Mary Chia Intensive Weight Vaporiser Treatment

November 10, 2014 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

While it is difficult to imagine that slimming is one of my concerns, health, fitness and wellness are certainly areas that are close to my heart, especially as age catches up with me.

So yes, today’s post may be about Mary Chia’s Intensive Weight Vaporiser, one of the most popular slimming treatments offered by the leading beauty and slimming specialist, but it isn’t entirely about weight loss.

Mary Chia is Singapore’s first home-grown lifestyle and wellness service provider to be publicly listed on the SGX-ST Catalist, and it now operates 8 outlets in Singapore, 6 outlets in Malaysia, with 3 unique spa concepts that cater to different demographics.

When I heard that their Intensive Weight Vaporiser treatment improves blood circulation and serves as an effective detox for my body even if slimming may not be my top priority, I decided it would be interesting to give it a try. The best part is, no pills, injections or special dietary requirements are needed.

Who’s suitable for this treatment?

This

treatment is generally suitable for anyone who wants to lose weight or
detox. However, if you have
health issues such as heart problems and high blood pressure, or if you
are pregnant, you may wish to seek professional medical advice before
embarking on this treatment.

So, what’s the treatment like?

I will be giving you a step-by-step run-through of the treatment to give you a better understanding of what to expect. Read on to find out more.

Step 1: Personalized Consultation and BMI Analysis

I was brought into a private room to fill up a form on my health and skin concerns before I was ushered to a machine for a BMI analysis which gives a detailed breakdown of my fat percentage, bone mass, muscle mass as well as what my ideal weight and fat percentage should be.

This is perhaps the most important step in the treatment because a thorough analysis and personalized consultation gives the consultant a better understanding of your body and health condition, allowing her to customize the programme to optimize its effectiveness. Based on this assessment, the consultant would also be able to better advice you on the number of sessions required to achieve your desired results.

I have always been underweight because of my small bone structure (trust me, I do eat and my husband claims I eat more than him!), thus the consultant shared that I could consider doing the treatment just once a month for detox and overall wellness.

Step 2: Vibration Bed

After the consultation, I was escorted to the locker area to keep my personal belongings and change out into a comfortable robe before proceeding to the treatment rooms. I must say I was pretty impressed with the finger print identification technology used for the lockers!

I have to admit I was a little apprehensive when I first saw the vibration bed because I have never seen a machine quite like this. I laid down on my back, with my head nestled into the cushion and my legs propped up. The vertical cocoon-like contraption was then pulled down horizontally to cover my body.

The vibration bed heated up instantly to about 40 degrees Celsius and a series of vibrations ran through the entire bed.

I could feel my body rocking from side to side as I began to work up a sweat. Did you know that 15 minutes on this vibration bed is equivalent to 45 minutes of rigorous exercise? If exercise is not your cup of tea, this vibration bed is probably just what you need.

Even if you exercise regularly, there are times when you sustain injuries. For instance, I suffered a back injury recently and had to stay off my yoga mat for a period of time. This vibration bed serves as an ideal substitute for exercise in such situations as the vibrations and rocking motions are gentle enough to prevent further injury while you reap the same benefits of exercising. In fact, I was told that many elderly clients who have difficulties moving about get their dose of exercise through this low impact vibration bed too.

Besides providing an alternative
to exercise, the vibration bed also promotes lymphatic drainage, which
is great for detox, relieving water retention and weight loss.

My verdict? It definitely felt like a good workout and I really liked the massaging effect on my back as well.

For those of you who are interested in weight loss, you’ll be happy to know that you can lose approximately 500g – 2kg after each session, while you are lying comfortably on the vibration bed. It actually felt so comfortable that I dozed off after a while.

Step 3: Sauna

Right after wiping off beads of perspiration from my “workout” on the vibration bed, I was led to the sauna for another 15 minutes. Despite the heat (around 45 degrees Celsius), it was a  relaxing experience as I was given some magazines to while my time away, which I thought was a very thoughtful gesture.

The sauna provides physical rejuvenation and improves blood circulation, refreshing the mind and body while sealing in slimming benefits to achieve a svelte figure.

Step 4: Air-Pressure Slimmer

The Air-Pressure Slimmer is yet another interesting device that promotes lymphatic drainage and improves blood circulation. Targeted at the waist and stomach area, an inflatable strap is wrapped around your stomach.

The strap inflates gradually at first, tightening its grip on your tummy before it deflates and completely releases its hold. This process continues for approximately 15 minutes.

Step 5: Full Body Wrap

Finally, the treatment concludes with a full body wrap, where the consultant uses a large roll of cling film to tightly wrap around my body. The full body wrap firms up your skin while you continue to perspire and the effect is akin to that of wearing shape wear or compression garments.

As you are required to wear this body wrap for around 2 hours, it would be best to wear long sleeves and long pants for the treatment.

Step 6: Treatment Feedback

At the end of the treatment, I was offered a glass of tea to replenish the fluids that I lost. My consultant also came by to seek my feedback on the treatment and answer any additional queries that I may have. I appreciated her attention to detail and personalized service, which added a nice touch to the overall experience.

How did I feel after the treatment?

When I first arrived at Mary Chia, I was feeling rather lethargic as I had just returned from Maldives on a red-eye flight that very day but after the treatment, I felt completely refreshed and re-energized.

My skin was glowing and I felt the same rush of adrenalin that I would usually get from hot yoga, except that the nature of this treatment was of a much lower intensity than exercise. I would actually consider doing this on a monthly basis for detox.

Yun Nam Hair Care Review

October 21, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
After my 7th session at Yun Nam Hair Care
In the blink of an eye, I have since completed 3/4 of my treatment package with Yun Nam Hair Care. Time flies, and under the meticulous care of my hair care consultant, my scalp condition has improved by leaps and bounds. My scalp feels squeaky clean and less oily, and the occasional itch that I used to experience has gone away completely. Hair fall had greatly reduced too. More importantly, I have scan results to prove that I am on the right track!
Just take a look at my recent scalp scan results below. A comparison of my ‘before’ (13 Aug 2014) and ‘after’ (17 Oct 2014) scan results shows a marked improvement. My hair follicles are now clearly visible and there are less cloudy particles surrounding my follicles, which means that I have less dead cells and my scalp is much cleaner.
Evidently,
the past 6 sessions of deep cleansing treatments at Yun Nam Hair Care
worked really well on me. My scalp is now ready for the next phase of
treatments which focuses on nutrition to further enhance my overall scalp health.
Here’s the herbal formula used in the course of the nutrition treatment. The main ingredients are ginseng and Polygonum Multiflorum (commonly known as He Shou Wu in Chinese).
This herbal mixture was applied to my scalp and the roots of my hair with a brush. After a gentle massage, a red cap was then placed over my head before the steaming process began. I was told that this red cap helps my scalp to effectively absorb all the nutrients and goodness from the herbs.
As always, I left Yun Nam Hair Care with beautiful, shiny hair. Every session feels so incredibly pampering and relaxing, I always end up looking forward to my next session. The best part is, the treatments do wonders for my scalp.
Nonetheless, I am not one who rests on my laurels. To prolong the efficacy of the hair treatments between sessions, I use Yun Nam Hair Care’s home care products for daily maintenance. I have shared at length about Yun Nam Hair Care’s shampoo, conditioner, cleansing lotion and renewal lotion here previously, but I have yet to shed some light on the leave-in treatments that I use everyday.

The Hair Nutritional Lotion is formulated from traditional herbs (primarily ginseng) and is fortified with nutrients to revitalize your scalp and hair. It works like a scalp tonic, hence I typically spray this directly onto my scalp after I get out of the shower.

After spraying
this evenly onto my scalp, I proceed to give my scalp a gentle massage.
This helps the nutrients to penetrate deeply.
The other leave-in product that I use on a daily basis is Yun Nam Hair Care’s Protein Essence, which works just like a leave-in conditioner. It is specially formulated to repair and restore moisture to dry and damaged hair due to high heat treatment.
I spray this product directly to the middle section of my hair all the way to the hair ends after showering, when it is still a little damp. I love the refreshing apple scent and the glorious shine that it imparts to my hair.

Thank you once again to Yun Nam Hair Care for giving me beautiful, healthy hair!

100 Doraemon Secret Gadgets Expo in JB City Square Mall (Now till 4th Jan 2015)

October 20, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

Not sure where to head to during the weekend? Perhaps you could head across the Causeway to JB City Square Mall Level 1 for the 100 Doraemon Secret Gadgets Expo.
On from now till 4th Jan 2015, the 100 Doraemon Secret Gadgets Expo showcases 100 life-sized Doraemon figurines, 100 iconic gadgets and memorable scenes in Doraemon stories. Even if you’re
not a Doraemon fan, the photo opportunities and interesting
gadgets will certainly blow your mind. If you have kids in
tow, I’m sure they’ll be just as, if not more entertained!
Tickets are affordably priced at RM25 for adults (aged 13 and above) and RM15 for kids (aged 4 – 12). Senior citizens and very young children (below 90cm) can enter for free too.

You can literally find a Doraemon in every nook and corner, and if you follow the comic series, you can probably identify most, if not all of the gadgets. For Doraemon lovers, this is definitely a feast for the eyes.

Karen, Janice, Raphael and I headed to the expo on a Saturday afternoon. We had so much fun goofing around with the Doraemon figurines, toying with all the fanciful gadgets and discovering new, fascinating facts about Doraemon.

Fun Facts about Doraemon

Did you know that Doraemon is a cat with ears that used to be yellow? I had absolutely no idea!
An unexpected twist of events led to Doraemon losing its ears to a mouse. This incident scarred him for life and caused him to fear mice.

How did Doraemon become blue then? Poor Doraemon tried to cheer himself up when his girlfriend Noramyako laughed at his missing ears, but instead of drinking a cheer-up potion, he drank a sorrow potion that made him cry for 3 days till he eventually turned blue!

Popular Doraemon Gadgets
At the entrance of the expo, you will find the “Dokodemo Door”, which allows you to travel anywhere simply by walking through the door.

Dokodemo Door

The “Time Machine” is another popular gadget at the expo. I love how the psychedelic lights create the illusion that you are travelling through time and space.

Time Machine

Anyone who has caught an episode of the Doraemon cartoon would find the “Hopter” familiar.
I used to wake up early every Sunday morning just to catch Doraemon at 9.30 a.m. and the “Hopter” is one gadget that left the deepest impression on me. This bamboo propeller is meant to airlift you to safety but it looks more fun to me than anything else. I would love to be able to fly from one destination to the next just by attaching the “Hopter” to my head!

Hopter

Want to take a peek at what everything looks like in a 100 years’ time?  Place the “Future Glasses” in front of your eyes for a sneak preview!

Future Glasses

The “Air Cannon” creates a powerful burst of air that can easily knock out your enemy. All you have to do is attach it to your hand and say “Bang”. Finally, here’s a weapon that doesn’t run out of bullets because it doesn’t require any!

Air Cannon

Having difficulties memorizing your notes for tomorrow’s exam or your speech for an important event? Here comes the “Memory Bread” to the rescue! Place the bread against whatever you need to memorize, and a special mechanism in the bread will store all the information required. Thereafter, eat up the bread and everything’s stored in your memory!
If only this exists in reality.  I would buy a loaf of this bread everyday.

Memory Bread

Want to experience a day in the life of a Lilliputian (for those of you who’ve read Gulliver’s Travels)? You could jolly well fulfill your dream with the “Small Light”, a device that shrinks people and objects.
The Small Light

Besides these popular gadgets, there many other interesting gadgets that double up as great photo backdrops.

Iconic Doraemon Scenes
Gadgets aside, a Doraemon expo will not be complete without iconic scenes from the anime. Here are some of the most unforgettable scenes in Doraemon:

1. The First Appearance of Doraemon
Doraemon first popped out of a drawer in Nobita’s bedroom, catching him by surprise.

2. Nobita’s Wedding
Doraemon fans would know that Nobita always had a thing for Shizuka. The pair did eventually end up together.

3. Nobita’s Grandmother
The teddy bear in the photo below was a precious gift from Nobita’s grandmother. Nobita found the teddy bear in his stash of old belongings and it reminded him of how much he missed his grandmother, hence he asked Doraemon to take him back to three years ago when his grandmother was still alive.

4. Farewell between Doraemon and Nobita

5. Nobita’s classroom
A new scene at the Doraemon expo, fans can expect to sit in Nobita’s class, which comes complete with a teacher and blackboard.

Nobita’s Friends

You’ll also get to meet many of Nobita’s friends during the expo.

The numerous photo-taking opportunities made the entire experience an engaging and interactive one. Suitable for all ages, the Doraemon expo provides a great opportunity for family bonding and for friends to get together. It was a fun-filled afternoon for all of us and we had a marvelous time snapping away.
Much thanks and love also goes out to Janice for being my personal photographer this time!
Doraemon Cafe
And if you still haven’t had enough of Doraemon, you can pop by the Doraemon Cafe located on Level 1 (Atrium) and Level 5 to try out Doraemon’s favourite snacks!

Many thanks to Alvin for sharing the cafe photos with us!

Fashion Fridays: The Little Nude Dress

October 17, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
The little black dress has and always will be a wardrobe staple, but the often neglected little nude dress is just as timeless, don’t you think? The personification of grace and sophistication, the little nude dress has a softer, gentler side that allows you to make a statement with understated elegance.

One wonderful aspect about this subtle hue is that it gives you free rein to play around with textures and layers. In this case, cascading ruffles are the main focal point of my little nude dress. Details like ruffles lend an inexplicably girly appeal to nude dresses.  On the contrary, imagine if the dress was in a darker shade like black. The striking colour coupled with ruffles would give the dress a more garish persona. If gaudy and overdone are adjectives that you would like to avoid, sticking to subtler shades would be your best bet.

To jazz up the plain colour palette, I threw on a pair of fierce animal print lace-up heels from Zara in a similar hue no less. Lace-up heels never fail to add a dose of edginess without compromising on femininity.
To balance out the edginess, a touch of pearls in the form of earrings and an arm cuff were added to complete the ensemble.

Dress from Yuan (Far East Plaza)
Shoes from Zara
Clutch from Saint Laurent
Accessories from Chanel

This series of photographs was taken at Quayside Isle, one of only places in Singapore that reminds me of Sydney and instantly puts me in a holiday mood. Quality couple
time, fresh air and outdoor activities that do not involve shopping
malls, sprawling beaches and the beautiful harbour – these are just some
of the things I miss. On a totally unrelated note, the one year we spent in Sydney created so many wondrous memories and personal development opportunities, both for us as a couple and for each of us as an individual.
What struck me the hardest was that work-life balance, an important aspect that Singaporeans value but strive so hard to achieve, seemed to come so naturally to those who live in Australia.  The one year in Sydney led me to realize that there is more to life than making a living.
Life used to be all about work for me. I used to be more negative and cynical, frequently complaining about how badly life was treating me. We all need to make a living, but more importantly, we need to create a life worth living for. That nagging thought gave me the impetus to pursue my passion for writing relentlessly, through blogging.
I write a lot in the course of my work, but creative writing is a different ballgame altogether. Your vocabulary is wider, your sentence structures less restricted, and your thoughts are allowed to run wild, no holds barred. It excites my senses and stimulates every cell in my body. It makes me feel alive. And this is what keeps me going, day after day.
I might write about fashion today, my travel escapades tomorrow and beauty products the following day, but every single word that is printed on this humble space comes straight from my heart. You cannot believe how thankful I am to each and every one of you out there who continue to read my ramblings, and I hope today’s Fashion Fridays post would serve as a source of inspiration to you, beyond just fashion, to pursue your passion, live your dreams and bring meaning to your lives.
Have a great weekend ahead!

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Skincare Range for Oily Skin

September 30, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

The Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free skincare range couldn’t have arrived at my doorstep at a better time as I recently discovered that I have oily but dehydrated skin.
Can oily skin be dry at the same time?
My skin looks oily on the surface but there are signs of flaking if I don’t moisturize adequately. Sounds contradictory? Totally not.
Those of us with oily skin tend to skip moisturizer, thinking that our skin already feels moisturized anyway. We are also afraid that our skin will look oilier after applying moisturizer. Contrary to popular belief, it is not true that people with oily skin do not need to moisturize because beneath that oily exterior, your skin may be sorely lacking in moisture (like mine), which then results in dry, flaky skin.
I have tried several skincare brands and products. Most fare well in terms of hydration but I can’t say the same when it comes to the oil control. That’s where Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free range makes a difference.
After using this skincare range for about a month, I feel that my skin feels more matte and  hydrated than before.

Moisture without the shine – isn’t that a dream come true?

1) Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser (S$43, 150ml)

What I love about Kiehl’s products it that they are paraben-free, sulphate-free, silicone-free, oil-free and fragrance-free. Hence, you have nothing to fear even if you have sensitive skin. To reduce my level of exposure to unnecessary chemicals, I generally prefer products that do not contain these ingredients as well.

A pea sized amount is all I need to create sufficient lather for the entire face. My skin feels thoroughly cleansed yet hydrated as this facial cleanser is specially formulated with Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract to retain and restore moisture, even as it removes excess oil and impurities. It also contains Lemon Fruit Extracts which have astringent and antiseptic qualities to perk up and refresh tired, sluggish skin.
I am using this cleanser on a daily basis and this is one product that I would repurchase as I really like the slightly tight, squeaky clean feeling after cleansing. I would recommend this to people with oily skin. That said, this cleanser is best paired with the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Toner to balance out the skin’s moisture level.
2) Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil Free Toner (S$43, 150ml)

This toner is alcohol-free, paraben-free, sulphate-free, silicone-free and fragrance-free. Made from Imperata Cylindrica root extract and antarcticine, a glycolprotein found in the Antartic Sea, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil Free toner gently hydrates and soothes your skin by balancing your skin’s pH level.
I use it after the facial cleanser to remove any residual impurities and I love how it leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean, without stripping it of moisture. I especially like to use this when my skin breaks out during that time of the month as it effectively double cleanses my face to remove any excess oil. I currently alternate between this and my SKII Facial Treatment Essence (which is more nourishing) depending on my skin’s condition.

3) Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream (S$48 for 50ml or S$82 for 125ml)

I love
cream-based moisturizers for their nourishing properties, but they are
usually too rich for my skin, which results in the formation of milia
seeds. Gel-based moisturizers like this one are definitely more suitable for oily skin.

The lightweight gel texture absorbs readily into my skin, giving it a dose of much-needed moisture without that rich, creamy after-feel that most moisturizers tend to impart. There is absolutely no residue after application, and I adore how silky smooth and plumped up my skin feels immediately. Most importantly, it doesn’t give me milia seeds.
What is really impressive about this moisturizer is that despite its almost feather-light  texture, it is more hydrating than most of the other gel-based moisturizers that I have tried. In fact, it feels just like an intensive serum cum moisturizer.

I would highly recommend this skincare range to anyone with oily skin. Its key strength lies in oil control without compromising on hydration, and the entire range has worked particularly well on me thus far. If you have oily skin as well, perhaps you could give this a try!

Malacca Food: What and Where to Eat

September 29, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
We were brought on a mini food
trail hosted by the lovely staff of
Julie’s Biscuit during our recent sponsored trip to Malacca and while I
can’t speak on behalf of everyone, I for one couldn’t stop munching on
the delectable delights that the vibrant city had to offer.
Malacca is a food haven, there’s no doubt about that. Give me chicken rice balls, chendol, nyonya food and durian puffs any time, any day.

Let’s start with Jonker Walk, one of the most iconic tourist attractions in Malacca. Lined with street hawkers peddling local delicacies, knick knacks, trinklets and apparels,
the street is always bustling with life. Weaving in and out of the maddening crowd is part and parcel of the entire experience, and while it can be rather exasperating at times to be stuck in a human jam, there is always something interesting
in every nook and corner, ready to enchant and captivate.

If you are a fan of pineapple tarts, be sure to stop by Madam Goh. There are more than 10 shops selling pineapple tarts along Jonker Walk, but the pineapple tarts here are by far the yummiest that I’ve tried.

Madam Goh Nyonya Pineapple Tarts House
Jonker Walk
Tel: 06-335-1561
I love that the slightly crisp outer crust is so creamy and milky, it almost melts in your mouth. And as I sink my teeth deeper into the buttery confection, I am immediately greeted by a generous dollop of pineapple filling that is sweetened to perfection.
I have a penchant for durians and I’ve heard so much about One Bite Durian Puff along Jonker Street.

Encased within a soft fluffy puff pastry, the durian filling is rich and bursting with flavour. As the name suggests, you are supposed to devour the entire puff in one bite, but it was way too huge for me. I took at least 5 bites. With every bite, I had to rotate and contort my wrist in different directions just to prevent the delicious durian filling from oozing out on to my hands.

Every bite gave me immense pleasure, so much so that I decided one durian puff was simply not enough for me. This is definitely a must-try if you are a durian fan!

Aside from street food, Malacca is also renowned for its authentic Perakanan cuisine, otherwise known as Nyonya food. We were hosted to a wonderful dinner at Restoran Nyonya Makko, one of the most established Nyonya restaurants in Malacca.

Restoran Nyonya Makko
123, Jalan Merdeka, Taman Melaka Raya, Melaka
Tel: 06-2840-737

These were just some of the dishes that we had and every dish was sumptuous. It is quite impossible to go wrong with an establishment that has been around for 27 years and before long, everyone at the table abandoned their cameras to tuck into the splendid spread of Nyonya delicacies.

I’m not sure about you, but I have a separate compartment reserved for desserts, and even as I was bursting at the seams from all the glorious food, I had to have my Chendol!
The key ingredients in Chendol include coconut milk, green jelly noodles made from rice flour, shaved ice and palm sugar. It sounds simple enough to make, but I guess the secret to a good bowl of Chendol lies in the quality and the proportions of ingredients.
If you are familiar with Malacca, you would probably have heard about their fabulous Chendol and the snaking queues at this particular stall along Jonker Walk. I personally feel that Restoran Nyonya Makko’s is just as delish.

Chicken Rice Balls are my absolute favourite, which is why I saved the best for last. The most famous chicken rice ball stall in Malacca is probably Chung Wah Chicken Rice Balls, but the massive queues can serve as a deterrent, especially when your stomach is growling.
I have little patience and I get grumpy when hunger gets the better of me, so I was really happy when the Julie’s Biscuit staff introduced us to another chicken rice ball stall that is equally yummy to satisfy my cravings.

Did you know that Ee Ji Ban Chicken Rice Ball is apparently the only halal chicken rice ball stall in Malacca?

The chicken rice balls were moist, fragrant and slightly sticky. I especially love the soft and smooth texture, which makes it incredibly easy to swallow. That probably explains why I ate up close to 20 rice balls in one seating.

The other dishes were equally mouthwatering. The chicken was juicy and succulent but in my opinion, the sambal squids took the cake. The sambal chilli was simply superb.

The abundance of good food in Malacca is such a huge draw and I can’t wait to head back to explore and discover new eating places. There is so much more that Malacca has to offer, and what I have shared in this post barely scratches the surface.
Are there any other restaurants or cafes in Malacca that you would recommend?

TruLife Ready to Drink Supplements

September 18, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

Restoring a healthy balance and rejuvenating my skin from within are two of my key priorities now that I’m well into my early 30s. Aside from exercise (hot yoga in my case), I’ve been incorporating supplements into my daily regime in a bid to maintain a healthy, energetic lifestyle and to keep my skin glowing. Thanks to Vanity Trove’s invitation, I was introduced to TruLife’s ready to drink supplements during their product launch at Willow Stream Spa recently.

TruLife is a newly launched contemporary healthcare brand by Poli Medical, an established Singapore-based company that has served the TCM needs of many Singaporeans since 1971. TruLife is acutely aware that today’s society thrives on convenience and aims to answer the health and lifestyle needs of consumers with this in mind.
Manufactured in Singapore, TruLife’s ready to drink supplements combine powerful active ingredients that are rapidly absorbed by our body for targeted results, giving us the luminous glow of health from within.

The best part is, these supplements are completely sugar-free and additive-free.

Collagen Cell Renew – For Bright & Radiant Complexion (S$56.60)

I am a huge fan of collagen drinks and most of the collagen drinks that I have tried in the past contain preservatives and added sugar. I couldn’t be happier when I
found out that one of TruLife’s latest state-of-the-art products
includes Collagen Cell Renew, a collagen drink that contains 15,000mg dosage of Micro Marine Collagen Peptides.
Collagen Cell Renew is clinically proven to increase moisture levels by 50% and decrease UV spot area by 13%. It also targets fine lines and brightens your complexion, leaving you with smooth, supple skin.
I have previously read about how difficult it is for our body to absorb collagen due to its large molecule size, hence you can imagine my delight when I was told that only low molecular weight collagen peptides of deep sea fish origin are used to enhance absorption levels and ensure that our body absorbs the highest grade of collagen available today.

I was given a box of 10 Collagen Cell Renew supplements to try at home. Having read that effects are visible after just 10 days, I drank a bottle everyday before bed. It is recommended that you take this before bed as your body is better able to absorb the nutrients to achieve optimal results.
As no sugar is added, I was half expecting the drink supplement to taste bland or in the worst case scenario, bitter. I took my first sip gingerly and to my surprise, it was just as sweet and palatable as other collagen drinks that I’ve tried. Unlike other collagen drinks, the Collagen Cell Renew has a thicker and more viscous consistency, which I believe is largely attributed to the higher concentration of collagen peptides.

Did I see any results after 10 days?
To ensure that I could make a fair assessment of the supplements, no changes were made to my daily skincare routine. Aside from pigmentation at my cheek bone area, my skin tone is pretty even thanks to my whitening skincare regime, which I have been adhering to religiously for a few years now.
While I didn’t see significant improvements in my overall skin tone, I did notice that the pigmentation around my cheek bone area seemed to have lightened and I could get away with less concealer than usual. My skin also felt firmer, softer and well-moisturized.
I am not certain as to how enduring the effects are and if further improvements can be seen if I were to take this supplement in the longer term, but the results that it achieved in just 10 days are enticing enough to make me want to buy another box!

Besides Collagen Cell Renew, we were also given a thorough introduction to the full range of TruLife’s ready to drink supplements and products by Mr Dylan Hu (Director of Poli Medical and third generation business leader) as we nibbled on delicious canapes between sips of yummy fruit-infused water.

Mr Dylan Hu, Director of Poli Medical

Yingjie, a seasoned TCM practictioner, was also present to give us tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Based on TCM theories, the key to achieving good health is to balance the Yin and Yang energies.
Yingjie, TCM Practitioner
Here are the other two ready to drink supplements that we were introduced to:
Herbal System Detox – Stay Lean with Less Effort (S$45.95)

Herbal System Detox helps to improve kidney and liver functions by stimulating regular bowel movement, thereby preventing toxin accumulation and increasing metabolism. It also enhances digestive health and reduces oil absorption after meals.
 It contains six
natural active ingredients, namely Green Tea, Lotus Leaf, Folium Sennae,
Hawthorn Fruit, Herbal Plantaginis and Cassia Seed to hasten the
detoxification process.
This supplement is perhaps your next best alternative to dieting. Not only is it flavourful, it is also completely natural, which makes it safe for consumption in the long term.

Berry EyeHealth – Brighten Eyes and Improve Visual Acuity (S$45.95)

Berry EyeHealth
aims to improve visual acuity and relieve eye fatigue to keep your eyes
bright, sparkling and healthy. Infused with high concentrations of
Wolfberry, Bilberry and other natural ingredients such as Chrysanthemum,
Dendrobium stem and Prinsepia Seed, this supplement targets common
problems such as blurred vision, cataract and even symptoms of glaucoma
too.
I intend to purchase a box of Berry EyeHealth soon as taking good care
of my eyes is one of my top priorities given that I spend the bulk of my time sitting in front of the computer on a day to day
basis. I am also genetically predisposed to myopia and am practically
blind without my contact lenses or spectacles.

We also had the opportunity to try other products under TruLife. Perosonally, I think that the Bird’s Nest Drink would make a wonderful gift to my parents or friends who are more health conscious as TruLife offers a sugar-free version of this popular tonic too.

 After
the comprehensive presentation, the evening ended on a relaxing note
with a pampering massage of our choice at Willow Stream
Spa. I chose the Keep Calm with Collagen treatment, a specially
customized Face and Neck Massage that complemented TruLife’s Collagen
Cell Renew supplements perfectly.
TruLife’s supplements are
now available at Guardian and Nishino pharmacies, as well as OG and
Robinsons department stores.

Yun Nam Hair Care

September 15, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

While I may not be plagued by
hair loss issues, I do have a relatively sensitive scalp as I colour my hair frequently. It is also
somewhat oily and itchy. I knew I had to do something about my scalp,
hence I was looking forward to trying out a series of treatments
specially customized for me by Yun Nam Hair Care.

With a total of 27 outlets in both Singapore and Malaysia
since its establishment in 1984, Yun Nam Hair Care is an award-winning hair care brand and a recognized leader in
the haircare industry. By targeting various hair and scalp issues with customized
herbalogy treatments, Yun Nam Hair Care’s greatest achievement is its ability to restore
healthy hair and the confidence of their clients. Yun Nam Hair Care has also won several awards, including the prestigious Superbrands Awards from 2008 to 2010 and 2013.

Yun Nam Hair Care’s professional range of hair
care treatments effectively solves:

– Male Pattern Hair Loss
– Female Pattern Hair Loss
– Premature Hair Loss
– Post-natal Hair Loss

–
Hereditary Hair Loss

–
Ring-shaped Hair Loss

–
Mediterranean Hair Loss
–
Patch Baldness
– Grey
hair
–
Dandruff
– Oily
Scalp
–
Sensitive Scalp
–
Scalp Infection
– Hair
Loss due to Chronic Illnesses

To give you a better understanding of what to expect at a typical consultation and treatment session, I will be sharing more about Yun Nam Hair Care’s 3-Step Approach to guarantee results.
Step 1: Professional Scalp Scan and Analysis

I knew my first consultation with Yun Nam Hair Care was off to a good start when warm smiles greeted me at the reception counter upon arriving at the Tiong Bahru outlet. I was then guided to a consultation room where I was treated to tea and a light snack while I eagerly waited for my hair care specialist to attend to me.

As Yun Nam Hair Care believes in getting down to the root of your hair issues, I was asked to answer some questions about my lifestyle habits and health before treatment commenced. This helps the professional hair care specialists to gain a deeper understanding of how your hair condition came about and allows them to customize your treatment accordingly.

Agnes is my appointed hair care specialist and she will be taking care of all my treatments at Yun Nam Hair Care. She has a friendly and bubbly disposition which put me at ease immediately.
After answering a series of questions, Agnes conducted a scalp scan on different areas of my scalp, including the crown area, the back of my scalp, and the side of my scalp.
Here are the results:

Did you know that a healthy hair follicle usually has three or more strands of hair?
Each hair strand should also have a lifespan of 2-6 years, during which it will regenerate approximately 21-25 times. However, this is only applicable if your hair is in tip-top condition. In many cases, the lifespan of a hair strand and the number of times that it regenerates are shortened, no thanks to our lifestyle habits and environmental stress.
I was informed that I had more hair at the back of my scalp (top-left picture) but I didn’t have as much hair in the other areas of my scalp. Also, my scalp is pretty oily (the whitish residue are traces of oil) and while some of my hair follicles had at least 2-3 strands of hair, there were many hair follicles with just 1 strand of hair due to clogged pores. In a nutshell, what this means is that I have to improve my oily scalp condition before hair loss issues set in.
Agnes then gave me a detailed overview of Yun Nam Hair Care’s products, all of which are 100% herbal. The key ingredient is primarily Ginseng but other herbs such as Danggui and Lingzhi are widely used as well.

Depending on your hair condition, Yun Nam also offers oral supplements to hasten your recovery process.
Step 2: Customized Treatment Programme

To target my oily scalp and clogged pores, Agnes recommended that I should do a course of scalp cleansing treatments. Agnes explained that this step is critical as my hair and scalp will only be able to absorb nutrients to stimulate hair growth and increase hair strength after its state of health has been restored.

You can either choose to have your treatment done in the main hall or in a private room. I wanted to have some privacy, hence I opted to have my first treatment done in a private room.

I was first given a thorough hair wash using Yun Nam Hair Care’s in-house Ginseng shampoo. The Hair Cleansing Lotion and Hair Renewal Lotion are used hand-in-hand with the shampoo to restore my scalp’s PH balance. Yun Nam Hair Care advocates the use of cold water when washing your hair as this prevents irritation.

Next, the Dandruff Emulsion, a strong herbal concoction to melt off traces of dirt and residue was applied using a brush to effectively deep cleanse my scalp.

A hair steamer was used to open up my hair follicles and product absorption to allow deeper penetration of the products into the scalp.

Agnes then rubbed
away the residue with her fingers. I was told that this process helps
to lift all the dirt and grime from my scalp.

I had another round of shampoo followed by conditioner this time. I really enjoyed the light head massage that accompanied the hair wash as I could feel all the tension slipping away into oblivion.

So, what did I think of the treatment?

Amazingly, my hair felt much lighter after the treatment and as I ran my fingers through my hair, I could feel that my scalp was extremely clean. What I love about this treatment is that the effects last for more than two weeks. I wash my hair everyday and I noticed that hair fall was greatly reduced as well.
Agnes did a scalp scan immediately after my treatment and a before-and-after comparison for my reference. From the scan results below, you can see that my oil clogs have cleared up significantly. As this was only my first treatment after all, I was advised to undergo a series of 10 treatments for more permanent results.

Step 3: Home Care & Follow-up
Having a comprehensive set of home care products that is suitable for your hair and scalp condition plays an integral role in achieving the best results.
Here’s the set of products that Agnes recommended based on my scalp analysis. I have just started using these products and will share my thoughts on them in time to come, so do stay tuned to my subsequent posts for more details.
At Yun Nam Hair Care, the hair care specialists are trained to monitor each client’s scalp and hair health, and appropriate treatment adjustments are made along the way for optimal results.
To recap, here are some of the treatment benefits:
  • 100% herbal formula consisting of mainly Ginseng extracts
  • Fast penetration deep into the scalp
  • Stimulate New Hair Growth
  • Unclog and Repair Damaged Hair Follicles
  • Reduce and Control Hair Fall
  • Increase Hair Thickness and Strength
  • Strengthen Hair Roots

Julie’s Biscuit Factory Tour in Malacca

September 9, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

Julie’s Biscuits is the brainchild of Perfect Food Manufacturing and being a fan of Julie’s Biscuits (I love the Cheese and Peanut Butter varieties!) since young, I was especially excited when I received an invitation to visit their factory in Alor Gajah, a town near Malacca.
The Julie’s brand was introduced to the Malaysian market in 1982 and has since become a household name that needs no introduction. The biscuits at Perfect Food Manufacturing are all “baked with love”, a motto that all staff abide by and are immensely proud of.
I felt the love immediately upon arrival. We were received by their warm and friendly staff who promptly whisked us off to a cozy reception area where a sumptuous feast awaited.
The desserts that you see here are made using Julie’s biscuits. They’re pretty amazing, aren’t they?

This mission of Perfect Food Manufacturing and Julie’s Biscuits is:
“We bake with love
We care for the society
We love the earth”
True to their company mission, Mr Martin Ang, General Manager of Perfect Food Manufacturing, and his team went the extra mile to ensure that we were well taken care of every step of the way.
Mr Martin Ang, General Manager of Perfect Food Manufacturing
While we chomped down on the tasty Malacca dishes thoughtfully prepared by the team, our eyes were met with a dazzling array of Julie’s biscuits on display.

I have been eating Julie’s Biscuits since young and even my dad is a huge fan of their Peanut Butter biscuits.
To my surprise, I found out that Julie’s Biscuits’ range of products extend way beyond their popular Cheese and Peanut Butter biscuits to encompass assorted biscuits and even love letters.

To give us a better understanding of Perfect Food Manufacturing and Julie’s Biscuits, we were led to the conference room where Mr Martin Ang and his team gave us a thorough introduction.

I couldn’t help but get distracted by the tantalizing biscuits that lay before me and I wasn’t alone. In fact, all of us couldn’t resist snacking on the biscuits even when our lunch had barely settled. These biscuits are just irresistible.

To date, Julie’s Biscuits are exported to more than 50 countries around the world. What is the brand’s unique selling proposition? To me, its key differentiating factor lies is the company vision and philosophy.
To quote Mr Martin Ang, they will never sell a product that they themselves would not eat. I have always believed that integrity is of utmost importance in business, even more so for consumer businesses. This succinct statement from Mr Ang really drove home the point that Perfect Food Manufacturing conducts their business with conscience in order to benefit everyone. And for that, I am truly impressed.

In a bid to contribute back to society, Julie’s Biscuits also started “The Best of You” movement. This movement strives to inspire everyone to take a break from our hectic schedules to reflect on our lives and take stock of our accomplishments.
The term accomplishments here refer to the seemingly small and often unnoticed gestures or everyday actions that reflect the best of you. These accomplishments, no matter how small they may be, are worth celebrating.
Who is the best of you?
I think everyone in my life is the best of me. I am very heartened that my husband, family, friends, boss and colleagues have always been supportive and understanding towards me and the decisions that I make. While we may have our differences, the love, trust and camaraderie that we share is something very special and irreplaceable. I am truly blessed to have all of you in my life.
Every single one of you is the best of me.

After the heartwarming sharing session, it was time for us to head to the factory for some action. Don’t we all look like surgeons?

It was my first time in a biscuit factory and the experience was truly eye-opening. We could literally feel the heat from the baking process.

At the end of the tour, we were rewarded with piping hot peanut butter biscuits fresh from the oven. You could feel the warmth of the biscuits and smell the heavenly aroma of the peanut butter through the packaging. I immediately tore open the packet and savoured the most delicious peanut butter biscuits I’ve ever had in my life.

Thank you once again to Perfect Food Manufacturing and Julie’s Biscuits for their warmth and hospitality!

65daigou Taobao Haul

September 8, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
How do you like my outfit? Surprise, surprise, everything that you see above (except the bag and belt) are from my recent Taobao haul via 65daigou.
Do read on for a detailed review of these items in the later part of this post. For now, let’s talk about why you should use 65daigou. I know we can all buy directly from Taobao SEA these days, hence is there still a need for 65daigou and why do people use it?
Why should I use 65daigou?
Here are three reasons why:
1) User-friendly Interface
65daigou’s user interface is incredibly fuss-free and easy to understand. Plus, everything is in English! All you have to do is to copy and paste the URL link of the item that you wish to purchase on Taobao in the EZ Buy tab on top of 65daigou’s website.
Most of the item’s information will be readily captured by 65daigou. Typically, I only have to select my size and the location of the warehouse to be shipped to within China.
65daigou also ensures that your orders are placed correctly. For instance, I forgot to indicate the size of the top and skirt set that I wanted to purchase. Within the blink of an eye, I received a notification from 65daigou requesting for my preferred size.
2) Lower Shipping Costs
I
have heard so much about all the good deals on Taobao but purchasing
and shipping from Taobao is a challenge especially if you intend to
consolidate purchases from different sellers situated in various
parts of China. Shipping costs will go up as well because each seller
will provide you with a shipping quote.
Thankfully,
all these issues are easily resolved with 65daigou. 65daigou is able to
consolidate your purchases, so you’ll only have to pay once for
international shipping.
I wanted to receive my products within a week, hence I opted for Express Air shipment which cost S$15. I thought it was pretty reasonable for a total of 3 items including shoes.
3) Ease of Collection
There are 80 collection points, 8 MRT collection points and 3 warehouses where you can collect your parcels. No extra cost is involved. Of course, you could also have your parcel delivered to your doorstep at an affordable fee of S$5.
I love the hassle-free shopping experience via 65daigou and would highly recommend that you try it too. In fact, many of my close friends have already jumped on the bandwagon. 😉

Review of 65daigou Taobao Haul
I was looking for a poufy tulle skirt and this set deal popped up during my search for 纱裙 (tulle in Chinese).
I love set deals. I had originally
only wanted to purchase the tulle skirt which costs 188RMB, but I found a
deal that includes both the top and skirt at just 135RMB! That works out to
be S$28.13 for the entire set, which is really a steal given the
excellent workmanship.
Besides keeping a
lookout for set deals, you can also look out for sellers that offer
free domestic shipping to save on cost, which was exactly what I did.
Unfortunately, as much as I would like to provide the URL link for your reference, it is now completely sold out and nowhere to be found.
This gorgeous pair of heels which I fell in love with at first sight is still available. Just click on the photo below to be redirected to the URL link of the item. Priced at almost S$40, this pair of heels may not be as cheap as most of the other shoes that you can find on Taobao, but it is very well-made and most importantly, very comfortable.

Before I make a purchase, I always make it a point to check out the product reviews. In fact, it was the exceptional reviews on these heels that gave me the confidence to go ahead with this purchase.
Was I satisfied with my purchases?
The answer to this question is a resounding yes!
The knitted top is made of a slightly thicker, structured knit material which ensures that it doesn’t crease easily. The tulle skirt on the other hand comes with multiple layers and a satin lining that’s absolutely smooth and soft to the touch. If you were to purchase a top and skirt of similar quality at a brick and mortar retail store, I can foresee that it will easily burn a hole in your pocket.
I also adore my PVC heels from Taobao. Not only does the design of the heels remind me of  designer label Gianvito Rossi’s PVC pumps (as shown below), the lower height makes it a joy to walk in.
