Singapore Fashion Week OOTD: White on White

May 21, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

May has been a busy month for me but by some stroke of luck, I managed to make it down for one of the shows at Singapore Fashion Week. Here’s what I wore to the Star Creation: The Winners’ Collection fashion show.
The white-on-white trend seems to be here to stay, and it is easy to see why. Clean, sharp and chic, standing out from the crowd with an all white ensemble is a breeze. It also provides the perfect canvas for accessorizing, but if you prefer to keep things simple, go for the minimalist look with just a touch of accessories. If you think the outfit is too white for you, you can always jazz it up with a pop of colour, like I did with my bag and strappy gold heels.
Dress from Keepsake // Cape Blazer from Love Bonito // Heels from Vera Wang // Bag from Hermes

The white geometric tube dress I have on is yet another quality classic piece from Australian label Keepsake. I love how the structured silhouette and asymmetrical hemline add a dose of edginess to the otherwise feminine dress.
Speaking of Australia, I am looking forward to my Gold Coast getaway that’s happening in just a bit. I seem to have so many things on my plate these days and I just need my precious “me” time to relax and recharge.
If you’re interested in what I’ll be up to in Gold Coast, you may wish to follow me on instagram (@reginachow_sg) and snapchat (@reginachow_sg) as I will be sharing instant updates on these two platforms when I’m away!

Have a great weekend ahead!

Fashion Fridays: REDValentino Takashimaya

May 15, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

REDValentino is one of my favourite brands. It epitomizes the feminine, preppy chic style peppered with quirky, whimsical elements.
“The REDValentino girl is an adventurer, a citizen of the world. She is
open minded and ironic, she speaks all the languages as she embodies the
contemporary. Intelligent and self-reliant, she likes to dare and to
rebel to common rules. She is a dreamer but has the capability of being
down to earth too. Inspired by the exciting new world unfolding around
her, she borrows bits and pieces and makes them her own.”
I always feel like I’ve walked into a fairy-tale when I step foot into a REDValentino store and the dreamlike experience continues in REDValentino’s third store in Singapore at Takashimaya, Ngee Ann City.

The new 116 square metre boutique, designed by Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli of Maison Valentino, currently stocks its Spring/Summer 2015 Collection.

White is the unifying theme for the store as it provides a blank canvas with which you can put together the outfit of your dreams and create your own fairy tale.
It is a place where you can unleash your imagination and let your dreams and aspirations of becoming a princess come alive.

Bold prints in nautical colours, dreamy pastels, floral prints, polka dots and tutu skirts are what you can expect from REDValentino’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection. These feminine, timeless styles are injected with a dash of playfulness and a sense of adventure that is unique only to the REDValentino girl.
Here are just some of my favourites (I would love to have them in my wardobe!):

Fashion Fridays: Keepsake I Will Wait Dress

May 8, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

I have a soft spot for lace dresses, especially lace dresses with scallop trims and asymmetrical hemlines. Little wonder why Australian label Keepsake’s I Will Wait dress caught my eye.
The silhouette makes it appropriate for work, but if you work in a more conservative environment, I would suggest throwing on a blazer to add structure. For events and functions, all you have to do is take off the blazer, slip into a pair of glamorous open-toe heels and you’re all set to steal the limelight.

The amazing thing about Australian fashion labels is that you never have to worry about quality. By and large, I have always been more than satisfied with my purchases because the material and workmanship never disappoint. Oh and did I mention that their smallest size usually fits me to a T? I have a couple of pieces from Keepsake in XXS and most require no alteration work, or in the worst case scenario, very minor nips and tucks.

You can find Keepsake and other popular Aussie labels online, but personally, I like to shop from The Bird Cage Boutique as there are occasions (like now!!) when they offer an additional 40% off sale items! There’s also free shipping on orders above A$200!

Dress from Keepsake (here)
Shoes from Miu Miu
Clutch from YSL
Bangle from Hermes

If you were wondering, this set of photos was taken along one of the back alleys in Little India. Can you believe that these beautiful spiral staircases were built as an escape route in times of emergency?
I love venturing into back alleys, away from the hustle and bustle of the main street. It is such a therapeutic yet educational experience. You’ll see a different side of Singapore’s urban landscape and catch a glimpse of history too as many of these shop houses have their own stories to tell.
The beauty lies in the tiniest of details, and all you need to do is keep your eyes peeled as every corner brings new surprises.

Fashion Fridays: Going Whimsical

May 1, 2015 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
Clean, minimalist silhouettes are slowly taking over my wardrobe these days, but there are times when I crave for a more whimsical touch. Splashes of prints and bold colours, bags in unexpected shapes, shoes with wings…you get the drift. Challenging the status quo and what is considered the norm embodies the true essence of the whimsical style. It is all about breaking the rules and I love how it allows your imagination to take flight and venture far into the unknown.
A combination of quirky prints and whimsical elements never fails to create a statement and this makes it a style that is almost impossible to replicate. It is an expression of your individuality and I guess that is one of the reasons why I am inexplicably drawn to this style.
Today’s outfit features a swan print dress from Ching with a detachable swan collar no less, paired with a Kate Spade Apple Bag (one of my perennial favourites) and my adorable gladiator heels from Sophia Webster.  You may find this outfit familiar if you follow me on instagram (@reginachow_sg) as I wore this ensemble to the recent Fashion Steps Out 2015 event.
If you think the whimsy style is a little too much for you, you can always go for a more monochromatic palette. In this case, black and white take center stage while red accents punctuate the outfit and inject a dash of fun. Alternatively, go slow and perhaps begin by adding a kitschy statement bag to your wardrobe for a start. It is bound to be a conversation starter and I can assure you there’s no turning back!

Dress from Ching (Far East Plaza)
Shoes from Sophia Webster
Bag from Kate Spade
Cuff from Hermes

What’s your take on the whimsical style? Do you like it as much as I do?
As always, thank you so much for reading and have a wonderful long weekend!

Fashion Fridays: Layering with Ponchos by Freja Designs

April 24, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

In today’s Fashion Fridays post, I will be sharing more about layering with ponchos from Freja Designs. Yes, layering is possible even in our hot and humid climate!
I’m not sure about you, but I am always undecided about whether I should bring out a cardigan or a jacket to keep myself warm because I could be feeling unbearably hot at one point and in the blink of an eye, be completely frozen when I enter a mall. In Singapore, it
may be blazing hot when you step outdoors, but the minute you step into a
shopping mall, the temperature dips drastically as you are greeted by
cool air blasting from the air-conditioners. Don’t even get me started
on the cinemas.
Ponchos, like this one from Freja Designs are a wonderful alternative. Freja Designs is a Swedish fashion brand that is currently found in hotels such as Fullerton Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel and Conrad Hotel. Made of 100% Rayon, their ponchos are incredibly lightweight and versatile. You can layer it over a dress like I did, or if you prefer a more casual look, layer it over a top and wear it out with shorts instead.

While I wouldn’t say that a poncho like this could keep you extremely warm, it does provide some degree of warmth and coverage. Better yet, it adds interest to your outfit and makes a statement. Just look at how my simple white dress has transformed.
It is amazing how a poncho could make a difference to your entire outfit. I can foresee myself bringing this along for my overseas trips too as it is completely crease-free. In fact, this would make the perfect beach cover-up too!

Fashion Fridays: Blooming Bougainvillea in Singapore

April 10, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

A glance at the numerous photos on Instagram is all it takes for us to know that it is currently the Sakura season in Japan. The breathtaking scenery makes me wish I had planned a trip to Tokyo this year. Oh well, there’s always next year.
A few weeks ago however, one of my girlfriends alerted me to these gorgeous pink bougainvillea trees in Toa Payoh central. I saw her photos on Facebook and wow, they definitely look like the next best thing to Sakura. Curiosity got the better of me and I had to go down to take a look.
To say that I was completely blown away by the sight would be an understatement. I basked in the glorious beauty of mother nature and wondered at the same time why there was hardly anyone around to take in the magnificent view. There were only a handful of domestic helpers enjoying a mini picnic of sorts as they marveled at the beautiful trees and proceeded to snap away on their cameras.
Indeed, photography is the beauty of life captured and photos speak a thousand words.

As you can tell, I was completely besotted. The pictures would have been even more perfect if we had green pastures in place of the tiled flooring.

My outfit for the day was a casual eyelet top and skirt set from Japanese label Liz Lisa, which was purchased last June during my trip to Hokkaido. Before this, it was hiding in the depths of my wardrobe waiting to be discovered. My wardrobe is bursting but I always feel that I have nothing to wear and it doesn’t help that I tend to forget what I have in there. Isn’t this a perennial problem that most of us ladies (and some gentlemen) face?
The Liz Lisa brand is femininity personified. Frills, floral prints, bows and lace are what you can expect in almost every collection.
I find this preppy set very wearable as it exudes tenderness without being too girly. To up the preppy factor, I paired it with a whimsical Alice in Wonderland book clutch in the same colour palette.  You can also mix and match the top and bottom separately to create different looks for the weekend.

I hope you enjoyed today’s edition of Fashion Fridays! Have a great weekend ahead!

Fashion Fridays: Of Pink Highlights and Goodbyes

April 3, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments
While I generally favour neutral colours and monochromatic tones, there are times when I shake up my wardrobe by injecting a splash of colours and bold prints. The same principle applies to my hair colour. I’ve never steered away from shades of ash, brown and blonde, but every now and then, I’ll take the plunge and go for colourful highlights. I had purple highlights about a year ago but this time, pink beckoned.
My hairstylist, Michelle Soh, from Jeric Salon at Bugis, gave me vibrant pink highlights without bleaching and as I am typing this post about 2 weeks on, my highlights are not showing any signs of fading. What I love about Jeric Salon is that only Aveda products and hair dyes are used. Unlike most brands, Aveda uses naturally-derived ingredients to ensure that your hair and scalp are well taken care of. With Aveda, I can now achieve beautiful colours without exposing my scalp to harsh chemicals and bleach. Killing two birds with one stone has never been easier!

I love my pink highlights so much that I decided to dedicate today’s edition of Fashion Fridays to an all pink ensemble that spells fun without compromising on femininity. I usually find midi skirts a little too formal for the weekend, but the whimsical prints on this 2-piece set takes the fun factor up a notch and makes it a great weekend outfit.
I wore this eye-catching set out to run some errands before meeting up with my family and visiting my grandmother at her home in Tanjong Pagar. As age catches up on me, my priorities change and I see myself seizing every opportunity to spend time with my family and close friends.
On a more personal note, the month of April also marks the death anniversary of a close friend whom I lost to an accident many years ago. Goodbyes are never easy, but saying goodbye is not the hardest part of losing someone. Having to continue living your life without them is always the hardest. That feeling of emptiness, that very void that is impossible to fill.

Unfortunately, losing our loved ones is part and parcel of life, and something that we have absolutely no control over. Cherish every
moment and treasure every person that you love,
because you’ll never know when they’ll take their last breaths.
If you haven’t made any plans this long weekend, perhaps you’ll like to make some time for your family and loved ones?

Fashion Fridays: Cocomi – Luxury Watch Online Retailer (Giveaway at the end!)

March 20, 2015 by Regina Chow 56 Comments

The evolution of the retail industry to online shopping cannot be ignored, and Cocomi.com, a newly launched online retailer specializing in premium luxury watches knows just that.

 Founded by the Nobreeze Group
who also brought in the hugely popular jewellery brand Pandora and other
brands such as Cath Kidston and Bering, just to name a few, you can
shop with peace of mind at Cocomi.com as what you see is what you get.

I invited Karen along with me to the media launch of Cocomi.com, which gave us a sneak peek into the world-class brands offered, including Aigner, Ballast, Bering, Casio, CCCP, Cognito, Daniel Wellington, DuFa, James McCabe, Morgan, Pebble and Thomas Earnshaw, among others.

Here’s how Cocomi.com differentiates itself from other watch e-retailers:

  •  100% Genuine Watches
  • Free Shipping in Singapore (within 3-5 working days)
  • 30-day Return Policy
  • Safe & Secure Payment
  • One-Stop Service Centre
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Cocomi.com has a one-stop service centre to provide after service care for all your needs. My wrist is tiny and one of the reasons why I hardly buy watches online is because of the hassle of having to get my watch strap adjusted by another watch retailer at their physical store. Thanks to Cocomi.com’s service centre, I can finally cast my worries aside.

To provide you with an exclusive shopping experience, Cocomi.com has also secured exclusive rights to market brands such as Ballast, DuFa and James McCabe.

I placed my first order on Cocomi.com recently to put their service to the test and I am happy to report that they delivered what was promised. I received my Bering watch in less than 5 working days in pristine condition!
*GIVEAWAY*
To thank all my lovely readers for your support over the years, I will be giving away this gorgeous Bering watch worth S$299 to one lucky reader!

Fashion Fridays: Crop Tops & Book Clutches

March 13, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

Today’s edition of Fashion Fridays features one of my typical weekend outfits. I have an obsession with crop tops, if you haven’t already realized, as I think they’re perfect for our sweltering heat (is Singapore getting hotter or is it just me?). I pair a crop top with shorts or a simple skater skirt and off I go to run my errands or catch up with loved ones every weekend.
Book clutches are my go-to bags for the weekend. They’re instant conversation starters, easy to match and never fail to draw attention wherever I go. I have quite a
number of these adorable book clutches in my wardrobe, some a little
more whimsical while others are a little edgier, but I love them all the
same. The size is just right too as I like to minimize the load that I lug around to prevent back pains. More importantly, the likelihood of bumping into someone else with the same bag is close to zilch.

On a more
personal note, I’ve been a little under the weather recently. It could
be the heat, the haze or just fatigue as a result of everything that is
going on in my life right now.
JW and I are in the midst of planning some lifestyle changes, and as much as I would like to reveal more, the details would have to be kept under wraps in the interim (if you were wondering, no I am not pregnant….). For now, all I hope to do when the weekend arrives is to spend time with JW and also spend some time alone to let my body shut down and let my mind wander. I’m a very homely person by nature, and as much as I enjoy the company of friends and family, I relish time alone.

Fashion Fridays: Stylish Sudio Earphones

March 6, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments
I love music, but I love fashion too. The reason why I used ‘but’ instead of ‘and’ here is because as much as I love to listen to music, especially when I am on the go, finding a pair of stylish earphones with good sound quality is a tall order. It is difficult to have the best of both worlds and more often than not, I’ll end up heading out without my earphones so as not to compromise on style.

In today’s edition of Fashion Fridays, I will be sharing my recent experience with Sudio, a Swedish brand of earphones that truly understands how important it is to marry style with quality and comfort. I have always been a fan of Scandinavian design and Sudio’s elegant meets preppy designs are just perfect.

I wanted a pair of earphones that is compatible with all smartphones and devices, and Sudio’s TVÅ earphones are just what I needed.

Style Personified

. Truth be told, I have never felt so excited about unboxing gadgets until Sudio came along. Each item, from the earphones, the genuine leather case, to the manual, comes with a carefully labelled little box of its own. The packaging alone is bound to impress.

The genuine leather case and gold clip to keep dangling wires in place are such thoughtful add-ons too. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had problems searching for my earphones after I place them in my handbag. This nifty case is not only presentable, but it also solves all my problems too.

The Sudio TVÅ earphones come in four colours and I was particularly attracted to both the black and brown options. The black exudes an air of sophistication while the brown has a distinctive vintage preppy vibe.  I really adore the gold details and look, that gorgeous gold clip doubles up as an accessory too.

Its lightness and aesthetically pleasing
design are reasons why I keep it handy whenever I go out, because there always
those moments when you want to either view online vids amidst noisy crowds
or indulge in your favourite music. With a stylish leather case, and
tangle-resistant flat cords, Sudio TVÅ is a darling to carry around.

Crisp and Well-balanced Sound Quality

Listening on the Sudio TVÅ is an absolute delight. Besides the crisp and
well-balanced sound quality, its lightweight construction and
ergonomical earbud design ensures that you wouldn’t experience any discomfort even
after long hours of listening.

In all honesty, Sudio’s
design and sound quality truly stand out in the crowd, even among the bigger boys.
Affordably priced at just slightly over S$60 (or 365 Swedish Kronas) with free international shipping included, the Sudio TVÅ would make a perfect gift, either for yourself or your loved ones.
Special Discount for Readers of Shopping Queen’s Haven
All readers of Shopping Queen’s Haven will also be entitled to a special discount. Simply key in REGINA15 upon checkout to enjoy a 15% off your purchase.
