or even cream are cool alternatives. With
all-white ensembles, it is easy to have fun with your accessories and makeup.
Bring on the lipsticks and blushers!

4. Sleek Trousers

Another way to balance the midriff-baring crop top is by pairing it with
sleek slim-cut trousers. Do as Odette Annable did and go all-black for a
black-tie event, or toughen up an all-white ensemble with strong shoulders a la
Vanessa Hudgens in a Catherine Malandrino crop top.

If you’re after a more laidback look, a dark-coloured cropped tank top
with printed silk trousers will have you looking equal parts chill and sexy,
like the way Diane Kruger does. The A-lister flaunted her abs and gave her
outfit an unexpected jolt of colour with a pair of Prabal Gurung pants. For a
daytime street style, do as French designer, actress, and musician Alma
Jodorowsky did and pair a sweet-looking white crop top with wide-legged jeans,
a salmon-pink cross-body purse and a dark chapeau.

5. Prints

How do you wear a crop top and not look like you’re stuck in the
nineties? Update it with modern prints, that’s how! Chloe Moretz applies her
daring yet classy fashion sense to this Valentino getup, covering up a tiny
black crop top with a boxy printed jacket and matching shorts. Look how her
thin-strapped stilettos elongated her slim legs! Definitely a tasteful grown-up
look for the teenage actress. Likewise, the Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev
opted for a printed crop top and shorts ensemble in a paint-splatter print,
finishing off with a pair of complementary pink pumps and a girly side braid.

6. Choose sleek fabrics

The best way to update your crop top is with lush fabrics and sleek
silhouettes. Flowy fabrics can look sloppy, and plain old cotton can look a
little too nineties grunge (unless that’s the look you’re going for), so stick
to structured, stiff fabrics that hold their shape and boxy cuts that dial up
the drama by enhancing your silhouette. Case in point: the bold, edgy but
elegant looks seen on Rihanna, Cara, and Anne.

Fashion Fridays: Crop Tops & Book Clutches

March 13, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

Today’s edition of Fashion Fridays features one of my typical weekend outfits. I have an obsession with crop tops, if you haven’t already realized, as I think they’re perfect for our sweltering heat (is Singapore getting hotter or is it just me?). I pair a crop top with shorts or a simple skater skirt and off I go to run my errands or catch up with loved ones every weekend.
Book clutches are my go-to bags for the weekend. They’re instant conversation starters, easy to match and never fail to draw attention wherever I go. I have quite a
number of these adorable book clutches in my wardrobe, some a little
more whimsical while others are a little edgier, but I love them all the
same. The size is just right too as I like to minimize the load that I lug around to prevent back pains. More importantly, the likelihood of bumping into someone else with the same bag is close to zilch.

On a more
personal note, I’ve been a little under the weather recently. It could
be the heat, the haze or just fatigue as a result of everything that is
going on in my life right now.
JW and I are in the midst of planning some lifestyle changes, and as much as I would like to reveal more, the details would have to be kept under wraps in the interim (if you were wondering, no I am not pregnant….). For now, all I hope to do when the weekend arrives is to spend time with JW and also spend some time alone to let my body shut down and let my mind wander. I’m a very homely person by nature, and as much as I enjoy the company of friends and family, I relish time alone.

Aesthetics & Beauty Looking Fabulous & Gorgeous Party

March 12, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

We all want to look fabulous and gorgeous, don’t we? With this in mind, Aesthetics & Beauty Magazine organized a Looking Fabulous & Gorgeous Party at Lime House last month.
I don’t know about you, but I am always on the lookout for new skincare and beauty products as our skin transforms with age and environmental changes. In a nutshell,
this means that it is always useful to change up your beauty routine
every now and then to keep your skin in tip top condition.

I had a wonderful time at the party as it gave me the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with several brands, some of which were new to me. In today’s post, I will be sharing more about some of these beauty brands, so let’s start the ball rolling, shall we?
JANE IREDALE
My eyes lit up immediately when I saw a booth dedicated to Jane Iredale as Karen had recommended their Powder-Me SPF (essentially a powder sunblock with SPF 30) to me several years ago and I have been using it religiously since.
For the uninitiated, Jane Iredale is a mineral make-up pioneer from USA. And in case you were wondering, yes, Jane is a real person.
Jane Iredale’s inspiration stemmed from her career as a casting director and producer, where she got to work with actresses and models who depended on beautiful, healthy skin for successful careers. To further her passion to enhance the lives of women, Jane worked with dermatologists and plastic surgeons to develop her own cosmetics line. Today, there are over 400 products in Jane Iredale’s cosmetics line.
Plastic surgeons were the first to recognize the benefits of mineral foundations and how safe they were to use, even on patients who had just undergone laser resurfacing. The brand’s best-seller is the Glow Time BB cream, which includes antioxidants such as green tea and pomegranate to soothe skin.

How is Jane Iredale different from other cosmetic brands?
Jane Iredale’s key ingredient is micronised mineral particles. When applied, these particles create a protective layer against external pollutants without clogging pores, while giving you the coverage that you need. Their products are suitable for all skin types, including acne-prone and sensitive skin, as harmful chemicals such as preservatives, dyes and perfumes, as well as alcohol, are omitted.

Aside from skin-loving ingredients, another interesting aspect about Jane Iredale’s make-up or mineral make-up in general, is that it does not dissolve in water or oil. The lovely people from Jane Iredale placed two containers of water, one for normal cosmetics and the other for Jane Iredale’s make-up, to prove this to us. Hence, there is no need for multiple touch-ups and your make-up wouldn’t slide off your face on a hot, humid day. Isn’t that great for our weather?
Jane Iredale has also recently launched its new make-up collection, Country Weekend, this month. The collection features a limited edition Getaway Eye Shadow Kit that offers 5 wearable neutral shades, Jelly Jar Gel Eyeliner in Espresso, and Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain in Forever Peach. I’ll be reviewing these products in a separate post, so do look out for it soon!

ENVIRON
Environ is a beauty brand that is entirely new to me, but I couldn’t be more impressed when I learnt more about the brand’s history. Environ was founded by Dr Des Fernandes, a prominent Cape Town plastic surgeon, who was also the first person in the world to introduce vitamin A in high effective doses.
“A face lift in a bottle” is what the Intensive Revival Masque, the brand’s latest product, aims to achieve with revolutionary ingredients such as Asiatic, Mandelic and Lactic Acid. I was told that not only can you look forward to younger looking skin after using it for about 4-6 months, the Mandelic acid in this product can also help lighten pigmentation over time.
I have pigmentation on my upper cheeks (hereditary, unfortunately) and am definitely hoping to see visible results in the longer term.

DR BENJAMIN YIM CLINICAL AESTHETICS & LASER CENTRE
Dr
Benjamin Yim specializes in aesthetics treatments like Botox, skin
fillers, peels and thermage. A key pioneer in the aesthetics industry
with highly valued opinions, Dr. Yim is a popular speaker at many
aesthetic conferences around Asia.

Other treatments
that are available at Dr Benjamin Yim’s clinic include fat
transfer, threadlifts and vaser liposelection as well as
fractional resurfacing.

I was very excited to see Latisse at the counter as I have heard so much about its effectiveness in promoting lash growth. Apart from Latisse, Dr Benjamin Yim also carries his own brand of skincare products at the clinic to cater to different skin types.

BENE PREMIUM BLURIA & BENE PREMIUM ROUGERIA
I try my very best to take good care of my hair especially since I subject it to chemical treatments and dyes ever so often. Fortunately, more non-silicone shampoo and hair treatment products are making their way to our shores these days. Moltobene’s Bene Premium Bluria and Bene Premium Rougeria ranges may be the new kids on the block where Singapore is concerned, but they have come a long way in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Both ranges are 100% made in Japan and formulated with natural ingredients to transform hair to its original state of health by cleansing all the impurities on the scalp.

I have been using the Bene Premium Bluria range, which is meant for scalp care, for a couple of weeks now and my scalp does feel much cleaner and less irritable.
Unlike most scalp-care shampoos, it has a surprisingly refreshing yet feminine fragrance which boasts fresh and fruity top notes, a floral middle note and a musky base note. The delicate scent is what I like best about this range as fragrant scalp-care shampoos are relatively rare in the market.
TEALY
Beauty comes from within and tea, which is chock full of antioxidants, can help us to achieve inner beauty thanks to its health and skin benefits. I love tea, and if you’re like me, you will find Tealy’s tea varieties very unique.

With exclusive flavours such as Earl Grey Creme, Anjou Paradise, Mint Chocolate Truffle and Wonder Berry Chocolate Truffle, it is hard not to be impressed.

We had the opportunity to taste the Anjou Paradise Ceylon Tea blend, a fruit infusion with sweet pear, pineapple and passion fruit flavours topped with a citrus finish. Surprisingly, its fruity aroma and slight tinge of sweetness seemed to go well with desserts and was the perfect accompaniment to the strawberry cakes that were served.

Karen, Raphael and I had a lovely afternoon getting to know more about each of these brands. Thanks to their generosity, each of us walked away with 3 bags of goodies on top of lucky draw prizes.

It has been a while since I last met Joselyn as well, and it was such a pleasure catching up with her at the event too.

Thank you once again for organizing such a fabulous party!

Fashion: 2015 Oscars Best Dressed Trends

March 12, 2015 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
Oscars 2015 may be officially over, but there’s always a thing or two that we can pick up from the celebrities when it comes to getting ready for the red carpet (or perhaps gala dinners, dinner & dance and other formal events).

Red, red, red

When in doubt, wear red. It makes a statement effortlessly and you will definitely stand out from the crowd. With such an attention-grabbing colour like red, you can go easy on the accessories and simply bask in the limelight like a superstar.

Dakota Johnson in Saint Laurent
Rosamund Pike in Givenchy

 Beads & Embellishments

You can always count on Elie Saab’s gowns to look every bit like a princess who has stepped right out of a fairy-tale. I am a huge fan of beads and embellishments as they add an instant touch of glamour and femininity to any ensemble. Thanks to the shimmering beads on these gorgeous gowns, accessories can be kept to a minimum too.

Emma Stone in Elie Saab Haute Couture
Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab Haute Couture
If you prefer a less princess-y rendition of this trend, go for a classic form-fitting silhouette to accentuate those curves.

Jennifer Aniston in Versace
Lupita Nyong’o in Calvin Klein
Classic Sheath Silhouette

Slim, sleek and stylish, the classic sheath silhouette is high on glamour and low on fuss. It is especially flattering on both tall and skinny as well as hour-glass figures as it elongates your frame and adds definition to your waist. I love how Gwyneth Paltrow and Zoe Saldana rocked their sheath gowns in dainty shades of pastel and blush pink. And how could we forget Reese Witherspoon who cut such a stunning figure in an elegant black and white off-shoulder gown?

Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford
Zoe Saldana in Atelier Versace

Which style do you prefer? Are there any other trends that you spotted on the Oscars 2015 red carpet too?

Beauty: Shiseido Aqualabel Special Gel Cream Review

March 11, 2015 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

I’m always excited to try new skincare products, especially gel-based skincare products which glide on smoothly without any greasy after-feel. Shiseido’s Aqualabel Special Gel Cream, winner of Women’s Weekly “Best Beauty Buys 2014”, is one such product that I have been intending to review.

I finally took the tub of goodness out of its box and incorporated it into my skincare routine about 2 weeks ago, and I can safely say that it works well on my skin which is oily on the surface and dehydrated beneath.

What I love about Shiseido’s
Aqualabel Special Gel Cream is its velvety soft jelly-like texture which
feels featherlight on my skin and yet locks in moisture at the same
time.

Multi-tasking 5-in-1 Gel Cream

A multi-tasking 5 in 1 gel cream that contains a high concentration of collagen with double hyaluronic acid and can be used as a lotion (toner), emulsion, essence, cream and mask all at once, it gives you more bang for your buck than your average moisturizer in the market.

Powered by Aqualabel’s exclusive Aqua Synergy technology, the special gel cream penetrates deeper into your skin to deliver moisture and fight signs of aging, giving you dewy, supple and hydrated skin.

Pop it in the fridge to give your skin an extra pick-me-up in the mornings and use it as a sleeping mask at night (I do this once or twice a week) and on flights to keep your skin moisturized. A little goes a long way, and I believe this tub will last me for about 6 months at least.

Use it as a sleeping mask

To use it as a sleeping mask, pick up a 50 cent dollop of cream, apply it on to your face and let it sit for about 3 minutes before massaging it thoroughly into your skin. Head to bed when it’s fully absorbed and wake up to smooth, radiant and glowing skin in the morning.

All-in-one products like this special gel cream are just perfect for traveling and this gem of a skincare product is definitely heading overseas with me on my next flight out of the country!

Travel: Shopping Guide – Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

March 9, 2015 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Hong Kong is one of my favourite cities for shopping because there are always new, interesting spots worth exploring regardless of the number of times you’ve stepped foot there. On my recent trip to Hong Kong last year with Yitian, we chose to stay in Sheung Wan, home to streets after streets of antiques, curiosities, vintage fashion, independent fashion labels and cafes.
Sheung Wan is like a maze with gems hidden in every nook and cranny, reminiscent of a less commercialized version of Venice. There are new discoveries down every alley, with pleasant surprises at every turn. Aside from shopping, the beautiful street art and wall murals also make excellent photography backdrops. Say hello to more OOTD shots!

In today’s post, shopping will take centerstage and you’ll find out what are some of the interesting knick knacks that can be found in this treasure trove of a precinct.
1. Antiques, Art and Vintage Collectibles
If you love antiques and collectible items, Sheung Wan is the place to be. You will find interesting second-hand Chinese memorabilia and other curiosities at the make-shift street stalls lining Upper Lascar Row (Cat Street).

If you prefer to visit actual art galleries and antique shops, head on to Hollywood Road (Antique Street), where you will be greeted by a variety of paintings, vases, statues, artworks and collectibles (some may be replicas) from a bygone era. If you’re thinking of sprucing up your home decor, be sure to check out these quaint little shops for some quirky finds.

2. Vintage Fashion

Taking the road less traveled has always been one of my mantras in life, and the same goes for my take on fashion. That is one of the reasons why I’ve always found vintage fashion appealing. Checking out vintage stores in Hong Kong may not have been on our cards, but it found its way into our itinerary thanks to some chance encounters.

On our way to breakfast one morning, we came across Select-18. It’s easy to mistake it for a hardware store, but don’t be fooled by its visage. Within the store lies an amazing selection of vintage accessories, bags, collectibles and eyewear.

I especially adore their collection of vintage miniature perfume bottle accessories. If you follow me on instagram (@reginachow_sg), you may have seen these gorgeous trinklets which I bought as gifts for my girlfriends (and myself too!).

Select-18

Shop A, G/F, Grandview Garden
18 Bridges Street, Central, Soho

Bang! Bang! 70s is another vintage store that we chanced upon as we walked down Aberdeen Street. Located on the second floor of a non-descript shophouse, you have to ring a bell before the gate opens to reveal a flight of stairs leading up to the store, which offers a wide variety of vintage designer apparel, bags, shoes and the likes.

3. Independent Fashion Stores

Aberdeen Street is where most of the independent fashion stores are located. We easily spent an entire afternoon just browsing through the multitude of fashion labels and trying on everything that they had to offer.

One of our favourite shops is Mushroom, where you’ll find intricate accessories, homeware and beautiful dried flowers with an unmistakable old-world charm. Stepping into the shop instantly transports you into a magical fairy-tale world where fairies, pixies and unicorns come alive.

I was particularly attracted to their exquisite selection of whimsical accessories inspired by Alice in Wonderland, folk lore and ballerinas. I felt like a child once again.

Mushroom has 3 branches in Hong Kong, namely in Aberdeen Street, New Town Plaza in Shatin and Millenium City 5 in Kwun Tong Road.
Mushroom
G/F, No. 14 Aberdeen Street, Central

A row of multi-label fashion retailers can be found on the opposite side of Aberdeen Street. ABoutique, my new found favourite multi-label retailer introduced by a friend from Hong Kong, is literally just a hop and skip away.

ABoutique stocks an exclusive selection from designers such as Frame Denim, Alice by Temperly, Camilla & Marc, House of Holland, finderskeepers, keepsake the label, among others. These labels may be readily available at e-retailers such as Shopbop, Revolve Clothing and Net-a-porter, but being able to try on these labels at ABoutique makes such a difference.
I eventually walked away with two pairs of skinny jeans from Frame Denim, some of the comfiest jeans I own to date. In fact, they’re so comfortable, you’ll feel like you’re wearing next to nothing. I’m convinced that my wardrobe needs more of these!

ABoutique
G/F, 19 Aberdeen St, Central
Sheung Wan left such a deep impression on me and I would love to share every facet about this amazing place in time to come. If there are other shops in Sheung Wan that you would highly recommend, do let me know!

Fashion Fridays: Stylish Sudio Earphones

I love music, but I love fashion too. The reason why I used ‘but’ instead of ‘and’ here is because as much as I love to listen to music, especially when I am on the go, finding a pair of stylish earphones with good sound quality is a tall order. It is difficult to have the best of both worlds and more often than not, I’ll end up heading out without my earphones so as not to compromise on style.

In today’s edition of Fashion Fridays, I will be sharing my recent experience with Sudio, a Swedish brand of earphones that truly understands how important it is to marry style with quality and comfort. I have always been a fan of Scandinavian design and Sudio’s elegant meets preppy designs are just perfect.

I wanted a pair of earphones that is compatible with all smartphones and devices, and Sudio’s TVÅ earphones are just what I needed.

Style Personified

. Truth be told, I have never felt so excited about unboxing gadgets until Sudio came along. Each item, from the earphones, the genuine leather case, to the manual, comes with a carefully labelled little box of its own. The packaging alone is bound to impress.

The genuine leather case and gold clip to keep dangling wires in place are such thoughtful add-ons too. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had problems searching for my earphones after I place them in my handbag. This nifty case is not only presentable, but it also solves all my problems too.

The Sudio TVÅ earphones come in four colours and I was particularly attracted to both the black and brown options. The black exudes an air of sophistication while the brown has a distinctive vintage preppy vibe.  I really adore the gold details and look, that gorgeous gold clip doubles up as an accessory too.

Its lightness and aesthetically pleasing
design are reasons why I keep it handy whenever I go out, because there always
those moments when you want to either view online vids amidst noisy crowds
or indulge in your favourite music. With a stylish leather case, and
tangle-resistant flat cords, Sudio TVÅ is a darling to carry around.

Crisp and Well-balanced Sound Quality

Listening on the Sudio TVÅ is an absolute delight. Besides the crisp and
well-balanced sound quality, its lightweight construction and
ergonomical earbud design ensures that you wouldn’t experience any discomfort even
after long hours of listening.

In all honesty, Sudio’s
design and sound quality truly stand out in the crowd, even among the bigger boys.
Affordably priced at just slightly over S$60 (or 365 Swedish Kronas) with free international shipping included, the Sudio TVÅ would make a perfect gift, either for yourself or your loved ones.
