Save Keith Peck Zhi Yi Campaign

September 29, 2011 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Hi everyone,

My friend Keith is currently still missing after the fishing boat that he was on collided with an oil tanker on 24th September 2011. He was wearing a life jacket, so he stands a good chance of survival. However, the Malaysian authorities plan to end the official search by sunset on 30 September 2011. Family and friends are still praying for his safe return and if you could contribute in any way possible to spread the word about his plight and extend the search, we would all be very grateful.

Keith’s family has set up a facebook page Save Keith Peck Zhi Yi Campaign to spread the word. It would be great if you could share this link with your friends too.

In addition, Keith’s family has extended a reward of RM50,000 to anyone who brings him back safely. If you would like to make a donation, please fill up the form below and my friends will get in touch with you shortly.

Help us find Keith Peck

Thank you very much for all your help!

A series of unfortunate events

September 28, 2011 by Regina Chow 5 Comments
Everyone around me, including myself, seems to be going through a rough patch this year. Just when I thought nothing worse can happen, each subsequent event just seems to get worse progressively. I like to focus on the positive side of things but nothing seems to be going smoothly lately. However, as long as we have faith, I believe we’ll all get to see the light at the end of the tunnel very soon.

My friend Keith is missing at sea (you would probably have read it in the papers) in the Pulau Aur boat accident. I feel very sad because he is a good friend of mine since my SMU days and he actually came to mind when I saw maple leaves while travelling in Europe because he once sent me a letter enclosed with a maple leaf when he was on student exchange. I was thus thinking of arranging lunch when I got back to Singapore just to catch up as it has been a while since we last met.

My friends and I have been praying for his safe return to his wife and baby and I really hope the Malaysian authorities will agree to the search extension that Singapore requested for.

I would be very grateful if you could join me in praying for my friend. He wore a life jacket when he swam away from the pack towards a fishing boat, so I believe there’s still hope!

Come back soon, Keith!

And Fall is Here

September 23, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments

I’ve been travelling for a month now and dressing up everyday, especially when I’m transitioning between summer and autumn, can be a real challenge. I could be in shorts one day and all wrapped up the next day because of the crazy weather.

Temperatures can vary very drastically from city to city too. There was one point in Slovakia when I even had to pull out my winter trench because it was freezing cold! Brrr…and the funniest thing was, when I reached Hungary the next day, it was summer all over again!

Here’s one of my get-ups for the fall season:

Black turtle neck blouse from Uniqlo

Denim skinny jeans from Mango

Cowl scarf from H&M

Tote bag from Prada

Nude patent wedged boots from Far East Plaza

I had just arrived in Cesky Krumlov from Prague where it rained in the morning (read: massive temperature drop alert!!). It was hot and sunny when I took these photos and I was getting all these curious stares from passersby who probably thought I was from outer space. LOL

Needless to say, I changed out of my outfit the minute I reached my hotel room! πŸ˜›

Prague and Charles Bridge

September 21, 2011 by Regina Chow 8 Comments
The most iconic attraction in Prague has got to be Charles Bridge. Everyday, without fail, it draws throngs of visitors who jostle past one another just to capture that picture perfect shot, not just of the bridge itself, but also its surrounding scenery and the Vltava river. To be honest, I wasn’t particularly bowled over by Charles Bridge because having heard so much about the beauty of Prague, I probably had unrealistic expectations of what it has to offer. πŸ˜›
But once I saw Prague by night and the Charles Bridge from across the river bank during lunch at Hergetova Cihelna, all of that changed. It really is a beautiful city and photos don’t lie, do they? πŸ˜‰

See what I mean? Prague by night looks like a city of glowing jewels.

By day, Charles Bridge looks magnificent against the backdrop of Prague’s charming Old Town. Unlike other European cities, the roofs of the buildings here come in warm colourful hues of red and green.
Dining outdoors beside the Vltava river in the company of such lovely scenery is definitely a worthwhile experience, even for someone like me who usually avoids the sun like the plague! I would recommend dining at Hergetova Cihelna, a popular restaurant under the Kampa Group of Restaurants in Prague.

The food was great and the service was topnotch. Our server was very professional and had a wonderful sense of humour too. When we requested for her to take a photo of us, her witty reply was “Why, of course..that’s my second job!” LOL

My delicious main course – Crispy salmon with potatoes
JW had risotto instead, which was equally yummy.

We headed to Prague Castle thereafter, the next most popular attraction after Prague’s Old Town and Charles Bridge. But I’ll save that for another time and leave you with my outfit photos instead.

For some reason, my outfit that day drew quite a bit of attention from fellow tourists (including Asians!) and they all started snapping photos of me, thinking I was a Japanese girl. They were all quite shocked to learn that I was from Singapore. Never judge a cover by its looks people! Haha I was flattered yet pretty embarrassed at the same time.

Prague Polka Dots

September 17, 2011 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
I’m sorry I haven’t been updating as frequently, but I’ve been so overwhelmed by the sights and happenings around me. I’m currently in the Czech Republic, where I visited Prague and am now in Cesky Krumlov, a beautiful town that is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. I’ll blog about the attractions I visited in Barcelona and Prague separately when I have better wifi connection and more time on my hands. Of course, I will also be replying your comments soon. I love reading them so do keep them coming!

For now, I’ll leave you with an outfit shot in Prague. πŸ™‚ Don’t be deceived by these photos on the iconic Charles Bridge. The bridge looks practically empty here, but truth be told, the maddening crowd in Prague almost drove me crazy because I couldn’t admire the beauty of the city in its entirety without having to elbow through truckloads of tourists!

Polka dot tunic from Far East Plaza

Nude patent wedged boots from Far East Plaza

Ribbon bag from Naraya

Rosette ribbon hair clip from Ching, Far East Plaza

This polka dot tunic is one of my favourite pieces for travelling. It doesn’t crease at all, is lightweight and thus perfect for hotter days. It is also great for layering when temperatures nosedive.

Have a great weekend everybody! Meanwhile, there’ll be more outfit shots coming your way. πŸ˜‰

Santa Maria de Montserrat and our first Day in Barcelona

September 12, 2011 by Regina Chow 6 Comments
During our 5 hour drive from Rodellar to Barcelona, we had a little adventure. A herd of bald sheep decided it was time to cross the road, complete with a cute, fluffy sheep dog at the end of the herd. Unlike the dog, the sheep were not fluffy at all because they just got shaved. πŸ™ Not exactly my idea of how sheep should look like, but it was quite a sight to behold! Poor JW got such a shock he started cursing and jamming his brakes. πŸ˜›

Before we reached our hotel, we stopped by the Saint Maria de Montserrat, a monastary up on the hills against beautiful rock formations. Here’s a peek at what it looks like from an aerial view (I didn’t take pictures of the rocks because I already had a rock overdose in Rodellar!). The view is even more gorgeous in real life.

Credits: Wikipedia

I took some photos of the church’s ornate interior and the Black Virgin Mary, which is the highlight of the basilica. It looks a little strange compared to the usual Virgin Mary in my opinion but the beauty of the church more than makes up for this.

Santa Maria de Montserrat is a very popular tourist attraction located about 1 hour away from Barcelona and is well worth a visit if you’re headed to Barcelona and would like to take a break from the bustling city life as well as the numerous Gaudi attractions. Do beware of crowds on weekends though! Also, the basilica is closed from 10am to 1230pm, so morning visits are out of the question. πŸ˜‰

After such an exhausting day, we were relieved to finally retreat into our cosy little hotel room at Hotel Room Mate Emma. It’s a 3-star hotel but the service and amenities are 4-star in every way.

It’s centrally located and only a short walk away from Passieg de Gracia, one of Barcelona’s main shopping streets. This is also where two of renowned architect Antonio Gaudi’s works can be found. I’ll share more about his amazing works next! πŸ™‚

A Day in Alquezar, Spain

September 9, 2011 by Regina Chow 3 Comments
Yesterday, we drove 30km out of Rodellar to another town by the name of Alquezar. It is a medieval city listed as a historical site in Spain.

Don’t you feel like you’ve been transported back in time? πŸ˜‰ Images of castles, kings, queens, knights and princesses came to my mind immediately. Playing make-believe has never been easier!

I love taking photos of dazzling sun rays peeking out from tree branches. So pretty!

Before we continued touring the town, we stopped by Narbona restaurant for lunch and an extended tea break thereafter. We had yummy cordon bleu for our main courses (we took the kid’s meal cos the portions are huge!). At 2 euros, you can also get yourself a glass of sangria, which is the same price as what a coke or coffee would cost!

Over here, the siesta starts from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, and families would gather for long, leisurely lunches together. Wish we could do that in Singapore too, where work-life balance is more of a myth, don’t you think? Unless you’re self-unemployed like yours truly. πŸ˜‰

After filling our tummies with sangria and oily fried food, we climbed up to the highest point of the town, where the Santa Maria La Mayor castle-collegiate church is. This church used to be a Muslim castle until it was conquered by the King of Aragon in the 1600s.

The gold plating and coloured wood carvings are well-preserved in its original glory, which is pretty amazing for something so ancient!

The Romanesque pillars also remind me of a romantic scene from the movie Great Expectations, where the child leads locked lips over a drinking fountain.

The mesmerizing view atop the clock tower of Santa Maria collegiate-church.

We spent the rest of our time walking through the pebbled streets and charming architecture of medieval origins.

Here’s what I wore to battle the sweltering heat.

Lace Ribbon Camisole from Forever New

White denim shorts from H&M

Along the way back, we passed by El Puente, a campsite with a beautiful arched bridge against the captivating backdrop of Sierra de Guara just as the sun was setting.

Sigh..I’m so gonna miss this place!!!!

Byebye Rodellar, and hello Barcelona.

Memories of Rodellar

September 8, 2011 by Regina Chow 6 Comments
After staying in Rodellar for close to 2 weeks, I think I’ll miss this place when we leave for Barcelona soon.
This is where I accomplished many personal firsts. Pretty astonishing, not just for myself, but for others who know me well too, because everything that I did here is completely out of character for me.

1) I had my first hiking experience here (4 hikes actually!) and enjoyed it thoroughly despite having to fend off bees/flies and balance on rocky paths that threaten to give way any time.

I even crossed the streams twice! I think I did mighty well for someone who’s afraid of water. πŸ˜‰

2) I belayed JW for the first time in my life! That’s no mean feat cos I’ve never belayed him or anybody for that matter, not even in the indoor rockclimbing gyms in Singapore and Malaysia.

Check out my harness. LOL! Cool or what?

Pls pardon the hideous shoes. Obviously they don’t belong to me. πŸ˜›

The second time I belayed JW, I nearly flew off the cliff when he swung outwards like a pendulum while coming down an inclined section of the rock formation. Luckily, there was a huge rock behind me, so I clung onto it for my dear life, not without first screaming my lungs out and making a scene!

Besides getting laughed at by the seasoned climbers around me, I also sustained a humungous bruise on my left leg and some scratches. So embarrassing! πŸ™ I’m surprised I agreed to belay him for a grand total of 8 other climbs!

3) It was my first time staying in a rural European town, which is something I’ve always wanted to do although I’m very much a city girl.

There’s just something about the fresh air, the untainted scenery and the lack of amenities that makes it inexplicably attractive and almost magical.

So, will I come back to Rodellar again? I would, but I would probably think twice about belaying my husband again. πŸ˜›

Amelie Anne Soffieanne Cascading Dress

September 7, 2011 by Regina Chow 6 Comments

When the weather was less chilly last week, I threw on the Soffieanne Cascading Dress in Nude Cream, courtesy of Amelie Anne, for one of my rest days from hiking in Rodellar when I’ll wander around the picturesque town and chill out in quaint cafes with a glass of ice-cold coke (not beer) in the company of the scenic mountain view.

The Soffieanne Cascading Dress is such a breezy little number! This is another one of those dresses that will take you from work to play in the blink of an eye. Just slip on a pair of heels and you’re ready for work or put on those comfy flats (like I did!) for afternoon tea with your girlfriends.

The ruffle details at the side of the dress add a touch of femininity while its classic shift design makes it appropriate for formal functions. Again, versatility is always key when it comes to Amelie Anne‘s The Label Love collection.

This understated beauty comes in a wide array of colours, including Salmon Blush Pink, Peacock Blue and Midnight Blue. At Amelie Anne‘s, you’ll always be spoilt for choice! πŸ˜‰

Looking for retail therapy or some mid-week indulgence? Here’s Amelie-Anne to the rescue!

Happy shopping dearies! πŸ˜€

WIWT – Rodellar

September 5, 2011 by Regina Chow 5 Comments
Here’s a simple outfit I wore for shopping at Bershka in Huesca. πŸ˜‰ I’ve worn the skorts before but I like to pair staples like these with new tops for a completely different feel.

I received this dusky pink tank top with lace and ruffles from ClubCouture just before I left for my trip. The minute the wrapping came off, I knew I had to pack it into my luggage immediately.

Lace skorts from Fa Yuen Street, Hong Kong

White Sequin Flats from Mitju

Ribbon rosette hair clip from Far East Plaza

It can get pretty chilly here at night as temperatures dip drastically, signaling the beginning of the fall season. I’ll usually throw on a jacket to keep warm, and as the temperatures drop further, I’ll add on socks/leggings or change into my jeans.

This cropped Bershka jacket is one of the buys I scored today. The skull print lining is so cute and edgy, I knew I had to get it the moment I laid my eyes on it.

Have a great week ahead everyone!
