Getting my Ice-Cream Fix at Moments of Delight

July 1, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments
Who doesn’t love a
cold, icy treat on a balmy (and hazy!) day in Singapore? Better yet if
you’re getting freshly made, preservative-free ice-cream from Moments of
Delight!

Moments of Delight is a local ice-cream parlour that specializes in home-made ice-cream and sorbets. I visited their Bedok Point outlet some time back and had the good fortune of meeting up with Stephanie, the owner of the esteemed establishment.

A chat with Stephanie revealed that unlike most ice-cream parlours which offer artificially-enhanced and preservative-laden flavours, Moments of Delight uses only the freshest ingredients and fruits to achieve the natural goodness of their delectable ice-cream flavours.

Thanks to their healthier concoctions, Moments of Delight was awarded for their fine culinary skill by the Singapore Food Map.

Besides the usual suspects like vanilla, strawberry and chocolate, Moments of Delight also offers a myriad of unique flavours that are hot favourites among customers.  Some of the popular flavours include sea salt caramel (I LOVE this!), nutella with
hazelnut and marshmallow and milo.

If you love a dash of alcohol in
your ice-cream, the rum and raisin here is a definite must-try as the
taste of rum fills your mouth with every bite.

 I brought JW
along with me for the ice-cream tasting and we ordered a doublescoop of
salted caramel ice-cream and milo ice-cream.
Rich, creamy and
tasty, the salted caramel flavour departs from its conventionally sweet
counterparts and strikes the perfect balance between sweet and savoury.
The taste is exquisite and it’s my favourite out of the lot!
The milo ice-cream is devilishly yummy too. The velvety, silky smooth texture makes this a delight to savour. Absolutely decadent.

Next up on the menu was waffles with ice-cream. JW and I decided on a double scoop of nutella with hazelnut and marshmallows as well as vanilla.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I adore the waffles. Light and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, this is the perfect comfort food to indulge in on a hot day. I am not exaggerating when I say this is beyond divine!

The rich, chocolatey goodness of the nutella ice-cream complemented the milky vanilla ice-cream very well. Personally, I think this is the best ice-cream pairing ever.

However, you may wish to note that some waiting time is required as there is only one waffle machine at the outlet. But good things are worth waiting for, and I can assure you that this waffle is certainly worth the wait.

If you like sorbets, you would be pleased to know that Moments of Delight offers tantalizing sorbet varieties as well. I particularly love the lime and mango sorbets, which are great for refreshing your palate and beating the heat.

As you can tell from the menu, Moments of Delight also serves up a bevy of reasonably priced beverages and pastries to satisfy everyone’s palate.

I was craving for a cool, fizzy drink to quench my thirst that day, hence I went for the Ribena soda, which is essentially Ribena mixed with soda water. It was refreshing without being overwhelmingly sweet, just what I needed.

JW opted for the cafe latte, his go-to drink at any time of the day.

Delicious ice-cream and yummy drinks aside, I love the non-pretentious and cozy vibe that Moments of Delight exudes. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere makes it an ideal place for intimate conversations with friends.
I will definitely be back with my friends for more waffles and ice-cream!

A Touch of Gatsby with Especially Escada

June 19, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments

Inspired by the spontaneity, optimism and confidence of women today, Especially Escada is a luxurious and feminine scent created by the House of Escada.
Thanks to P&G Prestige Fragrances, I had the wonderful opportunity to try out this lovely fragrance recently. What struck me first was the elegant packaging. Housed in a gorgeous glass flacon with an iconic double E logo gold-finish lid, the perfume would certainly be a beautiful addition to your vanity table.

Aesthetics aside, nothing is more memorable or evocative than a scent. A whiff is all it takes to transport you back to the past, and a whiff of Especially Escada was all it took to bring me back to the 1920s, the golden age of opulence where flamboyant drop waist flapper dresses, fancy headpieces, and dazzling sequins and pearls took center stage.
The 1920s was an era where women began to espouse freedom. They became bolder and more confident without compromising femininity and grace. It was also an exciting era of unprecedented affluence, where fashion trends took a step towards modernity while retaining some aspects of classicism, which interestingly, is a balance that the Escada brand aims to create as well.

Enhanced with intense top notes of pear and ambrette seeds, Especially Escada first starts off fresh, crisp and playful, before it slowly unveils the delicate scent of Bulgarian Rose and unfolds into a fragrance that epitomizes femininity, elegance and sophistication. The ingenious interplay of scent notes created a scent that gives you the best of both worlds with a touch of old-world, 1920s Great Gatsby glamour.
Especially Escada, in my opinion, captures the very essence of 1920s fashion and today, I would like to share with you two outfits that I would pair with this feminine scent to a roaring 20s theme party in this day and age.

1. Full Lace and Scalloped Hems

The flapper style needn’t be all about heavy sequined dresses which may add years to a lady’s age. I decided to do without the bling and opted for a full lace drop waist dress with scallop hems in a muted dusty pink shade  to add a girly vibe to the flapper style.

This alluring number is a true blue vintage dress from Dustbunny Vintage. Not only do vintage dresses have a lot more character, being able to own a piece of history from a bygone era like the 1920s also gives you insights into the excellent workmanship and attention to detail that is rarely replicated today.

Inspired by the lingering Bulgarian Rose notes in Especially Escada, I included rose accents in my outfits for this post. Here, I have with me a rose book clutch, which lends a whimsical touch to the outfit.
The final look is youthful, quirky yet glamourous, in line with Especially Escada’s fragrance personality.

Dress: Dustbunny Vintage
Hairband: Gift from my mum
Rose Hairclip (pinned onto my hairband): H&M
Shoes: Korean
Bangle: Hermes
2. Beads and Sparkles

Embellishments were hugely popular in the 1920s, but again, instead of going for full-on sequins or pearls, I much prefer just a sprinkle of beads and sequins all over my dress for a soft, subtle yet glamourous look.

The shorter slip dress brings out the details of the lace hems on the outer dress and makes the entire ensemble fresher and more vivacious. Can you tell that there’s a spring in my step now? πŸ˜‰

A muted shimmery gold sling bag was all it took to complete the look without stealing the limelight from the dress. Accessories were kept to a minimum to give the final look a youthful update, yet the beautiful beaded, lace details and scallop hems ensure that the true spirit of 1920s fashion is not compromised.
Dress & Bag: Ms Selfridge
Shoes: Korea
Rose clip: H&M

I hope you like the outfits that I wore to complement this gorgeous scent. Especially Escada is the perfect fragrance for the girlie girl who’s sweet, confident and romantic, with a quirky sense of humour to boot. If this sounds like you or someone you know, perhaps it’s time to head on down to the Escada counter and spritz on some perfume!

Sunnies – My Best Accessory!

June 14, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments

Sunglasses, or sunnies, are one of my most important accessories. Did you know that sun exposure not only causes pigmentation and skin problems, but also increases the risk of eye diseases, growths on the eye, cataract and eye cancer?
Wearing proper sunglasses with 100% UV protection is key to protecting our eyes from sun-related damage. It is even more crucial to wear sunnies during summer, which is the case in Singapore all year round, as the level of ultraviolet radiation is at least 3 times higher than in winter.

You may not see them very often in my fashion posts, but I wear sunnies practically all the time whenever I’m driving or outdoors. Of course, it also helps that they lend a fashionable edge to many of my outfits and protect my eyes at the same time. There are so many styles to choose from these days that you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Round frames are the hottest trend now and they are the epitome of timeless, vintage style. It has a lot of character and I love the retro vibe it adds to my wardrobe. I got my round frames from Sydney last year and I wear them very frequently.

Aviators, on the other hand are my favourite type of sunnies because it looks cool on anyone! Inspired by sunglasses that the pilots wore in the 30s, this style may be somewhat vintage but it has since become a classic style that can now be found everywhere.

I love this pair of aviators from Marc by Marc Jacobs. At a glance, it looks just like any other aviator, but on closer look, you will realize that within each lens lies a heart shape image in a darker shade. It is so quirky and unbelievably cute!

I have been thinking of getting a pair of Ray Ban aviators, and I’m very tempted to get this gorgeous Ray Ban Aviator Large Metal Sunglass from Smartbuyglasses. The pink gold gradient lens is so pretty and unique. It is on sale now and is much cheaper than the listed price in stores!
Another pair that is on my wish list currently is the Prada Baroque Sunglass.
Embellished sunglasses are so popular right now, but they can be a little over the top. I personally think that this Prada Baroque Sunglass (which is on sale too!) is a more subtle alternative without compromising style and design.

Did you know that clear lenses have the ability to block out UV rays as well? If that is the case, why are there so many tints for sunglasses?
Different tints enhance colours in different situations. Grey is the most neutral tint and is also the most natural. It has the ability to reduce glare and brightness, which makes grey sunnies suitable for driving.
I personally favour brown tints because I think they look best on me, but I do realize that they are not the best sunnies for driving, unless it is a cloudy day as they block out blue light and have the ability to brighten vision on cloudy days. However, they are great for outdoor activities as brown tints enhance contrast, especially between green and blue backgrounds (like the grass and sky).
Ultimately, which tint you choose is a personal preference. What’s most important is your comfort level. Also, remember to choose sunglasses with 100% UV protection!

The Beauty of Tiffany Blue Hues and Sweetheart Necklines

June 5, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments
Tiffany Blue is a shade of blue that is synonymous with a brand that every lady loves – Tiffany & Co., of course.

The trademark blue box in robin egg blue never fails to delight and brighten up anyone’s day.

Similarly, when a dress is made in the very shade that everyone adores, its allure and popularity soars. Instead of the typical black or jewel shade dresses, which are a dime and dozen at functions and dinner parties, why not go for an eye-catching tiffany blue dress, like this one from ClubCouture?

Tiffany Strapless Dress from ClubCouture
Clutch from Forever New
Accessories from Korea
Put a gorgeous Tiffany blue hue with a gorgeous Grecian style maxi dress, and there, you have the perfect dress to put you at the centre of attention.

The sweetheart neckline highlights the soft, gentle curves of the female silhouette as it gives the illusion that it is covering less when it is actually covering more.
Choosing the right accessories to complement the sweetheart neckline is of utmost importance as it can make or break the look. With a neckline like this, simplicity is the best policy and I would usually go without accessories.
But if you intend to amp up the glam factor for an evening function, I would suggest a simple drop necklace that draws attention to the beauty of the neckline in a subtle and elegant manner.
Alternatively, we could take a cue from the lovely Kate Hudson by giving the sweetheart necklace all the limelight and dressing up the ensemble with a pair of exquisite chandelier earrings instead.

  Which look do you prefer?
Regardless of your choice, anyone would be a stunner in a dress like this. πŸ™‚

Vanity Trove May 2013

May 13, 2013 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
Vanity Trove’s May Edition arrived at my doorstep earlier this month, and I couldn’t wait to unbox it to find out what beauty finds it had in stall for me. If you enjoy the thrill of online shopping, trust me, signing up for a monthly subscription with Vanity Trove is even more exciting because you’ll be sent a box full of surprises every month!
Here are the products that I received in this month’s Vanity Trove box:

Every Vanity Trove box comes with a handy Vanity magazine on the latest beauty trends. I was intrigued by the current nail trends in this month’s issue and found the tips on how to achieve camouflage print nails particularly interesting. Not only is it on trend, it sounds easy enough to achieve even for a noob like me.

GO60 Mask

Retail Price: $60 for 5 masks

Go60 is a lifestyle and wellness concept by Mary Chia. I like that this hydrating treatment masque can be left on overnight and it even comes with an additional flap that extends beyond your face to cover your neck as well, which I feel is very thoughtful. Most of us are usually so obsessed with our facial care regime that we often forget that our neck needs hydration too.
I love that the essence is instantly absorbed without any sticky after feel and it leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth thereafter. I like this mask so much, I’m actually contemplating buying a box of it.

Aqua Rine Japanese Aroma Bath Salt

Retail Price: S$10.80 for Peach Bath Sea Salt
and S$9.80 for Rose Bath Sea Salt

Exfoliate your dead skin cells and cleanse your skin with Aqua Rine’s Japanese aroma bath sea salt range. I’m particularly keen on trying the Peach Bath Sea Salt as it has detoxifying and anti-ageing ingredients.
Sebamed Feminine Intimate Wash
Retail Price: S$17.45

I personally think it’s very important to use feminine wash but most come in huge bottles which are a pain to lug around on overseas trips. This Sebamed feminine wash regulates female hygiene at an optimal pH level of 3.8 and comes in a convenient size for travelling. Love this!
Nuxe Melting Cleansing Gel
Retail Price: S$28

Nuxe prides itself for using rose petals in its gentle skincare range. This melting cleansing gel cleanses well and relieves tightness at the same time.
Kose Infinity Deep Protection UV

Retail Price: S$54
Kose’s Deep Protection UV, which comes with SPF 50+++, is an emulsion-like sunscreen formula that blends into your skin to achieve a clear, transparent finish. I tried it on my hand and I like that it is non-sticky and mildly hydrating. I personally think it would make a pretty good make-up base.
Lunarmer Brightener
Retail Price: S$60
Lunamer’s signature product is its Brightener, which is essentially a beauty essence that revitalizes your skin by reducing dullness. It has the highest concentration of Clear Nanovitamin E in the Lunamer series and is able to boost collagen and skin cell renewal.
I tested this on my hand too and I really liked its extremely light, watery texture. It absorbs into my skin immediately and felt absolutely featherlight, which makes it great for our humid climate. Lunamer products are exclusively available at Astalift Boutiques located at Centrepoint and Ion Orchard.
All Vanity Trove members are also entitled to redeem a free 3-piece travel sized kit at Astalift Boutiques with the Lunamer coupon in this month’s Vanity magazine.
Remember to take a peek into your Vanity magazine when you next receive your Vanity Trove box! In it, you’ll find discount or redemption coupons exclusive only to Vanity Trove members. πŸ™‚
Bach Rescue Pastilles
Retail Price: S$18.90

With the flu bug going around these days, it’s always handy to keep a packet of alcohol and sugar free lozenges to battle against a sore or itchy throat. Bach’s rescue pastilles are made from natural remedies of flower essences. You can actually taste the flower essences infused in the chewy lozenges!

Vanity Trove April Edition and Giveaway!

April 18, 2013 by Regina Chow 3 Comments
I’ve been thinking of trying out Vanity Trove for the longest time and was absolutely thrilled when Camy from Vanity Trove very kindly sent the April Edition over!
I’m sure most of you know what Vanity Trove is, but for the benefit of those who have not been introduced to its concept yet, I will give you all the details.

Vanity Trove is a subscription based platform for you to try out new beauty
products every month. Upon subscribing, you’ll receive a box chock full of various beauty
products in trial or even full size delivered right to your doorstep once a month!
I personally think that this is the best way for
testing out new products before buying the full size ones and you get to try a myriad of brands at a fraction of the cost! Honestly, what’s there not to love? πŸ™‚
Now, let’s take a look at what the April Edition of Vanity Trove offers, shall we?
April’s Edition comes complete with Elizabeth Arden’s Visible Whitening Range as well as products from popular Japanese brand Dr C: Labo.
Specially formulated for and tested on Asian skin, Elizabeth Arden’s Visible Whitening range is designed to prevent melanin production and reduce pigmentation to ensure that your skin is brighter and more radiant than before.
Visible Whitening Smoothing Cleanser
The enzymatic micro-beads in this cleanser gently removes dead surface cells and evens out your skin tone by reducing the appearance of sun spots.
Visible Whitening Melanin Control Night Capsules
If you are concerned about pigmentation, you may also wish to try out the Melanin Control Night Capsules which deliver potent natural hop extract to inhibit melanin formation at every stage as well as minimize the appearance of pigmentation. The powerful botanicals, vitamin C derivative and environmental protectants not only battle against the harmful effects of pollution, but also support the skin’s natural collagen and elastin matrix.
The end result? You’ll get brighter, smoother skin!
Visible Whitening Multi-targeted UV shield BB Cream SPF 30 PA++
We all know the importance of using sunscreen, especially in sunny Singapore. What I like about this BB cream is that it provides ample sun protection, hydrates as well as brightens your skin. The anti-aging technology also serves to prevent the appearance of discolorations and fine lines, giving you beautiful, glowing skin.
I have heard rave reviews about Dr Ci: Labo’s products, which are made of natural ingredients and are paraben free! That explains why I was especially excited to see its star product, the Aqua-Collagen-Gel, in this month’s edition of Vanity Trove.
Touted as the simplest skincare, the Aqua-Collagen-Gel sold over 23 million jars worldwide thanks to its wonderful multi-tasking capabilities. You’ll receive the benefits of 6 products (Toner, Milky lotion, Beauty essence, Facial mask, Facial cream, and Makeup base), all in just one little jar. That sure saves us a lot of time and cost!

2. Laniege White Plus Renew Trial Set

Here’s another set of whitening products to combat melanin production and block out the sun’s harmful rays!
These are the products that you will be receiving:
3. DHC Mild Lotion and DHC Collagen Pills

I’m taking DHC’s collagen powder currently and I thought I would share the love here by giving you a brand new pack of collagen pills!
4. Hair Curlers
I have been receiving queries on how I curl my hair recently, and truth be told, the secret  lies in these sponge hair curlers. The curlers are made entirely out of sponge and are pretty soft so you can actually sleep with them on. I’m giving away a set of 4 for you to try them out too! πŸ˜€
I had my hair permed in Jan 2013, but the perm is fast wearing off and these sponge curlers are the only reason why I can still achieve bouncy curls! I typically start rolling my hair with these curlers after washing my hair, when my hair is about 80-90% dry. Then, I jump into bed, drift into slumberland and when the next morning arrives, this is what my hair looks like:

Amazing right? The curls last the entire day and I don’t need any styling products at all. πŸ™‚

Now, here’s a quick recap of what you have to do to receive all these goodies:

1. Follow me @reginachow_sg on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook
(The more platforms you follow, the higher your chances!)

2. Follow @NailVibeSG on Instagram

3. Register as a user on Nailvibe.com
Remember to contact me via Facebook or e-mail me at regina.chow@gmail.com to let me know when you’ve done all of the above!
(Please note that for the purpose of this giveaway, I would have to meet up with the winner as there are too many bulky items.)

Vanilla Mood: In Her Mood

January 29, 2013 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
I’ve been so caught up with work, catching up with family and friends as well as unpacking (5 suitcases down to 1 now!) that I haven’t had time to sit down and write a proper blog post. Well, now that most of my spring cleaning is done, it’s about time I ended my little hiatus!

I’ve been very active on Instagram these days, and for those of you who follow me at reginachow_sg, you might have noticed that I recently received a beautifully wrapped parcel courtesy of Vanilla Mood.

Vanilla Mood is a sister brand of ClubCouture. If you love romantic lace and floral pieces (like me!), you’ll definitely be in for a treat, because Vanilla Mood stocks an amazing selection of sweet, feminine apparel. It is currently based in Bangkok, but if anything catches your fancy, all you have to do is to drop them an email at hello@vanillamood.me and they’ll be happy to ship it to you, wherever you are!

Lace top: Vanilla Mood
Bangle: Hermes
Bag: Loewe
Jacket: F21
Earrings: Forever New

I had a hard time taking my pick from their  In Her Mood collection because I would personally wear every single item in that collection. I eventually decided on a dainty lace top which you see here and I absolutely adore how the delicate white lace material stands out so beautifully against the black collar and sleeve trimmings.

Keeping the look simple and clean was my objective here, and what better way to do it than with a black asymmetrical faux leather skirt, my trusty Loewe bag and pumps from Australian label, Basque. Since I’ve been wearing way too much black, grey and white lately, I couldn’t resist injecting a splash of colour with a silk foral blazer from Forever 21.
The black collar, juxtaposed against the floral lapels, creates an interesting contrast and for some reason, the pairing of floral and lace always has a mood-lifting effect on me. Does it have the same effect on you? πŸ˜‰

I’ll be back soon with more backdated posts, so do watch this space! πŸ™‚

Celebrating Spring in Australia with ClubCouture

October 1, 2012 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
I received the Gabrielle beaded dress from ClubCouture not too long ago and couldn’t wait to slip into this luxurious silk woven dress.

I
love the drop waist cut and intricate gem embellishments, which add a
touch of vintage 1920s flapper glamour. At the same time, this
lovely dress is unbelievably comfortable to wear as it is cut loose to
fit like a tunic. The design is so versatile, it’ll take you from casual
luncheons to formal dinner occasions.

It
may be autumn in all other countries, but the flourishing cherry
blossoms in my backyard must be a sign that Spring is here in Australia!
Now, who said that you have to travel all the way to Japan for cherry
blossoms?
After
what seemed like eternity, I can finally slather on sunblock and walk
out on the streets in sleeveless dresses and open-toe shoes. You know
how we Singaporeans always complain about the unbearable heat in
Singapore? Well, wait till you have to wrap yourself up in layers during
winter for several months when you’re overseas. I assure you you’ll
never complain about our sunny weather again!

Did I mention that this dress would be perfect as a beach cover-up too? It comes with a tube inner slip for modesty, but if you’re heading to the beach, do away with the slip and put on this dress with a black bikini underneath! That’s exactly what I’ll do for my next beach outing. πŸ˜‰

Shoes from Shooco Holic

ClubCouture has new arrivals ever so frequently, I’m always spoiled for choice. Here are some of the items that I really like:

 Clubcouture set

(From Top to Bottom)
1) Blake Pink Leather Bag
2) Silk Floral Jumpsuit
3) Gem Pendant Gold & Vintage Rose
4) Kiss Me Platform Peep Toe Court Shoes

Clubcouture set 2

(From Top to Bottom)

1) Nikki Spiked Necklace
2) Wild Dreams Dress
3) Miami Brown Leather Handbag
4) Fancy Me Leather Lace-up Boots
Time to go shopping to chase away those Monday blues! πŸ™‚

Yes, fall is here! And to welcome the start of fall, DressAffection is having a massive sale!

Karen Millen YSL Louboutins

The Black One Shoulder Dress by Karen Millen is the perfect dress for formal dinners and parties. All you need to do is throw on a pair of statement heels paired with a glitzy clutch and there, you’re ready to paint the town red!

If you prefer something more muted and subtle, the Brown Ruffle Sleeve Dress by Prada would make an excellent choice. I actually have this in black and it is one of my staples for work. I have to admit, the light brown version tugs at my heartstrings too….
Nudes
DressAffection ships internationally too, which is good news for all my international readers!
