Simple Micellar Cleansing Water & Cleansing Wipes Review

September 14, 2016 by Regina Chow No Comments

There’s beauty in simplicity. Time and time again, skincare brand Simple (how aptly named) has proven that there is truth in this statement. Simple has been an expert in sensitive skincare since they launched the first perfume and colour-free soap in 1960. What’s even more amazing is that their brand philosophy of using only the purest skin-loving ingredients without colouring and perfume has remained consistent throughout the years.

It goes without saying that their latest micellar cleansing water and micellar cleansing wipes are a true reflection of that too. Simple has just found a new fan in me and you’ll know why as you read on.

  1. Simple Micellar Water (200ml, $16.90)

Micellar water (which essentially functions as a make-up remover) may not be new to the market, but Simple’s Micellar Water certainly upped the game with its formula and affordability.

How is it different?

No artificial perfumes, colours or harsh chemicals are used.

Triple purified water, the purest possible water, is used to minimize potential irritations and ensure that it is safe for sensitive skin. It is also chock full of nourishing ingredients such as Vitamin B3 to soften your skin, perfect for those of you who have dry skin like me, and  Vitamin C which serves as an anti-oxidant. Hexylene Glycol is the active ingredient used here to dissolve make-up, unclog pores and gently condition your skin.

This formula ensures that your skin stays hydrated even after all the impurities are lifted. In fact, it instantly boosts skin hydration by 90%.

Even though no rinse is required, my skin feels effortlessly clean, refreshed and hydrated without any tight or sticky after-feel. Pretty amazing, isn’t it?

How do you use it?

It’s so easy to use. Just remember these 3 simple steps.

Step 1: Pour a generous amount on a cotton pad

Step 2:  Swipe the soaked cotton pad across your entire face to remove make-up

Step 3: Gently wipe your eye area with your eyes closed.

And you’re done!

Does it really remove all traces of make-up?

This is one of the most common questions about micellar cleansing water. That’s understandable because most are way too gentle to remove heavy duty make-up or even eye-makeup.

I put this to the test with my smudge-proof eyeliner and I’m happy to report that it works really well! Soak a cotton pad with Simple Micellar Water, place it on your eye area for about 2-3 seconds and gently wipe off your eye make-up. They come off easily without tugging on the delicate skin around your eyes.

2. Micellar Cleansing Wipes (25 pcs, S$15.90)

Prefer something handy that you can pop into your gym bag or hand luggage when you travel? Simple Micellar Cleansing Wipes gives you convenience in a pack.

Currently the only micellar wipes in the market, it is formulated with the same ingredients as Simple Micellar Water, so you can keep your skin clean and nourish it with all the goodness of these amazing nutrients while you’re on the go!

I like that these wipes are thoroughly soaked but not dripping wet and one piece is all you need to remove every trace of make-up. I’ll be sure to carry a pack with me when I next head out of the country!

If you are on the lookout for no frills, fuss-free yet absolutely effective micellar cleansers, I would highly recommend these products from Simple.

Simple Micellar Cleansing Water (SGD16.90 for 200ml) is available at all Watsons stores island-wide while Simple Micellar Wipes (SGD15.90 for 25 sheets) are available at all major pharmacies including Guardian, Unity, Fairprice and Redmart.

You can also redeem a FREE sample of Simple Micellar Cleansing Wipes on Samplestore.com!

The Wellness Clinic Aesthetics – Have I Had Work Done On My Face?

September 6, 2016 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

Have I had work done on my face? I have no idea why, but I seem to get this question pretty often.

Well, to answer that question, I did try fillers and sculptra about 2-3 years ago but the effects have already worn off by now. While I’m happy with the way I look with or without any of these injectibles, it has always been my wish to get rid of stubborn pigmentation on my upper cheeks. No one is born perfect, and for me, pigmentation is my biggest gripe as I am genetically predisposed to it.

It only worsens with age if left untreated, and it doesn’t help even if I apply sunblock religiously. You can’t tell that I have pigmentation because I cover up pretty well, but I definitely look forward to the day when I can go completely bare-faced without these hideous spots!

Traditional treatments require a lot of downtime and it just doesn’t make sense to undergo so much pain and inconvenience when I have work, events and advertorials on my plate. I couldn’t be more excited when Dr Ram from The Wellness Clinic (TWC) Aesthetics introduced me to a new laser treatment called the Cutera Enlighten pico second laser. I was told that TWC Aesthetics is the first aesthetics clinic in Singapore and Southeast Asia to bring in this revolutionary technology.

What’s special about Cutera Enlighten pico second laser?

Are you genetically prone to pigmentation like me? Or perhaps you have birthmarks, tattoos or just surface pigmentation that you wish to get rid of?

If you face any of the issues above and yet do not wish to be affected by the downtime resulting from conventional laser treatments or be subjected to possible side effects (sometimes, aggressive treatments may further aggravate your pigmentation problem and cause it to worsen instead), this is your best bet.

What’s special about this laser is that it is able to penetrate deeply to target the root of the issue without damaging the surrounding skin. That equates to zero downtime, which is perfect for our busy lifestyle.

Is it effective?

I had my first session done a week ago and Dr Ram told me in all honesty that I wouldn’t see significant results after just one session. Reason being, the process of breaking down the pigments is very gentle and gradual to prevent collateral damage to the surrounding skin and possible aggravation of the issue (uh huh, those spots can potentially fight back with a vengeance if they are not treated carefully). Follow-up sessions once every fortnight are required for the next 2-3 months to completely eradicate the pigmentation.

Does it hurt and is there really no downtime?

Numbing cream was used prior to the treatment, hence all I felt was a slight tingling sensation. I experienced some redness immediately after the treatment, but that was easily covered up with concealer. Give it an hour or two and your skin is back to normal. I even went for a friend’s birthday celebration right after.

I’ll be heading down for my second session next week, so stay tuned to this space if you’re interested to find out more about my skin’s progress!

Get Perfect Skin with Shu Uemura Stage Performer Block:Booster Primer & Lightbulb Aerial Sheer Compact Foundation

August 23, 2016 by Regina Chow No Comments

Enhance, not mask, that’s what Shu Uemura’s minimalist approach towards maximizing beauty is all about. Those of you who have been dreaming about achieving perfect, radiant skin without layers of foundation, bronzers and highlighters, it’s time for you to rejoice!

You can finally achieve the skin of your dreams with just two simple steps – 1) Shu Uemura’s Stage Performer Block: Booster Primer and 2) Lightbulb Aerial Sheer Compact Foundation.

1. Shu Uemura Stage Performer Block: Booster Primer (SPF 50+++, S$65))

Most of us probably do not wear primer, but believe me, this multi-tasking product will change your opinion.

Here’s what it does:

  • Blocks harmful UV rays (both UVA and UVB) and environmental elements such as pollution
  • Boosts moisture and skin tone; and
  • Corrects imperfections

I love how it simplifies my skincare routine as it doubles up as a sunblock (SPF 50+++ with protection against both UVA and UVB rays) and acts as a powerful shield against pollution. The texture is amazingly lightweight and it glides onto my skin effortlessly while keeping it sufficiently hydrated. It also lends a natural glow to your face without oxidizing at all thanks to its light-reflecting properties, a result of the Colour Boosting Gel and True Colour Powder technology.

Selected botanicals, namely peony, corn and water lily, are included for their anti-oxidant, anti-flammatory and hydrating properties.

It comes in three shades – colourless (translucent finish), natural beige and fresh pink. I picked natural beige to even out my skin tone.

2. Lightbulb Aerial Sheer Compact Foundation (S$60 for refill, S$12 for case,  S$8 for sponge)

You can wear the primer on its own, but if you prefer additional coverage, pair it with the Lightbulb Aerial Sheer Compact Foundation to boost your skin’s radiance. Formulated with crystalline pearls to reflect spectrums of colour, it brightens up your skin tone instantly.

I am a huge fan of powder foundations and I can assure you that this compact foundation is one of the very few in the market with powder that is so fine, it feels as light as air when applied. The aerial sponge deserves much credit for this as well. It feels luxuriously soft on your skin and delivers a sheer finish.

My verdict

I am officially a convert. The reason? My hubby hardly ever notices any difference when I change up my make-up routine (as with most men), but he actually complimented me on my glowing skin the very first time I applied these two products on my face. Here’s an unedited selfie and you can tell that there is a slight glow on the high points of my face.

And you know what’s even more miraculous? He said my face looked naturally radiant, as if I had no make-up on.  That was definitely reason enough for me to fall head over heels in love with these new products. I mean, who doesn’t want flawless skin?

Shu Uemura will be launching these products on 1 September 2016, so if you’re looking to achieve healthy-looking, beautiful skin without the hassle, be sure to add these products to your beauty routine!

August 17, 2016 by Regina Chow No Comments

Are you a coffee drinker? Do you love your spicy or dark food? Or do you melt at your favourite celebrity’s dazzling smile?

Most of us have dietary habits that cause our teeth to darken or turn yellow, but isn’t it so difficult to resist that caffeine boost for the day or that delicious dish in front of us? And we have all seen the benefits and charm of a beautiful smile – imagine if you were watching a drama and  getting shocked when the leads flashed not-so-pearly-white teeth!

While we all wish to have a set of attractive white teeth, the cost usually puts us back and make us reconsider if we really need it. While there are more affordable options like home-based teeth whitening, they seem too much of a hassle and don’t really seem to work. But, that is not the case anymore!

Introducing iWhite, a Belgium-based purveyor of teeth whitening solutions under its parent company Sylphar NV. Buoyed by the scientific breakthrough that is the triple action whitening complex, iWhite’s solutions promise amazing results all in the comfort of your own home. Sounds amazing? It is!

Importantly, not only do you see visible results, it is also 100% safe, convenient, and affordable. Available now at all Guardian and Watsons stores, start your journey to pearly whites today!

Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer Review

August 16, 2016 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

The new Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer has taken social media by storm. Touted to be a game-changer with its revolutionary technology and a jaw-dropping price tag of S$599, all the stylists at Toni & Guy couldn’t stop raving about it when I popped by to style my hair recently for a photo shoot with Kerastase and Dyson. Is it truly worth the hype and the price?

I decided to put it to the test, not just for a day, but for an entire week, just to monitor if there are any significant changes to my hair texture.

Before I give you my verdict, let’s check out some of its features.

Intelligent Heat Control

I was told that thanks to its intelligent heat control (which measures air temperature 20 times every second!), the hair dryer doesn’t go beyond 100°C even at the highest heat setting, unlike conventional hairdryers which end up overheating and damaging your hair follicles. It keeps your hair healthy and shiny, even if you dry and style it every single day.

Faster drying time

And you know what’s even more amazing? Despite the relatively lower heat setting, your hair takes less time to dry as compared to a regular hairdryer. Ladies with long and thick hair like me, this is your holy grail! I usually take at least 15 minutes to dry my hair completely, but with this baby, my hair dries under 10 minutes.

Credit goes to the Air Multiplier technology which creates a high-velocity, high-pressure jet of air that exits the amplifier, tripling airflow. Negative ions are also included to reduce static.

Engineered for balance

I have to admit that it was the beautiful design that first caught my eye.  Do you know the secret behind its sleek, minimalist design? To achieve this, Dyson went against the grain and put the motor in the handle instead of the head which rebalanced the weight and shape of the dryer.

Styling simplied with magnetic attachments that stay cool throughout

It also comes with 3 magnetic attachments  – a smoothing nozzle, styling concentrator and diffuser (yes, all magnetic!), making styling an absolute breeze. These attachments stay cool throughout, so you’ll never ever have to worry about hurting yourself while you blow your hair!

Lower noise level

Unlike its counterparts which can be as loud as vacuum cleaners, Dyson sounds more like a high speed hand dryer. It is possible to carry on a conversation when it is being used, but you might want to avoid using it when light sleepers are around.

My thoughts

After using this continuously for a week, I realized that it brought my curls back to life. I had a perm done many months back and my curls were fast fading into oblivion (thanks to traveling) until I started using Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer.

I usually have to set my hair with sponge curlers before I sleep to achieve bouncy curls, but with this hairdryer, my hair looks effortlessly styled without any styling required. My frequently coloured hair also looks shinier and feels smoother. How miraculous.

Honestly, it’s going to be tough for me to go back to my conventional hairdryer.  If you need to blow dry your hair on a daily basis to ensure that it dries completely (like me because my hair is relatively thick) or if you style your hair regularly, I would say it is a worthy long-term investment to protect your tresses from heat damage. After all, a hairdryer usually lasts for years.

Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer is definitely in a league of its own. You have to try it to believe it.

The Wellness Clinic Aesthetics Review

June 11, 2016 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

If there is one feature on your face that you could change, what would it be? I am actually pretty contented with what I have but if there is something that I could change, that would be my skin!  I’ve been plagued by pigmentation on my upper cheeks for ages (I conceal it with CC cream so you can’t tell) and most of the aesthetic clinics that I have visited in the past told me that it would be challenging to get rid of it completely.

Well, that was until The Wellness Clinic (TWC) Aesthetics came into the picture. When I had my first consultation with Dr Ram, he gave me the assurance that it is possible to address my pigmentation issues with a comprehensive treatment plan. Wow, I can’t believe I nearly gave up hope and was almost resigned to the idea that these dark spots will stick with me for life. Thanks to Dr Ram and TWC Aesthetics, I can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Dr Ram’s affable and easygoing disposition put me at ease right away. He is a wonderful listener who pays careful attention to what your needs and preferences are instead of simply promoting his products and services. I have met doctors who gave me the “only I know what’s good for you” vibe, but with Dr Ram, you wouldn’t get any of that. He also goes the extra mile to ensure that you are comfortable with his suggestions every step of the way, which is why I knew right from the start that I would be in safe hands.

He recommended that I undergo a series of laser treatments supplemented by oral medication after I return to Singapore for good later this year. Meanwhile, a suitable skincare range is also of utmost importance to prep my skin for the treatments that lie ahead.
I have been using this range of skincare products exclusively manufactured by Dr Ram for about 3 weeks now and while my pigmentation is still there, I do notice that some have gotten slightly lighter. That to me, is a good sign!
I love the gel-based products as they glide on to my skin effortlessly and feel absolutely feather-light. These are just perfect for brightening my skin while keeping it hydrated in our humid climate.

As Dr Ram was aware that I would be traveling for a couple of months and my skin was already looking dull and tired after months of traveling, I was treated to a session of double-yellow laser treatment that helps with skin rejuvenation before I took off again last month. My skin was much smoother and more supple after one session. It took just 15 minutes and the process was very comfortable. There was no pain, no shocking pulses of light, and no downtime. The effects are similar to that of a facial without extractions. This is a great lunchtime treatment as you can pop in and out of the clinic, grab a quick bite before heading back to the office with beautiful, glowing skin!

I am not going to lie. The fact is, treatment for pigmentation is a long-drawn process. One laser treatment is not going to make those spots disappear forever but I did have very smooth baby soft skin that lasted more than just a couple of weeks! Patience is key, and hard work matters too for optimal results. I don’t deny that there are times when I neglect my skincare routine because all I want to do at the end of the day is jump right into bed. Then my skin goes out of whack, turns completely dull and horror of horrors, the dark spots appear darker thanks to my duller complexion. Prevention is better than cure. So remember, always be conscientious when it comes to skincare. 😉
I can’t wait to get back to Singapore to kick start the series of laser treatments. Everyone’s skin reacts differently to the same treatment and I hope what has worked well for most patients would work equally well for me.For more real-time updates and to keep track of my skin’s progress, do follow me on my instagram account (@reginachow_sg).

Why I Love Tarte Cosmetics & Sephora.Sg

April 11, 2016 by Regina Chow No Comments
Tarte is one of my favourite beauty brands and I usually get my dose of Tarte from Sephora stores. Now, for those of you who prefer to shop on the go or in the comfort of your home, you’ll be happy to know that the latest Tarte products are available on Sephora.sg (Shop HERE)!

Why Tarte?

Tarte is one of the few cruelty-free cosmetic brands in the market that has strategically done away with a slew of harmful chemicals in its formula.
All its products are dermatologist tested and do not contain parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate and gluten.  Instead, they are chock full of skin-loving ingredients such as superfruit and plant extracts, vitamins, minerals and essential oils. Sounds pretty awesome if you ask me. In fact, I couldn’t be more excited to try out the latest additions to the brand thanks to Sephora. Before I get down to showing you the two looks that I created (read on till the end of the post), here is a quick rundown of the products that I used.

Tartelette in Bloom Eyeshadow Palette – S$69 (Shop HERE)

Tartlette in Bloom offers a versatile selection of 12 brand new, never-before-seen neutral and brown shades, including light beige tones for highlighting your brow bone to nude colours to enhance your crease for a barely made-up everyday look, all the way to dark chocolate tones for intensifying that smouldering smoky eye look.

Pick and choose from a dazzling array of 9 mattes and 3 lustres which are perfect for transitioning from day to night. Creating different looks is an absolute breeze with this palette as there are endless possibilities. All you have to do is mix and match!

Tarteist Clay Paint Liner in Black – S$34 (Shop HERE)

Eye make-up is never complete without eyeliner, one item that I can never do without. While I usually prefer pencil liners out of sheer convenience, I do like the intense colour that only a cream liner is able to deliver.

The only issue I have with cream liners is that it takes a steady hand and tons of practice to perfect it. Well, that was until I discovered Tarteist Clay Paint Liner. The sketcher-angled eyeliner brush makes it completely hassle-free. Squeeze a tiny amount on to the tapered tip of the eyeliner tube which transforms into a flat blending stage, then pick up a small amount of product with your brush and line away!

It has everything you need in an eyeliner, especially if you wish to create dramatic looks. Not only is it waterproof and budge-proof, it is also extremely black thanks to its triple-black formula. I adore its creamy consistency as it slides effortlessly across your lids. I was able to achieve the perfect winged eyeliner with utmost precision even on my first try, hence to say that I was impressed is definitely an understatement.

Tarteist Creamy Lip Paint – S$30 (Shop HERE)

Top: Tarteist Creamy Lip Paint in TBT // Bottom: Tarteist Creamy Lip Paint in Namaste

Moving on to lip colours. Now we all know that matte lipsticks are all the rage currently, but the trick to getting luscious lips with matte lipsticks lies in finding the right formulation.

Some matte lipsticks dry out your lips and amplify unsightly lines that even you probably have never noticed before. That is not the case with Tarteist Creamy Lip Paint. It is highly pigmented and comes with a lightweight, moussey consistency that glides luxuriously over your lips before drying to a velvety matte finish. I know this sounds like an oxymoron, but I love how matte my lips look without that dry, icky feeling.

I typically use the precision felt tip on the brush wand applicator to trace the colour on my upper and lower lip line before filling in the lips completely. Namaste is my ideal nude shade as it has blush undertones that perk up your complexion. To dial up the glam factor, go for TBT, a mysterious shade of mauve that is bound to turn heads wherever you go.

Tarteist Lip Crayon S$28 (Shop HERE)

Lip liners are one of the most neglected beauty items, but they are essential tools for priming and defining your lips. Formulated with Vitamin E and mineral pigments that soothe, nourish and protect your lips, it is comforting to know that Tarteist Lip Crayon does so much more than just sculpt your lips. Did you know that it also prevents your lips from feathering?

I use Tarteist Lip Crayon in Boho to shape my lips before applying Tarteist Creamy Lip Paint in Namaste. Likewise, the lip crayon in Latergram is the perfect accompaniment to the lip paint in TBT.

Transitioning from Day to Night with Tarte Cosmetics

As promised, here are two looks that I created with Tarte Cosmetics’ latest collection. The first look is a soft, feminine everyday look that is suitable for dates and yet professional enough for work.

For my eyes, I swept charmer (light beige shade) all over my lids to the brow bone as a base, followed by jetsetter (matte warm chocolate shade) on my lids and rocker (shimmery chocolate brown shade) on my crease area, before blending activist (matte cool dark brown shade) and smokeshow (matte dark charcoal shade) at the outer corners. These beautiful eyeshadow shades can all be found in the Tarlette in Bloom palette. Funny girl (champagne gold shade) was used to highlight the inner corners of my eyes before I lined the top and bottom of my eyes with Tarteist Clay Paint Liner. Tarteist Lip Crayon in Boho and Tarteist Lip Paint in Namaste were used to achieve the perfect nude lip.

All I did to achieve a dramatic evening look was to intensify the eyeshadow colours at the outer corner of my eyes with activist and smokeshow from the Tartlette in bloom palette. To add more dimension, I dabbed firecracker (a shimmery cool brown shade) in the inner crease area too. Tarteist Lip Crayon in Latergram and Tarteist Lip Paint in TBT lent the finishing touches to this glamorous look.

As you can tell, a change of lip colour makes a huge difference, which explains why I always carry two lipsticks in different shades with me.

Do you like these looks that I’ve created?

ToliV Boutique Salon Ceramic Perm

March 30, 2016 by Regina Chow No Comments

You know what they say about finding a good hairsylist – never let her go, which is why I always make ToliV Boutique Salon one of my first stops whenever I am back in Singapore.
Traveling to Tibet in the peak of winter definitely took a toll on my hair. It was dry, limp and no matter how I styled my hair to will it to curl, the curls just wouldn’t hold.
A perm was in order, but a round of hair treatment was necessary to first revive my hair. Now, that’s the beauty of having my stylist Michelle and her team at ToliV work on your hair. Your hair and scalp health are always their utmost priority.
Only Aveda & Keraganic products are used at ToliV Salon

Every visit to ToliV is a pampering experience. Before I slip away into my own little bubble with a fashion magazine in hand, I find myself looking forward to the Aveda Chakra Balancing Massage at the start of each visit. The calming blend of essential oils, coupled with always puts me in a peaceful, tranquil state of mind.

To ensure that your hair and scalp are well taken care of, only Aveda and Keraganic products are used at ToliV Salon. Aveda probably needs little or no introduction as they are widely known for using natural ingredients that are beneficial to your hair, scalp and overall well-being. I am a huge fan of their shampoo and conditioner.

Kerarganic, on the other hand, is an interesting brand that uses keratin protein and the highly coveted Argan oil, coupled with vitamins to restore and beautify the most resistant hair. I just began using their intensive treatment hair mask and I love how it immediately softens my hair, making it shiny and silky smooth.

. With Michelle and the team at Toliv, you know they will never ever take chances with your hair, because once your hair condition is ruined, it takes more than a while to nurse it back to the pink of health. Only after ascertaining that my hair was ready to take on more chemical treatments did Michelle give the go ahead for my ceramic perm.

I had a quick colour touch-up after the perm and before long, I was all ready to face the world with my freshly permed and coloured voluminous hair.  You may be wondering at this point, how is it possible to perm and colour at the same time? Wouldn’t that completely dry out my hair?
Well, the truth is, when you have a hairstylist who knows exactly what she’s doing and uses only products that care for your hair, you can safely cast all your worries aside. If anything, my hair only felt healthier, bouncier and smoother.
Freshly permed natural waves
A low-maintenance wash-and-blow hairstyle like this is exactly what I need for my current lifestyle. Here’s what my hair looks like after blow-drying it, without any hair products except for a dollop of leave-in conditioner.
After normal blow-dry
On days when I feel a little dressier, I sleep with sponge rollers on and wake up to defined curls the next morning. Given how strong the winds in Nanjing are, it is amazing how my curls hold up so well after a day of battling the forces of nature.

After styling with sponge curlers
If you have been on the lookout for a salon that genuinely cares for your hair, ToliV Boutique Salon is the place that you are looking for. Many of my friends get their hair done here too, and they too agree that ToliV Salon doesn’t ever disappoint.

Eyeliner Embroidery at Arch Angel Brow

March 9, 2016 by Regina Chow No Comments

Eyebrow embroidery gives you perfectly groomed brows that frame your features beautifully, but eyeliner embroidery is the secret behind expressive, magnetic eyes that sparkle. Aren’t we glad that gone are the days when eyeliner embroidery results in a thick line drawn on your eyelids? Today, perfecting the no make-up yet polished look calls for eyeliner embroidery to be done on your waterline to fill up the gaps between your lashes, as this not only enlarges your eyes but also gives the illusion of thicker lashes.

That is exactly what I did at Arch Angel Brow recently after my wonderful experience with their eyebrow embroidery service last year (click here to read more). Now, all I need is sunblock and off I go to face the world!
Before & After Eyeliner Embroidery

Can you tell the difference before and after eyeliner embroidery? I
look more wide awake than before, and I am in love with the subtle
definition that it gives to my peepers without any eye make-up, something that I could never do without in the past. Now, I can literally wake up like this every morning. It simplifies my beauty routine and I am able to get more shuteye.

We all need a little more beauty sleep, don’t we?

When I told some of my close friends that I had plans to get eyeliner embroidery done, many of them were very excited because it is a beauty service that has been on their minds for eons, yet they just couldn’t take the plunge as many questions (usually related to pain) flooded their mind. I will address some of these questions in my post today, and I hope that this would give you peace of mind to finally do the deed.

Why did I choose Arch Angel Brow?

First and foremost, as with eyebrow embroidery, I cannot place enough emphasis on how important it is to engage an experienced professional for eyeliner embroidery. As eyeliner embroidery is done extremely close to your eyeballs, I would only entrust my eyes to a professional who has done this umpteen times, has a good aesthetic eye and most importantly, has at least 10 years of experience.

The founders of Arch Angel Brow, Kelly and Eileen, have combined experience of 18 years in the beauty industry. Only plant-based ingredients are used and all the techniques and technology utilized are imported from Korea. All of the above gave me the assurance I needed, and having seen their works (plus my past experience with them), I knew I was in good hands.

What is the process like? How long does it take?

It is recommended that you head down without any eye make-up, but even if you do have make-up on, your eye area will be thoroughly cleansed before the procedure.

Numbing cream is then applied for about 15-20 minutes, before a wand-like instrument is used to embroider the eyeliner pigment on your waterline. Your eyelids will be gently pulled up during the process and the most important thing to note here is to keep your eyes closed throughout. At the end of the procedure, your eyes will also be rinsed with saline for hygiene purposes. The entire process takes about an hour.

Application of numbing cream

Eyeliner embroidery work-in-progress

Rinsing my eyes with saline after the procedure

How long can it last?

I was told that eyeliner embroidery can last about 2-3 years on average.

Does it hurt?

It generally feels a little ticklish and I felt a tingling sensation at one point, after which Kelly promptly reapplied an additional layer of numbing cream. I would say I experienced more discomfort during eyeliner embroidery as compared to eyebrow embroidery due to the skin around the eyes being more delicate and sensitive, but the entire process is very tolerable with numbing cream. Since it lasts a good 2-3 years, going through a little discomfort is certainly worth the convenience of looking great without make-up!

Is any aftercare required?

Avoid getting your eyes in contact with water on the same day that your eyeliner embroidery is done. Personally, I used wet wipes instead of facial foam to clean my face that evening.

You can also ice your eye area with an ice pack if you experience swelling, which is rather common after this procedure. My eyes swelled immediately after as my skin is generally more sensitive and I had very thick double eyelids. After icing it with an ice pack, the swelling subsided the next day.

As with eyebrow embroidery, there is some scabbing involved in eyeliner embroidery too. Scabbing takes place over a few days and all you have to do is to use some eye drops regularly throughout the day to moisten the skin. Do not scratch or peel the scabs off prematurely as this will lighten the pigment of your eyeliner.

Follow all these steps religiously and you’ll end up with beautiful eyes after the scabbing period passes.

Beautiful Hair with ToliV Salon

February 4, 2016 by Regina Chow No Comments

I’m finally back in Singapore and all I can say is, I really miss our little red dot. I appreciate how everything works here and how everywhere is readily accessible by public transport, not to mention the amazing food, cafes and just being in the company of loved ones. Even our warm weather perks me up in a way that I have never quite experienced before.

So yes, it definitely feels great to be back.
As always, my key objective is to catch up with family and friends this Chinese New Year. Gown-shopping with one of my besties for her upcoming wedding ranks high in my priority too. Nonetheless, no matter how busy my schedule is, I will always make it a point to visit my hairstylist, Michelle, at ToliV Salon.
Michelle is a saviour where my crowning glory is concerned. When I came back to Singapore last November, my hair was in dire straits. Split ends, coarse texture and horrible grown-out roots. You get the drift.
After a haircut and intensive treatment, Michelle nursed my hair back to life. I could go on waxing lyrical about her skills, but in this situation, pictures speak louder than words and this series of photos is testament to the magic she wields.
I only had a quick colour touch-up and scalp treatment this time around, but my hair still feels silky smooth and looks incredibly shiny thanks to my last hair treatment. In all honesty, Michelle is a god-send and my heart brims with gratitude.
I’m not sure if you can still secure a slot with Michelle before the Chinese New Year festivities as she is always fully booked, but you can try your luck!
