KL Retreat (28Feb to 1st March)

March 22, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
As I mentioned in my earlier blog entry, I was away in KL (YES AGAIN!! sigh..) for a department retreat. Here’re the photos from my colleague haha. I’m so glad the video is not out yet. I sure do not want to see myself doing a catwalk in front of 50 people, including bosses!

Upon arrival, we played some team building games (yeah, my team lost and we each had to do individual forfeits!). After games and buffet dinner at Traders Hotel, we went shopping at Sungei Wang. I bought a white maxi dress for only S$15 and a frilly lacy top for S$10! Both items were from Metro. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the price tags hahaha.

We stopped by McDonalds after our fruitful shopping spree as two girlies were thirsty. Took the opportunity to snap a shot while they were busy quenching their thirst. Then, we began our long and arduous stroll back to Traders Hotel. We took a total of about an hour plus to arrive at our hotel.

When we were just about to reach the hotel, we stopped at a park in front of the Twin Towers to take photos. The Twin Towers looked so grand and magnificent at night, it was almost as if we were superimposed into the picture.

The Twin Towers, in its full glory.

We trooped over to Sky Bar at Traders’ Hotel, where our bosses and colleagues were indulging in alcohol and a game of taboo.

The sky bar has an open-air concept, complete with a picturesque view of KL’s night view. We should have a similar bar in Singapore!

Bored colleagues waiting to play the next round of Taboo….

while the rest of us decided to camwhore…

I realised my colleague took photos of me playing taboo..so ugly and unglam *shakes head*

They were trying real hard to guess what the word was. Haha..

Me again. I look like an under-aged kid stealing a sip of white wine.

We went to this quaint little Peranakan restaurant by the name of Top Hat on the 2nd night. By this time, the bosses had already adjourned to Mandarin Hotel for drinks. We, the young ones *chuckle*, were waiting anxiously for our cab to take us to Pavilion for more shopping and drinks. My roomie and I didn’t join in for drinks cos we were dead beat by then and we had a coach to catch at 9am the next morning.

I was expecting the trip to be pretty boring because this was the second time that I went to KL in 3 months! It turned out much better than expected, thanks to the great company, games and of course, shopping!

Happier Times

March 9, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments

I’ve been away, hence the lack of updates. In particular, my parent organization had a retreat in KL last weekend. It was such great fun bonding with colleagues and getting to know colleagues from our overseas offices. The only con was that my team came in last in one of the games, and we each had to do a forfeit individually!! I was made to catwalk, and it was recorded on video, much to my embarrassment. I hope the video never sees the light of day.

Work life seems to have taken a change for the better. My bosses (I have so many bosses that I can’t even count them with one hand) have decided to go with my suggestion of focusing on just 1 portfolio instead of juggling 3 portfolios simultaneously across 2 organizations (for 1 salary!!). I was showing signs of distress, which made them concerned about whether or not I would quit on them eventually if they continued with the latter arrangement. Whatever it is, I am still very grateful and appreciative of their efforts to make life easier for me.

*****************************************************
I spent a fruitful day with JW yesterday. Woke up in his arms and then popped by Corduroy & Finch for brunch. Got myself a meringue shell too. I love meringue although it can be sickeningly sweet sometimes.

We also viewed a showflat done up by one of the interior designers and brought my parents to view my new home. We’re planning to get our home done by August before we head overseas for our pre-wedding photoshoot. I never thought renovating my home could be so exciting, but it truly is! We have already brainstormed about the type of furniture we want, all the way down to wall decorations as well.

*****************************************************
After I took up this job, I developed a bad habit of going to my offices ( I have two offices) on Saturdays to either check e-mails or take my laptops (yea I have 2 laptops too) home. So off we went to my offices after viewing my home..haha..Spent about 15 mins at the first one and an hour at the second.

Thankfully, the second office is located right in the heart of the city, so we could head down to shop thereafter. Ironically, I hardly venture into the shops on a typical work day. I told JW that I am not interested in shopping anymore, but I ended up buying a new bag for myself at his persuasion. SIGH. I need to save money!!

On a separate note, I’ve taken a fancy to natural skincare (mainly certified organic products). I suspect my skin has become intolerant to all the toxic chemicals found in our usual skincare products, such as paraben and alcohol. My dad, a chemist by training, told me that natural products are the best for our skin. Although I have been using natural skincare for only about 2 weeks now, I notice a significant difference in skin clarity. My skin is also smoother, brighter and less congested than before. I’ll probably stick to natural skincare permanently.

Going off to prepare for a family outing now! Bye!

Sleepless Days

February 16, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
CNY dinner with JW’s family on Sunday (10th Feb) at Ah Yat Abalone Hunnan Restaurant (Turf City)

I was terribly exhausted by then as a result of all the visiting throughout the week.

His sis & me

My face looks so fat
I could barely keep my eyes open πŸ˜›

This week was worse as I had to stay up till about 1-2am to finish up some work. I was so tired by the end of the week that I spent the whole of Saturday in Slumberland. Oh, and I have work to be completed before Monday as well. How exciting.

Awakened Prematurely

February 8, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
The boy wore an orange coloured Nike shirt today. The shirt says “I am an addict.”

Given that the shade bears a striking resemblance to that of mandarin oranges (and it sure didn’t help that he held two mandarin oranges in his hand when he stepped into my house), I think a more appropriate phrase would be “I am an orange.”, so I kept making fun of him the entire day. Coincidentally, the word ‘orange’ is made up of the same number of letters as the word ‘addict’. Hahaha…I know you must think I’m really bored.

Visited the grandmas today. Never knew that it would be so mentally and physically draining just to listen to 3 people talk for an hour each.

Just when I thought I could have a good rest on my bed, my mum had to wake me just to ask if I was having dinner at home. Sigh. I can’t go back to sleep when I am awakened prematurely. That explains why I am blogging now.

I have other things to do, like work, but geez, work is a sure dampener to the festive spirit. I’m not touching it till Sunday!!

It’s a wonder how the boy is never awakened by anything…he has been sleeping for about 2+ to 3 hours now!! I threw a little tantrum, switched on the light, snatched the blanket from him, but yet he remains deep in slumber.

Sleeping probably ranks 2nd on his priority list, after rockclimbing. I, on the other hand, come in third place I think. *whinewhinewhine*.

BIG SIGH.

Shall try getting back to sleep now…ugh.

I love my bed.

Happy Chinese New Year!

February 7, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments

Happy Chinese New Year! May the year of the rat bring you good health, wealth and success!

I don’t have many relatives in Singapore (phew!), so we were done with visiting in just half a day. JW & I are visiting the grandmothers (all 4 of them? If not probably 3 of them) again tomorrow. πŸ™‚

The grandmothers really attest to the fact that women do have longer life expectancies as they have all outlived their husbands. I hope that doesn’t happen to me cos I want to spend my remaining days with JW!! πŸ™

My family and my paternal grandma

My skin’s really sensitive lately, so I’ve been going out without foundation/powder for the past month. I’ll probably stop using foundation for good because it clogs up my pores regardless of how thorough my cleansing routine is.

Me with concealer, blusher and fake eyelashes. Too lazy to curl my lashes and put on mascara.

My maternal grandma prefers me with my side fringe. She said my bangs are too thick, and she couldn’t recognize me just now!! Geez…I guess her age plays a part. She’s already 95 years old this year ;). No pics of her though, but I’ll probably take some photos tomorrow.

I still like my bangs. πŸ˜›

*************************************
As I was walking down to my maternal grandma’s apartment, I spotted a cosy area outside someone’s home. I love the unique horizontal grills and the way the money plant entwines around it. The little pots of plants, coupled with the wooden chair, create a very rustic ambience.

If you click on the photo to expand it to its full size, you’ll realize that the door mat has a very Victorian design. It’s remarkably exquisite and practical too, cos it’s made of rubber. I absolutely adore it!!!

If anyone knows where to get the mat, please let me know. I’ll be eternally grateful!! πŸ™‚

Keeping up

February 6, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
Getting married young, that’s what I thought JW & I were doing. Interestingly, this doesn’t seem to be the case, at least not where my social circle is concerned.

I have friends my age who have already given birth, or have just gotten pregnant! Haha..I can’t imagine myself looking after a baby at my age. Not when I still look and behave like a kid myself. πŸ˜›

Looking at JW and myself, I can’t help but think we will look like two kids getting married on our wedding day. Hahaha.

I often joke that our guests (especially distant relatives like perhaps his uncle’s grandnephew’s niece’s son’s daughter) would mistake us for the flower boy and flower girl. A little far-fetched I know, but you get the drift.

Anyhow, I like this new phase in life.

At least I have something else to occupy myself with besides work and shopping (ugh..now I sound like I have no life!!!).

Oh well. Soon, I can occupy myself with household chores too. Cleaning the toilet, mopping the floor, making breakfast in the morning. Wow, I am so excited at the thought of doing all these things! (Yeah right).

But that’s the price to pay for having quiet couple time and serenity in a house without parents. No, don’t get me wrong, I love my parents.

I am just looking forward to the independence and freedom that I’ll get. πŸ™‚

This is probably the last year that I will be staying in the same house as my parents.

Time flies.

New Gown and New Bangs

January 24, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
I am on 4 days mc..and today marks my last day of MC. One of my bosses said that I must be overworked. Indeed, I think so too! I have the flu bug, and my condition is further aggravated by a nasal allergy. Doc says I’m likely to be allergic to dust. I couldn’t agree more cos we have this colleague at work who has piles of junk in her cubicle. I swear she has more things than my entire house can contain! Nobody can see her when she’s sitting down.

To cheer myself up, and also to cheer you up, here’s my gown as promised. This is not the final gown as my designer intends to do a completely new one for me with added details like more glitter, lace etc. I love the veil! I am slightly disappointed though, because the glitter on the skirt doesn’t show up in pictures. I hope that adding more glitter or maybe some embroidery will do the trick.

Now I gotta think of a design for my evening gown too! Suggestions will be most appreciated :). I am totally clueless when it comes to wedding preparations.

I also had a fringe cut over the weekend…decided to go for bangs this time, but JW thinks I should grow it out before the wedding to match my gown. He thinks that I look better with my side-swept fringe, but I like my bangs!!

Alright..gonna rest now…

The Weekend

January 21, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
I think work is taking a toll on my health again. I am down with flu and thus decided to call in sick. It sure doesn’t help that I have to juggle 3 portfolios between 2 organizations as well as report to 3 bosses. I have double or triple of almost everything (2-3 official e-mail accounts, 2 laptops) except remuneration. I’ve already spoken to one of my bosses regarding the workload and how I really can’t cope with all the impending deadlines. Thankfully, he seems rather empathetic and is taking actions to attempt to resolve this issue.

I’ll try to persevere and hold on to my current job for as long as I possibly can. I love my colleagues, but I can’t say I really enjoy what I do. However, if things don’t work out eventually, I guess I would consider leaving and taking a few months’ break to recuperate as well as to see to my reno and wedding preparations.

The private bank offer I received previously still stands apparently, and I’m really honoured that my contact has asked me to join him time and again (about 3 times now?). I think he would be a good boss and I would definitely learn a lot from him, but I am still uncertain if that’s the career path that I would want to pursue. The monetary benefits will be quite substantial in the long run, and unlike the typical private banker, I will develop a very specialized skill set. But deep inside, I think I would much prefer to pursue my music diploma and try out teaching music. I wouldn’t want to run the risk of jeopardizing our friendship by telling him that I’ll join him and then quit shortly thereafter. There are just too many considerations at stake.

Anyhow, let’s take a look at what I did over the weekend:

Jay’s Concert

I didn’t enjoy the concert as much as the previous one, probably because I didn’t like most of the songs he sang (he didn’t sing dandelion’s promise!!) and he just seemed very tired. In my opinion, the costumes were quite distasteful too.

Bridal Gown Search

We went to scout for my wedding gown on Saturday, and I found the perfect one at Silhouette! Even my designer exclaimed that it makes me look like a fairy-tale princess. The gown has a very classic princess cut, with a white scalloped lace bodice and a full tulle skirt complete with just a hint of pink and glitter sprinkled all around. The veil is intricately embroidered with glitter thread and extends all the way down to my train to create a layered effect. I’ll post up photos of it the next time I go down to confirm the package. My designer has already reserved the gown for me. πŸ™‚

Wine appreciation at Wine-Bos

I think I was the only one who drank 5 whole glasses of wine because I refused to throw the remaining amount left in my glass into the bucket provided by the server. It’s such a waste to do that. JW on the other hand, surrendered after drinking about 1.5 glasses.

He can’t drink at all, which is quite worrying cos I can foresee him being dead drunk on the night of our banquet. Either that, or I’ll be the one who ends up dead drunk, although I think I can hold my liquor pretty well. Perhaps I should plead with my wedding guests to let him have it easy so that we can spend the night doing something more meaningful. HAHA.

Looking a little sleepy after 5 glasses. I edited this photo to create a nostalgic feel. I like the grainy effect.

Going off to rest now..bye!

Theodore Roosevelt

January 14, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
A friend from across the desert sent an inspirational quote which I could totally relate to, perhaps because I am indeed caught in such a situation..albeit the magnitude and depth of my experiences cannot possibly surpass that of great commander and leader, Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the U.S.

Most of us are more familiar with his cousin, Franklin Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, who is touted to be one of the most influential Presidents in the U.S History. Little do many of us know that Theodore Roosevelt was one of the few Presidents who actually fought in a war. In this case, it was the Spanish-American War.

We all get in touch with metaphors of war during our life time, so let him be my inspiration, and yours too. πŸ™‚

“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure,

Than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much,

Because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”

– Theodore Roosevelt –

Dandelion’s promise

January 8, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
I’m in love with Jay’s new song, Dandelion’s promise. Although it has been a long time since I played the piano, I was determined to play this song on my piano upon hearing it.

Hence, after listening to this track twice in a row, I attempted to play the entire song from memory on my piano. Surprisingly, I haven’t lost it haha. Thank God my musical abilities are still intact. I seek solace in music, and I still think that playing the piano is one of the most enjoyable things to do.

The only problem now is that my brother keeps bugging me to play dandelion’s promise on the piano, on repeat mode.
