Hair Trends for Spring 2013

October 15, 2012 by Regina Chow No Comments
Here’re some of the latest trends for Spring 2013. It’s surprising to see that most of the hairstyles, which are hot off the runways by the way, are actually very wearable and relatively easy to style.
Knots
This sleek and sophisticated chignon was seen at Ralph Lauren. Personally, I would wear this look to work. All you have to do is tie your hair into a bun and tuck in the ends at the nape. Such a quick and easy way to get your hair off your face.
Braids
Need I say more? Braided styles are everyone’s favourite. This particular style here was seen at Herve Leger. This reverse braid (dutch braid) style makes a statement without going over the top. I’m going to try this one of these days!

Low Ponytail
I think the low ponytail style only works for ladies with very long, light coloured hair.  My hair is pretty dark now and no it just doesn’t cut it for me. It makes my hair look like a broom for some reason.
 Slicked Back Hair
The slicked back style was seen at Carolina Herrera, Rodarte and Loewe. Frankly, I am not a fan of this wet look. I think it looks greasy and dirty. It makes everyone look like they haven’t had their hair washed in days! It would have been a different story if less hair product was used and more teasing was done at the crown.
Rock & Roll Waves
This popular style was spotted at Diane von Feurstenberg, Calvin Klein, 3.1 Philip Lim and the likes. I love center partings (click if you haven’t read). Paired with tousled waves, this style channels a sexy, out-of-bed look that makes you look naturally glamorous.
I’m tempted to get my hair permed like this, but I figured the easiest way to achieve this is to sleep with your hair bunned up. You’ll have voluminous curls when you wake up! Remember to spritz on some hair spray for longer lasting curls. πŸ˜‰
Which is your favourite style?

Center/Middle Parting Hairstyles

October 9, 2012 by Regina Chow No Comments
Center Parting Hairstyles
The last time I had center parting was probably in secondary school, which was a gazillion years ago (don’t remind me please). Since then, I’ve either gone for bangs or a side fringe. I like bangs but they are a pain to maintain. On the other hand, the side fringe suits practically any face shape but it is so common that every other girl on the street sports the same hairstyle.
If you haven’t already realized, I’ve been blogging about hairstyles more often than ever. Reason being I’ve been meaning to revamp mine after growing it out. I haven’t cut, straightened or permed my hair in the past year and the last time I dyed my hair was about 8 months ago!

Excuse my sleepy face..this was taken at 7am.
Recently, I started experimenting with the center parting style again and I must say I like it more than I thought I would. I might just try out center parting for a while now, but I’m not quite sure if I should pair that with straight or wavy/curly hair so I’ve been hoping to draw some inspiration from celebrities.

Wavy/Curly Hair
Heather Graham

Mischa Barton
Sienna Miller
Blake Lively
Kim Kardashian
 Jennifer Love Hewitt

 Hyuna

Angelababy

Straight Hair

Leighton Meester
 Olivia Palermo
Heidi Klum
 Gwyneth Paltrow

I personally like the wavy hair on Angelababy(although with a face like that, she can be bald and still look gorgeous) and Hyuna but Leighton Meester and Olivia Palermo look great with straight hair too!
What about you? Which styles do you prefer? πŸ™‚

How to create a Hair Bow Half Updo

October 7, 2012 by Regina Chow 3 Comments
You can probably think of this post as a continuation of my “How to create a Hair Bump (without hairclips)” post. I love half updos, and this time, I drew inspiration from Pinterest yet again on how to create a hair bow.

I thought I would share this tutorial with everyone because it really works and is incredibly easy to pick up! All you need is a clear elastic band and some bobby pins. πŸ˜‰

The amazing thing about Pinterest is the wealth of information and pictures that you have access. There’s something for everyone, regardless of where your area of interest lies, be it fashion, interior design, photography, food, inspirational quotes or hair and make-up.
The list goes on!

How to create a Hair Bump (without hairclips!)

October 4, 2012 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
I have been growing out my hair for a while now and it has finally grown past my shoulders! I had permed hair for years (even when my hair was short, I did body perms) and I’m really not used to styling straight hair. In fact, I’m contemplating perming it soon. Straight hair is so flat and limp, which irks me, but at the same time, it has proven to be completely hassle-free. Decisions decisions…
Anyway, besides braiding my hair and tying it up into a pony tail, I’m going to show you my go-to hairstyle on lazy days when I still want to look sufficiently groomed. It’s a half updo which involves a hair bump. I actually learnt how to create a hair bump without using any hair clips at all through this tutorial on Pinterest and it’s such a life-saver!

Are you on Pinterest too? πŸ™‚

I posted the link to this tutorial previously, but for your easy reference, I thought I’ll just post the pictures here (including other easy-to-do styles too). πŸ™‚  For the half updo hair bump style, refer to the last 5 pictures below!

Note: I use clear elastic bands instead of thicker rubber bands shown. They’re softer and make styling so much easier.

Hairbun Tutorial (Cheat :P)

February 21, 2012 by Regina Chow 3 Comments
I’ve been wearing my hair in a bun for a while now because it’s so easy to style and great for beating the heat too! At the request of some readers, I’ve also done up a tutorial to show you how my bun is done.

Step 1: First, tie your hair up into a bun with a rubber band.

It should look something like this when tied, but I usually make a bigger loop with my fingers to shorten the ends that are sticking out. That way, it’s easier to tuck the ends into my bun hairpiece, which you’ll see next.

If your hair is too short, you can either tie a lower bun or pin up the hair at the bottom with bobby pins.

Step 2: Here’s my bun hairpiece, in the style of the Japanese odango. You can get this from http://girlhairdo.com.

I bought a couple of hair pieces in different styles from Grace, the owner of girlhairdo.com. She found various hairpieces in my hair colour and taught me how to use them. πŸ™‚

The bun hairpiece comes with an elastic drawstring which you can pull to tighten so that it grips on to your hair.

Step 3: Loosen the drawstring around the bun hair piece and fit it over your bunned up hair. It’s almost like putting on a dress for your hair. πŸ˜›

Step 4: Pull the drawstring to tighten the grip of the hair piece on your hair. You can try shaking your head a little to test if it fits well. If it’s too loose, it may fall off when you encounter strong winds or when you run. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to scare off passers-by with a huge hairball!

Step 5: Go around the bun hair piece with the drawstring and tuck the ends of the string, together with the ends of your hair, into the bun hair piece.

There, that’s how I style my bun! My hair looks impeccable and neat with my bun hair piece. Styling has never been easier! πŸ˜€

Bob Hair

March 20, 2011 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
I have been thinking of cutting my hair short for a couple of months and I’ve always wanted to try the bob, especially after seeing it on style icons such as Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes. I like how the bob frames their faces and enhances their features so beautifully.

Katie Holmes looks like a porcelain doll and her eyes really pop with this bob hairstyle.

Victoria Beckham looks so effortlessly chic in this asymmetrical bob hairstyle. I would love to try this look someday.

Even the usually bimbotic looking Paris Hilton looks chic and elegant with a bob.

Thus far, the only actress who doesn’t quite suit the bob hairstyle is Jennifer Love Hewitt. I like her much better with her long cascading curly locks. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Anyhow, I decided to take the plunge and chopped my hair 2 inches shorter recently. I love the volume and how light it feels.
Oh and of course, not forgetting the amount of shampoo I’m able to save. I don’t even need to use much conditioner these days!

New Hairstyle

February 17, 2011 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

I cut my hair on a whim one fine day, and here’s the end result!
I think this look is starting to grow on me and I’m actually thinking of cutting it even shorter the next time I’m due for a haircut. Should I? πŸ™‚
