Huesca: Capital City of Aragon Province in Spain

September 3, 2011 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

There are a few towns near Rodellar but we drove all the way to the capital city of Huesca for a spot of sightseeing and grocery shopping. With a population of about 50000 (but it seems we only saw a maximum of 500 people walking around LOL!!), Huesca is one of the least populated province capitals in all of Spain.
Every time I go to a city or country that I’ve never been to before, I would make it a point to visit the museum to have a better understanding of the history and culture. The Museum of Huesca is an archaeology and art museum which displays artifacts that have been discovered in the province. Unfortunately, everything is in Spanish and there are no English translations. Also, the guard was so vigilant it was quite impossible for me to take any photos.
The only person who spoke English was the staff at the Tourism centre, who was very enthusiastic about introducing us to all the places of attraction in Huesca. He also pointed us to the pedagogy museum located within the tourism centre as well as the oldest grocery shop in Spain, La Confianza.
Set up in 1871, La Confianza, which means trust in Spanish, has for sale a smorgasbord of candies, preserved fruits, meat and groceries. The shop is adorned with intricately designed shelves, antique ornaments and old school posters.

If you ever stop by Huesca, do check out La Confianza at:

Plaza del Mercado 7, Huesca. Telephone: 34-974-222-632

Amelie Anne Becky Color Block Dress

September 2, 2011 by Regina Chow 5 Comments

Amelie Anne knows that the colour blocking trend has taken this year’s runway by storm and it’s probably the simplest fashion trend to emulate. If you find the juxtaposition of primary colours too gaudy for your liking, fret not, for subtlety is possible with colour blocking too! The Becky Colour Block Dress in Persimmon Sky from Amelie Anne is a fine example of how colour blocking and subtle elegance can go hand in hand. This Jil Sander inspired dress is from Amelie Anne’s The Label Love collection and everything from this label is specially manufactured to ensure exclusivity.

I love the versatility of the Becky Colour Block Dress. There are so many different looks that you can achieve with this dress and its cutting makes it suitable for work too.

You can either wear it on its own for a clean, minimalist look or layer it with the sheer chiffon piece which comes together as a set and can be worn either over or under the dress. Here, I wore the chiffon piece under my dress.

It also doubles up as a top when you tuck it into your pencil skirt for work or into your shorts for a casual weekend lunch.;) I personally think it’s a great piece to take with you when you travel!

If sophistication and versatility are what you look out for when you shop, head on down to Amelie Anne now!

Rodellar: Hiking, Climbing, Belaying

September 1, 2011 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Hiking is the only way to enjoy the scenery in Rodellar, which is located in the northeast of Aragon province in Spain (doesn’t it remind you of Lord of the Rings?). The hiking trails are pretty treacherous by Singapore’s standards as the terrain is very steep and rocky. There are no barriers too, so if you lose your footing, off the canyon you go. Well, but I guess that adds to the thrill of it all. 😉

The amazing thing is, we came across many children who are barely 8-10 years old hiking effortlessly alongside their parents, which really put me to shame. There were many occasions when I had to go down on all fours, just like a dog, because my shoes were a tad too big for me and I was afraid of losing my balance. 😛

We made it all the way down the canyon to an area called Bikini, which is apparently the most accessible area for climbing. As most of the climbers here do not speak English, I ended up belaying JW. I think I did well considering that it was my first time after 2 years. Looks like I’m well on track to becoming his belay slave for the rest of the trip.

Besides climbing, swimming is a popular activity too. There were so many bikini clad babes and half-naked hunks walking around, it is no wonder they decided to name this place Bikini. Regardless of the type of scenery you’re looking for, rest assured that Rodellar does not disappoint on all fronts. 😉

Tomorrow is my next hiking day, and I sure am looking forward to it! 😛
