Why I Would Seek A Divorce

May 3, 2016 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

A wedding lasts a day, but a marriage lasts a lifetime. Or so we hope.
It takes a lifetime of work and commitment to sustain a happy marriage. Sometimes, people start to drift apart and begin to lead their own separate lives. Sometimes, certain visions, values or principles that perhaps both of you used to hold close to your heart get compromised or lost along the way. Sometimes, the love you once felt so strongly for each other gets eroded with time, and at best, you end up feeling like you are just living with a companion or a best friend. In the worst case scenario, you feel like you are now living with a stranger…uncomfortably.
Does this all sound too familiar to you? Why does this happen and when do you call it quits?
I am no marriage expert, having been married for just over 8 years, and I am not about to attempt to wreck your marriage by encouraging you to seek a divorce, which should always be the last resort.
All I wanted to do is to share my views on when and why I would seek a divorce. According to my friend who also happens to be a Singapore divorce lawyer, the lack of communication (and not sexual infidelity) is usually the root of all evil. That is why I think it is important to share your ground rules with your partner and accept each other’s value system before you even get married so that you’re on the same page.

Loss of individuality

Have you ever been so blinded by love that you would do anything that your partner asks of you? For instance, changing your dressing according to his likes and dislikes, eating the food he likes to eat, or participating in a sport that only he enjoys?
While it is good to take your partners’ likes, dislikes and interests into consideration, striking a balance is crucial as pandering to his every whim and fancy will only lead to a loss of your individual identity. We are all entitled to our own opinions, views and ideals, and I feel that if my partner is unable to understand this and accept that we have differences, therein lies a deeper problem – a lack of respect for me as an individual.
Respect is an important part of love, and if my partner doesn’t respect me, what love is there to speak of?

Different expectations

Some people think that marriage or having children is the panacea to all problems. Unfortunately, fundamental issues like a clash of expectations or values will never go away magically with a marriage certificate or a new addition to the family.
Perhaps your partner wants you to be a housewife – cook, clean and look after your children, but this doesn’t gel with your aspirations of being a career woman or an athlete who loves adventures and the great outdoors. Or perhaps you enjoy the finer things in life but your partner is contented with a simple, frugal lifestyle.
If compromises are made willingly, the marriage might work, but if either party feels coerced or forced to make changes, neither would truly be happy. If the differences are irreconcilable, they will only become more apparent over time and will drive a wedge between both parties.

No intimacy

We know that sustaining a marriage takes effort, but in our fast-paced society, we can get so engrossed with various aspects of our life like work and kids that we end up forgetting to hold our partner’s hands, give him a hug, or even ask him how his day is.
Don’t even get me started on intimacy in the bedroom. I read that men are biologically programmed to require intimacy in the bedroom in order to feel loved (also confirmed this with some friends), but it is the complete opposite for women. Making a conscious effort to go the extra mile usually does wonders for both parties. Always make time for each other, and for us ladies, sometimes it doesn’t hurt to take the initiative, if you know what I mean. 😉
Intimacy is an important aspect of any relationship as it is a special way of bonding and communicating with your other half. Without intimacy, you are no different from being just friends. If left unnoticed and unchecked, a couple could well be seriously estranged in the intimacy department. You may have heard about the 5 Languages of Love – Gifts, Quality Time, Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service and Physical Touch (Intimacy). If you find that you and your partner are just unable to connect well in the language(s) of love that mean the most to each of you even after trying, your marriage will be mundane at best.

These are just 3 signs that a marriage is going downhill and I hope that by penning them down, they will serve as a reminder not just to me, but also to everyone out there whom I care about, to prevent these scenarios from happening in your marriage.
Should I ever find myself falling into a downward spiral, I pray that I will have the strength and courage to communicate with my partner, seek help and only reach out to a divorce lawyer as a last resort.
While I am in a happy and healthy marriage currently, and of course it is our hope that we live happily ever after, I am not ruling out the possibility that people may change, when we least expect it. Because you never know.

Going Natural with ErucA Hair Care

January 15, 2016 by Regina Chow No Comments

Japanese skincare and hair care products never fail to fascinate me. The Japanese always aim to impress with exquisite packaging, unforgettable scents and quality ingredients. ErucA is yet another Japanese hair care brand that caught my eye recently. It was love at first sight, and judging from its beautiful packaging, it is not hard to see why.

ErucA Hair Care

Why ErucA?

Physical appearance aside, ErucA is keenly aware that beauty is more than skin deep. Beyond its intricate packaging, it is sulfate-free and uses only natural ingredients harnessed from 12 types of seed oils to add brilliant shine, volume and glossiness to your hair in the healthiest way possible.
Its star ingredient, broccoli seed oil, is widely referred to as ‘natural silicon’ as it imparts shine to your hair without the harmful effects of chemical silicon, which unfortunately is still being used in many hair care products today. Other key ingredients include seed oils from cowberry, bilberry and milk thistle, as well as rich botanically-sourced organic oils such as argan, virgin prune and marula oil to thoroughly cleanse, moisturize and rejuvenate our tired tresses.
There are three different product ranges to choose from depending on your hair and scalp condition. All you have to do is use the right amount of shampoo for your hair length (short hair –  about the size of a 10 cents coin, average hair length – about the size of a 50 cents coin, hair past shoulders – about the size of two 20 cents coins), lather, rinse and apply conditioner for beautiful, luscious hair!

Scalp & Volume

ErucA Scalp & Volume Range

ErucA’s Scalp & Volume range is ideal for those of you with common scalp issues and fine hair. Personally, I use this range after sports (e.g. yoga classes) to lift the dirt and perspiration from my scalp and to prevent itchiness and dandruff. Broccoli seed oil, cowberry seed oil and bilberry seed oil help to revive and restore balance while hyaluronic acid repairs and hydrates the skin on your scalp.

ErucA Scalp & Volume Mask

My head is lighter and my scalp feels much cleaner whenever I use the shampoo, conditioner and mask in this range. Unlike many scalp care products which tend to dry out your hair, ErucA leaves you with silky smooth, voluminous hair after every wash.
I also adore its sweet floral fragrance, a refreshing departure from the typical minty scents that define scalp care products.

3D Volume Up

3D Volume Up Range
For limp, fine hair, try ErucA’s 3D Volume Up range which contains a unique volumizing ingredient that wraps your hair in a thin veil to create volume from the roots without the use of any harmful chemicals. Botanical oils from broccoli seed, thistle omega-6a and cranberry seed oil moisturize and cleanse your hair and scalp without stripping natural oils.

ErucA Volume Up Foam
For an extra boost in volume, I would recommend spraying a suitable amount of ErucA’s Volume Up Foam on to your hand and running it evenly through your dry hair from the roots to the tips for an airy, voluminous finish.

Moist & Repair

Moist & Repair Range
ErucA’s Moist & Repair range is my favourite out of the three as my hair is very dry from the harsh winter conditions in China and requires utmost hydration to keep split ends at bay.

ErucA Moist & Repair Shampoo
ErucA Moist & Repair Conditioner

It lathers and cleanses well, again without stripping the natural oil from your hair. It also restores the water and oil balance in both your scalp and hair. More importantly, I know that I am in safe hands as harmful chemicals that have adverse effects on damaged hair such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate, mineral oil, alcohol and artificial colouring are omitted.
My favourite products from ErucA
I have been nourishing my tresses with the Moist & Repair shampoo and conditioner daily and I find that my hair is less frizzy, more manageable and definitely smoother, thanks to the luxurious concoction of argan oil, virgin prune oil and marula oil. I would also use the Scalp & Volume mask once or twice a week to ensure that my scalp is in tip top condition.

Before (Right) & After (Left)
To illustrate my point, I deliberately tried the products on just one side of my hair. Can you spot the difference between the texture and shine on both sides? The contrast is so stark that I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Did I also mention that it smells heavenly? My hubby hardly notices any changes in my routine but this time, he picked up the musky, sensual scent instantly.

Where can I purchase ErucA products?

If you too would like to go natural with ErucA hair products, you can find them at Guardian and Tokyu Hands branches nationwide. You can also purchase them online at Maimee’s Corner (www.maimeescorner.com). Retail prices range from S$18.90 – S$22.90.

For a limited time only, you can also click here to redeem free ErucA samples from Samplestore.com!

Kotex Luxe Ultrathin Pads Review

October 20, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

I have to admit that I am superficial, even when it comes to buying sanitary pads. I am drawn to beautiful packaging and more importantly, brands that claim to be thin yet highly absorbent, especially for overnight pads.  Kotex LUXE Ultrathin Overnight Pads (32cm) and Day Pads (24cm) stole my heart way before this review came along and I have been a loyal supporter ever since.

Most, if not all ladies experience heavier flow during the first two days of our menstrual cycle and all we want to do is to feel comfortable and dry all day long without having to worry about leakage at any point.
Don’t we all worry about leakage when we are out or when we head to bed? The Kotex LUXE Ultrathin Overnight Pad takes it upon itself to free you from leakages and give you the comfort you deserve with 3x faster absorption. It is the pad that will help you realize that overnight period leakage is never your fault and I speak entirely from experience. I use the Overnight Pad during my heavy flow days and I have nothing but praises for it.

Appearance matters. The sleek black packaging and individually wrapped pads in an array of fun vibrant colours lift up my mood instantly.  Gone are the days when you have to hide and feel ashamed of your thick, clinical-looking, diaper-lookalike pad.

The paper-thin pads also come in pretty pastel floral designs that will set your heart aflutter. Indeed, times have changed and aside from its chic packaging, here are more reasons why Kotex LUXE is a notch above the rest:
1) New Honeycomb Liquid Locker
The blue portion of the pads that you see in the pictures below is the new honeycomb liquid locker that is specially designed to absorb and lock away fluids to prevent back flow, keeping your skin dry and comfortable all day.

2) New Ultra Comfort Cover
The soft cottony surface offers intimate care for your skin to ensure that you get the best of both worlds – comfort and dryness.
In my opinion, the level of comfort and dryness is unrivaled even during heavy flow. Both the Kotex LUXE Ultrathin Overnight Pads (32cm) and Day Pads (24cm) are extremely thin and soft yet so incredibly absorbent, they do not irritate your skin and you’ll feel like you are wearing next to nothing.
3) New Surround Lock Protector
Do you see the surrounding embossed star contours? They offer additional leakage protection and security, so you’ll never have to worry again.

I applaud the Kotex LUXE Ultrathin range’s well thought through design and how it goes the extra mile to deliver both comfort and performance is highly commendable. If you have yet to try it for yourself, I strongly recommend that you do. I did, and I never looked back!

Beauty: b.liv Off With Those Heads Review (For Blackheads & Whiteheads)

July 26, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments
Is your skin prone to whiteheads and blackheads? Mine is, and I try to get them professionally extracted at a beauty salon on a regular basis. The only issue is, I don’t always have the luxury of time to indulge in a facial.
What do I do then?

I usually try to extract blackheads on my own, but whiteheads can be a real headache as they are unbelievably stubborn. Thank goodness b.liv’s Off With Those Heads found its way into my skincare regime at a friend’s recommendation. I love how effective it is when it comes to softening my whiteheads for easy extraction, hence when I was asked to review this beauty product recently, I had to say yes. You’ll find out why as you read on.
What causes blackheads and whiteheads?
Did you know that blackheads and whiteheads form as a result of excessive oil secretion and dirt accumulated in open pores?  I have naturally oily yet dehydrated skin, which is why these horrible comedones refuse to leave me alone. Controlling oil secretion is the key to preventing their formation.
How does b.liv Off With Those Heads Work?
 b.liv’s Off With
Those Heads (30ml/45ml, S$69.95/S$94.95) softens the clog in your open pores and promises to help with easy
and painless blackheads and whiteheads extraction after just 14 days of
application
.
Off With Those Heads is a beauty-salon formulation that incorporates tea tree oil (acne control + comedone control + soothing), witch hazel extract (oil control + comedone control + skin softening) and aloe vera extract (soothing + hydration). It uses a dual-action process to deeply penetrate within the skin to keep oil secretion at bay. Tea tree oil has antiseptic, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties while witch hazel extract and aloe vera extract control oil secretion, soothe and soften the skin without drying it out. This way, achieving blackheads and whiteheads-free complexion is possible without compromising on hydration.
How do you apply the product?
I use this twice daily after cleansing. All you have to do is pump 2-3 pea-sized drops onto your hand and apply to areas that are prone to blackheads and whiteheads. I like to pat in the product gently on my nose and the sides of my face. I apply it on pimples too. Give it a night and the tiny ones usually subside by the next morning. The bigger ones generally take about 2-3 days to recover.
I love how the lightweight water-based texture leaves a cooling sensation on your skin upon application and feels like next to nothing as no residue is left behind. Its minty scent is very refreshing and never fails to perk me up every morning.

Does it really work?
I always check out online reviews before I decide to purchase skincare
products. If the
reviews are positive and they include convincing before and after photos, the deal is sealed.
I wish I could show you before and after photos of my full face for better comparison, but as I’ve been using this product for many months before this review even came up, most of my whiteheads have cleared up considerably.

However, I did have a small blackhead right above my eyebrow recently. I couldn’t extract it initially but after applying Off With Those Heads, I could extract it with ease the very next day.
Here’s a before and after shot for your reference. Seeing is believing, and you can tell from the comparison below that the blackhead above my eyebrow has flattened and the skin has almost completely healed.
This product definitely works for me and I would highly recommend that you try it too if you are a victim of stubborn whiteheads and blackheads.
After all, you have nothing to lose because b.liv’s Off With Those Heads comes with 100% money back guarantee, no questions asked, within 2 weeks of purchase!
For more information on b.liv Off With Those Heads and other complementary products, do check out their website here.

Palmer's White & Even Skincare for Pigmentation Issues

June 28, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments
I am a fan of Palmer’s Cocoa Butter body moisturizer because it is one of the few body moisturizers in the market that can truly transform my dry parched skin into buttery soft, smooth skin. It wasn’t until recently that I discovered that one of my favourite bodycare brands has its very own range of facial skincare products too, and I was delighted to get my hands on them.

Palmer’s White & Even skincare range is formulated specially for those of us who are plagued by pigmentation issues such as age spots, dark spots, acne scars and sun damage. Pigmentation is usually formed when sun exposure causes melanocytes in the epidermis to overproduce melanin which then results in brown skin cells rising to the skin surface. Topical creams like the White and Even range by Palmer’s can inhibit the overproduction of melanin to prevent and treat skin discoloration.

Besides its pigment-correcting properties, what I love about this range is that it is water-based and thus suitable for our humid climate. This range is also free of parabens, phthalates, sulphates, harsh dyes, synthetic dyes and fragrances, making it suitable for all skin types.

1) Palmer’s White & Even Dark Spot Corrector ($29.90/30ml)

The White & Even Dark Spot Corrector is a serum that you can easily incorporate into your daily skincare regime. I typically apply this after toner and before moisturizer.
Palmer’s Tone Enhancing Complex and Songyi Mushrooms are the key active ingredients in this product. The Tone Enhancing Complex is a unique concoction of Cocoa Butter (smooths marks and scars), Soy (restores luminosity), Licorice (improves tone and texture), Synovea (lightens age spots and just as effective as Hydroquinone!) and Vitamin C (natural skin brightener), while the highly coveted Songyi Mushrooms are widely sought after for its ability to reduce hyperpigmentation, soothe inflammations and firm up the skin for a youthful appearance.

The lightweight non-sticky gel serum is infused with a sheer veil of shimmer and a delightful floral scent (all-natural as the product is fragrance-free). Honestly, it is almost too pretty to be used. On application, it glides on like silk and absorbs quickly, almost as if your skin is quenching its thirst, leaving a soft, pearlescent finish on your face.
If your skin can’t withstand the heaviness of traditional moisturizing, this serum doubles up as a moisturizer as well. I have been using this product as both a serum and moisturizer under sunblock. It sits well as a make-up base, even with Palmer’s CBB cream, and the subtle shimmer gives you a luminous complexion without looking like a disco ball.

After using this for 2 weeks, I noticed that my skin tone has become brighter and more even. I went for a facial recently and with the help of this product, the extraction marks on my face vanished miraculously in just 2-3 days when they usually take about 4-5 days to fully recover. This is my favourite product out of the entire range and I would recommend this as an affordable alternative to some of the bigger brands because it actually works!
For more details about the product, you can also view the video of Palmer’s Brand Ambassador, Taiwanese Celebrity, Sonia Sui,here:
2. Palmer’s White & Even Dark Circle Correcting Eye Treatment ($22.90/15ml)

Many of us, including myself, are victims of dark eye circles, which make us look more tired than we really are. To fight the signs of fatigue and reduce the appearance of dark eye circles, which is usually due to a lack of blood circulation, you may wish to give Palmer’s Dark Circle Correcting Eye Treatment a try.
Here’s what it promises to do:
  • Brighten Dark Circles and Under Eye Shadows
  • Help Improve Microcirculation (circulation of blood in the smallest vessels)
  • Reduce Puffiness
  • Firm & Lift
  • Moisturize
It achieves these 5 effects through its triple blend of Caffeine to stimulate microcirculation, Skin Nutrients to plump and moisturize the delicate skin and Sheer Luminizing Veil to brighten the shadowy under-eye area. The cooling metal tip applicator reduces puffiness and can be used to massage the eye contours to relieve tiredness.

Just like the Dark Spot Corrector, this eye correcting treatment comes with a gel texture and pearlescent finish to brighten up your eye area. The metal tip
applicator is also very handy for re-applications during the day, whenever
you feel that you need that extra pick-me-up.
A little goes a long way, so remember to squeeze out just a 5 cent coin size of gel and use the applicator to evenly distribute the product all over your eye contours, starting from inside out. Doing this in the morning when I am usually still half awake really perks me up and makes me feel absolutely refreshed.
3) Palmer’s White & Even CBB Cream Fair/Light ($22.90/30ml)

We have all heard of BB creams or CC creams. Now, what exactly is CBB cream?

CBB stands for Correcting Beauty Balm and Palmer’s CBB Cream contains a multi-functional formula that targets discoloration and spots while giving you the coverage and sun protection (SPF 15) that you need.

Here’s what this multi-tasking product does:

  • Targets discoloration
  • Provides superior moisturization
  • Protects your skin from the sun
  • Prevents discoloration from recurring
  • Provides lightweight coverage to conceal imperfections
  • Primes skin for makeup application
  • Brightens complexion
  • Improves radiance and clarity instantly
  • Reduces redness

It may have a relatively thick consistency but it blends out well and the coverage is very buildable. It is also very hydrating, which explains why you really do not need to add a moisturizer to your skincare routine with Palmer’s White and Even range.

Can you tell that the vein on the right side of my hand is less obvious than before? Palmer’s White and Even CBB cream is again formulated with their Tone Enhancing Complex, with the addition of Mineral Pigments to even out your skin tone and boost radiance, leaving you with luminous, younger-looking skin.

Did I find this skincare range effective and would I recommend it?

When you use Palmer’s White & Even skincare a daily basis, you can expect to see your skin tone lighten and become more uniform within 3-5 days. After 4-6 weeks (depending on age, health and sun exposure), your skin evens out beautifully as the products act on the deeper skin layers to inhibit overproduction of melanin.

In fact, the brightening properties of Palmer’s White & Even skincare can be seen immediately upon application. From my before (no make-up) and after (after applying White & Even Dark Spot Corrector and Dark Circle Correcting Eye Treatment) photo below, you can tell that my skin tone already looks more even and my eyes look less tired.

Now, let’s take a look at my before and after photo upon application of Palmer’s White & Even CBB Cream. No concealer, foundation, blusher or even eye make-up (except lash extensions) was used in all the photos featured in this post.

A touch of the CBB cream was all it took for the pigmentation on my upper cheeks to disappear. If you require more coverage, simply dab on an additional layer of CBB cream for clear, flawless skin.

I would recommend Palmer’s White & Even Skincare range if you have pigmentation, dark spots, acne scars or simply wish to even out your skin tone as it is very affordable and most importantly, it actually works.  After using this range for about 2 weeks, I noticed that my skin tone has become more even and the redness has subsided. I would be lying if I were to tell you that the pigmentation on my upper cheeks has disappeared, because there isn’t a miracle product like that in the market but based on the results currently, I am confident that with regular usage, it would lighten with time.

Oh, and don’t forget your sunscreen to ensure that your efforts don’t go to waste!

Head on down to Watsons, Guardian, BHG, Robinsons, John Little, Essentials    Pharmacy, Nishino Pharmacy, all leading pharmacies, departmental and cosmetic stores to get your Palmer’s White & Even skincare range!

Beauty: mdd COSMECEUTICAL Skincare Review

June 10, 2015 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

In our relentless quest for beauty, we need to be mindful not to subject our skin, which also happens to be our body’s largest organ, to harsh chemicals that actually do more harm than good. This is the reason why scent-free and paraben-free skincare always tops my list of beauty must-haves.
mdd COSMECEUTICAL skincare falls right into this category. Established over 7 years ago, mdd COSMECEUTICAL aims to create skincare products that suit the ever-changing needs of consumers today through rigorous research and development. Its skincare line is formulated without fragrance and parabens, combining Japanese cutting-edge technology with breakthrough research to ensure that active ingredients penetrate into the deepest layer of our skin to deliver optimal results.

Did you know that Stella Leung, Hong Kong celebrity make-up artist for A-mei and Jacky Cheung, is also a huge fan of MDD products and claims that the brand saved her skin?
Well, it is not hard to understand why. I have been using some of their best-selling skincare products for close to a month now, and I am in love with the brand’s fuss-free approach to achieving good skin in just one step. Now, you can happily bid farewell to the multiple serums or essences and say hello to a simple, effective routine that not only saves you time, but actually works.

1. SKIN PERFECT BRIGHTENING NANO GEL (S$68.95, 60ml)

If you desire brighter skin that glows from within, the Skin Perfect Brightening Nano Gel would be your best friend.
This all-in-one multitasking product contains the following skin-loving ingredients:
1) Vitamin C and Pearl Essence to brighten your skin
2) Seaweed Extract to keep your skin thoroughly moisturized
3) Ceramides to calm down and prevent skin irritations

I have been using this product as a moisturizer twice daily. It repairs, tones, hydrates, primes and protects your skin all at once, and is a life-saver especially when I need to rush out of the house early in the morning.
Its lightweight, gel texture makes it perfect for our humid weather as it absorbs readily into your skin and keeps it plump, hydrated and glowing all day. You may not observe the brightening effects immediately upon usage, but give it about 2 weeks and you’ll notice a brighter, more luminous complexion.
If you are prone to oil seeds (like me!), this would work well with your skin as anything too rich and creamy would lead to an onslaught of oil seeds.

2) SKIN PERFECT CC CREAM (S$31.55, 20ml)
I have tried several CC creams but most pale in comparison to mdd COSMECEUTICAL’s Skin Perfect CC Cream.
Yet another multitasking product, this CC cream is formulated with Marine Collagen and Ceramide complex and acts as a sunscreen (SPF 30), make-up base, anti-aging cream and moisturizer all rolled into one to give you perfect skin without the hassle.
I use this every morning, after the Skin Perfect Brightening Nano Gel and I absolutely adore how it provides full coverage without clogging my pores. It also does a wonderful job of smoothing out fine lines and concealing imperfections such as pigmentation, giving you flawless, air-brushed skin instantly.
I typically dab on an additional layer of CC cream on my upper cheeks to conceal my pigmentation and was pleasantly surprised when some of my friends told me that it seemed like my dark spots had vanished miraculously!

Besides its excellent coverage, I am particularly impressed by its featherlight texture. Good coverage and light, weightless textures usually do not go hand in hand, hence this CC cream is definitely a gem.
Don’t be fooled by its seemingly thick consistency when you first squeeze it out of the tube. It glides on like a dream, gives you the coverage you need and imparts a healthy glow to your skin without any sticky after-feel. This is one product that I highly recommend and would personally purchase when it runs out.

3. HYDRA-INFUSION OKINAWA MASK (S$78.95, 50ml)

Hydrating masks are my favourite as my skin is perpetually dehydrated, all thanks to late nights, frequent traveling and constant exposure to air-conditioning.
The Hydra-infusion Okinawa Mask is the latest addition to my range of hydrating/sleeping masks and I find myself reaching for it at least twice or thrice a week because it hydrates, clarifies, brightens and boosts cell renewal simultaneously, leaving me with soft dewy skin every time. I also love its ultra light gel texture and how it energizes my dull, tired skin and restores radiance.

The active ingredients include nourishing Okinawa deep-sea water and Hyaluronic Acid to lock in moisture, as well as soybean extract to effectively brighten your skin.
You can either apply a thin layer to your skin for 30 minutes and wash it off thereafter or leave it on overnight as a sleeping mask, which is my preferred method.  A little goes a long way, and I can foresee that this tub of goodness will last at least six months, even with regular usage.
OVERALL IMPRESSION OF mdd COSMECEUTICAL SKINCARE

I only recommend products that I have personally tested on my skin for an extended period of time, and this time was no exception. What are my overall thoughts on mdd COSMECEUTICAL’s skincare line? Would I recommend this brand?
It is hard to come by multitasking one-step skincare products that suit both our humid climate and our hectic lifestyle. More importantly, mdd COSMECEUTICAL products are scent-free, paraben-free and fuss-free, yet remarkably effective, hence I would highly recommend this skincare range for all the reasons that I have stated above.
After all, who doesn’t love hassle-free skincare that delivers optimal results?

Part-time Jobs & Internships in Singapore

June 7, 2015 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

What are you doing during the school holidays? It is a good time to take a break after the exams, go for a short holiday, or even take up a part-time job or internship to make full use of your time before school reopens.

Why should you take up a part-time job or internship?

Good grades may be important, but practical working experience and testimonials from past employers will set you apart from the sea of fresh graduates seeking job opportunities as our job market becomes increasingly competitive.
I remember grabbing every opportunity to take up part-time jobs and internships to build up my resume and make some extra pocket money when I was still schooling eons ago. On hindsight, I realized that besides monetary remuneration and invaluable working experience, I gained a deeper understanding of myself, my strengths and weaknesses and most importantly, what I was looking for in a career upon graduation.
It was an eye-opening experience. I learned that desk bound jobs were not my cup of tea and I really couldn’t sit down for hours on end facing a computer screen or filing documents. On the contrary, I really enjoyed marketing and sales promoter roles where I got to meet and interact with people from all walks of life. It was challenging having to deal with difficult customers from time to time, but being able to put a smile on their faces and turn things around gave me a tremendous sense of satisfaction. Fast forward to today, and yes, if you were wondering, I am currently still in customer-facing role.

What about you? Do
you know what you want to do with your life upon graduation? Some of us
do, but most of us don’t. The fastest and easiest way to get an inkling
of what you would like to do and develop the relevant skills in the process is to embark on a journey of self-discovery
through part-time jobs and internships.
What is the difference between part-time jobs and internships?
The key difference between part-time jobs for students and a Singapore internship is that the latter is generally in line with your field of study and serves to supplement your academic learning. Part-time jobs on the other hand, have less stringent requirements when it comes to hiring students from a certain field, but this doesn’t make them any less challenging or meaningful.

Through part-time jobs and internships, you will also get to assess if a particular industry or corporate culture gels with your personality and career aspirations. With a better understanding of yourself, your environment and the necessary skills required to succeed in an industry of your choice, you will certainly get a head start when it comes to securing your dream job later on.

More importantly, if you take the initiative to do well in your job, connect with your bosses and co-workers and leave them with a positive impression, be it in a part-time job or internship, there’s always a good chance that opportunities would come knocking on your door when full-time positions need to be filled.

Where should you start looking for part-time jobs and internships?
Thanks to technological advancements, information on anything and everything is readily available at the touch of your fingertips these days. A quick desktop research on “part time jobs singapore” and “internship singapore” would give you a better idea of current opportunities in the market and what potential employers are looking for.

Remember, first impressions count, so I thought I would leave you with 5 tips to secure that job/internship:

1. Customize your resume to highlight skills and experiences that are relevant to the job that you are applying for (most candidates tend to omit this critical step.)

 2. Highlight your strengths and experiences that are relevant to the job that you’ve applied for in your resume and at the interview

3. Do your due diligence on the company that you’ve applied to prior to the interview

4. Dress appropriately for the interview

5. Go in with a positive attitude. Employers are always on the lookout for people who are eager to learn and contribute.

Hope you found this post useful and here’s wishing you all the best in your job search!

Florida's Natural Juices (Giveaway Winners)

May 17, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments
I have always been a loyal fan of Florida’s Natural juices and my favourite is their Orange Juice with Most Pulp (Product of USA). Squeezed from Valencia oranges and not from concentrate, it is the next best alternative to having freshly squeezed juice.
Nothing else comes close, and naturally, I couldn’t conceal my excitement when I had the opportunity to be a part of their latest campaign, where I got to find out more about Florida’s Natural range of juices and their multiple uses through 3 challenges (hidden within the envelopes labelled A, B and C in the photo below) that were posed to me.
If you follow me on my Facebook page here, you may already have participated in my recent Florida’s Natural Juices Giveaway where the winner will receive 1-month’s supply of juices from Florida’s Natural. I asked you to choose the sequence in which I should open the envelopes which would determine the order of the challenges that I take up.
Which sequence did I pick in the end?
Who is the winner of this giveaway?
Sorry for keeping you in suspense for so long!  The winner of the giveaway will be revealed at the end of this post, but meanwhile, read on to find out more about each challenge.
Challenge B: Cooking (Orange-Sesame Noodles with Grilled Shrimp)

I started with Challenge B, a cooking challenge using Florida’s Natural Orange Juice.

Yes, that’s right. Orange Juice.

Before you start frowning at the idea, I have to tell you that I have tried using freshly squeezed orange juice to marinate shrimps previously. However, this was my first time using Florida’s Natural Orange Juice or any juice straight out of a carton for that matter as a sauce for soba noodles and I wasn’t so sure if it would taste good.
Here’s the recipe if you’re interested in recreating this dish:
Ingredients
1/4 cup fresh orange juice (I used the Most Pulp version)
3 tablespoons tamari
3 tablespoons peanut butter (I used organic unsalted peanut butter, but I think the sinful version would taste better)
2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
2 teaspoons grated orange zest
1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
10 ounce soba noodles
1 cup snow peas
1 carrot, cut into matchsticks (I used baby carrots as they’re sweeter and there’s no need to cut them up)
1.5 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined (I used ready cooked frozen shrimp for convenience)
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
Preparation
1. Combine first 7 ingredients in a large bowl to make orange juice sauce.
2. Boil noodles according to package directions. Before draining, add snow peas and carrots to cook for 30 seconds.
3. Drain pasta, peas and carrots and toss immediately with orange juice sauce. Set aside.
4. Brush shrimp with sesame oil and grill over medium-hot stove for 3-5 minutes
5. Arrange pasta on serving plate, topped with shrimps.
And here’s presenting my final dish! I was surprised that it actually tasted better than expected. It had a pleasant nutty taste accompanied by a refreshing citrus flavour. I used organic unsalted peanut butter but I have a gut feel that this would taste better with the more sinful version.

Challenge C: Flatlay (What’s on my table?)

My next pick was Challenge C, which also turned out to be the easiest challenge for me as I love flatlays. I did a flatlay of my favourite beauty products, accessories (the lovely people who packed my challenge chose this gorgeous floral wreath and floral ring for me), and not forgetting Florida’s Natural Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice.

Since we are on the topic of beauty, did you know that grapefruit juice promotes a healthy complexion and helps with weight loss too? It gives you more energy at the same time and decreases the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease too.

Now, I’m sure this gives you ample reasons to start consuming grapefruit juice! I have just started taking grapefruit juice during breakfast every morning so I always have a carton of Florida’s Natural Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice in my fridge. You should try it too!

If you prefer something a little sweeter, you could give Florida’s Natural Cranberry Ruby Red Juice a try. Cranberry juice acts as a sweetener and promotes urinary tract health too, which is perfect for us ladies.

Challenge A: Upcycling (Juice Carton Desk Organiser)

I wished the challenges were as easy as ABC (in that order), but the truth was, I was stumped by Challenge A. I was tasked to upcycle an empty carton of juice and in a nutshell, what this means is I had to make a useful product out of waste materials. I have to say it is a very meaningful task, but handicraft is definitely not one of my strengths.
Thankfully, with the help of my brother who loves art and craft, we managed to convert the juice carton into a desk organizer to store my girly stationery. As frivolous as my pens may look, don’t you agree that they’re so adorable? Looking at them brightens up my day instantly.

If you’re interested in making your own desk organiser, follow the instructions below:
What you need
 Empty juice carton
Craft knife
Hole punch
Preparation
1. Thoroughly wash and dry the interior and exterior of the juice carton. Use your craft knife to cut out an entire flap on the side of the carton.
2. Use your hole punch to punch several holes all over the flap that you cut out. Note that you have to use a hole punch that is able to create larger holes. The usual puncher does not work as well, so I used this hole punch that I purchased from Art Friend instead:
3. Use blu tack to stick the reverse side of the flap back onto the side of the carton.
Here’s a close-up of the final product:
I had a lot of fun with these creative challenges and I certainly hope this post has given you a better idea of what you can do with your Florida’s Natural juices.
And now’s the time for the big reveal.
Did you guess the sequence of my challenges correctly?
For those of you who guessed BCA, you could very well be my giveaway winner!
