Honeymoon Afterthoughts

February 1, 2009 by Regina Chow 7 Comments

Happy Chinese New Year!

I just got back from my honeymoon on Thursday and I’m suffering from the after effects. I wish I didn’t have to come back!!

The Trip

We took the Amazing Italy package offered by Insight Tours and it was definitely the best tour that I’ve ever been on. Although it was rather pricey, the guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. It was a whole new experience being around gracious and friendly tour mates from Australia and the US. Travelling during the off-peak season also gave us the opportunity to appreciate and bask in the lustre and glory of all the wonderful sights at our leisure.

After the Italy tour, we took a night train from Venice to Paris, which was a very unique experience for us haha…

As the train passed through Switzerland, the train conductor asked for all our passports upon embarking for security clearance. He said he would return them to us in the morning.

Being the typical Singaporeans, we got worried so JW decided to snap a photo of the train conductor, who, as you can see below, was more than willing to pose for the camera.

Well, needless to say, we got our passports back or I wouldn’t be back in Singapore today. Hm…actually, that wouldn’t have been such a bad idea. πŸ˜›

Shopping
During this trip, JW also witnessed the manifestation of the shoppaholic in me. There’s a gigantic hole in my pocket now, but I’m still surviving with the help of some savings. There was a massive sale in many of the shops with discounts ranging from 30-50%. Unfortunately for me, only my Gucci bag and Jimmy Choo shoes were on sale.

We also went to Chanel’s flagship store at Rue Cambon, where I was greeted with excellent service. JW and I agreed that the sales assistant who served us made us feel like their most valued customers. This was also where I snagged my Chanel 2.55 in Caviar and a wallet.

I am still in the midst of sorting out our photos (a few hundred photos!!) but here are a few from the Paris leg to whet your appetite:

I will be blogging about the individual cities soon!

M-DAY – Completed

January 13, 2009 by Regina Chow No Comments
Our wedding went very smoothly. Everything just fell in place, and once again, I must say we were really very fortunate to have met all the lovely people who made this happen so seamlessly.

Thanks to our parents, friends (especially Ric & Karen for being our emcees!), bosses & colleagues (for allowing me to take 1 month off!!), relatives (especially my uncle for all the help and support that he gave us) , the wonderful photographers, KC & Gideon, who captured the beauty and essence of our matrimony, and last but not least, Caroline from Silhouette and Gin (MUA),the most doting designer and MUA one could ever have.

I love flowers so I had two hand bouquets and a vase filled with fresh blooms for my hair. I absolutely fell in love with the Eustomas in my hair and the black beauty roses (JW’s parents claim they look chao ta) with vintage polka dot ribbons. I have been told several times that I am such a “drama queen” because of my seemingly unconventional sense of bridal fashion, make-up, hair, right down to my choice of flowers.

I think the typical princessy sweetie pie bridal look is too boring, although many would say that’s the exact look that I’m suited for. Er, but what’s the point of paying someone to style my hair and do my make-up if I can achieve the same look myself with just a little more effort?

That was why I went for smoky eyes and big hair for my second march-in look. On hindsight, I think it was a rather controversial choice, but I threw caution to the wind and achieved what I set out to do. I wanted to look different and I personally think the look was very glamourous indeed. Like what JW said in his speech, I look deceivingly sweet, but beneath that sweet exterior lies someone with a completely different personality (ok la there’s still some sweetness in me I guess).

Here’s my hair ( If I were given a second chance, I would still have this updo!). Thanks WQ for the pic haha:

The Husband

January 12, 2009 by Regina Chow 10 Comments
I thought I wouldn’t be blogging till after my honeymoon, but I think I should record this down before I forget all the little details. πŸ˜‰

JW got drunk on our wedding night, despite only drinking two glasses of red wine. He was as red as a beetroot and talked very loudly to everyone around him.

In all, he puked about 10 times in the suite. 5 times in the toilet bowl and the remaining 5 times in the basin. HAHA

Before my memory fails me, here are some of the other silly things that he did:

1) Before the 2nd march-in, he went up to the suite to look for me, but instead of opening the door to the suite, he happily walked past our suite and even waved hello to our banquet manager, Fandi, who was stationed outside our door. -_-“””

The best part? He hadn’t drunk any alcohol then.

2) He addressed me as his girlfriend VERY LOUDLY although we just had our solemnization ceremony after the 1st march-in. He had already drank perhaps 1 glass of wine at this point?

3) He passed a stalk of red rose to a girl (apparently his childhood playmate) right under my nose!! Shame on you!!!:P

He had about 2 glasses by then, but so did I!!! And I downed two full glasses of red wine because a) his climbing buddies decided to toast me, and b) he couldn’t finish the glass of wine given by my dear sisters jun, tian & reyna hahaha. I even received a round of applause from his relatives seated at the adjacent table after I downed the 2nd glass of wine in about 10 secs max. I think after these two incidents, nobody would ever dare to toast me again. HAHA!!

4) When the banquet manager and coordinator sent the food up to our suite and informed us about breakfast the next morning, JW suddenly sprang out of bed and asked them “What breakfast? What time is breakfast? I want to have breakfast tomorrow morning you know.”

They looked at him , speechless.

Before we knew it, JW quickly added “I think I need to puke now” and then off he dashed to the toilet at lightning speed.

They had barely recovered from the shock when I told them to ignore him. πŸ˜›

5) Last but not least, for all of the above that you did, OJW, my dear husband, you’re going to buy me a Chanel 2.55 when we’re in Paris!!!!

*evil laughter*

M DAY

January 5, 2009 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Yup, the day is drawing near!

We’re getting hitched this Saturday! Time flies.

I have been telling JW that we’re very fortunate to have secured the attendance of our interior designer, curtain maker, bridal designer, make-up artist and even the solemnizer at our wedding banquet.

I guess after working together for so long, our relationship with all the above-mentioned professionals has blossomed into friendship (except for 2 of them who’re actually JW’s neighbours πŸ˜‰ ).

How I wish I could get married every month. Seriously, I’ve never felt better. Besides amending the guest list, all I’ve been doing the past few days is eat, sleep, check out our new house and catch up with old friends. Most importantly, I finally have time away from work!

Under normal circumstances, I may still have to go back to work even if I’m on leave, and I usually get countless work-related smses or phone calls. Well, I still get the smses, but I hope they’ll diminish as the days go past :P.

I’m quite burnt out already ok…juggling work, wedding and reno prep all at the same time! It’s time they gave me a break.

Anyway, here’re some updates on the reno. I’ve been reading so many interior design magazines and blogs that I feel like a pseudo interior designer. I even contemplated taking up a course on interior design. Talk about 衰火ε…₯ι”.

The curtains are up! Now we’re busy editing photos from our travels to decorate our house. We probably need more time to get it fully furnished as well. We have yet to buy a whole load of other things, like crockery, utensils, reading lamps, study table and an extra bed for the guest room, so please feel free to contribute to our home building fund!

Our living room. That’s JW doing some packing.

Our coffee table is still sitting on a plastic wrapper because we’ve not cleaned the floor. If you look carefully, you can see our rolled up rug peeping out from the corner of the sofa.

We just bought the Louis Ghost Chair in glossy black but it’ll only arrive in February. Sigh.

I absolutely love the colours of the day and night curtains.

Black organza day curtains and red night curtains for the MBR. JW said it reminds him of the Victoria Theatre. HAHA. The muted gold wallpaper looks much better in real life. It’s iridescent, so you can see different motifs from different angles.

The cute baroque-inspired side tables. There’s one on each side of the bed. I love these to bits!

Close-up of the chandelier and the door leading to JW’s walk-in wardrobe.

String curtains at the entrance to my dresser. My dresser is just beside my walk-in wardrobe. Love the stone stool from Kartell.

Ok that’s all for now. I probably won’t be updating till after my honeymoon! πŸ˜‰

My Love for Cow Hide

December 27, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
JW has been going around telling his friends that I almost bought a cow hide rug for our living room.
Not just that.

I wanted to pay for it out of my own pocket.

I swear I’ll never even dream of paying that kind of price for a bag..er except for Chanel..but well, that’s not the point.

So yes, other than the Louis Ghost Chair, I have fallen prey to cow hide rugs.

Cow hide rugs add an interesting perspective to the room, especially if baroque accents are included. The juxtaposition of modern and classical elements creates a very luxurious and stylish look. I’ll let the pictures do the talking:

Yoo furnishings (its design team includes Philippe Starck, Jade Jagger & Marcel Wanders)

Carolina Herrera Jr’s room (courtesy of dominomags.com)

I was so taken by it at evov living that I wanted to bring it home immediately. It would already be in our new home if not for the fact that our tempered glass coffee table would inevitably leave a dent on that beautiful piece of art.

Because of that, we went home with a furry grey and white rug instead. It was a real steal too, thanks to the shop’s clearance sale haha.

I must say that evov living has top notch service staff. I’ll definitely go back there to get that piece of cow hide when I decide to forsake my coffee table, which won’t be any time soon (I swear I can hear JW heave a sigh of relief).

Now I’m wondering if we should get the furry cushions from evov to match our new rug.

Ok… now I think I can hear JW’s heart beat twice as fast as his normal pace. His heart must be in his throat now hahaha.

What a terrible gf I am..:P

Photo Updates – TCC at Marina@ Keppel Bay & Amara Sanctuary

December 27, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
After EC’s wedding about 2 weeks back, we adjourned to TCC at Marina@Keppel Bay for a cuppa. We wanted to go to Prive initially, but the sluggish old prude in me decided to settle for somewhere with a little peace and quiet, where alcohol was non-existent.

Last week, we were at Amara Sanctuary for an ROM ceremony. in the morning. It was held in a glass pavillion tucked amidst lush greenery and furnished with Ghost chairs by Philippe Starck.

I was out drinking at Wala’s the night before with some colleagues, and was pretty much in a daze until I saw the Ghost chairs and exclaimed aloud, “GHOST CHAIR!!!” to all those around me.

That was the moment when I really woke up I think. Thank goodness that was before the bride and groom came in. πŸ™‚

My immense fascination with the chair has been driving everyone crazy.

It was quite an eye-opening experience for me as I have never seen a bride arriving in a buggy, so I whipped out my cam and started taking pics. I’m very proud of my pictures because I managed to take them without compromising the bride’s privacy. πŸ™‚ I love her flouncy gown and pretty yellow flowers ( I think they’re lilies).

I barely had time to put on any make-up or style my hair. Rushed out with sunblock, eyeliner, a dash of mascara and a hairclip. Check out JW’s puzzled look. He just couldn’t wipe that expression off his face despite repeated photo-taking.

We had buffet lunch at the restaurant nearby. Service was excellent. Strangely enough, I think I was the only one in there who was asked to fill up a feedback form. There can only be two reasons – One, I look like the sort who would lavish compliments, or two, I look like the boss’s daughter.

I was telling JW that Amara Sanctuary is the most “atas” hotel on the sunny island of Sentosa. When he conveyed that to the couple, the groom told the bride “eh you’re almost as atas as Regina now.” The couple kept saying that even as we were bidding them goodbye. Hahaha

I have no idea why I give others such an impression hahaha…I don’t have enough dough to be atas you know!! ;P

And, I’m still waiting for people to contribute to our common toilet fund!!

Reno Updates

December 23, 2008 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

Our home renovations are almost completed, save for some furnishings to complete the look.

We’re adding a black shaggy rug and the Louis Ghost chair in glossy black from Kartell. Curtain racks have been installed.

The dining table looks really small here, but it’s quite huge in real life. We’re still short of two chairs at the moment.

The backsplash has been added and the fridge has been delivered.

The wallpaper was not up yet when we took these photos..but we were told that it’ll be up by today. The entire wall behind the bed will be covered in muted gold wallpaper.

Vanity table beside my walk-in wardrobe. The black glass looks pretty dirty πŸ˜› Gonna use string curtains to frame this space.

Little compartments for my jewellery and knick knacks.

Stone stool from Kartell
Black & white wardrobe in the guest room. It has tiny floral motifs, similar to the kitchen cupboards.

I’m blowing my nose profusely in the company of used tissues as I type. The flu bug can’t seem to get enough of me.

Time to rest and recuperate.

Chairs

December 21, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
I’m so infatuated with Kartell. We just bought the Stone stool by Marcel Wanders for Kartell from Kartell’s flagship store at Centrepoint, and I am so looking forward to having Louis Ghost chairs by Philippe Starck in my living room now. It is out of stock till January, and apparently, there are only 16 pieces available. :(. Kartell’s having 30% storewide now by the way.

My Stone stool in Crystal. I’m using it for my vanity table:The Louis Ghost Chair – I want it in glossy black:

The Louis Ghost in Crystal. I initially wanted the crystal ones, but we thought black would go better with our red sofa.

I saw the Victoria Ghost chairs at JW’s friend’s ROM ceremony on Saturday, and I was the only nut raving about it endlessly.
Tell me that the stocks will be arriving soon pls?

EC’s wedding

December 14, 2008 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
JW and I attended our JC classmate’s wedding yesterday night at the Rasa Sentosa Resort. Unfortunately, her wedding date clashed with the annual Zoukout event, which culminated in massive traffic and human jams. As a result, we were about an hour and a half late for the wedding and missed the first march-in!! πŸ™

Sigh, we should have set off earlier, but the procrastinator (i.e. me) took ages to get out of bed to dress up. We were in time for the first dish though.

EC looked resplendent in her Kelvin Seah gown. Her gown had a mermaid cut, and was immaculately embellished with lace and organza. Didn’t manage to capture the full gown, but friends of EC can probably catch a glimpse of it on facebook.

Ex-RJ folks. Haven’t seen these people in ages. It has almost been a decade since we last met, but I think everyone still looks as youthful as before. πŸ™‚

On a separate note, I have just gotten my bonus! YAY. The increment should also be within reach soon I assume. How timely, especially with all the extra expenses that renovation works and wedding preparations entail.

Of late, I have been lusting after this pair of heels from Dries Van Noten. I have been looking at it from time to time, but I don’t think I’ll buy it because it is just a fad. I generally prefer classic designs. :).

This babe wears it really well – see http://www.seaofshoes.com. I love her unconventional yet stylish WIW looks.

Another year older and hopefully, wiser

December 8, 2008 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
I initially wanted to have a picnic at Peirce Reservoir, but that was totally out of the question since it was pouring throughout the entire day!! Instead, I spent the day with JW scouting for pretty curtains, furniture and clothes before our dinner at Lawry’s.

I actually enjoy shopping for household items . It was such great fun looking at the myriad of colours and materials at the curtain shop, thinking through which one would complement the interior decor. I swear it was just like shopping for clothes!

Is this a sign that I have taken a step towards Auntie-hood? Gosh, that is unimaginable.

I ordered the Rib-eye Steak at Lawry’s, which was undoubtedly succulent and juicy, but I told JW over lunch at Ivins that frankly, I would be able to appreciate the simple fare at Ivins much more than Lawry’s. Food doesn’t always have to be expensive. I would gladly go to hawker centres just to indulge in good food. πŸ™‚

Increasingly, I tend to prefer Asian food to Western food..somehow the seasoning just makes Asian food taste so much better.

Perhaps it’s also a sign of age? As people get older, they want to go back to their roots. Yet another sign that I have “progressed” towards Auntie-hood. Reminds me of how my parents constantly remind me about their dream to retire in China *shudders*.

All made up and ready to leave the house. No foundation/powder rule still applies. If there was one thing I cannot do without, it has gotta be eyeliner.

For some reason, my face seems to be getting chubbier these days. One more reason for JW to rejoice since he enjoys pinching me at all times of the day.

It was such a cold day that I eventually got myself a knit pullover at Zara just to keep warm. I actually used the weather as a pretext to shop. Gee, I never fail to amaze, don’t I?

Well, in case you’re wondering, the photo certainly does no justice to the pullover. It’s very cute, complete with a ribbon tie in front. I got the last piece in Size S. πŸ™‚

My little birthday cake from the staff at Lawry’s.

It reminded me of the time when we went to Morton’s to celebrate JW’s birthday. The staff would troop over to your table and serenade you with a birthday song sang with so much zest that you can’t help but giggle. Hahaha.

Sorry, I didn’t giggle. I burst out laughing actually. Oops, so much for trying to act demure.

The attire for the day. I invited lots of stares for some reason. Probably the stockings you think? πŸ˜›

The lovely boy got me a surprise gift as well. We were supposed to exchange birthday presents in Europe during our honeymoon, so I was pleasantly surprised when he whipped out a present from the backseat of the car and presented me with a pair of shoes from Sanuk. Only climbers and surfers would be familiar with this brand. It’s supposedly very comfy, but he got it in the wrong size so we’ll have to make our way to Climb Asia one of these days. Frankly, it’s not something that I would usually buy, but I must say it’s an interesting and refreshing change haha. He is so adorable that I always end up laughing at him..oops, I actually meant with him :P.

Ok seriously speaking, I have outgrown the age where material gifts mean a great deal to me. It’s simple gestures like these and the fact that my bf, parents and friends make the effort to buy gifts to surprise me that really touches me. The mere fact that you take time off to keep me company says a million. Deep inside my heart, I know that you are the people whom I can count on for anything, and that alone is immeasurable and priceless. πŸ™‚

Thank you for loving me.
