Freshness Burger

January 26, 2011 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
I’ve been on a food trail recently, hunting down all the cafes and restaurants that I have yet to try in our little food paradise called Singapore. Everything that I blog about has got to do with food, more food…and even more food!!!

But the strange thing is, I don’t seem to be putting on weight. I have a high metabolism rate but I’m way too skinny for my height. It has always been my wish to put on a couple of kilos so that I can be of normal weight or at least less underweight than I already am. Thank goodness Chinese New Year is almost here!

I’ve heard so much about Freshness Burger ever since it set up shop at the spanking new Nex mall in Serangoon. To escape from the crowd, I chose to have my freshness burger at its outlet at The Central instead. It has another outlet at Century Square too.

Freshness Burger, which originated from Japan, prides itself on the freshness of its ingredients. I’m not much of a burger person, but I was impressed by the 100% beef patty accompanied by a thick slice of tomato in my classic freshness burger. In fact, I was surprised that the tomato was so amazingly crunchy and juicy!

Festive Nails

January 23, 2011 by Regina Chow 3 Comments

I’ve never had my nails done for CNY because I just can’t sit still for hours at the nail parlour!

But, I decided I should dress up with festive nails this year, and who better to do this than Clara? ๐Ÿ™‚

She did this gorgeous design from scratch, and I was all ready to go in 45 minutes! Talk about creativity and speed!

National Museum of Singapore

January 23, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments
I love visiting museums when I travel because it is one of the easiest and fastest ways to get to know a country’s history and heritage. As a child, my parents used to take me to museums all over Singapore. Although the museum exhibits then were less comprehensive, I always found my visits very enriching.

Recently, I had the opportunity to relive my childhood, thanks to my resourceful brother who took the initiative to secure discounted tickets to the Pompeii exhibition at the national museum.

We were slightly disappointed with the exhibition as most of the artifacts were replicas, but everyone had fun posing for the camera. That’s my brother up there, pretending to be one of the carcasses recovered after Mount Vesuvius erupted.

As we still had time on our hands, we made a quick stop at the National History Museum, which turned out to be much more interesting than we thought.

The museum is divided into various sections, each of which details different stages of development that Singapore underwent to achieve its success today. The best part is, every visitor is equipped with an audio guide, which makes the tour much more engaging and interactive.

Once again, my brother had no qualms about fooling around and documenting his silly antics through pictures, at the expense of his sister.

Baby Leonidas’s 1st Month Celebration & Forty Hands

January 22, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments
I attended baby Leonidas’s 1st month anniversary recently and boy is baby Leonidas blossoming into a hunk! The adorable one was sleeping most of the time whilst we helped ourselves to the sumptuous spread.

Sushi and Daryl spent a lot of effort decorating their place with balloons and banners for the party. And my my.. all the little cupcakes and cookies in the shape of prams set our hearts fluttering!

After the party, JW and I headed to Forty Hands at Tiong Bahru to check out the tau sar pao (chinese bun with red bean paste). The tau sar pao here has received rave reviews in 8 days and I’ve been dying to try it!

At S$2.50 (most paos are only about S$0.80), this pao had better be good! The bun was fluffy and of just the right density while the red bean filling was very smooth with just a hint of sweetness. I liked it very much!

The only grouse that I have about Forty Hands is the lack of non-caffeinated drinks on its menu. I can’t take coffee, and the only non-caffeinated drink it serves is hot chocolate, which is way too sweet when paired with tau sar pao.

Finally, here’s what I wore that day. A simple pink rosette top from F21 and green bow shorts.

Wild Rocket Anniversary Dinner

January 20, 2011 by Regina Chow 4 Comments

Now, it does appear that I like all things wild, such as Wild Honey and more recently, Wild Rocket (Haha what were you thinking?!?).

Nestled amidst lush greenery at Mount Emily, Wild Rocket is a cozy retreat that offers very interesting cuisine.

The restaurant serves, in its owner’s own words, Mod Sin (i.e. modern Singaporean) cuisine. The menu here is refreshingly different from other run of the mill restaurants as it is infused with a mesh of western and Singaporean influences.

We were there just a couple of weeks back (after lunch at Marmalade Pantry!) to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we loved everything that we had (we took the 4 course degustation menu) except for the dessert, which was a little too funky for me at least.

I was most impressed with our first course. I had linguine with salted fish, and believe me, it tasted way more heavenly than it sounds.

Finally, here’s what I wore that day – a beautiful dress from Dustbunny Vintage.

Marmalade Pantry

January 16, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments
It’s about time I shared this restaurant with everyone, if you haven’t yet had the chance to try it out.
The crabmeat linguine here is a favourite of mine.

The tomato sauce is very flavourful and its smooth consistency leaves you wanting more. You’ll also find that the chili and pine nuts lend that extra burst of flavour, adding variation in taste. It’s so very addictive!

Marmalade Pantry serves all-day breakfast too, which led to my other half’s decision to order french toast drizzled with chocolate sauce. I thought it was pretty average.

(JW: It tastes better than your crabmeat linguine loh!)

I mean, how different can french toast taste?! Give me my Tunisian from Wild Honey anytime. ๐Ÿ™‚

That Bee Hive Place

January 16, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments

JW: Shall we go for pancakes?

Reg: Where?

JW: At that bee hive place?? You know, at Mandarin Gallery?

Reg: What bee hive place?! (in deep thought) Oh you mean Wild Honey!

That’s what happens when you sleep more than 12 hours a day, though I have to give him credit for associating bee hives with honey.

Christmas Day Celebrations

January 15, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments
On Christmas Day itself, we attended my dear friend V’s party with a couple of other friends. There were many young kids at her home, all of whom had boundless energy as well as an insatiable thirst for toys, games and food. We had a great time playing with the kids and reliving our childhood with more advanced and exciting toys!

Presenting, my favourite game of the day:

In the evening, we popped over to Karen’s place for a traditional Christmas dinner, complete with a sumptuous spread of turkey and other delicacies painstakingly prepared by the host and her guests! JW and Ethan were also given the honour of carving the turkey for all the ladies at the table.

The star attraction of the night had to be Koji’s baby, Andre, who came aptly dressed as Santa Claus. All he needed was a white beard and a sack full of presents to complete the look! We had a ball of a time posing and playing with Andre. He is such an adorable and sweet-tempered baby! Oh and did I mention that his cheeks are so chubby we just couldn’t keep our hands off them? ;P

What’s a Christmas party without gifts? So there we were, presenting gifts to one another and sharing in the joy of giving. Most of us unwrapped our presents on the spot like gleeful little children!

After the gift exchange, we spent the rest of the night playing Taboo, which eventually culminated in a session of charades and win, lose or draw. Who would have thought that this would get everyone’s creative juices flowing? The hilarious drawings resulted in such uncontrollable bouts of laughter, I bet the neighbours must have thought we had all gone mad! We had so much fun that the party only came to an end at 5am!

The Pinnacle@Duxton on Christmas Eve

January 14, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments

After my office party, I adjourned to The Pinnacle@Duxton to catch up with Yvonne and friends at her mini house-warming party. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yvonne and Adrian took us on an amazing tour of their home and its surroundings. Besides its architectural design, The Pinnacle is famous for its sky park and its accompanying 360 degrees view of Singapore.

All of us instinctively whipped out our cameras to snap photos of the picturesque scenery!

I can totally imagine how beautiful the view would be at night, especially with the dazzling street lights and lit up buildings in the CBD area.

Some parting shots with Calister and Liyuan before we went back to Yvonne and Adrian’s place for drinks and food. We were so engrossed in our conversations we completely forgot to take photos with the hosts in their home!
