Gatherings

January 6, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments

EOY JC Gathering – 29 Dec 07

It’s been a long time since so many of us met up. JW organized a pot-luck party, held in his condo’s function room. It was a fun-filled night, complete with endless chatter and laughter. Here’re the photos, courtesy of Jolene cos I only took some very random shots :P.

Within the blink of an eye, we are now 7 years older. Oh yea..and that also means I have just revealed my age. Haha. Here’s presenting the yummy Awfully Chocolate banana choc cake, courtesy of Elsa:

We also had don pies, shepherd pies, roast chicken (almost all eaten up by Marcus by the time everyone arrived), cherries, chicken wings, fishballs, chicken nuggets and otah. Wow, I think I have a photographic memory. πŸ˜€

On top of these goodies, Cherylene was supposed to bring fruit salad, but there was no sign of her nor her fruit salad throughout the entire night. Till now, JW has yet to resolve the mystery of the missing classmate and her fruit salad.

Marcus also performed a very lame magic trick, but I have to admit it was very entertaining. It was so hilarious we were in stitches. Check it out here:

rel=1&border=1″>

Marc hasn’t changed much after all these years. He’s still as lame and dirty-minded as ever hahaha. After our gathering, Jos told some of us that when she was chewing on some fishballs during dinner, Marc exclaimed excitedly that she had balls in her mouth, much to her disgust. Hahaha.

After dinner, we adjourned to Milk & Honey at Binjai Walk to watch Jos sing. Marc casually requested that she sing the RJC school song, and she did!! Never have we seen anyone sing the school song with such zeal and gusto!

New Year’s Eve – 31 Dec 07

This must have been the busiest new year’s eve I ever had. I was rushing from place to place that I didn’t even have time to take photos.

First, JW & I had a gathering with my ex-colleagues at Seow Yuin’s house, where we indulged in pizzas and all things sinful, such as my favourite dessert, Baked Alaska, all thanks to Hsing! SY’s hubby, a very jolly fellow, entertained us with home-made videos of their holiday trips in 2007.

Thereafter, I attended JW’s gathering with his rockclimbing friends. We played a board game called Saboteur. There are only two types of players in this game – the miners and the saboteurs, but nobody knows the identity of one another. The aim of the miners was to find the gold, whereas the saboteurs’ objective was to mislead and stop the miners.

Regardless of whether they are miners of saboteurs, they are all dwarfs. Silly JW wasn’t aware of this, and he thought he was a saboteur when he was actually a miner! Hahaha so you could imagine, he helped the saboteurs win the game when he was actually a miner. My bf is such a joker man. Hahaha.

After the game, we attended a funeral of a climber’s dad. Her dad passed away due to cancer of the blood vessels, a very rare type of cancer. It was very unexpected as he only felt unwell 2 months ago, and the doctors couldn’t find out the true cause of his ailments till recently.

Such is the fragility of life. So much can change in so little time. Incidents like this always make me ponder about the transience of life, which in turn emphasizes the importance of living life to the fullest, a life filled with love and meaning, not one that is consumed by work and materialism.

Julie’s back in Singapore! – 5 Jan 08

Julie came back to Singapore to attend a friend’s wedding, so we all took the opportunity to meet up with her. The thoughtful girl suggested that we meet up at Al Azhar, because most of us stay in the west. She, on the other hand, stays in Serangoon!! We all had a great time sharing gossip about EOY.

KL Trip 21-25 Dec

December 30, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
It was a climbing trip for JW and his friends, but I decided to tag along with my bro. As a non-climber, I spent most of my time idling around, camwhoring and eating. We also caught two movies – I am Legend and National Treasure.

Surprisingly, I didn’t shop much. I just couldn’t find anything to buy!! Let’s see now… I bought a pair of Roxy slippers, a ring from Diva, 2 tops from Mango sale, 2 hairclips, 2 pairs of wide-legged pants, 2 lipglosses and 1 lipstick from The Face Shop (slightly cheaper in Msia!!). Erm, now it sounds like I bought a lot of goodies.. =X

I climbed a little too. I completed 3 routes and everyone said that I am a natural ok…don’t play play Hahaha. But given my laziness and lack of motivation to exercise, I doubt I’ll actually pursue climbing as an interest.

If anything, I’m more likely to pursue sleeping as an interest. Haha. Hey, that’s something I can do with JW too, cos both of us enjoy sleeping! πŸ˜›

On the way to KL, accompanied by the brother and a Rubix cube. My brother looks quite spastic here. He looks as if he’s pleading with the customs officer not to confiscate his rubix cube.
Lunch at A&Ws. The hotdog was a disappointment though. Orange Julius is much better.
At Brisdale Hotel with the two men.
Dinner at Nandos. It was a rather carnivorous meal. Lots of meat, but no complaints from me.
Liang cha treat from Jess
At Camp 5 – One Utama. Check out the cute heart-shaped depression in the wall. The environment’s pretty nice, but I absolutely detest the marshals there.

JW paid for me to stay in the gym the entire day, but this stupid shortie of a marshal came over to tell me that I have to leave if I’m not climbing (I guess I looked like I wasn’t dressed for climbing that particular day :P). He thought I was a non-paying guest and was very appalled when he found out that I paid just to hang out at the gym. I told him that I have too much money to spare and asked him if he had a problem with that. So bitchy right..but whatever man. Shortie sounded like he was giving me orders. So much for customer service.

The cobra king was in town!!! Don’t JW’s ropes resemble snakes?

Two Spidermans on the wall.

Oh and that’s me..posing with the tiles. I exemplify the true qualities of a Singapore Idle.

Group shot. I think this was taken on the 3rd day, the day when I finally decided to don sportswear to shut the marshals up. See..it’s more difficult to spot me now right? πŸ˜› This was also the day that I completed 2 routes. Haha.

Lunch at some Asian restaurant…can’t remember the name now. The hor fun was mouth-watering.

We had a junk gift exchange on Christmas Eve!! JW got an unidentified gift from my didi..even my didi didn’t know what it was because this gift was wrapped at least 5 years ago by my mum. Didi brought it along for the trip cos JW told him about the gift exchange. We burst into peals of laughter once JW teared open the wrapper to reveal the present. The present was a box of Drapolene Cream. Drapolene Cream is commonly used for babies with nappy rash. Hahaha. So you could imagine..we were engulfed in laughter for the next 5-10 minutes before JW finally plucked up his courage to open the box.

To his utmost relief, the box contained a colourful paperweight, and not nappy rash cream.

My present to Shumei was a cute cat stuffed toy. The cat was holding on to a dead fish. The dead fish refers to Yap. Hahaha.

So as to save Yap from any embarrassment, I shall not reveal why he is a dead fish. πŸ˜›
Jess gave didi a nice muji photo album
JW gave Ruixuan a NDP chalkbag and a swiss army knife. I got 3 bottles of bodyshop shower foam from Ruix — perfect for overseas travel!

I made JW use a facial mask. Don’t ask me why he looks like Hannibal. I think it’s just him. Hahaha.

Pretty christmas decor at Mid-Valley Shopping Centre

Cute little hamsters posing for the camera

We stopped by Malacca on the way back to Singapore. The food was finger-licking good!!

Chicken rice balls. The rice balls were not as tasty as the chicken rice, but the meat was delectable.

Savouring authentic chendol. I’m still salivating at the thought of it.

Miscellaneous food that we had for breakfast at One Utama. I love the hot chocolate with marshmallows!! I’m still craving for the pancakes at paddingtons. πŸ˜›

Geez, I’m salivating at the sight of all these photos. Aren’t you too?!!!

Fret not, for more good food will be coming your way this New Year’s Eve!!! Yay!! πŸ˜€

Had a JC gathering yesterday with lots of good food and even better company! Didn’t take many photos though, so I’m eagerly awaiting Jo’s photos and videos. πŸ˜‰

In the meanwhile, here’s wishing everyone a Happy New Year!!! May all your wishes come true in 2008!

I climbed in KL

December 26, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments

Yes, I climbed!! Haha. Now, isn’t that amazing?

Didn’t take many pics to mark the joyous occasion…well, it was joyous for JW I’m sure haha.

Will somebody be so kind as to send me photos??

Somebody..anybody!!

Sensitive Skin & Sensibility

December 16, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
My skin absolutely abhors travelling. Every time I travel to countries with a drier climate, my skin goes on an aggressive protest by turning all red and bumpy.

The right side of my cheek is very sensitive now, and I’m using Avene’s soothing mask to calm it down, in the hope that it’ll recover within a week. πŸ™

I’ll be travelling to Malaysia in a couple of days’ time with my bro, JW and his friends. They’re going there to rockclimb, while I shop and do my girly stuff. I’m too lazy to exercise, much less climb.

I’m not particularly crazy about shopping there, so I guess I’ll go for manicures/pedicures and maybe a relaxing spa session if it’s not too pricey. If not, I’ll probably just laze around there :P. I could do with some hair treatment too.

I fell in love yesterday. With Chanel. But once again, I couldn’t bear to part with my money. Between the 2 Cs, Cash and Chanel, I’ll always choose the former, but I can’t deny that my determination wavered yesterday when I tried on the gorgeous bag.

Even JW thinks it suits me very well, given my “atas” image and what-not. Haha.
I prefer the one in beige though (the pic shows the white one), simply because I read that if the white ever gets stained, the stains are unlikely to be removable and the bag’s value will certainly dip. Also, beige is more versatile as it goes well with all colours. I was clad in all black yesterday, and the beige didn’t look one bit out of place.
Does anyone know if Chanel is cheaper in Malaysia?? πŸ˜›

Nana’s long-awaited wedding photos :D

December 11, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
Nana’s professionally taken wedding photos are finally out! I must reiterate that among all the weddings that took place this year, Nana’s one is my favourite! πŸ˜€

I’ve known Nana since primary school, and it’s a miracle how we ended up working at the same organisation last year. Although we have since left for greener pastures (greener for her I think, as she can now embark on her journey to “taitai” hood!! haha), we managed to keep in touch all this while.

I wish I could have a cosy and personal wedding dinner, just like hers, but I doubt it’ll ever materialize.

We’ll be having all our distant relatives at the dinner..eeks!!! I pray none of them ever stumbles across my blog *keeps fingers crossed*. Seriously, what’s the point of having 50-60 tables when you don’t recognise 60% of the faces in the crowd? Sigh. We can’t complain since we aren’t footing the bill (psst…I’m immensely grateful for that!). πŸ˜‰

At Nana’s solemnization πŸ™‚
JW & I were the emcees. I can’t help but notice how sincere he looked while delivering the oration. Hahaha. I looked like I was trying hard to memorize the entire speech. πŸ˜›

Us with the glowing bride
Presenting…the blissfully married couple!
Candid shot of us trying to wrestle our way out of receiving the couple’s red packet. πŸ˜› No prizes for guessing who won eventually.
Ex-colleaguesCheck out the gorgeous bride!
Not forgetting her fab figure haha πŸ˜›
Other candid shots:

I look quite silly here.
The sneaky photographer stole shots of JW & I…but I think they’re very well-taken, so he’s forgiven πŸ˜›

My birthday and other random stuff

December 9, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments

Let’s start with the random stuff:

1) Attended Jw’s distant cousin’s wedding@ Marina Mandarin

It was a little strange because even JW had never met this cousin before. What was even stranger was that JW asked his cousin (after being introduced to each other) if he was the groom. Hahaha. Oh well…

2) Went to Beijing for a private banking conference

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Beijing, although I was only there for 3 days. The icy wintry air, dazzling christmas lights and familiar city sights brought back such wonderful memories of this lovely city. I can’t wait to go back there again. A pity I had to take the red eye flight back to attend another meeting the very next day. πŸ™

This time around, I stayed at The Regent. Unlike some people who fear staying in a hotel room all by themselves, I love staying by myself when I am overseas. Thankfully, in my organisation, we all get our own rooms when we travel overseas.

I embrace freedom, and having everything all to myself. πŸ˜›

Check out the bathroom’s open concept. Perfect for the exhibitionists. The blinds are automated, so if you have guests over, you can shut the blinds.

I love the wash basin. oh yea, and that’s me in the reflection.
The cosy bed. This is actually my boss’s bed cos I had already checked out by then. πŸ˜›

3) The highlight of this post – My birthday!!

I celebrated my birthday yesterday at Au Jardin @ Botanical Gardens. The ambience, attentive service and JW’s company left me with a warm fuzzy feeling. πŸ™‚

I had the 8-course dinner set while JW took the 4-course. No photos of the food though. Both JW & I agreed that while dining in such an ‘atas’ restaurant was an interesting experience, we are certainly no connoisseurs when it comes to food. We much prefer the simple pleasures in life, such as char siew rice, duck rice, salted duck soup and mango sago dessert Hahaha.

If I really had to pick an upmarket restaurant to dine in, I would still choose The Cliff over Au Jardin. Nonetheless, I cannot deny that the service at Au Jardin is impeccable. The waiters made sure that I was treated like a princess, and all of them wished me happy birthday at one point or another during the dinner.

Stealing a shot of my beloved bf

I had a complimentary mini birthday cake too! πŸ˜€

Trying to act demure but I think I look rather contrived haha. The silky purple top was a birthday gift to myself, which I got from Vera Moda, a European label that can be found in major cities around the world, including Beijing. Their clothes fit me to a T! Much to my disappointment, it’s not found locally.

Blowing the candle but I forgot to make a wish!! πŸ™
Us enjoying a cuppa after the meal

We decided to catch a midnight movie after that. I wanted to watch Enchanted, but the seats were so lousy that we eventually decided on Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, which starred acting veterans Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman.

The movie started off well, but the ending felt incomplete. We both felt that the plot lacked substantiation and was seriously lacking in many areas.

Camwhoring in the car while we were stuck in the Orchard Road jam.

I made JW take photos of me with the christmas lights! It’s rare to see orchard road this quiet!

Last but not least, how could I forget the gifts of love from JW & my parents?? My parents & bro got me some jewellery :). JW got me a CK watch and a Coach Bag. I’m not a big fan of Coach, but this bag really caught our eye. It looks much better in real life as it has a metallic sheen that spells chic yet festive. πŸ˜€

I told JW that he should stop getting branded stuff for me because everyone thinks I am ATAS now even when all my branded goods are not bought by me!! He insists he can’t help it haha..silly boy.

Although I’m not religious, I can’t help but think that he is God’s gift to me. I seriously don’t know what I did to deserve someone like him, someone who loves me, who cheers me up and makes me laugh. He’s my confidante and my best friend, someone whom I look forward to spending the rest of my life with.

Indeed, blessed are the loved. *muaks* πŸ™‚

Thanks to all my lovely friends who wished me happy birthday too!!

Nana’s Wedding :D

November 25, 2007 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

My blog is fast becoming a wedding blog.

I attended Nana’s wedding last Friday, where JW & I had the honour to be the emcees for the night. Haha. JW spoke English while I spoke Mandarin.

It has been a while since I last spoke formal Mandarin. Thankfully, I was still rather fluent although we did not rehearse the script at all (right, Nana?? HAHA).

JW & I literally rushed down from work at 615pm, only to reach Raffles Hotel at 645pm. The CBD jam was horrendous and the cars were travelling at snail’s pace. I hurriedly changed out of my office attire at Raffles Hotel before proceeding to the ballroom at 7pm. Fortunately, we arrived in the nick of time, if not I think Nana would have lapsed into a state of panic hahaha.

Nana’s wedding was a very warm and cosy affair. She had about 10 tables in the Casuarina Suite and there was a lot of mingling and photo-taking with the bride and groom, very unlike the usual wedding banquets, where the wedding couple darts from one table to another with hardly any interaction due to time constraints.

The ballroom was illuminated by glowing chandeliers and tastefully embellished with textured ornate draperies and plush seats, adding grandeur and elegance to the occasion. As a guest, I was very happy to be able to share the ceremonial bliss of my lovely friends. Needless to say, the bride looked gorgeous in her stunning Victorian-inspired gown, complete with intricate embroidery and beading details. On the other hand, the groom, beaming with pride (having won the heart of his fair maiden :P), wore a radiant smile on his face throughout the evening. It was one of the loveliest wedding ceremonies I have attended so far, and I thoroughly enjoyed basking in the glow of the wedding couple.

Nana, I look forward to receiving the photos from you!!! πŸ˜€ I want to post here can? πŸ˜› I don’t dare to post the one that we took together using my camera because you insisted it was very ugly although I swear it’s not πŸ˜‰

Just to share some photos that I took during the banquet:

Casuarina Suite

JW & I

Me with some ex-colleagues πŸ™‚
Chilling out along the corridors
My outfit for that day. It’s not as shiny as it looks in the photo. πŸ˜›

JW & I hopped over to Barfly at Clarke Quay after the ceremony as the night was still young. Can’t remember what he was drinking, but I had Aphrodisiac.

We’ve heard many raves about Barfly, but we both thought that it was just above average. Perhaps we should try out the food dishes next time. πŸ™‚

I really liked the chandeliers at Barfly though.
Hm well actually, I just have a penchant for chandeliers. I like all sorts of chandeliers hahaha.
I’m looking forward to receiving Nana’s wedding photos soon! πŸ˜€

*****************************

On a separate note, I have been told by many recently (those who don’t know me very well) that I look very “atas” (slang for people who live the high life). Haha I think it’s partly due to my grooming, my curry puff hairstyle and maybe my “come-save-me” look?!

I don’t always go for the finest things in life and as some of you may know, I do not have very deep financial resources to tap into. Besides, I am definitely much friendlier than your other so-called “atas” people, some of whom could be very arrogant. I’m not as “princessy” as I look lah pls, and neither am I very prim and proper. πŸ˜›
Don’t believe? Ask JW Hahaha. He claims I am very fierce, violent and that I behave like a boy. πŸ™

Looks can be deceiving!! πŸ˜‰

Celebrations

Baby Chloe’s First Birthday

I attended baby Chloe’s first birthday celebration recently. It’s amazing how kids seem to grow up so rapidly. The last time I saw this little princess, she was just a little bigger than the length of my forearm. Within the blink of an eye, she is now walking and dancing to the infectious beats of pop music.

Her mum, Reyna, is one of my good friends. Until now, I still can’t quite believe she’s a mum. Haha!! She ‘s still so youthful and slim. Ah..the perks of being a young mum. πŸ™‚

I can’t imagine ever being pregnant though. The thought of giving birth scares the daylights out of me, not to mention the aftermath of pregnancy, which involves weight gain, stretch marks, sleepless nights.

Come to think of it..the young mums I know don’t seem to have these problems actually. If anything, their weight gain seems to go to their bust!! πŸ˜‰

Hmm..okay..maybe I’ll think about giving birth within these couple of years. Not until after marriage of course.

Huifen’s Wedding

There’ve been so many wedding dinners and receptions. I’m starting to have a hard time keeping count and remembering the dates.

Huifen is a friend I got to know through my translation course. It has been 2 years since we graduated from the course, but many of us remain close friends to date. Sigh..I miss those times!! Every time we meet up, we can’t help but reminisce about the good old days in Beijing. I guess the Beijing leg of the course really brought us closer together. We had so much fun despite the grueling classes.

We did our assignments together, cooked our meals together, went out to play together and went to school together. They even celebrated my birthday with me!

All the people you see in the photos that follow are probably the most effectively bilingual people I know in the whole of Singapore (minus me..I’m like half past six, if you know what I mean :P).

Lim Tim, Ash, Me & Karen

Yoke Hui, Tung San, Bee Furn & Soh Din

Ash & me are telepathic! We were dressed in the same colour scheme. We were room mates in Beijing. That explains the chemistry. πŸ˜‰

During the wedding dinner last night, Karen/Tung San recalled a particularly memorable incident that happened in Beijing.

Late one night while we were doing our assignments in Yoke Hui’s room, bare-faced and clad in our dowdy pyjamas, we got bored and decided to play with my make-up. I literally brought over my entire stash of cosmetics (ya i’m like the vainest of them all) to her room, where we unleashed the prowess of our make-up skills. Karen tried her hand at blending bright clashing shades on her eyelids. Sounds strange I know, but we all agreed the look suited her very much!

I did smoky eyes for Yoke Hui, which turned out really well in my opinion. However, when I tried it on Tung San, somehow she turned out looking like a panda hahaha. Thankfully, the Beijing zoo keepers were fast asleep at that unearthly hour, if not our poor Tung San would probably never have made her way back to the sunny island of Singapore! For all we know, Tung Tung could have become the next big thing in the Beijing Zoo *chuckles*.

We all had such great fun doodling on each other’s faces till the wee hours of the morning that we forgot to take photos. But evidently, the fond memories that remain etched in our minds never fail to bring smiles, laughter and endless chatter to the table. πŸ™‚

I love these people!!

November

November 12, 2007 by Regina Chow No Comments
JW & I celebrated his birthday at Morton’s recently. I booked a table there and told them that I was celebrating my bf’s birthday. To my surprise, not only did they tell me that he would be served a warm chocolate cake (on the house!!), they also decorated the table, gave us a nicely framed snapshot of ourselves, and sang JW a birthday song!!

The servers were quite the jesters, and their service was immaculate. The steak, though rather tasty, paled in comparison to the steak we had at The Cliff@Sentosa (which also had a better ambience even though the price is about the same).

I also couldn’t help but notice that the servings at Morton’s were large enough to feed an entire village in Ethiopia.

Haha just check out the generous steak portion and the gigantic asparagus!! It was a waste because I couldn’t finish eating my portion. I was quite tired after a hard day’s work too and I looked like a wreck next to my ever so youthful bf haha.

Well…that aside, both of us agreed that the experience and service were definitely worth it. πŸ™‚

I took Friday off and had a super long weekend, during which I had very little sleep and ended up sick. That explains why I am blogging today. I am at home. πŸ˜›

Some narcissistic shots of myself – I have not done this in quite a while cos I could never quite afford the time. Took these while JW was catching a wink on my sofa yesterday haha.

I slept barely 5 hours the night before, but I really like my new T-shirt. It has a skull tie printed on it.
Going off to shower and do some work!!! Oh wait..need to see the doc first..SIGH.

These are the friends I made when I was 16 going on 17 and 17 going on 18.

Not this..this is the steak I had when we went to Sunset Way. Food’s so-so and the place is nearly pitch dark.
These are the friends I made when I was 16 going on 17 and 17 going on 18. Stoning at Wala’s.

This photo was taken by someone with shaky hands (who is no other than my bf)
Josephine just keeps looking better and better!!

The guy who was the first on ICQ (ya that’s how old I am haha) to find out that JW & I got together.And..finally..how could I miss out Jo? The other avid blogger. She writes much more than I do though. I’m just simply too lazy to move my fingers.Sorry..am extremely tired to blog Hahaha…I am currently holding on to 3 portfolios. Somebody, save me!!
