Beauty: Mermaid Nails by Dazzlette Nails

June 2, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

Mermaid nails in pearly, iridescent pastel shades have always been a fascination of mine. There are numerous designs on the internet, but most come in bright turquoise shades and are heavily encrusted with crystals. A little too over the top for work, if you ask me.
When it comes to nails, dainty, feminine designs are right up my alley. Nothing too loud (no turquoise blue) or gaudy lest it risks looking unprofessional, but yet it can’t be plain and boring. This delicate balance is generally hard to achieve, but Koji from Dazzlette Nails literally nailed it with this set of beautiful mermaid nails.

Skills and experience aside, good manicurists have a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. I sent Koji a couple of photos before my manicure to give her an idea of the design that I desired, but instead of replicating it, she gave it a fresh spin with her own interpretation based on my preferences and personal style. The results? Nothing short of fabulous.

I couldn’t stop marveling at how intricate the details were. The inlay method was used to encase the gems and seashells to prevent them from falling out easily. Don’t my nails resemble a work of art? Even JW and my parents, who usually do not pay any attention to my nails, gave the nod of approval.

I love that Dazzlette Nails is centrally located at Bras Brasah Complex, so if you work around the area, you can always pop in for a pampering session during lunch or after work and then bounce back into your schedules.

To give you an even better excuse to pamper your nails, quote my name “REGINA” and  you’ll receive a 20% discount on nail art services from now till 30th June!

Gelish Manicure by Niu Nails: Apple Nailart

February 14, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments

Apples are the protagonists in my latest gelish manicure with Niu Nails. It took me a while to decide on this design as I wanted something simple yet unique and festive for Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day.
Inspired by my cute little Kate Spade apple bag (can you spot it in the background?), I scouted around for apple nail designs and this was the final design that I chose. I love how it complements my bag perfectly and how incredibly versatile the design is. It adds a touch of quirkiness to feminine and vintage outfits, which are my wardrobe staples for weekends. The simplicity of the design also ensures that it is subtle enough for work.
Manicures
are pampering treats and those of you who have tried gelish manicures
would probably agree that they are the best invention ever. Not only do
your nails remain chip-free and shiny for at least 3 weeks, the nail
polish looks just as fresh as the day they were painted on.
Again, I had my gelish manicure done by Serene of Niu Nails in the comfort of my home about 3 weeks back. and my nails still look as perfect as they did on the first day. This was my second gelish manicure with Niu Nails, a home-based salon in Hougang.
What I love most about Niu Nails is that the owner, Serene, is able to travel to your home, which is perfect for those of us who find it hard to make time to do our nails thanks to our hectic schedules!
If you are interested, you can read more about my first experience with Niu Nails here.
If you were wondering, this gelish manicure with apple nailart costs S$40. Now that Chinese New Year is over, perhaps it’s about time to give your nails a fresh coat of polish or a new design!
Special Privileges for Readers of “Shopping Queen’s Haven”

In collaboration with Niu Nails, all readers of “Shopping Queen’s Haven” will also be entitled to a 10% discount on gelish manicure/pedicure services at Niu Nails!

All you have to do is quote “Reginachow” or “Shopping Queen’s Haven” when you make  your appointment to enjoy 10% off!

Niu Nails: Gelish Manicures In The Comfort Of Your Home

January 4, 2014 by Regina Chow No Comments
www.facebook.com/niunails
Home-based nail salons are a dime and dozen in Singapore, but what sets Niu Nails apart is the owner’s willingness to go the extra mile, literally, for her customers.  Yes, Serene, the owner of Niu Nails, is able to travel all the way to your home to give you a pampering gelish manicure session.
I have only heard of customers travelling to home-based salons and not the other way around, hence when Serene contacted me to offer me a gelish manicure in the comfort of my home, I knew I had to say yes.
www.facebook.com/niunails
I decided on the
nail design prior to the session so that Serene could bring along all
the necessary nail polishes, tools and equipment, including the LED Light for gelish manicures. Serene came well prepared as she actually carted a luggage full of nail polishes and tools from her home-based salon in Hougang over to my place, which is right at the other end of Singapore.
Tools aside, all she needed was a chair and a suitable spot with good lighting to work her magic on my nails.

Serene picked up her skills from The Pink Room International Nail Academy, one of the most reputable and established nail schools in Singapore. Her prices are very reasonable (the design I chose only cost about S$45 including nail art) but more importantly, she makes you feel at ease immediately with her warm and friendly personality.
One of the reasons why I hardly get my nails done is the time required (1-2 hours on average) and how boring it is to have to sit down for such a long period of time, but Serene was so engaging that everything was over in the blink of an eye! Time flies when you are enjoying yourself, and I certainly had a good time.

I chose a simple yet elegant design to complement the different fashion styles that I like to experiment with. My name
initial (the letter ‘R’) was incorporated into the design, together with a touch of crystals, ribbons and glitter.

If you value
convenience and privacy, or simply do not have the time to venture out
to get your nails done, Niu Nails could well be your saviour.
Now that Chinese New Year is just around the corner, remember to give Serene a call soon to book your appointment!

Passion Nails Nailed It!

November 9, 2012 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Passion Nails is an established nail salon conveniently located in Far East Plaza, right in the heart of Orchard Road. I know we ladies can shop at Far East Plaza for hours, but squeezing in some time to take a break from shopping is always essential, and what better way to do that than to pamper ourselves with a manicure/pedicure session? Well, that was exactly what Karen and I did when we stopped by Passion Nails one afternoon!
I love getting my nails done professionally because this is one of the rare occasions when I can just put the world on hold and indulge in an afternoon of unadulterated bliss. I always feel completely relaxed and revitalized after a trip to the nail salon.
We were introduced to Ms Tran, the owner of Passion Nails, a gentle and friendly lady who takes the art of beautifying nails seriously.

The salon is divided into two sections. Upon entering, we were greeted by a row of comfortable cushioned seats accompanied by nail colour and design samples neatly arranged in pretty lace containers.
“Are OPI colours used here?” The answer to your burning question is, yes they are!
In fact, Passion Nails boasts such a wide array of OPI nail polishes, you’re bound to be able to find a shade that tickles your fancy.

Just when we thought of taking our seats, Ms Tran led us to the next section of the salon. Lo and behold, that was when our eyes lit up! Luxurious leather massage chairs appeared right before our eyes. We were in for a treat, that’s for sure.
I really liked the massage chair. It applies just the right amount of pressure at the correct spots, and is very effective at relieving body tension and knots.

That’s not all. You can also get your dose of entertainment from the flat screen TVs installed in this section. Great for TV addicts like me!

Time to start our pampering treatments!

Our manicure and pedicure were done simultaneously by the lovely ladies at Passion Nails. Truth be told, there’s nothing better than being fussed over like princesses.

I chose a red Cath Kidston
inspired nail design for my classic manicure but I wanted it to be done
in sweet shades of pink instead. Ms Tran who did my nails personally, listened attentively and carefully selected the colours based on my
preferences.

Needless to say, she achieved the final design that I wanted quickly and effortlessly! I’ve been to other nail salons where the manicurists are so poorly skilled, they take hours just to complete a simple nail art design, which is extremely exasperating, to say the least.
With Passion Nails, you can be assured of both quality and efficiency. What sort of quality am I talking about? In my opinion, quality refers to both durability and aesthetic value. A durable manicure is only possible if your manicurist is very skilled in nail polish application, which is an art in itself. Aesthetic value is akin to how beautiful your nails are and that again requires a manicurist with a keen sense of aesthetics.
I was very happy with the final outcome. Most manicures only last me about 1 week, but in the hands of Ms Tran, my manicure lasted me more than 3 weeks without chipping!

Karen did the gelish manicure instead. We didn’t discuss about our nail art designs beforehand, hence both of us were very surprised that we ended up choosing pretty similar designs! Talk about telepathy!
Here’s another photo of my nails. Love them to bits!
I chose a nude base with dark blue glitters at the tips for my classic pedicure, and 3 weeks on, they still looked as fresh as the day I stepped out of the salon!

Tempted to try Passion Nails’ services?  I’ve good news for you!
Passion Nails is having a promotion for the month of November!
Just present the image below or mention the promo when you book an appointment and you’ll get to enjoy either:
1) Classic Manicure and Pedicure at S$45 (usual price $55); or
2) Gelish Manicure at S$50 (usual price S$70)

Essie French Affair and Nice is Nice

March 31, 2012 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
I love pastel colours, even more so when I see them on my nails. I’m usually pretty lazy when it comes to painting my nails, but these pastel shades from Essie gave me the impetus to be a little more hardworking when I was in Australia.

I’ve come to realize that Essie is probably the only nail polish brand that offers such a wide selection of beautiful pastel colours. The pastel pink shade is called French Affair while the Lavender hue is called Nice is Nice. Both colours are from the Essie 2011 Spring Collection.

I saw the mini sized nail polishes at an Asian cosmetic shop at just $5 each, decided I couldn’t resist such a good deal and brought them both home with me. They may not the latest colours, but they’re gorgeous nonetheless!

Chanel Nails

June 18, 2011 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
OPI Malaga Wine

I sat in front of the telly this morning and decided that I wanted to add something different to my nails. That was when my little packet of Chanel logos, which I purchased for nail art a while back, came in handy. These apparently come in the sticker form now, so you can stick them on easily without the hassle of using a clear varnish. I got mine from fayfey.livejournal.com.

I was initially worried that the end result may turn out tacky, but the gold logo and the wine base colour appear to work well together. 🙂

I did this myself. 🙂
