A Walk Down Memory Lane

May 31, 2012 by Regina Chow 3 Comments
Just wanted to share another set of photos taken by KC of Tiny Dot Photography. The first shot is my favourite because unlike the usual profile shots, I like how the strands of flyaway hair broke loose and took on a life of their own, adding movement and interest to the photo.

The perfection of imperfection, that’s what it is.

As we strolled along the back alleys, we came across a distinctive stand-alone circular building which is so rare, you probably wouldn’t find it anywhere else on the very cosmopolitan city state of Singapore these days. I particularly like the retro feel of the photos, and this cute little blue van below is quite possibly the perfect prop for prewedding shoots!

The last two shots that I’m sharing with you are a little different from my usual photos. I guess they’re more expressive in a melancholic and contemplative way. I personally like how these photos turned out. How about you?

Autumn Chills

May 30, 2012 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
It’s autumn over here and I’m glad I can finally put all my fluffy trench coats and jackets to good use. The weather is much cooler than I expected, especially indoors because heaters aren’t provided in the university apartments. We’ve one that’s left behind by the previous tenant, but I reckon it emits less heat than a hot water bottle. :S

Trench coat from Hong Kong
Lace stockings from Topshop
Bow Heels from Dip Drops
Idylle Speedy Bag from Louis Vuitton
Hairband (looks like a hat isn’t it?) from Talisman, FEP

I’ve lived in Beijing in winter during subzero conditions, but this is the first time I actually feel cold indoors! Time for us to get a REAL heater soon….

Vintage 60s and Tinydot Photography

May 24, 2012 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

I did a fashion photoshoot with KC from Tinydot Photography last Sunday at Tiong Bahru. KC was my prewedding photographer. He did a magnificent job for our Macau shoot and I love his photos. It was definitely an honour to be able to work with such a talented photographer!

Although KC specializes in wedding photography, he was game to try something new this time and so was I. πŸ˜‰

The theme for the photoshoot was vintage 60s, which is pretty much my usual style of dressing. I did the make-up, styling and modelling while KC worked his magic with two film cameras. This is the first set of photos that were taken. No editing was done.

Mint lace top from H&M
Detachable pearl collar from Hong Kong
Pink floral tulle skirt from FEP
Nude Pumps from Zara
Candy striped socks from Topshop

I can’t begin to tell you how much I adore Tiong Bahru. I must have said it several times, but this quaint little neighbourhood has such a charming, old world charm and oodles of character.

I like the way the images are framed as well as how light is used to add that soft glow and old-school vibe to the photos.

I’ll be sharing more photos in time to come, so keep checking back!

Celebrating Mum’s Birthday at Ivins

May 15, 2012 by Regina Chow No Comments

I must have said it a thousand times at least, but Ivins is one of my family’s favourite restaurants. The food is always tasty and flavourful, which explains why the bulk of our family gatherings tend to take place here. In fact, we celebrated my mum’s birthday here some time back in April as my family loves the peranakan dishes.

Some of the dishes that really tickle my tastebuds include ayam tempra, ayam goreng, sambal kang kong, itek tim (salted vegetables and duck soup) and chai pok egg.

Here’s my outfit for the day. I looked pretty tired as I had just recovered from a bout of flu when this picture was taken.

Bangkok top
Zara pastel floral jeans
Louis Vuitton Idylle Speedy in Sepia
Alannah Hill floral clip

This week is a busy week for me as I’m trying as much as I can to catch up with family and friends before I take off again next Saturday. It doesn’t help that I just received news that my grandmother has been warded. I spent 4 hours chatting with her at the hospital yesterday because she was feeling lonely and helpless. πŸ™ I can only hope that things will take a change for the better soon and that she’ll have a speedy recovery. Please keep her in your prayers too.

Queen Elizabeth II Cup

May 13, 2012 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

As you would have read in my previous post, I was invited to the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at the Singapore Turf Club recently.

As with most races, especially overseas ones, attendees usually turn up dressed to the nines, topped with an elaborate headpiece or glamorous hat. It was such great fun catching up with Jessie from the Turf Club and of course Karen (whom I meet all the time) and Eunice. πŸ˜‰ Do you like our hats?

Here’s a close-up of my hat.:)

The event was held at the Marquee, where guests were treated to a sumptuous buffet fare and colourful cocktails.
Amidst food, flowing conversations and the races, new friendships were forged too. I was acquainted with Shun Jian, who owns personal development blog RichGrad.com. He only appeared in one group photo, because this nice, gentlemanly guy was helping me to take photos with everyone else. πŸ˜‰

I also caught up briefly with Sebastian and Xing, Karen’s friends whom I first met at a party at Lucky 13!

I was so glad to meet Irene, who blogs at Rene Memory List too. We first met at the Longines Singapore Gold Cup in November 2011. She’s such a sweet and friendly lady, you’ll feel completely at ease around her.

I invited my friend Stacie to the event too, and we had such a ball of a time. You know how girls are..all we do is chat non-stop!

With Karen, Benjamin of Chocolate Pistol fame and his friend. These two guys are some of the most stylish men I’ve seen around!

I was fortunate to be shortlisted for the Hats on Track Competition, where guests could vote for their favourite hat of the evening. From the pictures, you can see that I was surrounded by a bevy of tall Caucasian beauties. While I was proud to be one of the only two Asians in the competition, I couldn’t help but feel really short next to the towering ladies around me!

They are pretty gorgeous, aren’t they?

In case you were wondering, no, I didn’t win the competition. There were just so many immaculate ladies with outstandingly beautiful hats to choose from!

We also had the opportunity to take a tour around the turf club. That was when we witnessed the jockeys weighing themselves right after the race. They are so light, even with all the equipment! On a completely random note, JW and I always joke that he should become a jockey because he’s so incredibly light. πŸ˜›

We visited the Champage Room, which is where the prize-giving ceremony usually takes place. Check out the row of champagne bottles in small, medium and extra large sizes. Haha, this room certainly isn’t called the Champage Room for nothing.

Group shot with all the bloggers and guests at our two tables.

Finally, here’s my outfit for the evening. The dress was a Valentine’s gift from JW a while back. This alluring beauty hails from Dustbunny Vintage. I’ve been patronizing Pia’s shop since years ago and I adore her exclusive selection of unique cocktail dresses.

For those of you who are interested in horses, racing, and horse-racing, you may want to head down to Nex, B2 Level today. The Singapore Racing Festival is now on and you’ll get to meet the beautiful Turf Belles, Singapore Turf Club’s very own ambassadors!

Radio DJ Lin Pei Fen will also be there at the roadshow, which takes place from 11am to 9pm today. Head on down if you’re free!

ClubCouture Leah Printed Dress in Navy

May 12, 2012 by Regina Chow No Comments

I just received this gorgeous Leah Printed Dress from ClubCouture recently. I really love the adorable deer prints, which adds interest to this casual piece.

I also like the slightly asymmetrical hem of the skirt, which is absolutely beautiful when it is caught in the breeze. It’s perfect for afternoon picnics or high-tea with your friends. If you want to dress it up, put on a pair of sexy stilettos and it’ll be instantly transformed!

Shopping Haul: Nude Heels

May 2, 2012 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
We all know that heels elongate our legs but nude heels…ah they’re even better at doing that. The illusion that our legs are longer is created by blurring the line between the shoes and the legs, and that’s exactly what nude heels do.

I’ve been in search of a comfy pair of nude pumps since forever, and I was about to purchase a pair of Louboutins until I came across a more pocket-friendly substitute from Zara (price: S$169), which happened to be pretty comfortable too. I thought this was a better idea since Loubies tend to be rather uncomfortable most of the time. I do like the signature red soles of Loubies though.  Women are such irrational creatures, always falling prey to pretty things.

And, that is the reason why women fall prey to not just one pair of nude heels, but two. Well, yes, I’m talking about myself, if you haven’t already realized. Karen and I chanced upon this gorgeous bow nude heels from Dip Drops (price: $99) and we both decided that we had to get this charming beauty. It’s a semi-casual pair which can be worn with jappy feminine dresses as well as preppy chic outfits.
If you’re interested in my shopping hauls, I may consider doing a weekly or biweekly post to showcase some of my favourite buys of the month. πŸ˜‰ Let me know!

Featured: Style Spotting by Clozette at Desti Saint Collection Launch

April 24, 2012 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

Karen invited Eunice and I to the Desti Saint Bag Collection Launch organized by Faz last week. We were treated to a buffet of gorgeous bags, which I will share more about in a separate post. We were also featured on Clozette, a wonderful online platform where you can share your style, organize your online wardrobe, socialize with like-minded Clozette beauties and shop for eclectic fashion finds all around the globe! Thanks Clozette!
I wore a BCBG silk lace dress, paired with pale pink peep-toe Ferragamos, Hermes H bangle. πŸ™‚

Here’s Karen’s outfit. I love her Olive (yes, Popeye’s girlfriend) cartoon print dress and its chirpy turquoise colour. Super love her Celine snake skin bag too!

Finally, here’s Eunice’s outfit. Eunice was wearing one of her hand-made necklaces and I couldn’t stop gushing about how beautiful it was! For more exclusive jewellery lovingly handcrafted by Eunice, you may want to check out her site at EuniqYou.

ClubCouture: Pleated Skirts

April 10, 2012 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

The moment I saw this black pleated skirt on ClubCouture, I knew I had to get it, simply because it is so difficult to find black pleated skirts with good workmanship at reasonable prices.

Quality pleated skirts are usually slightly heavy with evenly distributed pleats of uniform thickness. Unlike the usual cheap flimsy elastic band around the waist, this skirt also comes with a thick, sturdy elastic band which wouldn’t lose its shape over time. Now you know why this well-made baby is one of my wardrobe staples!

In this set of photos, I wore it slightly high-waisted by holding it up with a belt. You can wear it as it is on your waist for a more formal corporate look too. Killing two birds with one stone has never been easier. πŸ˜‰

Pleated skirt from ClubCouture
Nude pumps from Ferragamo
Gold socks from Asos.com
Top from Far East Plaza
Bag from Drip Drops

ClubCouture is now having an Easter sale!
Just key in BUNNY100 upon checkout for 15% off.
Time to go shopping ladies!

Preppy Polka Dots

April 5, 2012 by Regina Chow No Comments

The title says it all. Small polka dots juxtaposed against big polka dots sounds like overkill but I’m glad the combination turned out fine.

I picked them out randomly when I was in a hurry to get out of the house as I was running late for an appointment. I know this sounds rather dumb but it was a momentous occasion for me as it was my first time driving in a long time and I decided to throw myself at the deepest end of the pool by heading to the heart of the city, Orchard Road, on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Traffic was horrendous, to say the least, but I made it to Paragon safely and convinced (actually I pleaded with him) the valet to park my car after he turned away the other 3-4 cars in front of me (valet was supposedly full). πŸ˜› You can’t imagine how grateful I was!

Anyway, back to the outfit. LOL. The cardigan was a bargain I snagged from City Plaza. It’s made of relatively thick knit material. I especially love the scallop polka dot collar which screams vintage preppy.

The polka dot skorts were from Bangkok. I love wearing swing skirts but when the wind blows, uh oh…that’s it. Skorts are the panacea to the problem! Even when it flies up when the wind blows, the attached shorts will ensure that there wouldn’t be any upskirt moments. How convenient!
