Beauty: Skin Shape Club Skin Shaper Plus Facial Review

May 14, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

Constant traveling and my hectic city lifestyle are reasons why my skin looks the way it does these days – dull and dehydrated. I am usually very diligent when it comes to exfoliating and masking the minute I get back to Singapore, but there are times when masks just don’t cut it anymore and a facial is required for that immediate pick-me-up.
My main gripe about facials is that a thorough treatment typically sets me back by about two to three hours on average, making it difficult for busy bees like you and me to indulge in these treatments regularly. Not many of us have the luxury of time, hence when I discovered Skin Shape Club which offers facial treatments that only take between 30 minutes to 1 hour per session, I knew I found a gem.
Located in the heart of town in Orchard Central, Skin Shape Club was established in April 2015 as a boutique wellness club to allow members to learn more about beauty and wellness, as well as to receive clinically-proven skin and slimming treatments to keep you looking great all year round.
Skin Shape Club has an in-house R&D team that works with doctors and dermal experts both locally and overseas to design treatments and programs that can be done daily, weekly and monthly. Skin Shape Club is also acutely aware that most ladies already have a basic skincare routine, hence a range of skincare boosters was exclusively developed to suit your lifestyle and complement your existing skincare products. This series of skin essence is able to address any skin issues (e.g. clogged pores, pigmentation, wrinkles and dark eye circles) that you currently encounter and can be easily incorporated into your regular skincare regimen.

As the treatment
duration is between 30 minutes to 1 hour, it suits my busy lifestyle and
I love how I can just pop in during lunch and return to the office with
glowing skin.
Whatever your concerns may be, be it wrinkles, acne or pigmentation, you can be assured that Skin Shape Club’s Skin Shaper Plus Program will deliver noticeable results without any downtime. Here’s what you can expect from the Skin Shaper Plus Program:
  • No downtime
  • Gentle treatments
  • Discreet as there are no side-effects
  • Fast treatments

The Skin Shaper Plus Facial combines light and heat energy with Skin Shape Club’s signature serum-infused facial massage to achieve younger looking skin.
LHE technology (Light & Heat Energy) helps to promote skin rejuvenation, collagen regeneration and combat acne conditions. The diagrams below show how it works:

I had just returned from a week-long work trip on my first visit to Skin Shape Club and I desperately needed to revive my dull-looking skin. In the photo below, you can tell that my skin was really dull, which makes me look much darker than I usually am.

It may not be very apparent from this photo but I have rather severe pigmentation on my upper cheeks as well, hence I was also hoping that the LHE Technology would be able to lighten these marks.

How does LHE differ from similar light based treatments such as IPL?

Unlike IPL, which can burn the skin and thus requires the use of cooling gel, LHE uses lower energy frequency as it combines two energies (light and heat) to give you optimal results with greater comfort and safety. It is suitable for most skin types and skin tones, but those with very dark skin would need to undergo a consultation process prior to the treatment so that the therapist can adjust the settings of the machine to suit your skin tone.

Cleansing and exfoliating are integral steps before treatment begins as impurities are removed to allow the light heat energy to better penetrate into your skin. The LHE applicator is then placed onto your skin (including your eye area) where pulses of light will be administered. A slightly warm sensation is felt as the pulses of light and heat penetrate deep into your skin. The treatment is very gentle and comfortable, without the shocking rubber-snapping sensation that you would expect from a typical IPL treatment.

After the LHE treatment, your skin is all prepared to absorb skin-loving nutrients. This is the best time for Skin Shape Club’s signature facial massage followed by a mask.
Although the entire process took only about 50 minutes, it was truly a relaxing and pampering experience as the therapist gently soothed my tense facial muscles. Before long, I was lulled into a deep slumber.

I wasn’t expecting immediate results as 6-12 weekly sessions are usually required, hence I was pleasantly surprised to see a significant difference in my skin tone after just one session. Can you tell that my skin is more radiant and much brighter than before? I literally woke up to beautiful skin.
Here’s a side-by-side comparison of my skin before treatment, after my first session and after my second session at Skin Shape Club, taken in the same treatment room under the same lighting. To say that I was amazed by the results is an understatement. I could hardly believe my eyes, but pictures don’t lie. I became two shades fairer, my pores have become more refined and the pigmentation on my upper cheek has lightened tremendously.  The treatment does work wonders!

(L-R): Before treatment, After 1st session, After 2nd session
I was advised to avoid sun exposure and oily/alcohol based products for 48 hours after treatment. It is important to apply sunblock religiously too.

And if you were wondering if there are any side-effects, the answer is no, so you can head back to office or even go to a party right after. A small percentage of individuals may experience slight redness immediately after the treatment but this would only last for a couple of hours.

Beyond its effective treatments, what I really love about Skin Shape Club is that its services extend beyond just facial or slimming treatments. If you have some time to spare, you can always feel free to have a snack, sip some tea or simply relax and read a magazine in their exclusive members-only lounge.

Healthy light snacks are specially prepared for you in the lounge after each treatment. I have been there twice thus far and on both occasions, the food was so delicious I had to have two servings.

I don’t usually find myself looking forward to facial treatments but as I am writing this, I am eagerly anticipating my next treatment session at Skin Shape Club.
If you are concerned about wrinkles, dull skin, enlarged pores, pigmentation or all of the above, perhaps you could consider the Skin Shaper Plus Facial at Skin Shape Club too.

4 Complimentary weekly sessions of Skin Shaper Facial worth S$480

For busy professionals like you and me who are always in a rush for time, you might want to try out Skin Shaper Facial instead. This is a 30 minute facial that includes LHE treatment without Skin Shape Club’s signature massage. And honestly, there’s no better time than now to try out this facial because you can click here to redeem a package of 4 Skin Shaper Facial sessions absolutely free from SampleStore!

Upgrade to Skin Shaper Plus Facial (includes signature serum-infused massage) – worth S$680

For a more indulgent and pampering experience, you can also upgrade all 4 complimentary sessions to Skin Shaper Plus facials at a flat-fee of S$28!

Skin Shaper Plus facials include Skin Shape Club’s signature massage (i.e. the same treatment that I did). The duration of this treatment is 50 minutes.

To upgrade your redemption, simply quote “RC-SSC” when you book your appointment with Skin Shape Club.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunblock Review

May 2, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

Did you know that my very first sunblock was from Neutrogena? I used to be rather dark-skinned during my teenage years as a result of constant sun exposure from physical education classes. Believe it or not, nobody believed that I was Chinese then. Out of vanity (I had no concept of sun protection or skin cancer then), I turned to Neutrogena’s whitening suncare. I remember it was slightly greasy but still relatively lightweight compared to its contemporaries, hence I started using it religiously on my face. Looking back, it was one of the best things that I did for my skin because not only was I able to protect my skin from harmful UV rays that could have resulted in premature ageing, it also helped my skin to regain its fairness.
Fast forward to about two decades later, Neutrogena has made remarkable improvements to its suncare range to cater to our humid climate and skin concerns. For instance, its Ultra Sheer Sunblock range has everything that I wish for in a sunscreen:

  • Invisible, weightless feel on the skin
  • Non-greasy, matte finish
  • Doesn’t clog pores as it is PABA free and non-comedogenic
  • Superior broad spectrum protection against skin-aging UVA and skin-burning UVB rays thanks to its Helioplex Technology.  Here’s why it is important to have protection against both UVA & UVB rays:

    Helioplex® Technology

What exactly is Helioplex Technology?
Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Sunblock products are formulated using chemical filters as they are known to provide more coverage against UVA and UVB rays than physical sunblock.

One of the most powerful FDA-approved chemical filters for protection against UVA is Avobenzone, but it is highly unstable under sunlight. Neutrogena was among the first in the US market to stabilize this filter by adding Oxybenzone and DEHN. This breakthrough technology was named Helioplex.

Not all sunblocks are created equal and there is a sunblock for every occasion. In today’s post, I will be reviewing not one but two Ultra Sheer Sunblock products that are perfect for Singapore’s climate.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 50+ PA+++

I used to only apply sunblock on my body when I am at the beach, but given the blazing sun and unforgiving temperatures of late, I have started using body sunblock on a daily basis.

As its name suggests, the Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock feels ultra-light and has a non-shiny finish. Besides providing broad spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays, it is also waterproof, sweat-proof and rub-proof, making it the perfect body sunblock for our humid climate. You can use it for sports and outdoor activities too.

For optimal results, apply it liberally on your body 15-30 minutes before sun exposure. Again, I know many of us are lazy when it comes to re-application, but I cannot stress the importance of re-applying your sunblock every few hours, especially after water sports, sweating, towel drying or if you are exposed to the sun for an extended period of time.

This sunblock has a creamy consistency and a light floral scent that is reminiscent of a body moisturizer. It spreads easily and glides on like a dream, leaving a sheer, matte powdery finish on my skin without any greasy after-feel.

I am in love with Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock’s non-oily formula as it provides a veil of high sun protection (SPF50+++) without that icky sticky feeling.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Complete UV Waterlight Lotion SPF 50+ PA+++

In a country like Singapore where we experience high humidity and year-round summer temperatures, the last thing we would want to do is to slather thick, greasy sunblock on our faces. In fact, I have many friends who choose not to apply sunblock on their faces for this very reason despite knowing that they are putting their skin at risk.
If you have similar concerns, you may want to give Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Complete UV Waterlight Lotion a go. Shake the bottle well before applying the sunblock to your face and body at least 15-30 minutes before heading out under the sun.

Formulated with Helioplex and Dry-Touch technology, its fluid, non-oily and non-sticky texture absorbs readily into my skin and dries to a sheer finish. It also feels absolutely featherlight, just like an oil-free moisturizer. It adds a slight glow to my face, but if you prefer a matte appearance, there’s nothing that a little loose powder can’t fix.

If you love the convenience of multi-tasking skincare products, you’ll be happy to know that this sunblock also doubles up as a makeup base. As I typically reserve foundations for special occasions, I would usually just add a light dust of blusher on top of my sunblock and off I go to face the world.
Powerful sun protection, non-greasy after feel and non-shiny finish – these three attributes pretty much sum up Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Sunblock series in a nutshell. I would highly recommend this series especially if you’re based in hot and humid countries like Singapore.

Celebrating Mother's Day with Noelgifts

April 30, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and there would be no better way to celebrate this special day with your mum than to pamper her with a thoughtful gift, isn’t it?

If you’re wondering what to get for your mum this Mother’s Day, you might just find the perfect gift at Noelgifts.

Importance of Gifting & Celebrating Mother’s Day

My mum and I may
be poles apart in terms of personality and character, but our love for
each other (and our common love for shopping!) transcends all boundaries
and binds us together.

 Life hasn’t been a
bed of roses for her as she strives to juggle both work and family,
often taking it upon herself and staying up late to complete her
household responsibilities despite having to work the next day.
Nonetheless, she has always been a fighter even in the face of
challenges. She is our pillar of strength and she alone has kept
the family together in hard times and adversity. That is why I always make it a
point to celebrate Mother’s Day with my mum and family to express our
gratitude and appreciation for the most special woman in our lives.
A cozy celebration at our favourite restaurant is never complete without a surprise gift at the end of the meal. To be able to put a smile on my mum’s face and see her eyes light up when she receives a gift she adores truly warms my heart and every year, I crack my brains thinking about what would make a good gift.
Why Noelgifts?

I was pleasantly surprised by Noelgifts’ plethora of gift options for Mother’s Day. This year, they have gone one step further by bundling their gorgeous floral bouquets with practical gifts ranging from spa treats, hand creams, perfumes, cakes, organic tea, nourishing tonics to even jewellery!

There’s something for every mum, whatever tickles her fancy.

Thanks to Noelgifts, I can now spring a surprise on my mum this Mother’s Day with the click of a button, regardless of where I may be.

This is such an ingenious idea as it makes gift shopping not only thoughtful, but quick, convenient and absolutely fuss-free too!

Which gift am I picking for my mum?

My mum has a soft spot for jewellery, clothes and hand creams. As I just bought her a necklace for her birthday recently, I figured the Playful Elegance Gift Set which comes with a lovely bouquet accompanied by Crabtree & Evelyn’s Pear and Pink Magnolia hand cream (100ml) and bath gel (250ml) would be a good gift for her this Mother’s Day. My mum has been
advocating the use of hand creams since I was in my teens and thanks to
her golden words of wisdom, my hands have gotten smoother and
softer over the years.
 I’m sure the
flowers in this gift set would perk up her day at the office, plus she can easily pop
this handy hand cream into her handbag and keep her hands hydrated
throughout the day!

Here’s wishing my dear mum and all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day in advance!

Fashion Fridays: Layering with Ponchos by Freja Designs

April 24, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

In today’s Fashion Fridays post, I will be sharing more about layering with ponchos from Freja Designs. Yes, layering is possible even in our hot and humid climate!
I’m not sure about you, but I am always undecided about whether I should bring out a cardigan or a jacket to keep myself warm because I could be feeling unbearably hot at one point and in the blink of an eye, be completely frozen when I enter a mall. In Singapore, it
may be blazing hot when you step outdoors, but the minute you step into a
shopping mall, the temperature dips drastically as you are greeted by
cool air blasting from the air-conditioners. Don’t even get me started
on the cinemas.
Ponchos, like this one from Freja Designs are a wonderful alternative. Freja Designs is a Swedish fashion brand that is currently found in hotels such as Fullerton Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel and Conrad Hotel. Made of 100% Rayon, their ponchos are incredibly lightweight and versatile. You can layer it over a dress like I did, or if you prefer a more casual look, layer it over a top and wear it out with shorts instead.

While I wouldn’t say that a poncho like this could keep you extremely warm, it does provide some degree of warmth and coverage. Better yet, it adds interest to your outfit and makes a statement. Just look at how my simple white dress has transformed.
It is amazing how a poncho could make a difference to your entire outfit. I can foresee myself bringing this along for my overseas trips too as it is completely crease-free. In fact, this would make the perfect beach cover-up too!

Let’s Build Singapore in 2065 – #BuildSG2065

April 22, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

Singapore has come a long way since it achieved independence 50 years ago. We have a beautiful garden city, a democratic and multi-racial society, and a safe and secure country where everyone lives in harmony. Most importantly, we have a place that we are all proud to call home.

As we celebrate SG50 this year, let’s take one step further and let our imagination run wild as we envision Singapore 50 years down the road.
What will Singapore look like in 2065?
What do you hope to see in Singapore in 2065?
The Straits Times and CapitaLand are calling out to all Singaporeans to submit your ideas here . A total of 50 attractive prizes are to be won, including the top 3 prizes below:

Your ideas can be submitted in the form of videos, images and text. Remember, the only limit is your imagination, so let your creative juices flow and think out of the box. Who knows? You might just be a winner!
Your ideas should fall under one of these topics:
  • Go Green
  • Smart Spaces
  • Space-Age Kampungs
  • Weatherproof World

What about me? What do I hope to see in Singapore in 2065?

I’ve always thought that it would be amazing if we could incorporate augmented reality into multi-tasking wearable gadgets or electronic devices found in our home.

For instance, by wearing something as simple as a watch, you can get an instant health scan and get a rundown of your current health condition, the types of food that you should avoid and what you should do to prevent yourself from falling ill.

How about a smart refridgerator that keeps stock of everything that you have in the fridge, keeps track of your likes and dislikes and automatically replenishes your groceries based on your preferences? I have always found grocery shopping a chore, hence I’ll be eternally grateful if such technological advancements come our way!

And you know how women have bursting wardrobes but are always complaining that they have nothing to wear? I have come to realize that these feelings arise because our crammed-to-death wardrobes make it difficult for us to see what we have at a glance, and it takes even more effort for us to mix and match clothes, bags and accessories to put together a decent outfit.

Now, what if you have a smart wardrobe that catalogs every single item in your wardrobe and project it on a screen whenever you open up your wardrobe, along with styling and make-up recommendations based on not only the occasion that you’re dressing up for, but your current mood as well? As it is, I am already rubbing my hands in glee at the thought of it!

What other ideas do you have?

The deadline for the contest is 30 April 2015, so keep your ideas coming and submit them at http://buildsg2065.straitstimes.com!

Healthy Hair with Beijing 101 (Giveaway Included!)

April 8, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments
To have healthy hair, you first need to have a healthy scalp. I can attest to
this from experience. I used to have sensitive scalp that itches from
time to time, but after regular scalp treatments over time and through
the use of suitable hair care products, this has since become a thing of
the past.
I am a firm believer of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Chinese herbs for scalp care because they truly work for me, hence when Beijing 101 invited me to their workshop at their Century Square outlet to find out more about their services, I said yes.
One common myth about hair care centres is that they are meant for the older generation, especially those with hair loss problems. Hair loss can occur at any age due to a variety of factors such as stress, changes in environment, illness, oily scalp or dandruff.
Hair care centres like Beijing 101 can help to keep your hair and scalp in the pink of health by diagnosing and treating scalp and hair problems. As we all know, prevention is always better than cure and the first step to preventing hair loss is to take good care of your scalp.
For 41 years, Beijing 101 has been solving hair problems by using treatments based on TCM principles. As Chinese herbs are able to treat the root of your hair problems and are gentle to the scalp, only premium Chinese herbs such as Dang Gui, Ginseng and He Shou Wu are used in Beijing 101’s treatments. These herbs are specially grown and harvested under highly regulated conditions. Beijing 101’s products are currently sold in over 60 countries including USA, England and Japan.
All hair care consultants at Beijing 101 are trained in TCM and are able to solve hair issues that affect both men and women. Through a detailed hair and scalp analysis, the hair care consultants are able to customize hair treatments that are tailored to your needs. You can also be assured of the quality of the treatments as a resident TCM physician can be found in every Beijing 101 outlet.
During the workshop, I was taken on a tour of the branch, where I had the opportunity to take a look at the individual consultation rooms, hair and scalp treatment areas.

VIP rooms

I was also treated to a complimentary scalp scan at the end of the tour. While scalp scans are not new to me, this was the first time that my scalp scan results actually turned out better than expected.

Look, no more clogged hair follicles! Even then, I know I can’t afford to rest on my laurels and the only way to maintain a healthy scalp is to take good care of it. I was also told to go to bed earlier at night as there was some redness in my scalp.

Beijing 101’s Herbal Scalp Treatment

Beijing 101’s Herbal Scalp Treatment helps to soothe and eliminate itchiness in your scalp while it cleanses deep within hair follicles to unclog impurities.

If you’re interested in Beijing 101’s Herbal Scalp Treatment, you can give it a try at just S$38 (UP $296).

 Win a Beijing 101 voucher worth S$188!
Thanks to Beijing 101’s generosity, 1 lucky reader will also stand to win a voucher worth S$188!

Royal Bird’s Nest & 5 Facts about Bird’s Nest

April 6, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments
If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, bird’s nest is your skin’s best friend. All you need to
do is to take a look at the porcelain skin of those who swear by bird’s
nest and have been consuming it religiously since young.
The boss of Royal Bird’s Nest, a bird’s nest specialty shop based in People’s Park Centre in Chinatown, is one such example. He has been taking bird’s nest everyday since he was a little boy. If you were to see him in person, you would certainly be in awe of his smooth, radiant and absolutely pore-less skin.
What are the benefits of consuming bird’s nest?
Traditionally
prepared as a soup, bird’s nest is rich in organic nutrients such as soluble glycoprotein, amino acids and minerals. Bird’s nest also contains “Cell Division Inducing Hormone” and an “Epithelial Growth Factor” that stimulate the growth and division of cells to enhance tissue growth, cellular regeneration and cell-mediated immunity in human beings.
If you consume bird’s nest regularly, you can be assured of fairer, younger and more radiant skin. It also strengthens your lungs, clears phlegm, and enhances your body’s immunity.
Did you know that consumption of bird’s nest during pregnancy also boosts your baby’s immune system? It also shortens your recovery time after giving birth.
I personally enjoy bird’s nest as a tonic from time to time as it is truly delicious in comparison to most traditional Chinese medicine concoctions. However, I could never quite figure out why there are so many varieties of bird’s nest in the market.
How do you tell if a particular type of bird’s nest is superior or inferior in quality?
Besides sharing more about Royal Bird’s Nest, I will also be highlighting 5 lesser known facts about bird’s nest that would give you tips on selecting and cooking bird’s nest to reap its optimal health benefits. Royal Bird’s Nest has also kindly extended exclusive discounts to all my lovely readers, so do read on till the end of this post to find out more.

Background of Royal Bird’s Nest
Royal Bird’s Nest specializes in 100% genuine bird’s nest without harmful chemicals, artificial colouring or preservatives.
No bleaching agents are used in the process of cleaning. To ensure that its bird’s nest is safe for consumption, Royal Bird’s Nest developed a state-of-the-art cleaning technology that uses tiny bubbles in water to release explosive energy. This energy, coupled with reactive oxygen, exterminates pollutants such as E.Coli, Fungi, Nitrate and Nitrite in bird’s nest without compromising its nutritional value.
Quality is assured as Royal Bird’s Nest oversees the entire value chain process in-house, beginning with harvesting, followed by cleaning, quality control and ending with packaging.
Royal Bird’s Nest believes in bringing bird’s nest to the masses by selling them at wholesale prices. Besides premium bird’s nest packed in transparent boxes which are perfect as gifts or even for personal consumption, it also serves pocket-friendly freshly brewed bird’s nest soup in four different flavours.
Too busy to brew a bowl of bird’s nest at home? Now, you can pop by Royal Bird’s Nest for a quick fix!
We were treated to the Rock Sugar, Ginseng and Osmanthus varieties. Priced at just S$12 a bowl, each flavour came along with its own distinctive taste to cater to varying preferences.
Karen and I generally have a soft spot for bird’s nest with rock sugar, hence that was our personal favourite at Royal Bird’s Nest.
For a more concentrated concoction, order their premium bird’s nest soup, priced at S$68. If you are too busy to drop by the shop, you can make arrangements to have your bird’s nest soup delivered right to your doorstep one day in advance. How very convenient!
Meant to be shared among 2-3 pax, the premium bird’s nest soup packs a punch as every spoonful delivers generous portions of nourishing bird’s nest. While it is best to consume bird’s nest when it is freshly brewed, you can still enjoy this bowl of bird’s nest goodness 5-6 days down the road as long as it is stored in the refrigerator.

As we indulged in servings after servings of delectable bird’s nest soup, questions about how to go about choosing and cooking the best bird’s nest for consumption began to fill our minds.
We had a very informative Q&A session with the boss of Royal Bird’s Nest, who patiently answered each and every question as candidly as he could to satisfy our curiosity. He took our breaths away with his candour as he debunked several myths about bird’s nest and shared invaluable insights with us, no holds barred.
I thought it would be useful to share these nuggets of information with you, so I have compiled 5 facts about bird’s nest that you probably never knew!
FACT #1:
Blood Bird’s Nest is NOT superior in quality

Blood Bird’s Nest, commonly known as 血燕 sports a reddish brown hue (far left in photo below) and is known to be a delicacy that is rich in nutrition as it is said to be produced by mother birds who rebuilt the nests many times till their saliva becomes blood. Contrary to popular belief, the reddish brown colour is typically due to the accumulation of swallow faeces, which does not translate to higher nutritional value.
(L-R) Fake Blood Bird’s Nest, Cave Bird’s Nest and House Bird’s Nest
In many cases, swallow breeders have also resorted to dyeing the bird’s nest or adding nitrites to create blood bird’s nest. Due to the potential health threats posed, the sale of blood bird’s nest has already been banned in China.
FACT #2:
There is NO difference in nutritional value between House Bird’s Nest and Cave Bird’s Nest
I was told by friends who buy bird’s nest frequently that cave bird’s nest is superior to house bird’s nest. If you were to step into a bird’s nest shop, you will realize that cave bird’s nest fetches a higher price as well. The main reason is because cave bird’s nest are produced by wild swiftlets and are thus considered to be more valuable.
The truth of the matter is, the higher price takes into account the danger harvesters face when harvesting cave bird’s nest and such bird’s nest typically contain more foreign materials such as feathers and twigs. It is also more susceptible to heavy metal contamination due to external environment factors.
Given all the potential risks and higher price point, it is probably best to stick to house bird’s nest since there isn’t any difference in terms of nutritional value between the two.
FACT #3:
Beautifully Molded Bird’s Nest and Bird’s Nest Strips have the same nutritional value
Most of the bird’s nest that we come across in shops come in a beautiful concave shape, as pictured below.
If you thought the shape is completely natural, sorry to burst your bubble. This shape is actually molded to perfection using a plastic mold.
Before they are molded, bird’s nest comes in strips. If you are less concerned about presentation or if you are buying for personal consumption, bird’s nest strips are just as good and are likely to be more attractively priced too.

FACT #4:
White Bird’s Nest is better than Yellow Bird’s Nest
Yellow bird’s nest is widely popular due to its gorgeous colour, but did you know that it belongs to an older harvest? Yellow bird’s nest are usually harvested after more than 4 -6 months and the colour is usually caused by fermentation or oxidation. The cooking process is also longer as it is much harder.
Fresh bird’s nest is white in colour. As bird’s nest is best taken fresh, white bird’s nest is more nutritious and beneficial for your body!
FACT #5:
Never boil your bird’s nest beyond a temperature of 120 Degrees Celsius as the nutritional value would be lost
Cooking bird’s nest is an art in itself. The first step is to soak the bird’s nest in water for 2 hours before double boiling. Double boiling is an integral step to preserve the essence and nutrients. Do take precautions to ensure that temperature does not go beyond 120 Degrees Celsius as this will cause the nutritional value of the bird’s nest to be compromised.

Now you know what to look out for when you go bird’s nest shopping! I hope you found these 5 facts about Bird’s Nest useful.

Appearance aside, Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Femme and Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Homme both personify the heady, seductive and thrilling original Gucci Guilty scents. These new limited edition fragrances encapsulate the electrifying chemistry
between the stars of Gucci Guilty’s campaigns: actors Evan Rachel Wood
and Chris Evans. The Gucci
Guilty Diamond symbolizes the intense passion and romance that the couple shares.
Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Femme boasts an oriental floral scent which opens with a hint of pink pepper before progressing to middle notes of lilac and cardamon. Feminine yet seductive, the scent closes with a delightful amber scent coupled with an evocative dose of patchouli that is set to entice and enthrall.
Gucci Guilty Diamond Pour Homme is just as invigorating and refreshing a scent, tantalizing your senses with citrus top notes of Italian lemon and mandarin, crushed green leaves and pink pepper. Soothing lavender notes are central to the scent, complete with a touch of coriander, orange flower and neroli. This rich, sexy scent is bound to drive the ladies wild as cedar and patchouli base notes add that extra hint of masculine appeal.

BodyPerfect Slimming Treatment Review

March 3, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

Why am I endorsing slimming treatments when I’m already so slim? As slim as I may be, cellulite around my thighs and stomach is a problem that I can’t run away from.

Cellulite is the bane of most women, regardless of weight and size. You could be the slimmest and fittest woman around and still be plagued by cellulite. I’ve long heard about BodyPerfect and its award-winning treatments from SimplyHer magazine, hence my interest was piqued.

BodyPerfect provides a multi-modality slimming approach based on years of R&D for the most effective slimming solutions in the market. Many of their treatments are award-winning and backed by Singapore celebrities such as Constance Song, Joey Swee and ex-Singapore Idol contestant Olinda Cho.

Before
the actual treatment commenced, I was ushered to a consultation room to
fill up a questionnaire on my health condition and lifestyle habits.

A thorough body analysis based on my current height and weight was also done to give my consultant an in-depth understanding of what my ideal weight and fat percentage should be. BodyPerfect’s concept of slimming goes beyond weight loss measurement. Any dramatic weight loss from a single visit is usually attributed to just water loss. BodyPerfect’s treatments control fat cells by passively activating fat burn without exercise while retaining the body’s natural curves and contours. This is the reason why most clients who adhere to BodyPerfect’s treatment plans do not suffer from “yo-yo” weight fluctuations and stay satisfied with their results.

BodyPerfect is a pioneer in SpotReduction slimming. Many of us, despite not being overweight, have flabby or problematic areas that we wish to get rid of. The arms, hips and tummy are common problem areas.

Naturally, it didn’t take long for my consultant to conclude that I was underweight, but there were certain problem areas that I could do without. For a more detailed physical assessment, I was brought to the treatment room for a quick change of attire.

While I expressed
that my main concern was my tummy (I’ve lost my abs as I haven’t been
exercising as regularly as I should), my consultant expertly pointed out
that in comparison to my tummy, my upper thighs warrant more immediate
attention as they make my lower body look disproportionately larger. A look in the mirror was all it took to confirm that her assessment was entirely accurate.
After my body measurements were taken, I was introduced to my therapist who promptly began to work her magic.
The first step in SpotReduction is to blast fat cells away with LipoCavitation Technology. The machine is used in a circular motion on the area to be treated for about 15-20 minutes. There was no discomfort at all and it felt more like a gentle massage.

A stimulating massage was next on the cards to soften the fat cells and drain them away. Drifting off to slumberland proved challenging with all the kneading, squeezing and tapping as the therapist attempted to exorcize all the cellulite and banish them to oblivion. It was slightly painful but definitely tolerable.

At the end of the massage, my thighs immediately felt softer, signaling that it was time to burn off the broken down fat cells. I was covered in a thermal Infra-red ceramic wrapping system for about 20 minutes for fat burn to take place.
In the third and final step, BodyPerfect’s Fat Mobiliser System was then used to wrap around my upper thigh area. I was advised to stand up for the next 20 minutes for this part of the treatment to enhance the detox and drainage process as a result of fat burning.
The body wrap felt icy cold to the touch initially but within minutes, the unique formula that BodyPerfect uses in tandem with this treatment causes your body to start heating up to burn away the fats. This combination of hot and cold therapy purportedly helps with both inch and weight loss. I was also asked to increase my water intake and avoid soft drinks till the next day to aid in the detox process.

And now for the most important question. Did I see any results at all?
I’ll let my before and after measurements speak for themselves:

H refers to the upper thigh while M and L refer to the middle and lower thigh respectively. As you can see from the numbers above, I lost 1 inch on both my upper thighs instantaneously after just one session! Although
visible inch loss can be achieved in just one treatment, a series of
treatments is recommended for longer lasting results.
My hubby, who is my number one critique, also commented that my thighs looked slimmer, which made my legs look straighter as well. I am definitely impressed.

Samsung GALAXY ALPHA 4G+

February 26, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

The Samsung GALAXY ALPHA 4G+ is proof that good things come in small packages. Visually, it stands out from the sea of smartphones with its slim, sleek and stunning exterior. The luxurious shade of Frosted Gold exudes style and sophistication, making it the perfect fashion accessory for style mavens.
Practically speaking, it is
incredibly light, handy, and is so slim that it fits into the tiniest
clutches.  At just 6.7mm, The GALAXY ALPHA 4G+ may be Samsung’s slimmest and
most stylish phone to date, but it also packs a punch thanks to its Octa Core Processor and 4G+ LTE
Cat 6 capability. Now, I can surf the internet and stream my favourite
dramas at a much faster speed without compromising on the chic factor.
Its Ultra Power Saving Mode is very useful too as I am able to extend my remaining 10% battery life by up to 10 hours’ worth of standby time. As a result, I no longer have to carry a portable charger around with me on a daily basis. Additional features include fingerprint security,
which gives you the convenience of signing into websites such as Gmail
and Zalora as well as paying for your purchases using Paypal with the
swipe of a finger. I enjoy online shopping and this feature makes my
shopping experience absolutely fuss-free.

In my opinion, the key highlight of the Samsung GALAXY ALPHA 4G+ is its built-in 12MP Advanced Camera which comes with Fast Auto Focus to capture action shots, Selective Focus for shallow depth-of-field (i.e. sharp subject and blurred background) and Real Time HDR to preserve the light and colours to achieve life-like photos. If you enjoy taking photos, you will definitely love this phone.

Here are some unedited photos that I took with the Samsung GALAXY ALPHA 4G+. I was truly impressed by the photo quality as it certainly rivals that of my DSLR camera.

Pretty amazing, isn’t it? Perhaps it is about time for my bulky DSLR camera to take a backseat now.

The Samsung GALAXY ALPHA 4G+ is currently retailing at S$848 at all Samsung Experience Stores. Other than Frosted Gold, it also comes in Dazzling White and Charcoal Black.
