Reno Updates…Yet Again

December 7, 2008 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
We popped by the house again this week. Recently, everything revolves around the house and our wedding preparations.

An updated photo of the MBR. I love the chandelier!! The room is painted in a shade of greyish-beige, but it didn’t turn out too well in the photos. We are putting up wallpaper in the recess wall area as well. There will also be full-length curtains in dark red to add a bold contrast to the neutral palette. The cupboard here actually belongs to JW’s walk-in wardobe, which is currently still under construction.

My wide full-length mirror in the walk-in-wardrobe. I haven’t taken a pic of the vanity area, but I’ll take pics once I put up the black string curtains (thanks to my ID’s suggestion). Exactly what I wanted!

Both the rainshower and normal shower head have been installed. We tested the water pressure as well and were relieved to find that the rainshower works perfectly well. Lame as it sounds, the rain shower really makes you feel that you are bathing in the rain.

MBR Bathroom’s table top is up. Decided to go for white instead of black so that it’ll be easier for me to find my contact lenses if they ever drop on to the table. πŸ˜›

The kitchen table top is done too. The backsplash should be completed by this week. White kitchens are very popular these days. We don’t really cook so I reckon maintenance should be a breeze. My ID was the one who suggested the colour theme. Frankly, we are not very concerned about the design of the kitchen as long as it is aesthically pleasing, so we left everything to them. πŸ˜›

Everything is on track thus far and the workmanship seems pretty good too. Our ID has been very obliging and responsive despite the numerous changes that we have requested to certain parts of the house.

They have also helped us tremendously, particularly with the selection of the lights and toilet accessories. Although our ID firm has an existing partnership with a particular light shop in Balestier, our designer didn’t bat an eyelid when we told her we wanted to look around first. She spent a few hours with us, combing through practically all the light shops along Balestier Road before we finally concluded that the shop that she recommended was still the best.

She was instrumental in helping us with our curtain selection as well, given that we are quite clueless about the colours and materials that we should choose. Most importantly, there are no extra fees for the additional things that we have requested for *fingers crossed*!!

After interacting with them over the past 6 months or so, our relationship has somewhat progressed from a working relationship to that of friendship. Both the boss and designer will be attending our wedding too. πŸ™‚

On a separate note, today’s my birthday!!! Yay, since it falls on a public holiday, I don’t have to take leave. πŸ˜› The lovely colleagues gave me a treat at Hanabi last week, where I ate till I couldn’t move. Met up with some old friends over dinner as well, and I got pressies from Jacq & Shihui! Little gestures like these always make me smile. πŸ˜‰

Renovation Works

November 30, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments

Bits and pieces of our new home are finally coming together after almost half a year. Most would take about 2 months max to complete their renovation works, but we took much longer than usual due to several reasons. I shan’t bore you with the details.

Photos taken yesterday
1) Living Room by day

We decided to paint the living room a greyish-beige hue to complement the black and white wallpaper TV console (not up yet) and black cabinets.
2) Dining Area by day

The dining room is in a chocolate brown shade. Looks purplish in photos below because of the bright light.

Photos taken today
We went up to our apartment again today because the most of the lights and cupboards were up. I love the dining room lights and master bedroom chandelier.

1)Living Room by Night

The false ceiling and cove lighting are finally completed.

TV Console – Wallpaper to be put up soon

2) Dining Area

The dining room lights are up!

I love this to bits because of the baroque motifs and intricate details. The bulbs are not as conspicuous in real life.

3) Walk-in Wardrobe

I’m so glad I chose a dark shade of brown for my WIW. It comes together with a custom-made vanity area too. No photos of that yet.

4) Kitchen

White kitchen cabinets. The doors are actually embossed with baroque floral motifs.

5) Master Bedroom Toilet

White WC and washbasin. Table top will be in black.

Can’t wait for my MBR chandelier to be up! No pics of my master bedroom yet as there’s really nothing much to photograph except for the painted walls. πŸ˜‰

Wine, Dine and Shop

November 22, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
This week has been terribly hectic. I’ve been eating so much good food that I now crave for plain congee. That’s what happens when you have 8 course lunches at Lei Garden and Royal China the whole week.
And here’s what happens when I feel worn out:

1) Shop

I go shopping! Being the decisive shopper that I am, I bagged the lipstick and eyeshadow palette from MAC in just 15 minutes while I was on the way back to office.

I used MAC black track liner, the eye shadows in the first column of the palette, the lipstick and sunblock here. As usual, the yellow lighting in my room makes me look jaundiced.

I’ve been looking high and low for a cheap biker jacket just to spice up my wardrobe (no, not the Harley Davidson type please). Finally found what I wanted from nellyjoy:

It doesn’t go with my curls though, so I would probably have to bun up my hair or something.

2) Drink
I really liked the wine that we had yesterday as well. We had Moscato – deliciously sweet fruit wine.

What a delightful way to wind down after a long arduous week of back-to-back meetings.

I can’t wait for my honeymoon in January. I’m taking the whole month off! Yippie!

***********************

On a separate note, I have been told that some people find me rather fearsome. Perhaps based on societal views, I come across as being a materialistic person, since I’m always well-groomed (apparently) and decked out in suits or silk dresses. Well..given the nature of my job, I can’t afford not to dress up ya know…

Perhaps some are not aware that I do enjoy the simple pleasures in life. I don’t really do much on weekends except eat. My bf can certainly attest to that hahaha. Oh and I spend most Sundays at home working.

I love going for walks in Peirce Reservoir, Seletar Reservoir..basically anywhere with green pastures and calm waters. I don’t have to go overseas to enjoy the beauty of nature when it’s just at my doorstep. There are people who supposedly lead simple lives traveling around the world to immerse themselves in nature. While there is absolutely no fault in that, I can’t help but wonder if this is a false sense of simplicity…

Perhaps the act of immersing yourselves in nature is simple, but you can’t deny that the desire to go to Europe, South Africa, USA etc. is in a way a materialistic pursuit. After all, it is very financially draining.

While I sometimes do have the impetus to just put down whatever I’m doing to travel around the world, I just don’t think it’s prudent to sacrifice my financial resources (yes I am still financially stable, in case you were wondering). πŸ˜‰

So, if travelling the world just to be close to nature is a simple pursuit, who is to say that shopping is not? πŸ˜‰

Weddings

November 16, 2008 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

This month is all about weddings. Not only have I attended 3 weddings so far – Ash’s, Yvonne’s and KP’s, I have been busy finalizing the guest list and making trips to the florist, printer and hotel.

Besides weddings, this month also marks the beloved boy’s birthday. I treated him to Akashi restaurant’s baby red snapper sashimi (seasonal catch), puffer fish and other delicacies which were not listed in the menu. No pictures though. As usual, I gobbled up everything. Frankly, if you see food pics in my blog, it probably means I didn’t like the food enough. πŸ˜›

His family also celebrated for him at Hoshigaoka restaurant, as suggested by the birthday boy because he has a discount there.

Random pics:

Polaroid shot taken at the reception. We loved the idea!!

I’ve been staying off foundation, powder and blusher for the past few months. My skin is finally breathing and has a healthy glow. I hope I’ll never have to see these cosmetics on my face again (except on my wedding day)! πŸ˜‰

October 30, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments

JW accidentally left his mobile phone in my house just now, so I alerted my mum who was seated near the main door.

Me: JW left his phone here!!
Mum: Then how? Quickly call him la!!!

My mum has the greatest sense of humour, doesn’t she?

SMS Boo-boo

October 25, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
We met up with KC, our prewedding photographer, earlier this week to collect a softcopy of the photos. Prior to that, I exchanged a number of smses with him.

KC: Can I meet you later, like around 8pm?

Me: Darling, KC asked if he can meet us later, but I’m feeling very tired. Can you pick me up earlier? [this msg was actually meant for JW, but I somehow sent it to KC instead]

KC: Wrong darling la. Anyway, I can meet you earlier.

How embarrassing. πŸ˜›

Jap Food Galore

October 16, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
I caught up with some old friends at my favourite yakitori restaurant in town – Nanbantei. The other must-try items on the menu are the grilled Gindara (Cod fish) and grilled corn cob.By the time I whipped out my camera, we had already finished almost all the food on the table. If you haven’t noticed by now, I hardly ever take photos of my food. πŸ˜›

While TS and Ash were deep in conversation, Karen and I were busy exchanging cameras, making silly actions and camwhoring. I had such a hard time trying to restrain my laughter. Sorry, I am not as demure as I look. In fact, I was trying my best not to burst out laughing in this picture.

These were the people who made my Beijing stint bearable, and it warms my heart to know that our friendship transcends all boundaries. πŸ™‚ It has been 2-3 yrs now, but we have always made it a point to keep in touch with one another although we have all moved on to the different stages of our lives. Some have relocated for work and couldn’t join us for dinner. Others like TS are now mothers, while Ash and myself are walking down the aisle within the next couple of months.

After dinner, JW picked me up for a drink at Starbucks followed by a heartwarming yet absoluting hilarious French movie entitled “Welcome to the Land of the Shtis”. I was bowled over by the portrayal of human emotions, witty dialogues and vivid images of quaint village houses tucked away amidst serenity.

JW’s attempt at an artistic “armpit” shot (except that in this case, the armpit has been replaced by the handle of a mug.
His supposedly artistic angled shot:

Normal shot:

Weeks ago, we also celebrated JW’s sis’s birthday at Sun with Moon. It’s such a coincidence because my bro’s birthday falls in the month of October too. This month is really a month filled with birthdays, baby showers and other celebrations. Next month is a month of weddings. How broke can I get?!

I usually don’t do lunch on weekends because I can’t wake up in time. Even if I do manage to wake up, I can never open my eyes wide. That explains the sleepy eyes here.

Family shot.

My favourite classical compositions

October 4, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
Some of my friends may be aware that I took music as an GCE ‘O’ level subject and that I have a Grade 8 ABRSM cert (distinction).

As much as I like music, I never did pursue my music diploma as I eventually placed greater emphasis on my academic studies. I think that’s one of my greatest regrets to date. I might not be as talented as Lang Lang, Kissin, Rubenstein etc., but I could have had the opportunity to pursue one of my passions as a career, which is more meaningful than being trapped in one corporate environment after another simply because there are no viable career options outside the corporate world.

Listening to some of my favourite classical compositions never fails to evoke melancholic memories, and I can’t help but feel bitter about this particular decision that I made in the past.

Anyway, here are my favourite classical compositions. Just thought it’ll be nice to share these masterpieces:

1) Verdi’s La Traviata (Placido Domingo and Lucia Popp)

2) Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 (Daniel Barenboim)

3) Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata Movement 2

4) Liszt’s Liebestraum (Lang Lang)
