Crisp White Cotton

August 19, 2013 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
I have a soft spot for crisp white cotton dresses because they radiate an aura of innocence and are the perfect canvas for experimenting with accessories. You can either dress up a white dress with feminine accents, like what I did here, or style it in an edgier fashion with bold statement jewellery and boots. The styling possibilities are endless.
I’m falling back on my usual vintage style in this post as this dress reminds me very much of the shift dresses made popular by Twiggy in the 60s. The flattering baby doll cut emanates an angelic sweetness and the simplicity of the design makes this a classic, timeless number that will never go out of style.

Dress from WhoaBlogShop

Bag from Aigner (Vintage find from Dustbunny Vintage)
Shoes from Dip Drops
Socks from Hong Kong
Hat from Seoul

This little clip-on hat is a treasured find from my recent trip to Seoul. I love wearing hats as they add a touch of panache to any ensemble, but finding a hat that fits well without trapping heat and flattening my hair has always been a challenge. This is the perhaps the best alternative. The only downside is, it does nothing to shield me from the sun.

Oh well, I guess I can’t have my cake and eat it. But it is cute, isn’t it? 😉

Sponsored Video: New Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue

August 17, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments

The new Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue is a vintage inspired timepiece that pays tribute to one of Tudor’s most iconic watches, the 1973 sports chronograph ‘Montecarlo’. This incarnation features a unique design that exudes a sense of nostalgia, complemented with a distinctive blend of practical and functional elements that adds a contemporary touch to this exquisite work of art.

What I adore about this watch is its versatility and how it can transition effortlessly from weekends to weekdays with its steel bracelet and fabric bracelet. The preppy chic fabric bracelet in blue, grey and orange hues lends character and a retro, nautical charm to your weekend outfits, while the steel bracelet instantly transforms the watch into a boardroom worthy timepiece.

The Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue may be a men’s watch, but its chic and stylish appearance makes it the perfect accessory for ladies who have a penchant for oversized watches. The epitome of elegance and sophistication, this beauty is a fashion statement and a breath of fresh air in the world of haute horology.

Beauty aside, its technical and mechanical qualities would not disappoint watch aficionados. Housed within a 42mm steel case with a bidirectional bezel, complete with a blue anodized aluminum, the Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue is waterproof to a depth of 150 metres (100 feet) and showcases a sapphire glass face accompanied by a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement with a 42-hour power reserve.

Enter the world of Tudor today and marvel at the mechanical mastery and design perfection of its well-crafted timepieces. If time is the ultimate luxury, a reliable timepiece that tells time with utmost precision is the ultimate indulgence.

Hair Treatment at Jean Yip Hairdressing & Jean Yip Style of the Month Contest

August 8, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments

Every once in a while, it is important to indulge in a little treat, be it a sugary sweet macaron or a much-needed massage to ease your worries away. What did you indulge in recently?
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have found the picture above familiar. It was taken after my little treat last week, an intensive hair treatment at Jean Yip Plaza Singapura. I did my hair colour with Jean Yip not too long ago (read my previous post on Jean Yip), and this time, I decided a nourishing treatment would be necessary to ensure that my hair remains healthy.

The stylist listened attentively to my concerns about my dry hair ends and subsequently recommended a combination of the Scalp Peel Treatment and Super Silk Thermal Intensive Treatment.
This was my second Scalp Peel Treatment and I am very pleased with the results thus far. My scalp used to be relatively sensitive, and on occasions when I decided to wash my hair on alternate days, my scalp would itch. I used a clarifying scalp shampoo once a week, but even then, it never did resolve the root of the problem.
Benefits of Scalp Peel Treatment
Most issues relating to hair loss and slow hair growth are associated with scalp problems. Did you know that shampoo and conditioner can cause scalp build up over time? Scalp build up causes hair follicles to clog up and eventually lose their ability to function.
The Scalp Peel Treatment not only removes product buildup from shampoo and conditioner, it also removes dead skin and unclogs hair follicles to promote healthy hair growth.

After the first Scalp Peel Treatment, I noticed that my scalp is less oily than before and it hardly ever itches anymore, even if I only wash my hair on alternate days. I am truly impressed because I have tried scalp treatments in other salons but their effectiveness only lasted a few days.

The Super Silk Thermal Intensive Treatment is a heat-activated treatment to deeply moisturize and condition your hair. This was my first time trying this treatment and I think it is pretty effective in taming frizz. My hair looks smoother, shinier and healthier!

My Encounters with Lace

August 5, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments

It has been a while since I last put up any fashion related posts , so I thought I’ll share two outfits today, both of which include lace.
Lace is one of my favourite fabrics and also a wardrobe staple for me. It exudes a classic, old world charm and a sense of femininity that no other fabric does.

When paired with other textures like beads and sequins in this case, lace adds dimension and an element of interest while taking a back seat, without overpowering the intricate details of the blouse.

Sequin Top from Ms Selfridge
Lace skorts from Bangkok
Nude glitter pumps from Miu Miu
Clutch from YSL
Hairclip from Japan

For an even more feminine look that can take you from day to night, full lace dresses never ever disappoint. The delicate fabric alone epitomizes elegance, sophistication and grace, characteristics that not many fabrics embody.

Plane Awesome Experience with Scoot and Golden Village

July 27, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments
Did you know that Scoot is the only low cost carrier that flies to Seoul? In fact, Scoot now flies to Seoul 3 times a week!
Thank you Scoot, for flying me to Seoul to catch the Asian Premiere of ‘The Wolverine’!
I
had a very comfortable inflight experience because the kind folks at
Scoot put us on their Super Seats on our flight to Seoul and ScootBiz on
our return flight to Singapore.
One of the key advantages of flying with Scoot is definitely the large, comfy seats and spacious leg room. Unlike typical low cost carriers with cramped seats and barely any legroom, Scoot’s Standard Economy Seats (Blue) are larger than all other carriers’ seats, including full-service carriers.
If you desire more leg room, you can also opt for their Super Seats (Yellow), like I did, nearer the front of the cabin, which give you up to 35″ of legroom.
For even more legroom, you can consider the Stretch Seats (Yellow) located at the bulkheads and by the doors, which offer at least 35″ of legroom and no seats in front of you. A small fee (less than $100) is all it takes for you to enjoy additional comfort!
Comfortable Super Seats on Scoot
I tend to get restless on flights that are longer than 4 hours as my muscles start to ache but Grace and I both agreed that the Super Seats on Scoot are extremely comfortable despite the long journey to Seoul. I for one, slept like a baby most of the time.
And nope, I didn’t get any muscle aches or neck aches at all.
Lots of legroom!! It’s amazing how spacious it is.
Everyone loves to travel in style, and with ScootBiz, you can do just that at a fraction of the cost that you’ll expect to pay on full-service carriers.
ScootBiz

I was already very satisfied with the Super Seats in Economy Class, but ScootBiz’s luxurious full leather seats with at least 38″ of legroom and 8″ of recline blew me away.
I could extend my legs fully!
Full leather seats and maximum leg room
Our return flight was a red-eye flight, and I had to return to office immediately after touchdown at 630am for meetings. If not for the comfortable plane ride, I would have succumbed to fatigue. Thumbs up for ScootBiz!
Here are the other privileges that you’ll enjoy on ScootBiz:
  • Preferred seat selection in an exclusive 32-seat upfront cabin, with their most experienced staff
  • A complimentary meal with beverages
  • 20kg of checked baggage allowance
  • Up to 15kg/ two bags of carry-on baggage
  • Priority boarding
  • ScooTV in-flight entertainment streamed to your own device
  • Request a free access code from the crew and remember to bring your own laptop or tablet*. If you have an iPad, download the Gogo Video Plugin before your flight. On multi-sector journeys, ScooTV access codes will be given out on a per sector basis.
  • In-seat power
  • Fast-track check-in at Scoot’s dedicated ScootBiz counter
  • Flexibility to change name, date, time, origin and destination of
your booking up till 2 days before departure* (change fees & fare
    top-ups apply).
The great thing about Scoot is, you only pay for what you need for every flight that you book. Scoot bundles the most common options for you to choose from and you’ll enjoy bundle discounts too.
If you prefer to travel without check-in luggage, Fly is the best option for you.

To add on 15kg check-in luggage, opt for FlyBag, which is cheaper than what you have to pay if you were to purchase an air ticket (without baggage) and top up for baggage separately.

I always get hungry on flights and I honestly can’t survive without food for more than 3 hours. If you’re like me, then the FlyBagEat option would serve you well.
This is what a complete set meal looks like. I’m usually not a fan of airline food, but I would highly recommend the soy sauce chicken rice if you take Scoot. It was so sumptuous and flavourful that I devoured every last morsel.
Soy Sauce Chicken Rice Meal
I also got to try the Moroccan Chicken meal, which was rather yummy too.

**********
I’ve never been on a flight where the crew plays games or jokes with the passengers on board, so I was pretty excited when Scoot and GV Movie Club told us that they would be springing a surprise Wolverine Q&A contest on the passengers mid-way through our flight to Seoul after a quick transit at Taipei.
DJs Jean Danker and Lim Peifen took over the airwaves spontaneously and it was actually somewhat comforting to hear their soothing, familiar voices in a foreign land.

Lim Peifen
By participating in the contest, passengers would stand to win the following prizes:
1) The Wolverine movie poster
2) S$50 Scoot voucher
3) Scoot Blanket
4) GV Mr Popcorn Plush Toy
The contest was held close to bed time, but check out how bright and cheery everyone looked. Everyone was fired with enthusiasm and their eyes were shining with excitement.
You can see how happy this lucky winner was when Jason handed the prizes over to him. He was literally beaming with joy. In case you were wondering, he was holding up the mascot for GV Movie Club, Mr Popcorn!
There were 5 lucky winners in total, of which 2 also won a pair of tickets to The Wolverine Fans Screening and got to meet Hugh Jackman himself.
To determine the 2 grand prize winners, a card was drawn by each of the 5 winners.

Watching movies is an activity that ranks high on the usual list of hobbies for most Singaporeans. If you like to watch movies, you should register to be part of the GV Movie Club.
Registration is absolutely free!
Here are just some of the perks that you will enjoy:

‘The Wolverine’ Asian Premiere in Seoul: Getting Up Close & Personalwith Hugh Jackman

July 24, 2013 by Regina Chow 5 Comments

Wolverine
is finally back! The Wolverine will be hitting cinemas in Singapore on
25th July (this Thursday), much to the delight of Marvel comic fans. I
have caught most, if not all the X-men films and was looking forward to
watching this on the big screen as well. My lucky stars must have been
shining on me, because I managed to catch it at the Asian Premiere of
the movie last week!

I have so much to thank Scoot and Golden Village for, because they flew me all the way to Seoul just to catch the Asian Premiere of The Wolverine. I even got up close and personal with Hugh Jackman at the press conference and on the red carpet! Alvin and Grace were the other two bloggers who were there with me, and to say that we had a ball of a time is a huge understatement.

Although we landed late at night in Seoul and had to attend the press conference at Grand Hyatt Hotel bright and early the next day, I was overwhelmed with excitement, especially at the thought of seeing Hugh Jackman live in action!

Celebrity DJs Lim Peifen from Y.E.S. 93.3FM and Jean Danker from Class 95FM were at the press conference with us too. Both of them are such affable and friendly ladies with absolutely no airs about them.
The ballroom was packed by the time we made our way in and everyone was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Hugh Jackman.
I have never seen so many cameras in my life! One of the photographers was eyeing me suspiciously when I took this picture, but I don’t blame him. As much as he loves to take photographs, he probably isn’t used to being photographed.
Finally, the star of the show appears on stage!
Angst ridden yet romantic, animalistic yet humane, Wolverine is dangerously charming. In fact, the actor himself opined during the interview that aside from the claws and superhero traits, it is Wolverine’s human side that makes the character interesting.I have to agree.I love the X-men film series, but among the entire pack of mutants, Wolverine stands out the most because of the depth of his character.
Playing the role of Wolverine was probably the most definitive moment in Hugh Jackman’s career, and the actor’s dedication to the role is highly commendable. He recalled during the press conference that he used to injure himself very often when he first put on his incredibly sharp claws, but it didn’t take him long to get accustomed to his deadly claws, which have now become second skin.In fact, he shared that he got so used to having his claws around that there was once when he forgot to place them in his check-in luggage on one of his trips and was promptly stopped by the authorities (who had no idea who Wolverine was) for a round of interrogation. LOL.
For those of you who are familiar with the story of Wolverine, you would remember that he has a love interest Jean Gray, which means that love scenes would inevitably have to be incorporated into the movie. It was funny how Hugh Jackman shared very candidly that he would choose not to tell his wife when he has to shoot love scenes until they were over to save her from having to deal with pangs of jealousy. Haha!
I have read and heard so much about Hugh Jackman’s approachable and friendly personality, but I was still surprised at how down to earth he is in real life. His wit and humour never fails to put a smile on your face, but it is his punctuality and affability that takes the icing on the cake for me.We never had to wait at length for his arrival at the press conference or the red carpet and he was very accommodating to his fans whenever they stopped him for pictures. He also stopped to chat with his fans along the way and from what I observed, I could sense that he was genuinely interested in interacting with everyone.
He was so busy talking to everyone that it took him quite a while to reach the front, where we were waiting in anticipation. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally walked over! Can you see how close we were to him?
When he finally stopped in front of me, I asked if he could autograph my poster and take a picture with me. He agreed very readily and even signed his name twice on my poster.
Those of you who follow me on Instagram and Facebook would have seen this blurry picture of us. I wish the picture turned out sharper, but it made my day nevertheless. I was starstruck! He looks exactly the same as he does on screen!

And so, yes the actor is suave and charming, but the golden question for the day remains.

What did I think of the movie, ‘The Wolverine’?

The movie started at 9pm after the red carpet, but despite my slight headache due to a lack of sleep, I was sitting at the edge of my seat throughout the entire movie. Sleeping was definitely not an option. There were riveting fight scenes and adrenalin pumping action intertwined with a dose of humour and romance, basically everything that you could ask for in an X-men film. It was an exhilarating experience.

That said, my fellow travel companions and I concurred that there is no need to watch it in 3D because the difference is so negligible that it doesn’t affect your cinematic experience at all. Throughout the movie, I was expecting someone to come flying into my face (they did fly in all other directions though), but that never happened. Hence, I would recommend that you save your money and forget about watching it in 3D.

The film starts off with a brooding Wolverine, jaded by his inner struggle with immortality. I loved how the film delved into an unexplored dimension of Wolverine as it gave me a holistic understanding of his character as well as deeper insights into his vulnerable side beneath that hotheaded, beastly exterior. Wolverine may have healing powers, but those powers certainly do not extend to his emotional well-being.

The movie is largely shot in Japan, where yakuzas and ninjas roam, and the first action scene is unleashed only about half an hour into the movie, but trust me, it is as refreshing as it is gratifying. One of my favourite action scenes is the bullet train chase, but I shall not elaborate any further lest I spoil the fun. 😉

To pique your interest further, I will leave you with the official trailer of The Wolverine.

Go catch it soon!

Tickets are probably selling out fast for this blockbuster movie so remember to book your tickets early.

Alternatively, maybe I can offer you a pair of complimentary ‘The Wolverine’ movie tickets? 😉

Jean Yip Style of the Month Campaign

July 22, 2013 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

Jean Yip Hairdressing is a household name in Singapore and for many of us living on this sunny island, this is one reputable and established salon that certainly needs no introduction.
For those of you who are on my Facebook, you may have noticed that I was recently invited to be one of the 10 special guests for Jean Yip’s Style of the Month Campaign! It is a great honour to be able to participate in this 3-month long campaign and from now till September, Jean Yip will be working their magic on my hair. You’ll be getting regular updates on my experience too!

Before I share my first experience at Jean Yip with you, here’s some information on how you can participate in Jean Yip’s Style of the Month Contest and win some prizes!

So, I visited Jean
Yip’s branch at Plaza Singapura earlier this month, where my stylist
Andy, who is also the manager of the branch, gave my hair a fresh coat of colour, a trim and a variety of hair treatments.  Before I take you through the entire hair transformation, here’s a picture of myself when I first stepped into the salon, taken by Andy.

Prior to colouring, Andy used a machine which showed the state of my scalp. As my scalp was rather oily, he recommended the Scalp Peel Treatment to remove dead skin and cleanse my hair follicles to restore optimal scalp health. This treatment also prepares your scalp for chemical treatments such as colouring, which may expose your scalp to sensitivity.

Andy then picked out a vibrant shade of blonde called Copper Golden Very Light Blond for my dye job. Thankfully for me, my hair colour is naturally brown and it absorbs colour very well, hence no bleaching is required to achieve lighter colours.

After colouring, my hair was treated to an Oxygen Mask. I always make it a point to do hair treatment after colouring as chemical treatments can be damaging in the long run. Given that I touch up my hair colour at least once every 2 months, it is important that the right steps are taken to maintain the condition of my hair and scalp.

Here, you’ll see how glossy and manageable my tresses are after a trim, colour and treatment. If you compare this to my before picture, you will notice that my hair definitely looks smoother, shinier and healthier!

Just when I thought that was the end, Andy surprised me with yet another type of hair treatment called Photo Biostimulation Hair Therapy.
Laser therapy is used in this case to revitalize and nourish hair follicles, with the aim of stimulating and accelerating hair growth. If you face hair loss issues, or even if you just prefer to have a fuller head of hair (like me!), this may just be the solution for you.

Finally, here’s the end result after about 2.5 hours at Jean Yip. I especially enjoyed the variety of hair treatments here, which sets it apart from its competitors.
Scalp treatments at most salons only involve a scalp cream without the
use of any machines to assess your scalp condition or to remove dead skin
which clogs hair follicles.
I personally feel that the scalp treatment here is more effective than most scalp treatments that I’ve tried. It left my scalp feeling squeaky clean and my hair felt lighter and more voluminous instantly. My bouncy, cascading curls are the best testament.

I would definitely opt for the scalp treatment again when I next visit Andy for my monthly hair indulgence. I also intend to continue with the Photo Biostimulation Hair Therapy, just to test out the results over time.

You know how
everyone leaves the salon looking fabulous, but after a day, your hair
ends up looking flat and lifeless again? Well, that certainly didn’t
happen for me. Look at how luscious my hair looks on Day 2, after a day
out in our terribly humid weather.
Do watch this space for more hair updates with Jean Yip!

John Frieda Frizz Ease Range: Battling Frizz Has Never Been Easier

July 21, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments
I have very fine hair which is naturally prone to flyaways and frizz. My ends are especially dull and frizzy as a result of chemical treatments like colouring and perming. While I don’t perm my hair as often these days (it has been 7 months since my last perm), repeated colouring has left my ends damaged and dry.
Hence, you can imagine my delight when I received an invitation to try out John Frieda’s Frizz Ease range just when my current hair care products were running out. How very timely indeed!

 Background of John Frieda
John Frieda is a British celebrity hairstylist who began his hairstyling career way back in 1968 and eventually started his own line of hair products. Today, the John Frieda team is led by a team of celebrity stylists, including Kerry Warn, the hair designer for The Great Gatsby movie.
More importantly, John Frieda’s team of stylists aims to understand and solve your biggest hair woes and transform your hair using salon-calibre products to achieve the look that you have always desired.
About the Frizz Ease Range
The Frizz Ease Range is specially formulated for ladies with unruly, frizzy hair and would like to tame her tresses and keep frizz at bay.
Having tried many products that claimed to battle frizz and tame flyaways, only to realize that the results were temporary, I was initially a little skeptical that John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Range would work. But, photos certainly don’t lie. Look how smooth and glossy my hair was after just one day of usage!

Even JW
complimented me on my hair when I first switched over to John Frieda’s
products, which really surprised me because he usually doesn’t notice anything. I guess that only means that the products do work!

Step 1: Frizz-Ease Straight Ahead Shampoo & Conditioner

Most moisturizing shampoos weigh my hair down. Some even leave a residual film in my hair which causes my scalp to itch.
Surprisingly, the Frizz-Ease Straight Ahead Shampoo turned out to be different. The lightweight formula delivers moisture to my hair without any residue. My scalp feels clean and my hair is smoother and silkier.
I have used many types of conditioners, including several famous salon brands, but my vote goes to the Frizz-Ease Straight Ahead Conditioner as it is the best conditioner I’ve used thus far. The unique formula comprises a Frizz Mending complex and olive oil which boosts moisture and provides optimal nourishment to my hair. My hair immediately feels softer and more manageable.
Step 2: Frizz Ease Hair Serum
The Frizz Ease Hair Serum for Medium to Coarse Frizzy Hair is the most highly acclaimed hair product in the entire Frizz Ease Range. Voted as the best styling and anti-frizz product in over 10 magazines in the UK and US, this award-winning serum is also John Frieda’s best-selling product, with 1 bottle being sold every 30 seconds.
For those of you who have been reading my blog, you would probably know that I sleep with sponge curlers to achieve my curls. Sponge curlers deliver bouncier and more long-lasting curls as compared to curling tongs. More importantly, the absence of heat also means that this curling method does not damage my hair at all.
I have been applying this serum on damp hair everyday after shampoo and conditioner, before I use my sponge curlers, and the results have been nothing short of amazing. Not only does the serum help to seal in moisture and tame frizz through its humidity repelling formulation, it also lends a healthy shine to my tresses. My hair remains glossy lasts throughout the day until my next shampoo! This is my favourite product out of the entire range.
Step 3: Dream Curls Styling Spray
I use the Dream Curls Styling Spray together with the Frizz Ease Serum to achieve bouncier, more defined curls. Its non-alcohol and magnesium-enriched formula penetrates every strand of hair to restore elasticity and spring. After smoothing on the serum, I spray a light mist of this styling product on my hair ends before proceeding to curl my hair with my sponge curlers.
On days when I attend functions and events, I would also lightly spritz the Frizz Ease Firm Hold Hairspray all over my hair for better hold. I like that it contains sunscreen and can protect your hair from harmful UV rays.
Weekly Intensive Care: Frizz Ease Miraculous Recovery Intensive Masque
This masque replenishes moisture to restore balance, shine and softness for frizz-defying results. Formulated with milk protein, Vitamin E and Avocado Oil, it mends the hair surface and transforms dry, brittle hair into silky soft hair. I have used this twice so far, and a little goes a long way. I can foresee that this tub will last me a couple of months at least.

Overall Review
I only decided to
write a comprehensive review 2 weeks after using this range because I
wanted to test if the results would last, and I am happy to report that 2
weeks on, my hair has remained smooth and shiny. I wouldn’t say my hair
is completely frizz free now, but it is approximately 90% frizz free,
which is good enough for me.
If you’ve an issue with frizzy hair, give John Frieda’s Frizz Ease range a go!
For more information, do visit John Frieda’s website:
http://www.johnfrieda.com.sg
John Frieda Frizz Ease Range can also be found in selected Watsons stores and Guardian pharmacies.

Getting my Ice-Cream Fix at Moments of Delight

July 1, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments
Who doesn’t love a
cold, icy treat on a balmy (and hazy!) day in Singapore? Better yet if
you’re getting freshly made, preservative-free ice-cream from Moments of
Delight!

Moments of Delight is a local ice-cream parlour that specializes in home-made ice-cream and sorbets. I visited their Bedok Point outlet some time back and had the good fortune of meeting up with Stephanie, the owner of the esteemed establishment.

A chat with Stephanie revealed that unlike most ice-cream parlours which offer artificially-enhanced and preservative-laden flavours, Moments of Delight uses only the freshest ingredients and fruits to achieve the natural goodness of their delectable ice-cream flavours.

Thanks to their healthier concoctions, Moments of Delight was awarded for their fine culinary skill by the Singapore Food Map.

Besides the usual suspects like vanilla, strawberry and chocolate, Moments of Delight also offers a myriad of unique flavours that are hot favourites among customers.  Some of the popular flavours include sea salt caramel (I LOVE this!), nutella with
hazelnut and marshmallow and milo.

If you love a dash of alcohol in
your ice-cream, the rum and raisin here is a definite must-try as the
taste of rum fills your mouth with every bite.

 I brought JW
along with me for the ice-cream tasting and we ordered a doublescoop of
salted caramel ice-cream and milo ice-cream.
Rich, creamy and
tasty, the salted caramel flavour departs from its conventionally sweet
counterparts and strikes the perfect balance between sweet and savoury.
The taste is exquisite and it’s my favourite out of the lot!
The milo ice-cream is devilishly yummy too. The velvety, silky smooth texture makes this a delight to savour. Absolutely decadent.

Next up on the menu was waffles with ice-cream. JW and I decided on a double scoop of nutella with hazelnut and marshmallows as well as vanilla.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I adore the waffles. Light and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, this is the perfect comfort food to indulge in on a hot day. I am not exaggerating when I say this is beyond divine!

The rich, chocolatey goodness of the nutella ice-cream complemented the milky vanilla ice-cream very well. Personally, I think this is the best ice-cream pairing ever.

However, you may wish to note that some waiting time is required as there is only one waffle machine at the outlet. But good things are worth waiting for, and I can assure you that this waffle is certainly worth the wait.

If you like sorbets, you would be pleased to know that Moments of Delight offers tantalizing sorbet varieties as well. I particularly love the lime and mango sorbets, which are great for refreshing your palate and beating the heat.

As you can tell from the menu, Moments of Delight also serves up a bevy of reasonably priced beverages and pastries to satisfy everyone’s palate.

I was craving for a cool, fizzy drink to quench my thirst that day, hence I went for the Ribena soda, which is essentially Ribena mixed with soda water. It was refreshing without being overwhelmingly sweet, just what I needed.

JW opted for the cafe latte, his go-to drink at any time of the day.

Delicious ice-cream and yummy drinks aside, I love the non-pretentious and cozy vibe that Moments of Delight exudes. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere makes it an ideal place for intimate conversations with friends.
I will definitely be back with my friends for more waffles and ice-cream!

A Touch of Gatsby with Especially Escada

June 19, 2013 by Regina Chow No Comments

Inspired by the spontaneity, optimism and confidence of women today, Especially Escada is a luxurious and feminine scent created by the House of Escada.
Thanks to P&G Prestige Fragrances, I had the wonderful opportunity to try out this lovely fragrance recently. What struck me first was the elegant packaging. Housed in a gorgeous glass flacon with an iconic double E logo gold-finish lid, the perfume would certainly be a beautiful addition to your vanity table.

Aesthetics aside, nothing is more memorable or evocative than a scent. A whiff is all it takes to transport you back to the past, and a whiff of Especially Escada was all it took to bring me back to the 1920s, the golden age of opulence where flamboyant drop waist flapper dresses, fancy headpieces, and dazzling sequins and pearls took center stage.
The 1920s was an era where women began to espouse freedom. They became bolder and more confident without compromising femininity and grace. It was also an exciting era of unprecedented affluence, where fashion trends took a step towards modernity while retaining some aspects of classicism, which interestingly, is a balance that the Escada brand aims to create as well.

Enhanced with intense top notes of pear and ambrette seeds, Especially Escada first starts off fresh, crisp and playful, before it slowly unveils the delicate scent of Bulgarian Rose and unfolds into a fragrance that epitomizes femininity, elegance and sophistication. The ingenious interplay of scent notes created a scent that gives you the best of both worlds with a touch of old-world, 1920s Great Gatsby glamour.
Especially Escada, in my opinion, captures the very essence of 1920s fashion and today, I would like to share with you two outfits that I would pair with this feminine scent to a roaring 20s theme party in this day and age.

1. Full Lace and Scalloped Hems

The flapper style needn’t be all about heavy sequined dresses which may add years to a lady’s age. I decided to do without the bling and opted for a full lace drop waist dress with scallop hems in a muted dusty pink shade  to add a girly vibe to the flapper style.

This alluring number is a true blue vintage dress from Dustbunny Vintage. Not only do vintage dresses have a lot more character, being able to own a piece of history from a bygone era like the 1920s also gives you insights into the excellent workmanship and attention to detail that is rarely replicated today.

Inspired by the lingering Bulgarian Rose notes in Especially Escada, I included rose accents in my outfits for this post. Here, I have with me a rose book clutch, which lends a whimsical touch to the outfit.
The final look is youthful, quirky yet glamourous, in line with Especially Escada’s fragrance personality.

Dress: Dustbunny Vintage
Hairband: Gift from my mum
Rose Hairclip (pinned onto my hairband): H&M
Shoes: Korean
Bangle: Hermes
2. Beads and Sparkles

Embellishments were hugely popular in the 1920s, but again, instead of going for full-on sequins or pearls, I much prefer just a sprinkle of beads and sequins all over my dress for a soft, subtle yet glamourous look.

The shorter slip dress brings out the details of the lace hems on the outer dress and makes the entire ensemble fresher and more vivacious. Can you tell that there’s a spring in my step now? 😉

A muted shimmery gold sling bag was all it took to complete the look without stealing the limelight from the dress. Accessories were kept to a minimum to give the final look a youthful update, yet the beautiful beaded, lace details and scallop hems ensure that the true spirit of 1920s fashion is not compromised.
Dress & Bag: Ms Selfridge
Shoes: Korea
Rose clip: H&M

I hope you like the outfits that I wore to complement this gorgeous scent. Especially Escada is the perfect fragrance for the girlie girl who’s sweet, confident and romantic, with a quirky sense of humour to boot. If this sounds like you or someone you know, perhaps it’s time to head on down to the Escada counter and spritz on some perfume!
