Fashion Fridays: Denim Dresses & How to Look Taller in Photos

October 3, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
Denim is a staple in every wardrobe, but the only denim I used to have in my wardrobe comes in the form of denim jeans. Call me a late bloomer, but I have only just come to realize how versatile denim dresses actually are. In today’s edition of Fashion Fridays, you will see the latest addition to my denim dress collection (I have a grand total of erm..2 denim dresses now).
Just like denim jeans, denim dresses are classic pieces that never go out of style. What’s great about denim dresses is that you can easily just throw them on and go without worrying about looking like a clown who dressed herself up in the dark. You’ll always look put together, thanks to the texture of the denim material which adds structure to your silhouette. The best part is, denim is one material that delivers comfort and durability like no other.
I honestly don’t know what took me so long to jump onto the denim dress bandwagon, but as always, it’s better late than never.

On a somewhat different note, I have been told on many occasions that I look very tall in photos. After seeing my photos on my blog, many assume that I am at least 1.7-1.8 m tall, hence they get the shock of their lives when they meet me in person for the first time, because the truth is, I am really petite, standing at only 1.6m tall.
Why do I look taller in photos?

That’s a question I get very often, but it is really a matter of just playing with body proportions, knowing what works well for your body type, photography angles and the poses that you strike.

Through some practice, I realized that I look tallest when the photographer holds the camera such that it points at the midpoint of my full height. Depending on your photographer’s height, he/she may have to bend down to capture photos at this height. The photographer also needs to ensure that the subject’s full height fits just nicely into the camera frame.
The wonderful thing about taking photos at this height is that your body proportions do not get distorted. The lack of excess space at the top and bottom of the photo also elongates your body in a proportionate manner. Most of my OOTD photos are taken from this angle, but there are times when I attempt to experiment with other angles because of various reasons.

Take these two photos below for instance, which were taken from the top-down angle.

The top-down angle may work well for selfies, but when it comes to full-length portrait shots, this angle is usually not ideal. Not only do you look disproportionate from this angle, you would also most definitely end up looking like you have short legs, regardless of your pose. Photography angles aside, I personally adore the photo composition and the backdrop of these 2 photos, hence I didn’t mind looking much shorter!
Most people tend to favour the bottom-up angle as they claim that this angle elongates their legs and thus makes them look taller than they actually are. Personally, I find this angle a little strange because your body proportions somehow still look a little out of whack (long legs with tiny head), plus you could also potentially wind up with a double chin in the process.
What about you? What’s your favourite angle for OOTDs?

I hope you enjoyed reading this post! For those of you who reside in Singapore, have a wonderful long weekend ahead!

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Skincare Range for Oily Skin

September 30, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

The Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free skincare range couldn’t have arrived at my doorstep at a better time as I recently discovered that I have oily but dehydrated skin.
Can oily skin be dry at the same time?
My skin looks oily on the surface but there are signs of flaking if I don’t moisturize adequately. Sounds contradictory? Totally not.
Those of us with oily skin tend to skip moisturizer, thinking that our skin already feels moisturized anyway. We are also afraid that our skin will look oilier after applying moisturizer. Contrary to popular belief, it is not true that people with oily skin do not need to moisturize because beneath that oily exterior, your skin may be sorely lacking in moisture (like mine), which then results in dry, flaky skin.
I have tried several skincare brands and products. Most fare well in terms of hydration but I can’t say the same when it comes to the oil control. That’s where Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free range makes a difference.
After using this skincare range for about a month, I feel that my skin feels more matte and  hydrated than before.

Moisture without the shine – isn’t that a dream come true?

1) Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser (S$43, 150ml)

What I love about Kiehl’s products it that they are paraben-free, sulphate-free, silicone-free, oil-free and fragrance-free. Hence, you have nothing to fear even if you have sensitive skin. To reduce my level of exposure to unnecessary chemicals, I generally prefer products that do not contain these ingredients as well.

A pea sized amount is all I need to create sufficient lather for the entire face. My skin feels thoroughly cleansed yet hydrated as this facial cleanser is specially formulated with Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract to retain and restore moisture, even as it removes excess oil and impurities. It also contains Lemon Fruit Extracts which have astringent and antiseptic qualities to perk up and refresh tired, sluggish skin.
I am using this cleanser on a daily basis and this is one product that I would repurchase as I really like the slightly tight, squeaky clean feeling after cleansing. I would recommend this to people with oily skin. That said, this cleanser is best paired with the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Toner to balance out the skin’s moisture level.
2) Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil Free Toner (S$43, 150ml)

This toner is alcohol-free, paraben-free, sulphate-free, silicone-free and fragrance-free. Made from Imperata Cylindrica root extract and antarcticine, a glycolprotein found in the Antartic Sea, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil Free toner gently hydrates and soothes your skin by balancing your skin’s pH level.
I use it after the facial cleanser to remove any residual impurities and I love how it leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean, without stripping it of moisture. I especially like to use this when my skin breaks out during that time of the month as it effectively double cleanses my face to remove any excess oil. I currently alternate between this and my SKII Facial Treatment Essence (which is more nourishing) depending on my skin’s condition.

3) Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream (S$48 for 50ml or S$82 for 125ml)

I love
cream-based moisturizers for their nourishing properties, but they are
usually too rich for my skin, which results in the formation of milia
seeds. Gel-based moisturizers like this one are definitely more suitable for oily skin.

The lightweight gel texture absorbs readily into my skin, giving it a dose of much-needed moisture without that rich, creamy after-feel that most moisturizers tend to impart. There is absolutely no residue after application, and I adore how silky smooth and plumped up my skin feels immediately. Most importantly, it doesn’t give me milia seeds.
What is really impressive about this moisturizer is that despite its almost feather-light  texture, it is more hydrating than most of the other gel-based moisturizers that I have tried. In fact, it feels just like an intensive serum cum moisturizer.

I would highly recommend this skincare range to anyone with oily skin. Its key strength lies in oil control without compromising on hydration, and the entire range has worked particularly well on me thus far. If you have oily skin as well, perhaps you could give this a try!

Malacca Food: What and Where to Eat

September 29, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
We were brought on a mini food
trail hosted by the lovely staff of
Julie’s Biscuit during our recent sponsored trip to Malacca and while I
can’t speak on behalf of everyone, I for one couldn’t stop munching on
the delectable delights that the vibrant city had to offer.
Malacca is a food haven, there’s no doubt about that. Give me chicken rice balls, chendol, nyonya food and durian puffs any time, any day.

Let’s start with Jonker Walk, one of the most iconic tourist attractions in Malacca. Lined with street hawkers peddling local delicacies, knick knacks, trinklets and apparels,
the street is always bustling with life. Weaving in and out of the maddening crowd is part and parcel of the entire experience, and while it can be rather exasperating at times to be stuck in a human jam, there is always something interesting
in every nook and corner, ready to enchant and captivate.

If you are a fan of pineapple tarts, be sure to stop by Madam Goh. There are more than 10 shops selling pineapple tarts along Jonker Walk, but the pineapple tarts here are by far the yummiest that I’ve tried.

Madam Goh Nyonya Pineapple Tarts House
Jonker Walk
Tel: 06-335-1561
I love that the slightly crisp outer crust is so creamy and milky, it almost melts in your mouth. And as I sink my teeth deeper into the buttery confection, I am immediately greeted by a generous dollop of pineapple filling that is sweetened to perfection.
I have a penchant for durians and I’ve heard so much about One Bite Durian Puff along Jonker Street.

Encased within a soft fluffy puff pastry, the durian filling is rich and bursting with flavour. As the name suggests, you are supposed to devour the entire puff in one bite, but it was way too huge for me. I took at least 5 bites. With every bite, I had to rotate and contort my wrist in different directions just to prevent the delicious durian filling from oozing out on to my hands.

Every bite gave me immense pleasure, so much so that I decided one durian puff was simply not enough for me. This is definitely a must-try if you are a durian fan!

Aside from street food, Malacca is also renowned for its authentic Perakanan cuisine, otherwise known as Nyonya food. We were hosted to a wonderful dinner at Restoran Nyonya Makko, one of the most established Nyonya restaurants in Malacca.

Restoran Nyonya Makko
123, Jalan Merdeka, Taman Melaka Raya, Melaka
Tel: 06-2840-737

These were just some of the dishes that we had and every dish was sumptuous. It is quite impossible to go wrong with an establishment that has been around for 27 years and before long, everyone at the table abandoned their cameras to tuck into the splendid spread of Nyonya delicacies.

I’m not sure about you, but I have a separate compartment reserved for desserts, and even as I was bursting at the seams from all the glorious food, I had to have my Chendol!
The key ingredients in Chendol include coconut milk, green jelly noodles made from rice flour, shaved ice and palm sugar. It sounds simple enough to make, but I guess the secret to a good bowl of Chendol lies in the quality and the proportions of ingredients.
If you are familiar with Malacca, you would probably have heard about their fabulous Chendol and the snaking queues at this particular stall along Jonker Walk. I personally feel that Restoran Nyonya Makko’s is just as delish.

Chicken Rice Balls are my absolute favourite, which is why I saved the best for last. The most famous chicken rice ball stall in Malacca is probably Chung Wah Chicken Rice Balls, but the massive queues can serve as a deterrent, especially when your stomach is growling.
I have little patience and I get grumpy when hunger gets the better of me, so I was really happy when the Julie’s Biscuit staff introduced us to another chicken rice ball stall that is equally yummy to satisfy my cravings.

Did you know that Ee Ji Ban Chicken Rice Ball is apparently the only halal chicken rice ball stall in Malacca?

The chicken rice balls were moist, fragrant and slightly sticky. I especially love the soft and smooth texture, which makes it incredibly easy to swallow. That probably explains why I ate up close to 20 rice balls in one seating.

The other dishes were equally mouthwatering. The chicken was juicy and succulent but in my opinion, the sambal squids took the cake. The sambal chilli was simply superb.

The abundance of good food in Malacca is such a huge draw and I can’t wait to head back to explore and discover new eating places. There is so much more that Malacca has to offer, and what I have shared in this post barely scratches the surface.
Are there any other restaurants or cafes in Malacca that you would recommend?

On The Go With Samsung GALAXY Tab S

September 25, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

I am always on the go, shuttling between the office, meetings and events. While I may not be able to meet up with my loved ones as frequently as I would like to, I am grateful that advancements in technology have allowed me to constantly stay connected with them via email or social media platforms.
For the past couple of weeks, my Samsung GALAXY Tab S has been out and about with me everyday. It is so incredibly light and slim, I can just pop it into my handbag and take it around with me wherever I go. It is now my trusty companion and I love how I can connect with the rest of the world with the swipe of a finger.

When I have pockets of time in between meetings or events, I like to catch up on my emails, read an e-book or watch my favourite drama series to make full use of my time. There are times when I prefer to sit outdoors just to get a whiff of fresh air, but I have come to realize that the screens on most tablets are very reflective, which makes it really hard for me to read what’s on the screen clearly under sunlight.
Thanks to the SUPER AMOLED display on Samsung GALAXY Tab S, this problem has become a thing of the past. Its SUPER AMOLED screen is 40% less reflective than the usual LCD screens on other tablets, so I have no issues reading my emails or e-book even when the sun is beating down on me.
In
a day and age where productivity is the buzzword, keeping myself
productive is one of my top priorities and I love how I can get things
done with my Samsung GALAXY Tab S.

Did you know that Samsung GALAXY Tab S also comes with a suite of programs to enhance your productivity on the go?
Hancom Office, which is similar to Microsoft Office, is one program that I find particularly useful for work. With Hancom Office Hword (similar to Word document) and Hcell (similar to Spreadsheet), I can read and edit all my work documents easily. I never have to worry about compatibility issues again!

Hancom Office

Another feature that I fell absolutely head over heels in love with is the Remote PC function, which allows you to sync your PC/laptop at home or at work with the Samsung GALAXY Tab S. With the tap of a button on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S, I can now gain access to all the files on my laptop or PC at home regardless of where I may be.

Remote PC Function
I upload tons of photos onto my laptop a few times a week and I always make it a point to edit my photos before publishing them on my blog. More often than not, I only have time to edit my photos on my laptop way after working hours at night as it is such a chore to carry my laptop around.

You cannot believe how thankful I
am to have my trusty Samsung GALAXY Tab S with me. I know I
have been gushing incessantly about how light the Samsung GALAXY Tab S
is, but aside from
that, it also gives me the flexibility and convenience of being able to
edit my photos on the go all the time. The long battery life is a huge
plus point too as I can rush out urgent blog posts or work with complete peace of mind.

SideSync 3.0 is yet another feature that got my attention. It actually makes me want to get myself a Samsung mobile phone.

SideSync
allows you to control your Samsung smartphone from the Galaxy Tab S, which means you can
continue to text your friends or pick up calls even if your mobile phone
is not by your side. You can also share files between both devices by
copying and pasting or dragging and dropping into the shared clipboard. Isn’t that amazing?

(Disclaimer: Compatible with
GALAXY S5 LTE and GALAXY Note 3 With LTE only. More devices to follow)

SideSync

Taking short breaks throughout the day increases my productivity as I am able to recharge, refocus my energies and keep my mind fresh. To relax, I would usually grab some nibbles or catch a movie. And that’s where Samsung GALAXY Life comes in useful.

Samsung GALAXY Life

All Samsung GALAXY Tab S users stand to enjoy an exciting array of exclusive rewards and  privileges through GALAXY Life. Thinking of grabbing a bite, catching a movie or buying mooncakes for your loved ones? GALAXY Life has got you covered.

You can easily redeem the rewards by clicking on the “Redeem It” button, after which you are given an hour to claim your reward.

Samsung GALAXY Life users are also entitled to a variety of special privileges. For instance, you could have redeemed a lucky draw code that gives you not one, but three chances to win concert tickets and rehearsal passes to the YG Family 2014 concert that took Singapore by storm!

I love everything that Samsung GALAXY Tab S has to offer. With my trusty Samsung GALAXY Tab S, higher productivity is easily attainable and that also translates to fewer late nights and more beauty sleep for me!

Fashion Fridays: Is Baby Blue the new Pink?

September 19, 2014 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

Is Baby Blue the new Pink this year?
I’ve been seeing a lot of baby blue in stores. Baby blue tops, pants, shoes, bags…you get the drift. And it isn’t a bad thing.
I love pastel colours, especially baby pink, a feminine and delicate shade which still remains one of my favourite colours to date. Baby blue, on the other hand, has the same characteristics, and more, which means the styling possibilities are endless.
There is an understated sweetness and elegance about baby blue that makes it edgy yet effortlessly chic. Baby pink can be a little too girly or overpoweringly sweet for work wear, unless it comes in the form of tailored jackets, shirts or pants. Baby blue however, takes the style factor up a notch without compromising on professionalism. In fact, this outfit that I’m sharing with you today is one of my favourite Casual Fridays ensembles for work.

Pants from Ching
Shoes from Charles & Keith
Clutch from Givenchy
Top and necklace from random stores
I have been wearing this pair of baby blue pants from Ching (Far East Plaza) more often these days. I love the unique baroque prints and there’s a slight stretch to the pants which makes it unbelievably comfortable.
These baby blue mules from Charles & Keith have also been making very frequent appearances. I like the minimalist chic design and clean simple lines. Don’t you think they resemble an Alexander Wang design?

Whenever I wear these two items together, I prefer to keep the rest of the outfit simple with a basic black or white top. The whole idea is to make the baby blue shade pop.
On days when I have after-work events to attend, I’ll throw on a statement necklace to dress up the outfit. I’ll also swop my work bag for a clutch, like this cute yet stylish piece from Givenchy.

Have you got any baby blue pieces in your wardrobe? If not, perhaps it’s about time (now that the weekend is just around the corner) to start adding a dash of baby blue to keep your wardrobe updated!
 Have a great weekend!

TruLife Ready to Drink Supplements

September 18, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

Restoring a healthy balance and rejuvenating my skin from within are two of my key priorities now that I’m well into my early 30s. Aside from exercise (hot yoga in my case), I’ve been incorporating supplements into my daily regime in a bid to maintain a healthy, energetic lifestyle and to keep my skin glowing. Thanks to Vanity Trove’s invitation, I was introduced to TruLife’s ready to drink supplements during their product launch at Willow Stream Spa recently.

TruLife is a newly launched contemporary healthcare brand by Poli Medical, an established Singapore-based company that has served the TCM needs of many Singaporeans since 1971. TruLife is acutely aware that today’s society thrives on convenience and aims to answer the health and lifestyle needs of consumers with this in mind.
Manufactured in Singapore, TruLife’s ready to drink supplements combine powerful active ingredients that are rapidly absorbed by our body for targeted results, giving us the luminous glow of health from within.

The best part is, these supplements are completely sugar-free and additive-free.

Collagen Cell Renew – For Bright & Radiant Complexion (S$56.60)

I am a huge fan of collagen drinks and most of the collagen drinks that I have tried in the past contain preservatives and added sugar. I couldn’t be happier when I
found out that one of TruLife’s latest state-of-the-art products
includes Collagen Cell Renew, a collagen drink that contains 15,000mg dosage of Micro Marine Collagen Peptides.
Collagen Cell Renew is clinically proven to increase moisture levels by 50% and decrease UV spot area by 13%. It also targets fine lines and brightens your complexion, leaving you with smooth, supple skin.
I have previously read about how difficult it is for our body to absorb collagen due to its large molecule size, hence you can imagine my delight when I was told that only low molecular weight collagen peptides of deep sea fish origin are used to enhance absorption levels and ensure that our body absorbs the highest grade of collagen available today.

I was given a box of 10 Collagen Cell Renew supplements to try at home. Having read that effects are visible after just 10 days, I drank a bottle everyday before bed. It is recommended that you take this before bed as your body is better able to absorb the nutrients to achieve optimal results.
As no sugar is added, I was half expecting the drink supplement to taste bland or in the worst case scenario, bitter. I took my first sip gingerly and to my surprise, it was just as sweet and palatable as other collagen drinks that I’ve tried. Unlike other collagen drinks, the Collagen Cell Renew has a thicker and more viscous consistency, which I believe is largely attributed to the higher concentration of collagen peptides.

Did I see any results after 10 days?
To ensure that I could make a fair assessment of the supplements, no changes were made to my daily skincare routine. Aside from pigmentation at my cheek bone area, my skin tone is pretty even thanks to my whitening skincare regime, which I have been adhering to religiously for a few years now.
While I didn’t see significant improvements in my overall skin tone, I did notice that the pigmentation around my cheek bone area seemed to have lightened and I could get away with less concealer than usual. My skin also felt firmer, softer and well-moisturized.
I am not certain as to how enduring the effects are and if further improvements can be seen if I were to take this supplement in the longer term, but the results that it achieved in just 10 days are enticing enough to make me want to buy another box!

Besides Collagen Cell Renew, we were also given a thorough introduction to the full range of TruLife’s ready to drink supplements and products by Mr Dylan Hu (Director of Poli Medical and third generation business leader) as we nibbled on delicious canapes between sips of yummy fruit-infused water.

Mr Dylan Hu, Director of Poli Medical

Yingjie, a seasoned TCM practictioner, was also present to give us tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Based on TCM theories, the key to achieving good health is to balance the Yin and Yang energies.
Yingjie, TCM Practitioner
Here are the other two ready to drink supplements that we were introduced to:
Herbal System Detox – Stay Lean with Less Effort (S$45.95)

Herbal System Detox helps to improve kidney and liver functions by stimulating regular bowel movement, thereby preventing toxin accumulation and increasing metabolism. It also enhances digestive health and reduces oil absorption after meals.
 It contains six
natural active ingredients, namely Green Tea, Lotus Leaf, Folium Sennae,
Hawthorn Fruit, Herbal Plantaginis and Cassia Seed to hasten the
detoxification process.
This supplement is perhaps your next best alternative to dieting. Not only is it flavourful, it is also completely natural, which makes it safe for consumption in the long term.

Berry EyeHealth – Brighten Eyes and Improve Visual Acuity (S$45.95)

Berry EyeHealth
aims to improve visual acuity and relieve eye fatigue to keep your eyes
bright, sparkling and healthy. Infused with high concentrations of
Wolfberry, Bilberry and other natural ingredients such as Chrysanthemum,
Dendrobium stem and Prinsepia Seed, this supplement targets common
problems such as blurred vision, cataract and even symptoms of glaucoma
too.
I intend to purchase a box of Berry EyeHealth soon as taking good care
of my eyes is one of my top priorities given that I spend the bulk of my time sitting in front of the computer on a day to day
basis. I am also genetically predisposed to myopia and am practically
blind without my contact lenses or spectacles.

We also had the opportunity to try other products under TruLife. Perosonally, I think that the Bird’s Nest Drink would make a wonderful gift to my parents or friends who are more health conscious as TruLife offers a sugar-free version of this popular tonic too.

 After
the comprehensive presentation, the evening ended on a relaxing note
with a pampering massage of our choice at Willow Stream
Spa. I chose the Keep Calm with Collagen treatment, a specially
customized Face and Neck Massage that complemented TruLife’s Collagen
Cell Renew supplements perfectly.
TruLife’s supplements are
now available at Guardian and Nishino pharmacies, as well as OG and
Robinsons department stores.

Fashion Fridays: Palm Prints

September 12, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
Other than leaf prints, palm prints are all the rage this season too. A palm print dress always puts me in a holiday mood. Summery and resort-chic, palm prints are perfect for a beach or weekend getaway.
These prints have a laid-back, relaxed vibe that make it especially enticing amidst the hustle and bustle that we are so used to in our cosmopolitan city state.

Like leaf prints, green palm prints are a refreshing change from the usual floral prints. I also like that these prints are a little more abstract, resembling splashes of colours on a white canvas instead of actual palm trees.

Dress from KissJane
Bag from Saint Laurent
Shoes from Pazzion

If you prefer something edgier, get a palm print dress in darker hues, like the dark blue one I wore here. I love how the unexpected cut-out behind this seemingly prim and proper dress adds an element of surprise.
Whenever I encounter busy prints like these, I usually prefer to go without accessories and just let the prints do the talking. In this case however, I felt that the darker colour scheme of this dress would allow me to play around with a statement necklace and my favourite gladiator heels from Sophia Webster to show you how you can easily transform a casual dress into something that’s dressy enough for formal occasions.

I thought I’ll also take the opportunity to share a tip on how to wear ankle high heels without looking like you have short legs. Ankle high heels are tricky to pull off, even if you have the slimmest legs.
The trick is to play with proportions by going for dresses or skirts with shorter hemlines to create the illusion of longer legs.
 Dress from KissJane
Shoes from Sophia Webster
Bag and Necklace from random stores
This series of photos were a result of a project that I undertook with Kissjane, and you will probably catch a glimpse of them in a publication soon.
I hope you enjoyed today’s edition of Fashion Fridays. Have a great weekend ahead!

Samsung GALAXY Tab S

September 11, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

I just got my hands on the latest Samsung GALAXY Tab S (10.5″) and I can’t begin to tell you what a world of difference it has made to my lifestyle.
Let’s start with its appearance. Don’t be fooled by its size. It is perhaps the thinnest and lightest tablet that I have ever come across, which means I can take it with me wherever I go. It is especially useful for my overseas beach holidays, where all I want to do is chill, laze around and watch a movie or two on my laptop.  Watching movies on tablets isn’t usually as enjoyable due to the size of the screen, but with Samsung GALAXY Tab S, it is a different story altogether.
I am in love with the large screen and more importantly, the Super AMOLED display. The slimness of the Samsung GALAXY Tab S is also largely attributed to the Super AMOLED Screen, which unlike an LCD screen, does not require additional filters or diffusers to create images. Super AMOLED is an emissive technology that displays direct, unimpeded colours and details.  LCD tablets generally have a 70% colour reproduction rate, but the Super AMOLED’s colours match up to 90% of Adobe®
RGB Colour Gamut. This means that whatever you see on screen is true to life. Honestly, it is such a joy to watch movies and view images on my Samsung GALAXY Tab S as everything comes alive right before my eyes. Even my hubby uses it to watch his favourite rockclimbing videos now!

It probably comes as no surprise to my readers that besides entertainment, fashion has always played an important role in my life. I enjoy browsing through
fashion magazines to keep abreast of the latest fashion trends but it is a chore
to carry several copies of these heavy magazines around.

Now, I can easily subscribe to a wide selection of magazines on my Samsung GALAXY Tab S through the SPH magazine app under GALAXY Gifts. Every user is entitled to 3 free magazine issues at the onset too!
GALAXY Gifts is the app store
equivalent on the Samsung GALAXY Tab S and you’ll get to enjoy over
$1000 worth of premium apps and services, absolutely free of charge. GALAXY Gifts is a widget that I
find particularly useful when it comes to enhancing my lifestyle and
improving my quality of life.
Can you tell how vivid the colours are? The softcopy version of the magazine looks just as good as the hardcopy, and thanks to my handy Samsung GALAXY Tab S, I can gain access to a plethora of magazines right at my fingertips.
I wasted no time in downloading the latest issue of my favourite magazine, CLEO. What I like about the SPH magazine app is that you can easily download past issues of your favourite magazines too. That way, I’ll never have to worry about missing an issue whenever I head overseas!

I’m sure we all know how heavy and cumbersome hardcopy magazines are. To illustrate my point, the September issue of CLEO which I just downloaded spans a total of 216 pages. Can you imagine having to carry that around with you?
I always carry a couple of magazines with me when I travel and the weight of my handcarry luggage is nothing short of atrocious. With my Samsung GALAXY Tab S, I can now download and read as many magazines as my heart desires without worrying about the extra weight.  Yes, my handcarry luggage can finally shed a few pounds!
 Moreover, the GALAXY Tab S
delivers excellent true-to-life image quality for your visual enjoyment
with its razor sharp clarity and unrivaled readability. I am truly impressed!
Did you know that some lifestyle and entertainment content are exclusive only to the GALAXY Tab S? The
GigOut! PLUS is one such app that caught my eye. If you are an avid
concertgoer, this is the app that you should download.
My friends and I enjoy attending concerts but keeping track of upcoming concerts and performances is no mean feat, especially when I have to juggle between work, blogging and family. There were many occasions in the past few years when I wanted to catch Jay Chou’s concert, but I was often too busy to check out the tickets and by the time I was free, they were all sold out. What a bummer!
GigOut! PLUS allows me to view all the upcoming concerts at a glance and purchase my tickets directly, so I’ll never miss another gig by my favourite artiste again!

I can also find out if any of my friends are attending this concert and rally those who are interested in attending to purchase tickets together. Don’t you love how technology makes our world smaller and so much more connected?
As a GALAXY Tab S user, I will also stand to enjoy additional perks from GigOut! PLUS. These include:
  • Special concert ticket packages and discounts
  • Exclusive Meet & Greet opportunities
  • Merchandise and F&B promotions
  • Giveaways and VIP upgrades

Samsung
GALAXY Tab S is power-packed with so many goodies and amazing features.  To find out what else it has to offer, do
stay tuned to my upcoming post!

Julie’s Biscuit Factory Tour in Malacca

Julie’s Biscuits is the brainchild of Perfect Food Manufacturing and being a fan of Julie’s Biscuits (I love the Cheese and Peanut Butter varieties!) since young, I was especially excited when I received an invitation to visit their factory in Alor Gajah, a town near Malacca.
The Julie’s brand was introduced to the Malaysian market in 1982 and has since become a household name that needs no introduction. The biscuits at Perfect Food Manufacturing are all “baked with love”, a motto that all staff abide by and are immensely proud of.
I felt the love immediately upon arrival. We were received by their warm and friendly staff who promptly whisked us off to a cozy reception area where a sumptuous feast awaited.
The desserts that you see here are made using Julie’s biscuits. They’re pretty amazing, aren’t they?

This mission of Perfect Food Manufacturing and Julie’s Biscuits is:
“We bake with love
We care for the society
We love the earth”
True to their company mission, Mr Martin Ang, General Manager of Perfect Food Manufacturing, and his team went the extra mile to ensure that we were well taken care of every step of the way.

While we chomped down on the tasty Malacca dishes thoughtfully prepared by the team, our eyes were met with a dazzling array of Julie’s biscuits on display.

I have been eating Julie’s Biscuits since young and even my dad is a huge fan of their Peanut Butter biscuits.
To my surprise, I found out that Julie’s Biscuits’ range of products extend way beyond their popular Cheese and Peanut Butter biscuits to encompass assorted biscuits and even love letters.

To give us a better understanding of Perfect Food Manufacturing and Julie’s Biscuits, we were led to the conference room where Mr Martin Ang and his team gave us a thorough introduction.

I couldn’t help but get distracted by the tantalizing biscuits that lay before me and I wasn’t alone. In fact, all of us couldn’t resist snacking on the biscuits even when our lunch had barely settled. These biscuits are just irresistible.

To date, Julie’s Biscuits are exported to more than 50 countries around the world. What is the brand’s unique selling proposition? To me, its key differentiating factor lies is the company vision and philosophy.
To quote Mr Martin Ang, they will never sell a product that they themselves would not eat. I have always believed that integrity is of utmost importance in business, even more so for consumer businesses. This succinct statement from Mr Ang really drove home the point that Perfect Food Manufacturing conducts their business with conscience in order to benefit everyone. And for that, I am truly impressed.

In a bid to contribute back to society, Julie’s Biscuits also started “The Best of You” movement. This movement strives to inspire everyone to take a break from our hectic schedules to reflect on our lives and take stock of our accomplishments.
The term accomplishments here refer to the seemingly small and often unnoticed gestures or everyday actions that reflect the best of you. These accomplishments, no matter how small they may be, are worth celebrating.
Who is the best of you?
I think everyone in my life is the best of me. I am very heartened that my husband, family, friends, boss and colleagues have always been supportive and understanding towards me and the decisions that I make. While we may have our differences, the love, trust and camaraderie that we share is something very special and irreplaceable. I am truly blessed to have all of you in my life.
Every single one of you is the best of me.

After the heartwarming sharing session, it was time for us to head to the factory for some action. Don’t we all look like surgeons?

It was my first time in a biscuit factory and the experience was truly eye-opening. We could literally feel the heat from the baking process.

At the end of the tour, we were rewarded with piping hot peanut butter biscuits fresh from the oven. You could feel the warmth of the biscuits and smell the heavenly aroma of the peanut butter through the packaging. I immediately tore open the packet and savoured the most delicious peanut butter biscuits I’ve ever had in my life.

Thank you once again to Perfect Food Manufacturing and Julie’s Biscuits for their warmth and hospitality!

65daigou Taobao Haul

September 8, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
How do you like my outfit? Surprise, surprise, everything that you see above (except the bag and belt) are from my recent Taobao haul via 65daigou.
Do read on for a detailed review of these items in the later part of this post. For now, let’s talk about why you should use 65daigou. I know we can all buy directly from Taobao SEA these days, hence is there still a need for 65daigou and why do people use it?
Why should I use 65daigou?
Here are three reasons why:
1) User-friendly Interface
65daigou’s user interface is incredibly fuss-free and easy to understand. Plus, everything is in English! All you have to do is to copy and paste the URL link of the item that you wish to purchase on Taobao in the EZ Buy tab on top of 65daigou’s website.
Most of the item’s information will be readily captured by 65daigou. Typically, I only have to select my size and the location of the warehouse to be shipped to within China.
65daigou also ensures that your orders are placed correctly. For instance, I forgot to indicate the size of the top and skirt set that I wanted to purchase. Within the blink of an eye, I received a notification from 65daigou requesting for my preferred size.
2) Lower Shipping Costs
I
have heard so much about all the good deals on Taobao but purchasing
and shipping from Taobao is a challenge especially if you intend to
consolidate purchases from different sellers situated in various
parts of China. Shipping costs will go up as well because each seller
will provide you with a shipping quote.
Thankfully,
all these issues are easily resolved with 65daigou. 65daigou is able to
consolidate your purchases, so you’ll only have to pay once for
international shipping.
I wanted to receive my products within a week, hence I opted for Express Air shipment which cost S$15. I thought it was pretty reasonable for a total of 3 items including shoes.
3) Ease of Collection
There are 80 collection points, 8 MRT collection points and 3 warehouses where you can collect your parcels. No extra cost is involved. Of course, you could also have your parcel delivered to your doorstep at an affordable fee of S$5.
I love the hassle-free shopping experience via 65daigou and would highly recommend that you try it too. In fact, many of my close friends have already jumped on the bandwagon. 😉

Review of 65daigou Taobao Haul
I was looking for a poufy tulle skirt and this set deal popped up during my search for 纱裙 (tulle in Chinese).
I love set deals. I had originally
only wanted to purchase the tulle skirt which costs 188RMB, but I found a
deal that includes both the top and skirt at just 135RMB! That works out to
be S$28.13 for the entire set, which is really a steal given the
excellent workmanship.
Besides keeping a
lookout for set deals, you can also look out for sellers that offer
free domestic shipping to save on cost, which was exactly what I did.
Unfortunately, as much as I would like to provide the URL link for your reference, it is now completely sold out and nowhere to be found.
This gorgeous pair of heels which I fell in love with at first sight is still available. Just click on the photo below to be redirected to the URL link of the item. Priced at almost S$40, this pair of heels may not be as cheap as most of the other shoes that you can find on Taobao, but it is very well-made and most importantly, very comfortable.

Before I make a purchase, I always make it a point to check out the product reviews. In fact, it was the exceptional reviews on these heels that gave me the confidence to go ahead with this purchase.
Was I satisfied with my purchases?
The answer to this question is a resounding yes!
The knitted top is made of a slightly thicker, structured knit material which ensures that it doesn’t crease easily. The tulle skirt on the other hand comes with multiple layers and a satin lining that’s absolutely smooth and soft to the touch. If you were to purchase a top and skirt of similar quality at a brick and mortar retail store, I can foresee that it will easily burn a hole in your pocket.
I also adore my PVC heels from Taobao. Not only does the design of the heels remind me of  designer label Gianvito Rossi’s PVC pumps (as shown below), the lower height makes it a joy to walk in.
