Mary Chia Intensive Weight Vaporiser Treatment

November 10, 2014 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

While it is difficult to imagine that slimming is one of my concerns, health, fitness and wellness are certainly areas that are close to my heart, especially as age catches up with me.

So yes, today’s post may be about Mary Chia’s Intensive Weight Vaporiser, one of the most popular slimming treatments offered by the leading beauty and slimming specialist, but it isn’t entirely about weight loss.

Mary Chia is Singapore’s first home-grown lifestyle and wellness service provider to be publicly listed on the SGX-ST Catalist, and it now operates 8 outlets in Singapore, 6 outlets in Malaysia, with 3 unique spa concepts that cater to different demographics.

When I heard that their Intensive Weight Vaporiser treatment improves blood circulation and serves as an effective detox for my body even if slimming may not be my top priority, I decided it would be interesting to give it a try. The best part is, no pills, injections or special dietary requirements are needed.

Who’s suitable for this treatment?

This

treatment is generally suitable for anyone who wants to lose weight or
detox. However, if you have
health issues such as heart problems and high blood pressure, or if you
are pregnant, you may wish to seek professional medical advice before
embarking on this treatment.

So, what’s the treatment like?

I will be giving you a step-by-step run-through of the treatment to give you a better understanding of what to expect. Read on to find out more.

Step 1: Personalized Consultation and BMI Analysis

I was brought into a private room to fill up a form on my health and skin concerns before I was ushered to a machine for a BMI analysis which gives a detailed breakdown of my fat percentage, bone mass, muscle mass as well as what my ideal weight and fat percentage should be.

This is perhaps the most important step in the treatment because a thorough analysis and personalized consultation gives the consultant a better understanding of your body and health condition, allowing her to customize the programme to optimize its effectiveness. Based on this assessment, the consultant would also be able to better advice you on the number of sessions required to achieve your desired results.

I have always been underweight because of my small bone structure (trust me, I do eat and my husband claims I eat more than him!), thus the consultant shared that I could consider doing the treatment just once a month for detox and overall wellness.

Step 2: Vibration Bed

After the consultation, I was escorted to the locker area to keep my personal belongings and change out into a comfortable robe before proceeding to the treatment rooms. I must say I was pretty impressed with the finger print identification technology used for the lockers!

I have to admit I was a little apprehensive when I first saw the vibration bed because I have never seen a machine quite like this. I laid down on my back, with my head nestled into the cushion and my legs propped up. The vertical cocoon-like contraption was then pulled down horizontally to cover my body.

The vibration bed heated up instantly to about 40 degrees Celsius and a series of vibrations ran through the entire bed.

I could feel my body rocking from side to side as I began to work up a sweat. Did you know that 15 minutes on this vibration bed is equivalent to 45 minutes of rigorous exercise? If exercise is not your cup of tea, this vibration bed is probably just what you need.

Even if you exercise regularly, there are times when you sustain injuries. For instance, I suffered a back injury recently and had to stay off my yoga mat for a period of time. This vibration bed serves as an ideal substitute for exercise in such situations as the vibrations and rocking motions are gentle enough to prevent further injury while you reap the same benefits of exercising. In fact, I was told that many elderly clients who have difficulties moving about get their dose of exercise through this low impact vibration bed too.

Besides providing an alternative
to exercise, the vibration bed also promotes lymphatic drainage, which
is great for detox, relieving water retention and weight loss.

My verdict? It definitely felt like a good workout and I really liked the massaging effect on my back as well.

For those of you who are interested in weight loss, you’ll be happy to know that you can lose approximately 500g – 2kg after each session, while you are lying comfortably on the vibration bed. It actually felt so comfortable that I dozed off after a while.

Step 3: Sauna

Right after wiping off beads of perspiration from my “workout” on the vibration bed, I was led to the sauna for another 15 minutes. Despite the heat (around 45 degrees Celsius), it was a  relaxing experience as I was given some magazines to while my time away, which I thought was a very thoughtful gesture.

The sauna provides physical rejuvenation and improves blood circulation, refreshing the mind and body while sealing in slimming benefits to achieve a svelte figure.

Step 4: Air-Pressure Slimmer

The Air-Pressure Slimmer is yet another interesting device that promotes lymphatic drainage and improves blood circulation. Targeted at the waist and stomach area, an inflatable strap is wrapped around your stomach.

The strap inflates gradually at first, tightening its grip on your tummy before it deflates and completely releases its hold. This process continues for approximately 15 minutes.

Step 5: Full Body Wrap

Finally, the treatment concludes with a full body wrap, where the consultant uses a large roll of cling film to tightly wrap around my body. The full body wrap firms up your skin while you continue to perspire and the effect is akin to that of wearing shape wear or compression garments.

As you are required to wear this body wrap for around 2 hours, it would be best to wear long sleeves and long pants for the treatment.

Step 6: Treatment Feedback

At the end of the treatment, I was offered a glass of tea to replenish the fluids that I lost. My consultant also came by to seek my feedback on the treatment and answer any additional queries that I may have. I appreciated her attention to detail and personalized service, which added a nice touch to the overall experience.

How did I feel after the treatment?

When I first arrived at Mary Chia, I was feeling rather lethargic as I had just returned from Maldives on a red-eye flight that very day but after the treatment, I felt completely refreshed and re-energized.

My skin was glowing and I felt the same rush of adrenalin that I would usually get from hot yoga, except that the nature of this treatment was of a much lower intensity than exercise. I would actually consider doing this on a monthly basis for detox.

Shopping with SGShop: Maybank Promotion in November

November 7, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
Shopping is one
of my favourite pastimes, and in between dips in the crystal clear
Indian ocean with colourful fishes swimming around me, I was caught
shopping on Taobao with SGShop.

Yes, I love Maldives, but I love shopping too.

I particularly enjoy shopping on Taobao but I have always found it more convenient to use an agent like SGShop to consolidate my orders from different sellers. I get a greater sense of assurance, as I know that SGShop will inspect my purchases upon arrival at their warehouse to ensure that everything is in order.
Shipment is guaranteed within a stipulated period too, so if you don’t receive your purchases in time, you’ll get a discount!

SGShop also collaborates with several banks, which makes it a breeze to recharge your account for payment. If you own a Maybank Credit Card, you’re in luck this month!
From now till 30 November 2014, use your Maybank Credit Card to pay for your purchases at SGShop and you’ll earn a rebate of S$10 with a minimum spend of S$50.
If you’re thinking of starting your Christmas shopping early, you know where to head to!

Aside from the Maybank promotion this month, the beauty of using SGShop is that you can search for the items that you are looking for entirely in English. That makes shopping on Taobao so much easier even if your command of the Chinese language leaves much to be desired.

You can also check out the various categories to narrow down your search. No idea what to buy? I personally like to click on the “Hot Items” tab to find out what others are buying and also to gain some inspiration in the process. It gives you a comprehensive snapshot of what is trending in a nutshell.

Alternatively, you could also copy a link from Taobao and paste it into the search tab in SGShop. SGShop will automatically capture all the relevant information from the link and translate it into English.
All you have to do is to select the size, colour, quantity and shipment method. Prices and shipping fees are automatically converted into SGD too, so you’ll know exactly how much each item costs. How very convenient!

Here are a couple of items that I’ve added to my shopping cart, and because it is so easy to use, I can’t resist the temptation to add even more items to my cart!
Interested in what I got myself? You’ll get to take a peek at some of them when they arrive as I’ll be posting them up on my instagram account (@reginachow_sg).

If you are in need of some retail therapy, remember to pop by SGShop for your dose of happiness today. Oh, and remember to pay with your Maybank Credit Card for extra cost savings!

Climbing natural beyond Singapore

November 5, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
This post follows on from JW’s (my hubby) previous entry on climbing. Interestingly, some friends had earlier commented that this topic was odd for a blog on fashion, beauty and travel.

I thought about it. Sometimes, it is the flower which has an oddly-coloured petal among the others that also makes it interesting.

In any case, health and fitness is part and parcel of looking good and feeling great, which really isn’t that far off from what my fashion and beauty posts aim to achieve, isn’t it?

[Guest Post from JW]

Why
do people keep climbing up and down that same artificial rock-wall?
Actually, there are routes of varying difficulty on it. But I also
opine, that the ultimate delight of climbing probably lies in the transfer to
natural rocks.
While I may
not have travelled as much as I’d have wished, I’m grateful enough thus
far. Everyone probably
has his or her own tick-list of places to visit/climb, and I’m glad to
have made satisfactory progress on mine! I’ve had the good fortune of
discovering overseas
crags which charmed me. Although Blue Mountains (Australia) and Yangshuo
(China) are pretty awesome, the crags which hold a special place in my
heart
are still Krabi (Thailand), Ceuse (France) and Rodellar (Spain).
KRABI, THAILAND

There’s
something magical about Krabi. When my then team captain told me about a climbing
paradise called Krabi, I thought she was just exaggerating. And boy, was I wrong!

Climbing
for two weeks by the Andaman Sea on beautiful limestone crags amidst the rustic habitat
of Tonsai as well as pitting myself physically and mentally against the natural
features on different routes, the simple pleasures of life couldn’t be more stark. A
trip which I intended to mark the end of my climbing years (prior to my
all-important final year in university), turned out to be the beginning of my
epiphany that climbing was not so much a competitive or athletic pursuit but a
way of life…

Climbing in Krabi is economical as it is near Singapore, with
quality food and accommodation at affordable prices. With an abundance of 6s, Krabi
is worth the journey for climbers who can send 6c comfortably.

CEUSE, FRANCE

I’ve
written about Ceuse before, so I shall refrain from going on and on
about it. It was a trip I badly needed to find some closure and peace
with myself after a difficult episode in my life, and I’m glad I made
it.

Two weeks in southern France, two weeks of self-discovery, two weeks
of climbing lessons from Mother Nature. Prior to Ceuse, I paid scant
attention to footwork coz I thrived on overhangs and powerful moves
which were more acrobatic and offered greater thrill. But at its Berlin
crag, I was completely humbled and mind blown as I was challenged to hone
myself in a dimension of climbing unfamiliar to me. The handholds and
footholds were so sketchy, I experienced feet cramps! Well, it probably
made me a more wholesome climber than I was before.

The cool climate,
limestone features and scenic countryside of Ceuse were an absolute
pleasure to behold, not forgetting to also mention the croissants and
pizzas which tasted heavenly. The only downside was the daily 45-min
trek (which I grew to love) and painfully icy sensation on cold days
(which I never accustomed to). Cost isn’t much of an issue except for
the air ticket. I spent less than S$500 for two weeks of camping and
climbing in Ceuse. The classic routes are generally 7s and higher, so be
prepared to train and level up for Ceuse.

RODELLAR, SPAIN

Being true to my tick-list for crags, I actually made a two-week trip to Rodellar with my non-climber wife (i.e. Regina).

Located in an obscure part of Spain, little did I expect both of us to enjoy it so much! Here we were, not knowing what to expect – which really is the beauty of such trips. Here, the routes suited my style of climbing – massive overhangs, powerful moves and big holds. Coupled with the ease of access to routes, Rodellar was an ideal destination.

I also loved the sunny weather which was seldom threatened unlike other colder parts of Europe. It probably spilt over to the local culture which was jovial and so full of energy albeit the laidback lifestyle. The idyllic area of Rodellar was certainly worth the 5-hour drive from Barcelona. Decent food and accommodation were also easily found and reasonably priced – it only cost about 40 euros a day for our own stone hut (see top-left photo above!). While Rodellar doesn’t boast scenery as picturesque or calming as Ceuse and Krabi, it is still extremely pleasant and offered interesting places to visit in the vicinity such as the UNESCO World Heritage town of Alquezar. It also has a wide range of quality routes from 6s to 8s, so there is no dearth of choices to climb.

Climbing is a very individual yet communal sport. The adrenaline and enjoyment from the challenge of your own physical and mental limits on the beautiful creations of nature somehow makes the entire experience very much a spiritual form of harmony between oneself and the world.

I also relish how climbing has brought me onto the less trodden paths which lead to amazing crags and breath-taking places. Perhaps someday, I will again laze by the pristine shores of Krabi to hear the waves gently lapping or lie on the rolling fields of Ceuse to watch shooting stars across the quiet evening sky.

Fashion: Get Party-Ready for Christmas!

November 3, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
It’s the season to be jolly, because of all the feasting, shopping, and
partying you’ll be doing this holiday season! What’s a girl to do when there
are plenty of occasions for merry-making? Look her best at every one of them,
of course!
But the last thing you want to do is show up under-dressed for a
Christmas bash, or overdressed for a simple cosy Christmas dinner. So how do
you decide on appropriate outfits for Christmas celebrations?
Here’s how:
1. Cosy Dinner with the Family
Go for a fun, sophisticated look that is grown-up enough so that you
don’t get stuck at the kids’ table (not that that’s a bad thing – little
cousins can be more fun to hang out with!), but not so stuffy that your
relatives start asking when you’re going to get married.

Image from zalora.sg
Try: a floral or motif print blouse, a pair of slouchy pants (to make
room for dessert!) and pull the look together with a skinny belt and (optional)
dark blazer.
2. Dinner with Your Other Half and His Family
Go with cozy knits and unfussy fabrics like cotton and linen. They give
off that down-to-earth, girl-next-door vibe that will have your guy’s parents
warming to you instantly. Knits don’t have to be frumpy, though.

Try: Steal Keri Russell’s look and pair a comfy cream-coloured knit
sweater with distressed skinny jeans and Oxford shoes. If you’d like more
colour, go for a pastel sweater and a skirt of modest length. You’ll look pulled
together but still approachable.
3. Cocktail Party
It’s a cocktail party, so bring on the glitz and sparkle! Think sexy but
fun, so a sequin mini dress is the perfect go-to. A flirty fit-and-flare dress
paired with statement accessories or strappy heels will also do the trick.
Image from zalora.sg
Try: The more you sparkle, the better. This shift dress from Mango is
swingy, comfy and glitzy rolled in one!
4. Christmas Bash with Close Friends
If fancy cocktail parties aren’t quite your thing, and you’d rather
spend Christmas with a few close friends in your pyjamas, then get comfy in
slouchy boyfriend jeans or leggings.
Image from zalora.sg
Try: Even though it’s a slumber party, that doesn’t mean you can cop out
and dress like a slob in your sweatshirt. Try something fun and unexpected
instead, like leggings with a whimsical print.
5. Office Party
The office shindig is always a grey area. When you mix work with
alcohol, it’s easy to get carried away and toss decorum out the window. So let’s
clear this up once and for all: you are partying with your colleagues and your
boss, so keep your look semi-professional. How do you strike a balance between
fun colleague and serious employee?
Image from zalora.sg
Try: A dressier version of what you would normally wear to the office.
Add some glitz to your jewel-toned sheath with a skinny belt and metallic or
nude pumps, or glam up your graphic pants and satin blouse ensemble with
statement accessories.
What are some of your outfit ideas for holiday season? Share them in the

Fashion Fridays: Resort Wear x Her Diva Online Fashion

October 31, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
http://www.herdivaonlinefashion.com

Lightweight, breathable and easy to wear, resort wear are staples for beach holidays. These days, resort wear come in a variety of designs to cater to your every whim and fancy, without compromising on comfort which is absolutely essential when you’re on vacation.
I had the privilege of collaborating with Her Diva Online Fashion recently, an online fashion wholesale mall that operates in both Malaysia and Singapore, who very kindly sponsored my resort wear for my Maldives trip.
One of my choice picks include this gorgeous lace chiffon dress (US$17.99) which doubles up as a beach cover-up. The intricate lace cut-outs show off just a hint of skin, leaving the rest up to imagination while retaining a dose of femininity and elegance.

Not heading to a beach destination any time soon? I always love pieces that are versatile, and this lace number is one dress that can take you from the beach resort to a wedding function or even tea with the girls, simply by throwing on the right accessories and footwear.

http://www.herdivaonlinefashion.com

Just look at how exquisite the lace details are! The workmanship is great and what I like most about this dress is that it doesn’t require any ironing, which makes it easy to pack whenever I travel.

Now, here’s my second pick. I have been looking around for a shirt tunic (US$12.75) that can also be worn as a dress, so this was definitely a dream come true for me.
In line with the relaxed, laid-back vibe about loose, breezy shirt tunics that gives it a resort-chic appeal, accessories should probably be kept to a minimum. A skinny belt to cinch the waist, a pair of sunnies and a straw hat are just about right.

I love how comfortable this shirt feels. Soft to the touch, the quality is impeccable and it feels almost like second skin.
I can completely see myself wearing this to town on a weekend when I am back in Singapore. I could even wear it to work with white pants and a skinny belt. That’s killing three birds with one stone.

Besides my choice picks, Her Diva Online Fashion also offers an extensive range of quality apparels exclusively sourced from Taiwan and Korea. Products are updated daily, so you’ll always be spoiled for choice. The best part is, you get to purchase them at wholesale prices!
I’ve also included a quick shopping guide below to help you along:

Her Diva Online Fashion Shopping Guide

Minimum Purchase
Given their extremely enticing price points, there
is a minimum purchase of 10 pieces for ready stock and 5 pieces for
pre-order stock in order for you to enjoy the wholesale price. You can
mix and match the products, which gives you the option of purchasing
different designs on your own or combining purchases with friends.

Agent Membership
Alternatively,
you could also sign up for the Agent Membership, which starts from as
low as US$100 in credits which can be fully redeemed for products from
Her Diva. In this case, no minimum purchase is required.

Happy shopping, ladies!

Fashion Fridays: Cobalt Blue x ClubCouture

October 24, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

Amidst the sea of black dresses in my work wardrobe lies a growing collection of cobalt blue dresses. To me, other than nude dresses (read my previous post here), cobalt blue is the next best alternative to black. The colour is strikingly beautiful and it really stands out from the crowd, but even then, it looks professional enough for work.
Honestly, I find it difficult to find another colour that fits the above criteria.
One of my latest cobalt blue dresses hails from ClubCouture. A design inspired by Three Floor, it is surprisingly well-made given its pocket-friendly price.

 Dress c/o ClubCouture
Shoes from Pazzion
Bag from Givenchy
Earrings from Chanel

I got mine in
UK size 4 and it fits me perfectly, which is a dream come true because Three Floor’s sizing tends to run a little larger and I would
usually have to get them altered to fit my petite frame.
I’ll be heading to Maldives this weekend but I’ve been ill for some time now. I’ve been coughing for weeks (hello sleepless nights) and I was just diagnosed with conjunctivitis earlier this week. Yes, bad things do come in threes – cough, sleepless nights and conjunctivitis.
The only positive thing that came out of this is that I have miraculously developed abs as a byproduct of prolonged coughing. Oh yes, every cloud has a silver lining. A flat and toned tummy is exactly what I need for a beach getaway.

Thankfully, my eyes seemed to have recovered and my cough subsided a little this morning, just as my excitement is building up. Now, let’s hope it stays this way so I can recover quickly.
More updates from Maldives soon!

Yun Nam Hair Care Review

October 21, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
After my 7th session at Yun Nam Hair Care
In the blink of an eye, I have since completed 3/4 of my treatment package with Yun Nam Hair Care. Time flies, and under the meticulous care of my hair care consultant, my scalp condition has improved by leaps and bounds. My scalp feels squeaky clean and less oily, and the occasional itch that I used to experience has gone away completely. Hair fall had greatly reduced too. More importantly, I have scan results to prove that I am on the right track!
Just take a look at my recent scalp scan results below. A comparison of my ‘before’ (13 Aug 2014) and ‘after’ (17 Oct 2014) scan results shows a marked improvement. My hair follicles are now clearly visible and there are less cloudy particles surrounding my follicles, which means that I have less dead cells and my scalp is much cleaner.
Evidently,
the past 6 sessions of deep cleansing treatments at Yun Nam Hair Care
worked really well on me. My scalp is now ready for the next phase of
treatments which focuses on nutrition to further enhance my overall scalp health.
Here’s the herbal formula used in the course of the nutrition treatment. The main ingredients are ginseng and Polygonum Multiflorum (commonly known as He Shou Wu in Chinese).
This herbal mixture was applied to my scalp and the roots of my hair with a brush. After a gentle massage, a red cap was then placed over my head before the steaming process began. I was told that this red cap helps my scalp to effectively absorb all the nutrients and goodness from the herbs.
As always, I left Yun Nam Hair Care with beautiful, shiny hair. Every session feels so incredibly pampering and relaxing, I always end up looking forward to my next session. The best part is, the treatments do wonders for my scalp.
Nonetheless, I am not one who rests on my laurels. To prolong the efficacy of the hair treatments between sessions, I use Yun Nam Hair Care’s home care products for daily maintenance. I have shared at length about Yun Nam Hair Care’s shampoo, conditioner, cleansing lotion and renewal lotion here previously, but I have yet to shed some light on the leave-in treatments that I use everyday.

The Hair Nutritional Lotion is formulated from traditional herbs (primarily ginseng) and is fortified with nutrients to revitalize your scalp and hair. It works like a scalp tonic, hence I typically spray this directly onto my scalp after I get out of the shower.

After spraying
this evenly onto my scalp, I proceed to give my scalp a gentle massage.
This helps the nutrients to penetrate deeply.
The other leave-in product that I use on a daily basis is Yun Nam Hair Care’s Protein Essence, which works just like a leave-in conditioner. It is specially formulated to repair and restore moisture to dry and damaged hair due to high heat treatment.
I spray this product directly to the middle section of my hair all the way to the hair ends after showering, when it is still a little damp. I love the refreshing apple scent and the glorious shine that it imparts to my hair.

Thank you once again to Yun Nam Hair Care for giving me beautiful, healthy hair!

100 Doraemon Secret Gadgets Expo in JB City Square Mall (Now till 4th Jan 2015)

October 20, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

Not sure where to head to during the weekend? Perhaps you could head across the Causeway to JB City Square Mall Level 1 for the 100 Doraemon Secret Gadgets Expo.
On from now till 4th Jan 2015, the 100 Doraemon Secret Gadgets Expo showcases 100 life-sized Doraemon figurines, 100 iconic gadgets and memorable scenes in Doraemon stories. Even if you’re
not a Doraemon fan, the photo opportunities and interesting
gadgets will certainly blow your mind. If you have kids in
tow, I’m sure they’ll be just as, if not more entertained!
Tickets are affordably priced at RM25 for adults (aged 13 and above) and RM15 for kids (aged 4 – 12). Senior citizens and very young children (below 90cm) can enter for free too.

You can literally find a Doraemon in every nook and corner, and if you follow the comic series, you can probably identify most, if not all of the gadgets. For Doraemon lovers, this is definitely a feast for the eyes.

Karen, Janice, Raphael and I headed to the expo on a Saturday afternoon. We had so much fun goofing around with the Doraemon figurines, toying with all the fanciful gadgets and discovering new, fascinating facts about Doraemon.

Fun Facts about Doraemon

Did you know that Doraemon is a cat with ears that used to be yellow? I had absolutely no idea!
An unexpected twist of events led to Doraemon losing its ears to a mouse. This incident scarred him for life and caused him to fear mice.

How did Doraemon become blue then? Poor Doraemon tried to cheer himself up when his girlfriend Noramyako laughed at his missing ears, but instead of drinking a cheer-up potion, he drank a sorrow potion that made him cry for 3 days till he eventually turned blue!

Popular Doraemon Gadgets
At the entrance of the expo, you will find the “Dokodemo Door”, which allows you to travel anywhere simply by walking through the door.

Dokodemo Door

The “Time Machine” is another popular gadget at the expo. I love how the psychedelic lights create the illusion that you are travelling through time and space.

Time Machine

Anyone who has caught an episode of the Doraemon cartoon would find the “Hopter” familiar.
I used to wake up early every Sunday morning just to catch Doraemon at 9.30 a.m. and the “Hopter” is one gadget that left the deepest impression on me. This bamboo propeller is meant to airlift you to safety but it looks more fun to me than anything else. I would love to be able to fly from one destination to the next just by attaching the “Hopter” to my head!

Hopter

Want to take a peek at what everything looks like in a 100 years’ time?  Place the “Future Glasses” in front of your eyes for a sneak preview!

Future Glasses

The “Air Cannon” creates a powerful burst of air that can easily knock out your enemy. All you have to do is attach it to your hand and say “Bang”. Finally, here’s a weapon that doesn’t run out of bullets because it doesn’t require any!

Air Cannon

Having difficulties memorizing your notes for tomorrow’s exam or your speech for an important event? Here comes the “Memory Bread” to the rescue! Place the bread against whatever you need to memorize, and a special mechanism in the bread will store all the information required. Thereafter, eat up the bread and everything’s stored in your memory!
If only this exists in reality.  I would buy a loaf of this bread everyday.

Memory Bread

Want to experience a day in the life of a Lilliputian (for those of you who’ve read Gulliver’s Travels)? You could jolly well fulfill your dream with the “Small Light”, a device that shrinks people and objects.
The Small Light

Besides these popular gadgets, there many other interesting gadgets that double up as great photo backdrops.

Iconic Doraemon Scenes
Gadgets aside, a Doraemon expo will not be complete without iconic scenes from the anime. Here are some of the most unforgettable scenes in Doraemon:

1. The First Appearance of Doraemon
Doraemon first popped out of a drawer in Nobita’s bedroom, catching him by surprise.

2. Nobita’s Wedding
Doraemon fans would know that Nobita always had a thing for Shizuka. The pair did eventually end up together.

3. Nobita’s Grandmother
The teddy bear in the photo below was a precious gift from Nobita’s grandmother. Nobita found the teddy bear in his stash of old belongings and it reminded him of how much he missed his grandmother, hence he asked Doraemon to take him back to three years ago when his grandmother was still alive.

4. Farewell between Doraemon and Nobita

5. Nobita’s classroom
A new scene at the Doraemon expo, fans can expect to sit in Nobita’s class, which comes complete with a teacher and blackboard.

Nobita’s Friends

You’ll also get to meet many of Nobita’s friends during the expo.

The numerous photo-taking opportunities made the entire experience an engaging and interactive one. Suitable for all ages, the Doraemon expo provides a great opportunity for family bonding and for friends to get together. It was a fun-filled afternoon for all of us and we had a marvelous time snapping away.

Fashion Fridays: The Little Nude Dress

October 17, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
The little black dress has and always will be a wardrobe staple, but the often neglected little nude dress is just as timeless, don’t you think? The personification of grace and sophistication, the little nude dress has a softer, gentler side that allows you to make a statement with understated elegance.

One wonderful aspect about this subtle hue is that it gives you free rein to play around with textures and layers. In this case, cascading ruffles are the main focal point of my little nude dress. Details like ruffles lend an inexplicably girly appeal to nude dresses.  On the contrary, imagine if the dress was in a darker shade like black. The striking colour coupled with ruffles would give the dress a more garish persona. If gaudy and overdone are adjectives that you would like to avoid, sticking to subtler shades would be your best bet.

To jazz up the plain colour palette, I threw on a pair of fierce animal print lace-up heels from Zara in a similar hue no less. Lace-up heels never fail to add a dose of edginess without compromising on femininity.
To balance out the edginess, a touch of pearls in the form of earrings and an arm cuff were added to complete the ensemble.

This series of photographs was taken at Quayside Isle, one of only places in Singapore that reminds me of Sydney and instantly puts me in a holiday mood. Quality couple
time, fresh air and outdoor activities that do not involve shopping
malls, sprawling beaches and the beautiful harbour – these are just some
of the things I miss. On a totally unrelated note, the one year we spent in Sydney created so many wondrous memories and personal development opportunities, both for us as a couple and for each of us as an individual.
What struck me the hardest was that work-life balance, an important aspect that Singaporeans value but strive so hard to achieve, seemed to come so naturally to those who live in Australia.  The one year in Sydney led me to realize that there is more to life than making a living.
Life used to be all about work for me. I used to be more negative and cynical, frequently complaining about how badly life was treating me. We all need to make a living, but more importantly, we need to create a life worth living for. That nagging thought gave me the impetus to pursue my passion for writing relentlessly, through blogging.
I write a lot in the course of my work, but creative writing is a different ballgame altogether. Your vocabulary is wider, your sentence structures less restricted, and your thoughts are allowed to run wild, no holds barred. It excites my senses and stimulates every cell in my body. It makes me feel alive. And this is what keeps me going, day after day.
I might write about fashion today, my travel escapades tomorrow and beauty products the following day, but every single word that is printed on this humble space comes straight from my heart. You cannot believe how thankful I am to each and every one of you out there who continue to read my ramblings, and I hope today’s Fashion Fridays post would serve as a source of inspiration to you, beyond just fashion, to pursue your passion, live your dreams and bring meaning to your lives.
Have a great weekend ahead!

Fashion: The Denim Shirt – A Wardrobe Staple

October 15, 2014 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

I have been under the weather for about a week and I am croaking like a toad now. Those of you who have interacted with me can probably attest to that. That also explains why I haven’t been blogging as often as I ought to. Now that I’m a little better, I thought I’d squeeze in a fashion post to pique your interest.
Have you read my previous post on denim dresses and how to look taller? My obsession with denim isn’t over yet. Today’s post is all about the denim shirt, another classic wardrobe staple. As incredible as this may sound, this is the first denim shirt that has successfully made its way into my bursting wardrobe. I have never been a fan of shirts as my petite size makes finding a fitting shirt just as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack.

My fairy godmother must have heard my constant pleas because I finally found the perfect denim shirt that fits me to a T at H&M (their size 32 fits me like a charm). The best part is, the material is relatively thin, which means you can wear out it in our humid weather without sweating buckets.
There are many
ways to go about styling a denim shirt, and you’ll definitely see me experimenting
with different styles in time to come.
I was going for a more feminine
look in this post, hence lace tiered shorts seemed like the best match. To keep the look clean and simple yet interesting, all I did was to add a
touch of gold accents in the form of a belt and a whimsical clock bag.

Shorts from Dip Drops (Japanese label)
Leather Loafers from Beijing (gift from Yitian)
Clock Bag from Taobao
Sunglasses from Marc by Marc Jacobs

These days, I
find myself picking out classic wardrobe pieces, basics that will stand
the test of time and can be worn again and again. Perhaps it’s a sign of
age or maturity? I still lust for the latest trends every once in a
while, but my aim now is to build a classic wardrobe, one that will
always be in style regardless of what is trending. You know what, I can almost hear my
husband heave a sigh of relief!

A crisp white
shirt, denim shirt, dark jeans, the little black dress, simple fitted
t-shirts and vests in classic colours (black and white or stripes) are
just some of my wardrobe staples. What about you? What do you consider
as wardrobe staples?
