A Walk in the Park

June 19, 2010 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
One of the best ways to unwind after a hectic work week is to take a walk in the park and feel the wind caress your face in the tranquil surroundings.
The long winding road up to the top of Mount Faber leads you to a lush garden inundated with endless rows of trees, shrubs and flowers.

Sometimes, we get so caught up chasing our goals in life that we lose sight of what is  truly important and dear to us. While work is a critical aspect in our lives, spending time with our loved ones is also of paramount importance as these are the very people who give meaning to our lives.

Sometimes, taking a stroll in the park not only gives you time to stop and smell the flowers, it also helps to put your thoughts into perspective. A breath of fresh air does wonders to one’s body and mind, doesn’t it?

I’ll be away the next 2 weeks for work, so do pardon me if I don’t reply your comments in time. Meanwhile, do keep those comments coming as I’ll love to hear from you.
Have a great weekend!

Dining in the Swiss Alps

June 11, 2010 by Regina Chow 8 Comments
Sorry to disappoint you. I didn’t actually dine in the Swiss Alps. What I did however, was have lunch in a restaurant that was decorated to resemble the Swiss Alps.
The irony of it all is, I will actually be able to pen a genuine post on the Swiss Alps in due course because I will be heading there soon!
In the meanwhile, you can still enjoy the lovely scenery of the alps in the comfort of Marche at 313 Somerset! The moment I stepped into the restaurant, I felt like I had entered a quaint Swiss cottage set against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains, lush pastures and cute milkmaids with their cows in tow.

I can’t recall the last time that I patronized Marche, but I do remember that it used to be located at The Heeren and was a popular haunt among my university classmates.

Nothing much has changed except for the more upmarket decor. For one, my favourite mushroom soup, crepes and root beer are still available on the menu!

Inevitably, looking at pictures of mountains can cause rockclimbers to hallucinate and pine for the sport. In some cases, the individual’s palms will start to sweat uncontrollably as well.

So, what do people (like the above) do when they feel the urge to climb? People like them make their spouses take photographs of them while they are in the heat of the action.

Don’t you just pity the poor squirrels who are attempting to flee their natural habitat in the face of danger?
After a hearty lunch, we spent the rest of the leisurely afternoon chilling out at Tully’s Coffee and catching up on the latest news before we headed home for a short break before dinner.
I changed into another outfit before we went out for dinner in town. The lace strapless dress here is another lovely piece courtesy of ClubCouture. I wanted to add a dash of colour to the black and white ensemble, hence I paired the dress with bright green heels and a whimsical clutch from Pleats Please by Issey Miyake.
As I had expected, this dress was a complete sell-out on ClubCouture. The pretty tiered lace skirt and attached bow accent belt would set everyone’s heart fluttering!
I did however spy another lovely black lace dress on ClubCouture, so if you’re looking for the perfect little black dress with just a hint of lace, the Nat Lace Babydoll Dress may just be it!
Have a great weekend babes! πŸ™‚

Arteastiq Tea Lounge by Marxx

June 10, 2010 by Regina Chow 6 Comments
It has been a while since I met Grace as she got attached recently and has been spending more time with her baby! I finally had her all to myself one weekend a couple of weeks ago!
I love hanging out with girlfriends just to do the usual girly things like watching chick flicks, shopping, doing our nails and catching up over a cup of tea. After the movie (I love Sex & The City!) and a lot of shopping, we had a sumptuous yet sinful meal at McDonalds before adjourning to Arteastiq Tea Lounge for dessert tea.
Housed within Marxx, a designer furniture shop, Arteastiq is tastefully decorated with an artistic European flair infused with elements of Eastern influence. Softly illuminated by the row of cane lights which resemble Chinese birdcages, this cafe has a very comfortable and cozy atmosphere that is perfect for unwinding.
Other eastern influences include the blue and white floral wallpaper, which is reminiscent of an oriental painting. The black and white print sofa also lends an interesting contrast to the light colour palette.
I fell completely in love with the European armchairs which come in an assortment of vibrant neon colours, adding a playful touch to the elegant decor.
Grace and I share many common interests, such as shopping, make-up and all things associated with beauty, not to mention camwhoring too! We always go the extra mile to ensure that only our best angles are captured.
I had the lychee tea while Grace went for the pear tea. The lychee tea was a little too sweet for me but I found Grace’s tea very refreshing and pleasing to the palate. The dessert teas are brewed with real fruit, hence you can taste the essence of the fruit with every sip. Each of our trays also came with a plate of delicious dried cranberries, a delightful complement to the slightly bitter-sweet taste of tea.
Here’s what I wore that day. It’s a dreamy tulle tunic similar to the previous outfit that I posted. This cute little tunic is from Number 50 at Mandarin Gallery. I thought this would be the perfect outfit for catching Sex and the City as it is feminine, mischievous and outrageous at the same time!

Nude Make-up

June 7, 2010 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
I’m usually not very adventurous when it comes to make-up. I love neutral palettes with a lot of eyeliner. Ooo..and nude lips too! I wish I could also put on some coloured contacts to complete the look, but my astigmatism is way too high.
Here’s my take on nude make-up. Pics are all unedited.

Base:
1) Derma Rx Tinted Sunscreen – Read more about it in my skincare post here

2) Christian Dior Extreme Fit Supermoist Powder Foundation Shade 010

Eyes:
1) Chanel Ombre Paupieres Eyeshadow Shade 77 (shimmery white liquid eyeshadow base over entire lid)
2) Kate “Reflect Mirror Eyes” in BR 2 (Two shades of brown to contour the socket area and a shimmery white shade to highlight under the brow bone)
3) MAC Powerpoint Eyeliner in Engraved (upper and lower lashlines)
4) Canmake Gokubuto Mascara (only on lower lashes)
5) Falsies from Aiku Maikawa Model’s Selections – model # 908 (on upper lid)
Cheeks:
1) MAC Pinch O Peach Sheertone Blush
2) MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Dark (for contouring below cheekbones)
3) MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Soft and Gentle (as a highlighter on top of blusher)
Lips:
1) Ettusais Lip Essence
2) Canmake lip concealer – I have pretty red lips, and this concealer miraculously erases the colour on my lips completely!
3) MAC Satin Lipstick in Faux

Dempsey & Ayam Bakar

June 6, 2010 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Feeling well rested after the cruise, we headed down to Dempsey the day we returned to mainland Singapore to meet up with Karen, Clara, Janice and Audrey. Most of the photos here are courtesy of Janice. πŸ™‚

The objective was to check out the flea market, but after our tea session at Jones the Grocer, most of the shops had closed! None of us realized that the flea closes at 6pm. πŸ˜›

Nonetheless, that didn’t stop us from checking out the Beauty Emporium, where we had a ball of a time browsing through beauty products while Janice had her brows done. It was her virgin experience!

The Beauty Emporium is apparently the world’s first one-stop shop for all your beauty and nutritional needs. I was overwhelmed by the wide selection of beauty products which is not commonly found in departmental stores, and….surprise, surprise….books too!

Yes, Books Actually (their main shop is located at Club Street) is a tenant here as well. I’ve always been a fan of their unique collection of books and antique collectibles sourced from overseas.

I also love how the beauty products are neatly lined on refrigerated shelves, not unlike food products at the supermarket.

Our final shot before we headed to Ayam Bakar at Lucky Plaza for dinner

Ayam Bakar is an Indonesian restaurant that I’ve been rather crazy about lately. You can read more about it in my previous entry here.

Not only is the Ayam Bakar dish delicious, I absolutely adore the Happy Soda too!

We ended the night in a typical girly fashion with a parting shot before we went our separate ways. Karen had to zip off to a friend’s birthday party, so there were only the 3 of us! Hope to meet up with the girls again soon!

Floral Prints & Denim

June 5, 2010 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
Floral prints and denim are all the rage in Japan this season. This trend has been repeatedly featured on various Japanese magazines such as Vivi, Popteen and CanCam .
We can always trust the Japanese girls when it comes to dolling up. I never knew that casual denim separates such as jackets and vests could match floral dresses so beautifully.

Now, here’s my take on denim and floral prints. Nothing fanciful because vests and jackets are just too hot for this weather!

Yummy Snacks from Sun Moulin

June 4, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments
Sun Moulin is one of my favourite bakeries in town. It is conveniently located beside Isetan at Shaw Centre and serves freshly made pastries as well as delectable Japanese desserts. Ironically, I never took notice of the desserts until recently. Well, there’s no turning back now!
I purchased their strawberry sandwich, mango soft omelet (swiss roll) and sakura daifuku, all of which were really delicious!

The fresh cream was light and not overpoweringly sweet, allowing the natural sweetness and flavour of the fruits to shine through.

The daifuku’s soft and floury exterior as well as generous red bean filling with a hint of sakura made it an absolute delight to devour!
