Luxola Sunscreen Review & Discount Code

March 26, 2015 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

I never ever leave the house without sunscreen, and if I had to choose one skincare product that I cannot do without, sunscreen would certainly be my choice. Luxola Singapore must have read my mind because they sent 3 sunscreen products my way recently. **Luxola has also extended a special discount code for my readers, so do read on till the end of the post to find out more!

I cannot stress enough the importance of wearing sunscreen to prevent pigmentation and premature aging. However, one man’s meat could jolly well be another man’s poison and this theory applies to sunscreen too. A particular sunscreen brand or formulation may glide onto your skin beautifully without any greasy after feel, but it could also make someone else look like she smeared grease onto her face.

To find the right sunscreen that suits your needs, here are just some of the questions that you would need to answer:

What is your skin type?
Is your skin sensitive or prone to allergies?
Are you looking for a face or body sunscreen?
Are you intending to use it in Singapore or overseas?

To help you along, I will be using these questions as a basis to review the 3 sunscreen brands from Luxola.
1) Lunamer UV Protector SPF 40 PA++ (S$42)
Lunamer hails from Japan, and if your skin is prone to irritation or allergies due to environmental aggressors like air pollution, you’ll be happy to know that all Lunamer skincare products, including this sunscreen, is formulated with ingredients such as Clear Nano Vitamin E, Crown Sugar and Japanese herb Scutellaria Baicalensis to protect the skin from air pollution and UV rays.
I have slightly sensitive oily skin that is dehydrated beneath and most sunscreens make my face look as shiny as a disco ball or in the worst case scenario, result in the formation of oil seeds on my face.
What I love about Lunamer’s sunscreen is its serum-like texture which glides on like a dream and feels absolutely featherlight on my face. The lightweight yet hydrating formula makes this sunscreen perfect for our humid climate.
Did you know that this multi-tasking product doubles up as a moisturizer and primer too? Not only am I able to simplify my beauty routine, it also ensures that my make-up stays put the whole day. If you have oily skin like me, you will love this.
Sunscreen has to be reapplied every 2 hours, but most of us tend to neglect this aspect as it is such a hassle to lug it around. Thanks to Lunamer’s slim and handy packaging, you can easily pop this into your handbag and reapply your sunscreen throughout the day.
2) Soleil Du Midi Face Sunscreen SPF 45 (S$100)
I have always been intrigued by organic skincare products as I believe that reduced exposure to harmful chemicals benefits our skin in the long term.
Soleil Toujours is a luxury organic sun care brand and the Soleil Toujours Du Midi Face Sunscreen SPF 45 is a physical sunscreen with 81% natural ingredients. It also contains an innovative proprietary Eco-sun complex, which comprises powerful anti-aging and anti-oxidant ingredients such as red algae, Vitamin C ester, Vitamin E and bisabolol. This anti-aging formula aims to hydrate and smooth fine lines.
Physical sunscreens like this one are usually more suitable for sensitive skin as its active ingredients include titanium dioxide and zinc oxide which are not absorbed into the skin. Chemical sunscreens, on the other hand, are absorbed by the skin and could potentially cause allergies.

Soleil Du Midi is specially formulated for use during intense sun exposure
but despite its skin loving properties, I find its thick consistency
harder to blend and it also leaves behind a slight sheen, which is typical of a physical sunscreen. One way to counter this is to dust on a layer of
loose powder to keep the shine at bay. Alternatively, you could also reserve
this for use when you travel to countries with drier climates.
3) Supergoop! Everyday SPF30 with Cellular Response Technology (S$68)
Supergoop! is a non-oily, non-comedogenic chemical sunscreen that can be used on both your face and body.
Its avobenzone based formula absorbs into the skin readily and it
replenishes moisture through a unique beta-glucan proven to deliver
better long term hydration than hyauluronic acid.

It comes with a convenient twist-and-lock pump but due to the sunscreen’s thin, liquid consistency, it can be rather challenging to control the amount of product dispensed.
I have tried this sunscreen on both my face and body, and personally, I would recommend this as a body sunscreen. While it does not feel greasy when applied to the face, my skin looks much shinier than when I applied the other two sunscreens featured. When applied to the body however, this feels just like a regular body moisturizer, without any icky sticky after feel. It also makes a great sunscreen for sports or beach lovers as it is water-resistant for 80 minutes!

Each sunscreen has its pros and cons, and each product’s suitability is dependent on your skin type, the environment and climate that you are exposed to as well as the activities that you are engaging in. I personally prefer the Lunamer for daily use in Singapore, Soleil Du Midi for when I travel to temperate countries and SuperGoop! as a body sunscreen, especially when I head to the beach.

First impressions always count, and a glance at Gucci Guilty Diamond’s eye-catching design is all it takes to create that spark of desire. A desire to possess it.
Gucci Guilty Diamond is the perfect accessory on your vanity table. The alluring scent is sealed in a glorious gold metallic bottle with glass windows in an entwined G design. The glittering diamonds add a dash of glamour to the bottle while the matte black packaging lends a touch of sophistication and elegance. If you’re thinking of getting a gift for that special someone, this would be it.
Appearance aside, Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Femme and Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Homme both personify the heady, seductive and thrilling original Gucci Guilty scents. These new limited edition fragrances encapsulate the electrifying chemistry
between the stars of Gucci Guilty’s campaigns: actors Evan Rachel Wood

Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Femme boasts an oriental floral scent which opens with a hint of pink pepper before progressing to middle notes of lilac and cardamon. Feminine yet seductive, the scent closes with a delightful amber scent coupled with an evocative dose of patchouli that is set to entice and enthrall.
Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Homme is just as invigorating and refreshing a scent, tantalizing your senses with citrus top notes of Italian lemon and mandarin, crushed green leaves and pink pepper. Soothing lavender notes are central to the scent, complete with a touch of coriander, orange flower and neroli. This rich, sexy scent is bound to drive the ladies wild as cedar and patchouli base notes add that extra hint of masculine appeal.

Aesthetics & Beauty Looking Fabulous & Gorgeous Party

March 12, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

We all want to look fabulous and gorgeous, don’t we? With this in mind, Aesthetics & Beauty Magazine organized a Looking Fabulous & Gorgeous Party at Lime House last month.
I don’t know about you, but I am always on the lookout for new skincare and beauty products as our skin transforms with age and environmental changes. In a nutshell,
this means that it is always useful to change up your beauty routine
every now and then to keep your skin in tip top condition.

I had a wonderful time at the party as it gave me the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with several brands, some of which were new to me. In today’s post, I will be sharing more about some of these beauty brands, so let’s start the ball rolling, shall we?
JANE IREDALE
My eyes lit up immediately when I saw a booth dedicated to Jane Iredale as Karen had recommended their Powder-Me SPF (essentially a powder sunblock with SPF 30) to me several years ago and I have been using it religiously since.
For the uninitiated, Jane Iredale is a mineral make-up pioneer from USA. And in case you were wondering, yes, Jane is a real person.
Jane Iredale’s inspiration stemmed from her career as a casting director and producer, where she got to work with actresses and models who depended on beautiful, healthy skin for successful careers. To further her passion to enhance the lives of women, Jane worked with dermatologists and plastic surgeons to develop her own cosmetics line. Today, there are over 400 products in Jane Iredale’s cosmetics line.
Plastic surgeons were the first to recognize the benefits of mineral foundations and how safe they were to use, even on patients who had just undergone laser resurfacing. The brand’s best-seller is the Glow Time BB cream, which includes antioxidants such as green tea and pomegranate to soothe skin.

How is Jane Iredale different from other cosmetic brands?
Jane Iredale’s key ingredient is micronised mineral particles. When applied, these particles create a protective layer against external pollutants without clogging pores, while giving you the coverage that you need. Their products are suitable for all skin types, including acne-prone and sensitive skin, as harmful chemicals such as preservatives, dyes and perfumes, as well as alcohol, are omitted.

Aside from skin-loving ingredients, another interesting aspect about Jane Iredale’s make-up or mineral make-up in general, is that it does not dissolve in water or oil. The lovely people from Jane Iredale placed two containers of water, one for normal cosmetics and the other for Jane Iredale’s make-up, to prove this to us. Hence, there is no need for multiple touch-ups and your make-up wouldn’t slide off your face on a hot, humid day. Isn’t that great for our weather?
Jane Iredale has also recently launched its new make-up collection, Country Weekend, this month. The collection features a limited edition Getaway Eye Shadow Kit that offers 5 wearable neutral shades, Jelly Jar Gel Eyeliner in Espresso, and Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain in Forever Peach. I’ll be reviewing these products in a separate post, so do look out for it soon!

ENVIRON
Environ is a beauty brand that is entirely new to me, but I couldn’t be more impressed when I learnt more about the brand’s history. Environ was founded by Dr Des Fernandes, a prominent Cape Town plastic surgeon, who was also the first person in the world to introduce vitamin A in high effective doses.
“A face lift in a bottle” is what the Intensive Revival Masque, the brand’s latest product, aims to achieve with revolutionary ingredients such as Asiatic, Mandelic and Lactic Acid. I was told that not only can you look forward to younger looking skin after using it for about 4-6 months, the Mandelic acid in this product can also help lighten pigmentation over time.
I have pigmentation on my upper cheeks (hereditary, unfortunately) and am definitely hoping to see visible results in the longer term.

DR BENJAMIN YIM CLINICAL AESTHETICS & LASER CENTRE
Dr
Benjamin Yim specializes in aesthetics treatments like Botox, skin
fillers, peels and thermage. A key pioneer in the aesthetics industry
with highly valued opinions, Dr. Yim is a popular speaker at many
aesthetic conferences around Asia.

Other treatments
that are available at Dr Benjamin Yim’s clinic include fat
transfer, threadlifts and vaser liposelection as well as
fractional resurfacing.

I was very excited to see Latisse at the counter as I have heard so much about its effectiveness in promoting lash growth. Apart from Latisse, Dr Benjamin Yim also carries his own brand of skincare products at the clinic to cater to different skin types.

BENE PREMIUM BLURIA & BENE PREMIUM ROUGERIA
I try my very best to take good care of my hair especially since I subject it to chemical treatments and dyes ever so often. Fortunately, more non-silicone shampoo and hair treatment products are making their way to our shores these days. Moltobene’s Bene Premium Bluria and Bene Premium Rougeria ranges may be the new kids on the block where Singapore is concerned, but they have come a long way in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Both ranges are 100% made in Japan and formulated with natural ingredients to transform hair to its original state of health by cleansing all the impurities on the scalp.

I have been using the Bene Premium Bluria range, which is meant for scalp care, for a couple of weeks now and my scalp does feel much cleaner and less irritable.
Unlike most scalp-care shampoos, it has a surprisingly refreshing yet feminine fragrance which boasts fresh and fruity top notes, a floral middle note and a musky base note. The delicate scent is what I like best about this range as fragrant scalp-care shampoos are relatively rare in the market.
TEALY
Beauty comes from within and tea, which is chock full of antioxidants, can help us to achieve inner beauty thanks to its health and skin benefits. I love tea, and if you’re like me, you will find Tealy’s tea varieties very unique.

With exclusive flavours such as Earl Grey Creme, Anjou Paradise, Mint Chocolate Truffle and Wonder Berry Chocolate Truffle, it is hard not to be impressed.

We had the opportunity to taste the Anjou Paradise Ceylon Tea blend, a fruit infusion with sweet pear, pineapple and passion fruit flavours topped with a citrus finish. Surprisingly, its fruity aroma and slight tinge of sweetness seemed to go well with desserts and was the perfect accompaniment to the strawberry cakes that were served.

Karen, Raphael and I had a lovely afternoon getting to know more about each of these brands. Thanks to their generosity, each of us walked away with 3 bags of goodies on top of lucky draw prizes.

It has been a while since I last met Joselyn as well, and it was such a pleasure catching up with her at the event too.

Thank you once again for organizing such a fabulous party!

Beauty: Shiseido Aqualabel Special Gel Cream Review

March 11, 2015 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

I’m always excited to try new skincare products, especially gel-based skincare products which glide on smoothly without any greasy after-feel. Shiseido’s Aqualabel Special Gel Cream, winner of Women’s Weekly “Best Beauty Buys 2014”, is one such product that I have been intending to review.

I finally took the tub of goodness out of its box and incorporated it into my skincare routine about 2 weeks ago, and I can safely say that it works well on my skin which is oily on the surface and dehydrated beneath.

What I love about Shiseido’s
Aqualabel Special Gel Cream is its velvety soft jelly-like texture which
feels featherlight on my skin and yet locks in moisture at the same
time.

Multi-tasking 5-in-1 Gel Cream

A multi-tasking 5 in 1 gel cream that contains a high concentration of collagen with double hyaluronic acid and can be used as a lotion (toner), emulsion, essence, cream and mask all at once, it gives you more bang for your buck than your average moisturizer in the market.

Powered by Aqualabel’s exclusive Aqua Synergy technology, the special gel cream penetrates deeper into your skin to deliver moisture and fight signs of aging, giving you dewy, supple and hydrated skin.

Pop it in the fridge to give your skin an extra pick-me-up in the mornings and use it as a sleeping mask at night (I do this once or twice a week) and on flights to keep your skin moisturized. A little goes a long way, and I believe this tub will last me for about 6 months at least.

Use it as a sleeping mask

To use it as a sleeping mask, pick up a 50 cent dollop of cream, apply it on to your face and let it sit for about 3 minutes before massaging it thoroughly into your skin. Head to bed when it’s fully absorbed and wake up to smooth, radiant and glowing skin in the morning.

All-in-one products like this special gel cream are just perfect for traveling and this gem of a skincare product is definitely heading overseas with me on my next flight out of the country!

Sponsored Video: #changedestiny Beyond the Limits of My DNA – Misa Kuranaga

February 21, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments
Do you believe that your future is shaped by your DNA?

SK-II believes that a woman’s destiny is created by herself and not determined by her DNA.

Misa Kuranaga, currently the Principal Ballerina of the world-renowned Boston Ballet, is the perfect example and how she changed her own destiny is featured in the video above.

Her rise to the top was fraught with challenges along the way. She was told she did not have the physical attributes of a ballerina. Standing at just 156cm, her critics opined that she was too short to stand out on stage and her hips were too narrow for the art of ballet.

Instead of giving up, she re-learned how to use her body and trained it to move extremely fast so as to stand out. She had to work doubly hard as her peers were much younger, but not once did she give up. Her hard work and perseverance eventually paid off.

It’s all in the mind, they say.  Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right. A positive mind leads to positive results and having a can-do spirit can help us to overcome any obstacles that come our way.

Indeed, Misa Kuranaga’s story serves as an inspiration to all of us. Watch the video to find out how she changed her destiny and how you can change yours too.

SOTHYS Sensitive Skincare Line

February 10, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

SOTHYS is one of the skincare brands on my beauty bucket list and I’ve been anxiously awaiting the day when I can finally tick it off. That day finally came on Boxing Day last year when I was invited to a tea session hosted by Sothys at TWG Tea Salon & Boutique, where the SOTHYS Sensitive Line was unveiled.
Did you know that 90% of Asian women have sensitive skin? There are two types of sensitive skin, namely 1) naturally sensitive skin or 2) temporarily sensitised skin. People  with naturally sensitive skin, like me, generally have thin and fair skin which turns red easily. Temporarily sensitised skin, on the other hand, is affected by external factors such as environmental aggressions, lifestyle or the use of unsuitable skincare/cosmetic products.

SOTHYS Sensitive Line would work well for you regardless of which group you fall into as it aims to build your skin’s inner strength to balance your skin’s tolerance threshold and limit inflammatory reactions. What I also like about this range is that it is completely fragrance-free.

The star ingredient in SOTHYS Sensitive Line Skincare is Spa Thermal Water extracted from between 350-400m altitude at the heart of Belgian Ardennes. It is pure, has a low mineral and sodium content as well as a ph 5 value, which is the same as that of our skin. It helps to rebalance the hypersensitivity of our skin and strengthen its tolerance threshold by blocking TRPV1 epidermal receptors that induces pain or itch on the surface of our skin.

Let’s take a look at some of the products in this skincare line.

 Nutri-Soothing Mask (S$99, 50ml)

Nutri-Soothing mask is an emergency care mask that instantly relieves any discomfort and rebalance your skin. As we were given handy travel sized versions of the skincare range to test out at home and I’ve been using this as a hydrating mask once a week.
All you have to do is to apply a thin layer over your face and neck, leave it on for about 10 minutes and rinse it off. My skin is generally dehydrated, which makes it susceptible to itch. It doesn’t help that my skin condition worsens when I travel to colder and dryer climates. I like how this mask does a good job of soothing my skin while providing much-needed hydration at the same time.
Soothing Melting Fluid (S$119/50ml)

SOTHYS Soothing Melting Fluid is essentially a daily moisturizer that acts like a barrier to protect your skin from external aggressions and reduce any skin discomfort.

This light-weight formula is
great for those of you with sensitive and combination skin as it absorbs
readily into your skin just like water, without any sticky after-feel.

If your skin is sensitive and
dry, or if you intend to venture to dryer climates, you might want to
consider the Soothing Melting Cream which has a slightly heavier
texture to deliver optimal hydration.

SOS Soothing Serum (S$109/20ml)
As the name suggests, the Soothing SOS serum instantly soothes permanent or temporary sensations of discomfort and limits the appearance of redness.
This is particularly useful if your skin is prone to itch or redness as it is proven that your skin becomes less sensitive to external aggressions after 15 days of usage. You can apply this before moisturizer on your entire face or on targeted spots.
Micellar Cleansing Water (S$79/200ml)

Micellar Cleansing Water is a 2-in-1 cleanser for face and eyes and is by far my favourite product in the entire range because it also doubles up as a skin refreshener. Formulated with Micelles which consists of gentle cleansing agents, it is able to trap and lift surface impurities to effectively cleanse your skin in just one step.
As no rinsing is required, I like to apply this to my face with cotton pads to freshen up my skin before and after my hot yoga classes when I do not have a facial cleanser on hand. This is also perfect for removing light make-up or tinted sunblock.

If you’ve sensitive skin just like me, do consider giving SOTHYS Sensitive Skincare Line a go. Not only is it proven to improve your skin’s condition, the light and silky smooth texture of the products is certainly a huge draw, especially in our humid climate.

Look Younger with Sculptra at CeleVenus

January 29, 2015 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

If you have been following my blog for a while, you would probably have read about my positive experience with Dr Dylan Chau from CeleVenus Wellness & Aesthetic Clinic for non-invasive aesthetic procedures.

This time, I was introduced to Sculptra, the first anti-aging facial injectable that gives you subtle results over time. Unlike fillers, it is not a quick fix and results are not immediate, but it is long-lasting and promises a more natural appearance without giving you away, which is what we all want at the end of the day isn’t it?

I have had dark eye circles for as long as I can remember, but they look far worse when accompanied by sunken under eye hollows (otherwise known as tear troughs) which only deepen with age. While there is little that can be done to eradicate dark eye circles for good, you can however get rid of your sunken tear troughs with non-invasive aesthetic procedures like Sculptra.

What is Sculptra?
The loss of collagen is the main cause of facial ageing, which leads to deeper lines and more sunken eyes. Made from Poly-L-lactic acid, Sculptra targets the root of the problem by replacing lost collagen over time. Poly-L-lactic acid is gradually and naturally absorbed into the body, and has been used in dissolvable stitches and as a facial injectable since 1999 in over 30 countries.

It starts to work within the deep dermis and as Sculptra replaces your skin’s lost collagen, the reinforced collagen structure forms the foundation that gradually plumps up wrinkles, folds and sunken areas to restore the look of fullness.

How does Sculptra work?

In general, Sculptra is not meant to be injected into the eye and lip areas. How does it correct under eye hollows or tear troughs then? It is injected into the upper cheekbone area to plump up the skin, which in turn corrects the hollowness in the tear trough area.

This is the key reason why you should engage an experienced aesthetic doctor who knows the dos and don’ts of the Sculptra procedure at the back of his hands.

Dr Dylan Chau is a Sculptra Trainer for doctors in Singapore and is one of the pioneers in Sculptra procedures since its launch in Singapore. Dr Chau’s qualifications, coupled with the fact that he has an eye for aesthetics, assured me that I would be in good hands.

Sculptra requires a series of 3-4 treatments spaced a month apart as time is needed for your skin to generate collagen. It is also important to administer injections in small dosages to achieve the best results.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream is typically applied for about 20-30 minutes prior to the procedure. There was some discomfort during the injection but it wasn’t particularly painful for me.

Numbing cream application prior to Sculptra Injection

How long does it last? Is there any downtime?
It can last for more than 2 years, but as with all aesthetic procedures, individual results may vary.

What can you expect immediately after Sculptra? Is there any downtime?
There is no downtime. However, I experienced slight redness and a little bruising after my first session, but I hardly had any bruising after my second session. In any case, all you need is a dab of concealer to cover up any imperfections.

Here are some pictures of me before Sculptra to give you a better idea of how sunken my tear troughs look.

Sunken tear troughs (without makeup) before Sculptra Injection
Sunken tear troughs (with make-up) before Sculptra

Even after applying several layers of concealer, you can tell that I am unable to fully conceal my dark eye circles due to my sunken tear troughs. I also look more tired than I actually am.
After Sculptra, my tear trough immediately looked plumped up and less sunken. I was also told to massage the area 5 times a day for a period of 1 week to ensure that the Poly-L-lactic acid is evenly distributed throughout the tear troughs.
Plumped up under eye area immediately after Sculptra Injection

At the end of 1 week, you will probably notice that the initial fullness around the tear trough area would have disappeared. This is normal, as the Poly-L-lactic acid is gradually absorbed into the body and your body starts to generate collagen to plump up the sunken area.

Here’s a photo of me taken 1 month after my second session of Sculptra. Don’t you agree that I look more awake and less tired (even without my eyelash extensions)? What I love most about the treatment is that I no longer have to apply thick layers of make-up to conceal my dark eye circles. Now, all I need is 1 light layer of concealer, which translates to extra time savings for me!

After 2nd session of Sculptra

Once again, I can’t be more grateful to Dr Chau and CeleVenus for turning back the clock and restoring my youth!

Sponsored Video: Maybelline Hypersharp Wing Liner

January 24, 2015 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
If you were to ask me to name one make-up item that I can’t live without, my answer would be eyeliner. I have been wearing classic winged eyeliner for years, and I can’t wait to get hold of the newly launched Maybelline Hypersharp Wing Liner.
I typically use pencil eyeliners as most liquid eyeliners are either too thin or too thick for my eyes and they smudge really easily too. Maybelline Hypersharp Wing Liner promises cleaner, more precise lines and comes with a duo thickness brush that allows you to vary the thickness of your eyeliner depending on the occasion.
The duo thickness flat tip brush measures 0.01mm on one side for thin strokes and can go up to 2mm for thicker lines. All you have to do is twist the pen to adjust the thickness. Plus, it is 100% water-proof and highly pigmented, which means your eyeliner stays put for 24 hours.
Watch the video below to see how you can easily switch between thick and thin lines with the flick of your wrist:

As I have eyelash extensions on, I would typically start by drawing a thin line from the corner of my upper lash line and wing it out at the end with a slightly thicker line. This style works well for me as it creates the illusion of larger eyes. On days when I prefer a more dramatic look, I would draw a thicker line throughout.
If you need some help, here’s a simple guide to help you perfect that winged tip with Maybelline’s Hypersharp Wing Liner:

Maybelline Hypersharp Wing Liner comes in Intense Black and is currently retailing for S$23.90 at Watsons, Guardian, SaSa, selected departmental stores and major supermarkets.

Jeric Salon: Ash Brown Hair with Aveda

January 22, 2015 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
Ash brown under indoor lighting/minimal light
A new year calls for a new hair sponsor, except that Jeric Salon is no stranger to me, given that I have had my hair done at the salon on several occasions previously. I’ve had some of the most flattering haircuts and hair colours by Director Michelle Soh, hence I knew for sure that I would be in good hands.
If you follow me on instagram (@reginachow_sg), you would have seen my latest perm done by Michelle just a couple of days ago. I will share more details about that separately.
Before my recent perm, Michelle gave me a trim and a fresh coat of colour to welcome the new year. I love how the colour looks ash brown indoors or under minimal light and golden brown under sunlight or stronger light. It adds movement and dimension to my hair without going over the top. Most importantly, the final look is fuss-free, stylish yet work appropriate, exactly what I need.

Golden brown under sunlight/stronger light
As I colour my hair frequently, I prefer hair dyes that are derived from natural sources instead of petrochemicals that dry out my hair and pose risks to my health.
If you are like me, you will be happy to know that Jeric Salon uses Aveda products which are formulated from plants, non-petroleum minerals and water. It is also free from parabens, nitro dyes and animal-derived ingredients.

All Aveda products are made from organic botanical oils such as sunflower, jojoba and castor. Its full spectrum deep permanent hair colour is 99% derived from plants and contains organic babassu oil, processed from nuts gathered by the women in Maranhao, Brazil. Through the brand’s purchase of organic babassu oil, it also supports the families in Maranhao and protects the rainforest ecosystem from climate change.
I love how vibrant colours are now achievable without the accompanying health risks. By supporting Aveda, I am also indirectly giving back to society and the environment.

Besides in-salon treatments, suitable home care products are necessary to keep your hair and scalp in the pink of health. I am currently
using the Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment to strengthen
my hair and Be Curly Style Prep to tame my baby hair and to keep my curls moisturized all day long.
If you are interested in Aveda home care products, you can find the full range at Jeric Salon.

Thanks to Michelle and Jeric Salon for giving me beautiful, lustrous and healthy hair!
Remember to book your appointments early for Chinese New Year (there’s no surcharge!) as slots are filling up fast.

Fresver Beauty PTF Plus Face Treatment

January 3, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

I couldn’t be happier when Fresver Beauty proposed that I undergo their PTF Plus face treatment because my skin has always been plagued by pigmentation and clogged pores. Recently, the pigmentation around my upper cheeks seemed to have darkened significantly  after my Maldives trip and I noticed clusters of whiteheads have emerged along the sides of my face.

What is PTF Plus Face Treatment?
PTF
Plus face treatment is an innovative light and heat technology
targeted at hair removal, acne, skin rejuvenation, pigmentation and
vascular skin. This technology, which hails from Japan, produces various
spectrum of lights that penetrate the skin to address different skin
problems. To put it in layman terms, PTF Plus is an improved and more
intense version of IPL, hence you can expect effective, immediate and
longer-lasting results.

The best part about this treatment is that it is painless and effective, with absolutely no downtime.

  Background of Fresver Beauty
Established in 1988, Fresver Beauty is a beauty and wellness brand that offers a wide variety of facial and body treatments with the aim of improving your immunity, increasing your vitality and rejuvenating your cells.
It has 3 branches in Singapore, located at Hougang, Tampines and Orchard. I visited the Tampines branch, which is within walking distance from Tampines MRT.

The friendly staff and cozy atmosphere put me at ease instantly. I was a little early for my appointment, but there was barely any waiting time.

 Personalized Consultation

In fact, I was immediately ushered to the consultation room where I filled up my personal particulars and skin concerns. A personalized consultation and skin scan was also conducted by a manager as Fresver Beauty believes in customizing every customer’s facial treatments based on your skin’s needs.

My pigmentation and clogged pores are usually not noticeable in photographs, but these issues were easily picked up during the scan.

I typically use make-up removal wipes to remove any traces of make-up and sunblock when I travel before I use a facial cleanser, but I was told that my cleansing routine was not thorough enough and could well be the cause of my clogged pores since I was on the road for a prolonged period of time in October. In place of cleansing wipes, my therapist recommended that I should use a cleansing milk for makeup removal instead.

I ended up purchasing a cleansing milk from Dr Grandel, a German skincare brand exclusively carried by Fresver Beauty. After using it for about a week, I noticed that no new bumps have surfaced and my pores feel much cleaner too. It looks like my therapist was right!

PTF Plus Face Treatment for Skin Rejuvenation

I was recommended the PTF Plus Face Treatment for Skin Rejuvenation. To prepare for the treatment, I was led into one of the therapy rooms where I changed into a comfy robe.

What are the benefits of PTF Plus Face Treatment for Skin Rejuvenation?

PTF
Plus light penetrates the skin to re-activate fibroblast to boost collagen
production and elastic fibers. It also promotes blood circulation and wakes up
lazy cells to smooth wrinkles and refine enlarged pores. If you have dull and
listless skin, you’ll be happy to know that this treatment helps to restore
your skin’s natural glow. I love treatments that have multiple functions as
this would translate into both cost and time savings.
The face treatment began like a typical facial. Double-cleansing, steaming, extraction, followed by a gentle neck-shoulder massage as well as hand and leg point massage. I was particularly impressed by the extraction process as my therapist did an excellent job of clearing most of my white heads. Before extraction, my therapist administered a Pore Refining Treatment through the application of a comedone softening essence to dislodge stubborn blackheads and whiteheads for a clean and thorough extraction. Practically all the bumps along the sides of my face were gone immediately after the facial.

After extraction, the PTF Plus machine was used to soothe the redness and brighten up my skin. The treatment was quick and comfortable, with pulses of light delivering mild heat to the surface of my skin.

A cold hydrating mask was then applied at the end of the treatment to further soothe any redness and boost my skin’s hydration level. I have dehydrated skin that is oily at the surface, hence the therapist also recommended that I stick to water-based moisturizers.

Finally, here’s how my bare skin without any make-up after the treatment. I was initially afraid that my skin would end up looking red and inflamed  after the treatment, but as you can see, all my worries were in vain. There was a natural glow and radiance to my skin and the pigmentation on my cheek bones appeared to have lightened as well.

Most of the whiteheads were gone, leaving me with smooth, supple and healthy skin. It has been more than a week since my treatment, but my skin is still glowing and free from bumps.

Here’s a close-up before and after comparison for your reference.
