Conversations with the bf

November 4, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
Whenever I engage in a conversation with my bf, he never fails to amuse me.

Me: Did you read the newspapers today?

JW: Ya I did.

Me: Oh so did you read the money section? (I wanted him to fill me in on any new financial/economic developments cos he reads the papers more regularly than I do. He usually reads the papers quite thoroughly.)

JW: (very enthusiastically) No, but I read the comics in Life! section and they were really funny!!!!

Me: -_-“”””

On a separate note, I received a job offer from a private bank recently. I’m very flattered but I think it may be a little premature for me to move on at this moment. Will see how it goes first. πŸ™‚

My Hair

October 29, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
I went to perm my hair again on Saturday. Erm yea, even when my hair is already curly to begin with. πŸ˜› This time, I went to Karen’s hairstylist at Novena. Her skills are superb, especially when it comes to cutting. She made me reconsider having straight hair again, but I eventually decided I just couldn’t get enough of curls.
I think I have been doing too many chemical treatments of late, so much so that I can sense my hair pleading with me to stop. I am quite amazed by the amount of patience I have, just sitting there treating my fried hair with a wide array of poisonous chemicals.

Karen snipped her hair too. She looks so chic and fresh in her new hairdo that I felt like cutting my hair short too. Alas, I’m addicted to curls, hence the poor girl had to wait 5 torturous hours for me =X.

To cut a long story short, let’s look at the pics. You’d better cherish this moment, for I doubt you’ll ever find uglier photos of me.

Before the perm. I look so pale and haggard!
I am a monster with telephone cords sticking out of my head.
Oh..and now I am a dog. Seriously, if you ask me, I think I could’ve shown up at a halloween party in either of these.

The end result after 5 hours, by which time all the shops had closed πŸ˜‰ Jw & I outside our favourite shop, Prada (disclaimer: this doesn’t mean we shop there frequently).
I don’t quite like this photo cos I think it makes me look very motherly and overtly feminine, but it’s the only one that shows my hair clearly. My friends say it’s super tai tai.. Hahaha.
Ok I think I need to sleep now, though it’s only 10.30. Working is tiring!!!
*****************************************************************************************************

Sometimes, holding a conversation with your bf can be very trying. πŸ˜›

He never notices things like new clothes, a change in my hairstyle etc. and whenever I ask if my new hairdo or attire is nice, he’ll exclaim “YES!” in a rather contrived manner.

Me: You’re almost perfect as a bf, except for one thing.
JW: Is it my acting?

Ugh.

My life thus far

October 19, 2007 by Regina Chow 6 Comments

Work has been extremely hectic this week, and I believe it’ll continue for the next few months or years to come.

There are so many things to learn and pick up, yet so little time. But at the same time, I feel like I’m on a road to self-discovery. I’m quite surprised by myself because my interest in the financial sector seems to be growing more intense with each passing day. I enjoy the exposure that I’m getting so far, but I really pray this has got nothing to do with the novelty of it all.

I attended a conference recently, and was told by 2 Hong Kongers that I look like a HK singer (who apparently can’t sing by the way) by the name of Theresa Fu. I doubt she’s famous in this part of Asia, for I had no inkling who she was when they mentioned her name. Anyway, out of curiosity, I decided to google her. This is what she looks like:
To a large extent, I think our hair, face shape and skin tone do look pretty similar. I reckon she’s probably around my weight too, judging from her petite frame. πŸ˜› She has a nice nose though, but I suspect it was surgically enhanced as there appears to be a very distinct stick-like object in her nose. Haha whatever it is, I personally feel she’s quite pretty, so I take that comment as a compliment. πŸ˜‰

I think she looks very pretty in this photo!Oh I have been saying this year after year, but I really wanna attend a Halloween party this year!!! Not sure if I’ll have time to do so though. πŸ™ And if I do go, what should I dress up as? Some said I should go as a nurse, cos I’m tender, loving and caring (this is an inside joke. If you know what my hotmail address is, you’ll know what I mean). JW thinks I should go as a vampire, but I think I look so harmless that even fangs won’t be of much help. The image doesn’t quite gel with my disposition.

I have not clubbed in ages too..sigh..how to club when all I do is crash on my bed after every single freaking workday. I feel my youth is slowly slipping away. HOW?

Sorry, I just like to whine. πŸ˜› If you managed to survive till the end of this post without clicking on the ‘X’ at the top right hand corner, I would really like to thank you for bearing with me. Haha.
******************************************************************************************************

I was just asking my bf if I should submit part of my work to my boss at 1230am, in case she wants to have a look at it first. But she didn’t bring her laptop home, so how could she possibly read it?

reg says:
if u were me what will u do?

jw says:
i’d let my bf pinch my cheeks real hard

All I can say is, my bf really loves me.

Or rather, my cheeks.

Someone said…

October 17, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
People say that money can’t buy happiness.

This old adage sounds like a wise saying eh, but you’ve yet to hear an even more enlightening quote:

“Whoever said that money can’t buy happiness just doesn’t know where to spend his money”.

Hmmm.. maybe, that person just doesn’t have money to spend at all. Hahaha I agree to a large extent actually :P. It’s true depending on the context of the situation, provided you’re not an extremist.

For a person (like myself) who enjoys fine dining, pampering facial sessions, quality apparel and shoes, she will be able to derive happiness from these material satisfactions which can only be bought by money.

But at the same time, she also enjoys the company of her friends and basks in joy of having her loved ones around her. That in itself is another form of happiness that money can’t buy.

Food for thought?

Tokens of Love :)

October 8, 2007 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

Did I ever mention that JW likes to surprise me with gifts? Haha not all the time though. Only once in a blue moon, but the blue moon seems to be showing up more often than usual these days. πŸ˜‰

Of late, he’s been springing many surprises on me, so much so that I half-suspected he struck lottery or 4D (except that he doesn’t buy lottery or 4D).

First, he bought me a pair of ballet flats from novo simply cos I looked nice in it.

Then, just 2 days ago, while I was waiting for him outside royal plaza hotel’s washroom (he feigned stomachache..silly boy), he suddenly appeared out of nowhere and proudly presented me with a Prada paper bag.

He spotted this wallet when we were shopping two weeks back. I only casually mentioned that it’s a real beauty, and that I would love to buy it if I could ever part with my money. Now, it’s sitting prettily on my table cos I still can’t bear to use it. After all, my Gucci wallet (courtesy of the boy as well), which I have been using for the past 5 years, is still in good condition!!
He thinks he’s addicted to buying branded goods for me hahaha. I’m sure many girls out there would die to have a bf like mine. And I did tell him recently that even if I were to die now, I would die without any regrets cos I think I have already lived a life worth living for.

Not because I have a bf who showers me with material goods, but because I have a bf who loves me for who I am and insists on surprising me with little gifts which I really don’t need and wouldn’t have allowed him to buy if I knew about it beforehand. πŸ˜›

I’m loving my engagement ring more and more with each passing day. πŸ™‚

V’s Wedding

October 6, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
Two weekends ago, I was roped in to be part of the entourage for V’s wedding. It was my 2nd time, and hopefully the last time before I get married!! According to some old wives’ tale, a girl cannot be a ‘”jie mei” (i.e. sister) more than 3 times, or she’ll risk not getting married for the rest of her life. Considering it’s already my 2nd time, I think I’d better reserve the 3rd time till after my wedding (should be in 2008 or early 2009) just to play it safe.

Ya lah, I’m kiasu…cannot is it.

So now let me take the opportunity to tell all my good friends who want me to be their “jie mei” to wait till my wedding ceremony is over before you hold yours!!!! Aiya, wait 1 year only, should be ok right?:P

V was my ex-colleague. In fact, she left one month after I joined the organization, but we continued to stay in touch due to the wonders of technology, or more specifically, MSN Messenger. Unfortunately, I can no longer use MSN at work cos the nature of my work is highly confidential :(.

Yes, I am a government secret agent. Haha..almost there :P.

Back to the wedding. I can never cease to exclaim at how exhausting it is to be a bride, and a “jie mei”. V had to wake up at 6am just to do her makeup. That is an unearthly hour by my standards as I’m not a morning person.

The jie meis were supposed to reach her house at AMK by 730am. Like I said earlier, I’m not a morning person, so I literally crawled out of bed at only 645am. I had barely enough time to slap on some light makeup before dashing out of the house looking like a disheveled wreck. In the end, I reached at 8am. But as the old adage goes, it’s better late than never. πŸ˜› If not for my JW, I would have reached there even later!!

It was really embarrassing though, cos everyone else was already there and they had finished planning all the tricks/games to be played. The efforts proved futile, however, as the groom and his entourage simply refused to do anything except wait for the auspicious hour to arrive, although at one point, they decided to give us a red packet after relentless taunting from V’s real sister (she has 4 sisters!!).

To be honest, it wasn’t even given to us.

I had to snatch it from them.

I opened the red packet (with great expectations of course), and to my absolute horror, therein lay a crisp RUPIAH note. Sigh..what’s happening to men these days??? Ok to be fair, they did give Sing dollars eventually.

I hope it’s just the mature men, cos I have already told JW that he had better look for sporting buddies so that my sisters can have a ball of a time torturing all of them. Hahaha. Indeed, within the sweet exterior lies a sadistic maniac.

See, I am so sweet. Oh did I mention that we didn’t know one another prior to this? But we all hit it off immediately like good old friends.

Us and the gorgeous bride (she has a damn good figure too)!! My hair was still wet and limp then. No time to blow dry.
Us and the handsome couple.
At the couple’s new home. Oops I realised my legs are rather wide apart in this pic. =X

The Wedding Dinner@Grand Plaza Park Hotel the following day – At the registration table. I like this pic, but I was very tired by then.

Our table! I was seated with my ex-colleague and his wife. His wife is a supremely musically talented individual. Not only is she a UK-trained soprano who performs regularly, she is also a piano teacher, armed with a music degree. I hope to pursue my music diploma under her soon :P…sigh but no timeeee… how???

I also got to know a colleague at my current workplace. He too, was seated at my table. What a coincidence. πŸ™‚
Congrats again, V, and zao sheng gui zi!! Hahaha. I want to play with babies, but I don’t want to give birth to any (oops, JW you did not see this).

Hong Kong Trip Sept 2007

September 6, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
I just returned from a 5-day Hong Kong trip with my mum, and to my pleasant surprise, I found a saccharine sweet blog entry written by my dear bf on my own blog *beams*. I missed you too!!

Haha but you already knew that.

Now it’s time to drown all of you in photos. This is my second time to Hong Kong, but somehow, the trip was much more enjoyable. I managed to bag more buys as well :P.

DAY 1: The Avenue of Stars & Lamma Island

The Avenue of Stars is a tribute to the Hong Kong film industry. However, besides the hand prints of various Hong Kong celebrities, a statue of Bruce Lee and the magnificent view of Victoria Harbour, this tourist attraction has nothing much to shout about.

We then headed to Lamma Island for seafood dinner at a restaurant called Rainbow. I thoroughly enjoyed the ferry ride, thanks to the wonderful breeze and the picturesque view of Hong Kong. In particular, the night view was exceptionally captivating.

DAY 2: Golden Bauhinia Square, Repulse Bay, Victoria Peak, Madame Tussauds, Mongkok, Causeway Bay

It wasn’t my first time at the Golden Bauhinia Square and Repulse Bay, but it was certainly my first time taking so many pictures there haha. Basically, there wasn’t much to do at these two places you see. πŸ˜›

Oh, but I made sure I paid my respects to the God of Fortune at Repulse Bay. I mean, who doesn’t like money?!

**The Story of the Red Sticker**

In case you are wondering what that big red sticker on my tunic is, it’s a sticker that we were made to wear for identification purposes, but as you can see, it is also an eyesore in photos. πŸ™

If you observe carefully, the sticker isn’t on me in the pic on the top right hand side. Haha…it got stuck on my hair, but our group’s good-looking photographer (he looks like a Hong Kong actor!!) took it down for me ugh..so that’s why you see the sticker on the bottom right hand side pic.

I must have bored you with the details. Actually, my main intention was to highlight the fact that the photographer was pretty damn good-looking. Wahahaha.

At the beach at Repulse Bay…

I love Victoria Peak!

I wanna stay in one of these houses!! Haha..when JW and I attain tycoon status that is. Talking about property, I was told that my grandfather used to own a house in Wan Zai, but he sold it away. Sigh..if not, we could have gotten free lodging. πŸ™

Madame Tussauds

Jacky Chan looks fake hahaha. I wonder why I decided to purchase this photo.
Madame Tussauds made me feel like the Queen. The royal family was at my beck and call!!

Even Prince William had to pander to my whims and fancies. But why must he make me feel like a dwarf?! Tsk… I should have ordered him to sit on the cushy velvet sofa behind me.

Meet my little brother, Mozart! See, we even have the same pose. Haha.

Now, meet my surrogate boyfriend No. 1 – Aaron Kwok. Check out those abs! But chey, my bf also has abs what. πŸ˜›

Meet my surrogate bf No. 2 – Andy Lau. I’m not that into him, but JW is, so I took this specially for him. Hahaha.

After Madame Tussauds, we adjourned to Argyle Centre at Mongkok for some shopping. I didn’t buy much there though, because most of the clothes are made of relatively poor quality material and the hoards of people there almost suffocated me.

DAY 3: Whole Day of Shopping at Lai Chi Kok & Causeway Bay

No pics of my loot yet as I have not unpacked :P.

Times Square@ Causeway Bay – where my mum and I had our Krispy Kremes haha.

DAY 4: Disneyland, Tung Chung & Lan Kwai Fong

Before I left for Hong Kong, I heard about the poor service and terrible crowds at the Hong Kong Disneyland. It turned out to be better than I expected! In terms of the fun factor however, I still think the US one beats it hands down.

Wearing my new Escada tunic πŸ˜€

My favourite Disney characters of all time. Mickey grabbed me so tightly I thought I was going to get a bruise from his hard cheek. Regardless, I still like Mickey. πŸ˜›

Belle from Beauty & the Beast – She looks like a statue!!
Sleepy Beauty’s Castle
A photo taken during the pooh bear ride, a ride which I really enjoyed. πŸ˜€
A shot of Tomorrowland from the Disney Train. My favourite land because the scariest Disney ride, Space Mountain (a roller coaster ride), is found here!
I love these aliens from Toy Story. They’ll wave at you when you’re on the train.
Disney Train Station

On our way to Tung Chung (you’ll find all the factory outlets there) from Disneyland. I like I.T, a retail shop that carries a few Hong Kong designer labels such as b+ab. b+ab is my favourite!! I used to go crazy over their clothes when I was in Beijing.

I love the lush velvet seats, mickey mouse windows and mickey mouse handrails!

Lan Kwai Fong – After shopping at Tung Chung, I pulled my mum to Lan Kwai Fong with me. Haha, not for drinks of course. We went there for dinner.

Unlucky for me, I got picked up by some Caucasian guy who asked me if I wanted to have dinner with him. Yea, in the presence of my mum. How weird is that.

Caucasian: Would you like to have some dinner?

Me: No, thank you.

Caucasian: Lei mo sek fan ah? (You don’t eat?)

Me: Sek zhor lo (I have already eaten)

Caucasian: Lei mo lou ah? (loosely translated as “no guys keeping you company?”)

Me: TAMADE!!!! (hahaha in my head only of course :P). I just walked away with my mum with my head in the air.

Come to think of it, it was quite hilarious. Hahaha.

DAY 5 – Last minute shopping at Miramar Shopping Centre

We checked out Uniqlo, a Japanese label similar to Muji. In fact, I like it much better than Muji. I also bought a lot of Uniqlo clothes when I was in Beijing.

I can fit into all the skinny jeans there because they come in size 22!!! πŸ˜› Other than Uniqlo, I can only wear size 24 from Levi’s. πŸ™

Ok..time to sleep and unpack tomorrow…

I’m starting work on Monday. Funny how it’s exciting yet dreadful at the same time.

Nitez!!

Away

September 1, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
Hello darling. I’m spending the 3rd consecutive weekend without you (I was in France for the previous two, and now you’re in HK this weekend)… Just wanna say I really appreciate how you’ve been so understanding towards my craziness over climbing. And all those lovely words you’ve penned have definitely struck deep into my heart. It’s gonna be one queer element in our relationship how I’ll be able to partake in your shopping adventures and how you’ll be able to accompany me on my climbing trips, but I’m hopeful that this will only add dimension to our combined life. Haha… Come back safely!!! -Love, JW

My love affair with the UAE

February 21, 2007 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
My recent trip to the UAE (yes, again) proved to be a very fruitful one. There was a lot of work to be done before, during and even after the trip, but I took consolation in whatever little time I managed to spend with my friend, Raf, who is currently stationed in Dubai.

Raf is looking more and more radiant with each day, while I on the other hand, seem to be looking more and more haggard. Yup, that’s me with eye bags and virtually no makeup at the end of another hectic day.

On my last trip to Dubai, I heard so much about the souks there (somewhat like our pasar malams, but classier) but I didn’t have much time for sightseeing then. This time around, I managed to squeeze out some time by sacrificing my beauty sleep. Yup, and so I finally went to a souk! I also took a ride in the Abra, the river taxi.
I only bought a pair of beaded slippers at the souk, and the only reason why I did that was to prevent myself from falling into the river. Silly me wore high heels, and I was told that we had to jump on to the Abra, which was not very stable to begin with. We took some pics in the Abra, but the pics didn’t turn out well and plus, I looked like such a wreck. πŸ˜›

Besides meeting my dear friend, I also managed to shop haha.. which was really no mean feat considering that our schedule was literally packed from morning to night. I bought a couple of tops from Zara (still on sale then!! The Dubai Shopping Festival takes place from end Dec to early Feb). There was an abundance of clothes in S size because most of the people there are much bigger sized than us Asians. I heart Forever21 in UAE too..the dresses cost at most about S$50 and I can always find them in my size. πŸ˜‰

Shopping aside, I also had the privilege of visiting The Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. It is a magnificent 7-star hotel surrounded by lush, sprawling grounds, and it is so well-guarded that only hotel guests or guests with special passes are allowed entry into its premises.

At the end of the trip, we went on a desert safari tour where we were taken right into the heart of the desert to experience the roller-coaster excitement of dune bashing in the comfort of a land cruiser.
We were shrieking and screaming at least half the time because of the sharp turns and scarily high dunes.
Halfway through however, hunger got the better of me, and I started gorging myself with chocolate dates while the rest watched on in bewilderment. Hahaha..Imagine eating while you’re on a rollercoaster ride. That’s exactly what I did. Sorry..hunger knows no boundaries what.

We were given some time to take photos in the desert, but the wind was so strong I retreated back into the land cruiser after 5 minutes. I could feel sand on my face, and even in my mouth..goodness. I think there was a sand storm then.

After the 45 mins ride, we were treated to dinner, henna and belly-dancing in the traditional Bedouin tents.

I was clad in black from head to toe, complete with a black head scarf just like the Arabs because I couldn’t stand the sand, which was irritating my eyes by then. Because I looked almost like an Arab with my dark-lined eyes and fair skin, the group started snapping photos of me.

Alas, it was a pity I didn’t have the photos in my camera as I was too busy being the photography subject.
