Fabulous Hair with Invogue Singapore

November 1, 2012 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

I was invited to try out the hair services at Invogue Singapore a while back.  Nestled in the Tampines heartlands away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Invogue Singapore is a gem waiting to be unraveled by hair fashionistas out there!
Invogue Singapore prides itself for its quality rebonding and hair dye services. My hair is naturally very limp and straight, so rebonding was out of the question for me despite all the rave reviews the salon received. However, I was very excited try out their hair dye service because I wanted to dye my hair ombre.
I fell in love with the salon’s decor the minute I stepped in. It was recently renovated in a dreamy Mediterranean style, complete with a fresh coat of blue paint accented by white picture frames and shelves. It felt just like a holiday resort, and I was more than ready to indulge in an afternoon of blissful pampering!

I made a new blogger friend at the salon too! Miyo was there to get her hair checked before she proceeded with her rebonding treatment the following week.
Honestly, how many hair salons these days would bother to do a thorough check to ensure that their client’s hair is suitable for certain chemical treatments? We were both very impressed by Invogue Singapore’s utmost dedication and professionalism!

Here’s my stylist, Kalvin! Don’t be fooled by his youthful looks. Kalvin has 7-8 years of experience as a stylist, so you can rest assured that your hair is in good hands.
I wish I was adventurous enough to try out bright colours, just like that bold streak of blue that he had, but alas, I decided to go with Kalvin’s recommendation to dye it brown and ash ombre.

Unlike most hair salons where the hair stylist leaves the dye application work to his assistant, Kalvin painstakingly mixed the hair dye before he deftly applied the colours on to my hair with skilled precision. His dexterity and attention to details are highly commendable as he could instantly deliver the exact colours that I wanted.
I’m sure many of you have had frustrating experiences with hair salons that couldn’t achieve the colour that you chose at the onset. With Kalvin around, you can cast your worries away and relax, knowing that your precious tresses are in the hands of an expert.

Did you know that there is a mini TV screen beside every seat at the salon? I thought that was very considerate, especially since chemical treatments usually take hours and customers like me would either browse magazines, fiddle with smartphones or doze off. Now, we can watch television programmes to occupy our time!
Time flies whenever I watch TV, so I was done with the colouring process in the blink of an eye!

Hair treatment is essential after colouring as it locks in your hair colour, making it last much longer. Of course, it also ensures that your hair is well-conditioned and silky smooth!

Check out my lustrous locks after Kalvin worked his magic with a flat iron! The ombre effect is even more obvious when my hair is beautifully curled.

Here’s the front view of my freshly dyed and curled locks. I love how the finished look complements my personality and style. Thanks to the hair treatment, my hair texture has also improved tremendously.

Parting shot with Kalvin.
I usually patronize salons in town (and whenever I’m in Tokyo!) and the hairstylist I used to frequent in Singapore is a Korean, but in all honesty, I feel that Kalvin is just as
good, if not better than all the hairstylists that I’ve gone
to. I’ve always believed that the hallmark of a talented hairstylist
lies in his/her ability to recommend hairstyles and colours that
complement your overall personality and dress sense. Kalvin is amazing
at that, and thanks to him, I am now the proud owner of beautiful, luscious, shiny locks!
Close-up of my hair after a long day of bridesmaid duties. The temporary curls are looser and more tousled, but the colour still shines through. In fact, even after several washes, my hair colour still looked as fresh as when it was first dyed! Thank you Invogue Singapore for a job well done!

SIA Cup at the Singapore Turf Club

June 19, 2012 by Regina Chow No Comments

Thanks to the Singapore Turf Club, I had the opportunity to attend the SIA Cup last month along with Karen, William and Hong Peng. As we could each invite a friend, it was wonderful to be able to share the excitement of this fun-filled signature event with good friends Sushi and JP, among other new faces.

Unlike the previous races that I attended, this was the first time that we got up close and personal with the horses.

We could almost reach out to touch the horses and it was absolutely fascinating to see these agile creatures sashay on the parade grounds, putting their best foot forward in their race attire like fashion models on the runway.
You could also tell if the horses were in tip-top shape from the way they trotted around the parade grounds. Some gave their handlers a hard time as they were all fired up and ready to charge (which is a good sign I believe!), while others appeared more docile and obedient. Lady luck was shining on me that night because I’ve never had much luck with horses but this time, I finally won!

Did I also mention that we had the good fortune of meeting Mediacorp celebrities Thomas Ong and Priscelia Chan ? There wasn’t much time for mingling but we certainly wasted no time when it came to taking photos with the stars.

And of course, we had to take pictures on the red carpet!

JP and me

Pretty ladies all in a row

Now for the guys.

Yu Hao, William, Zi Yuan and Hong Peng

We couldn’t have left the lovely SQ air stewardesses out, could we?

Now, here’s presenting to you the amazing lady who ensured that everything went like clockwork. Many many thanks to Jessie for inviting us to be part of this spectacular event!

Group photo before we called it a night!

My dress and lace pillbox hat for the night were from Dustbunny Vintage. In fact, Karen, Sushi and I were all dressed in Dustbunny Vintage dresses! I know I’ve said this for the umpteenth time, but Pia definitely has the most amazing dresses and accessories for every occasion!

Queen Elizabeth II Cup

May 13, 2012 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

As you would have read in my previous post, I was invited to the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at the Singapore Turf Club recently.

As with most races, especially overseas ones, attendees usually turn up dressed to the nines, topped with an elaborate headpiece or glamorous hat. It was such great fun catching up with Jessie from the Turf Club and of course Karen (whom I meet all the time) and Eunice. πŸ˜‰ Do you like our hats?

Here’s a close-up of my hat.:)

The event was held at the Marquee, where guests were treated to a sumptuous buffet fare and colourful cocktails.
Amidst food, flowing conversations and the races, new friendships were forged too. I was acquainted with Shun Jian, who owns personal development blog RichGrad.com. He only appeared in one group photo, because this nice, gentlemanly guy was helping me to take photos with everyone else. πŸ˜‰

I also caught up briefly with Sebastian and Xing, Karen’s friends whom I first met at a party at Lucky 13!

I was so glad to meet Irene, who blogs at Rene Memory List too. We first met at the Longines Singapore Gold Cup in November 2011. She’s such a sweet and friendly lady, you’ll feel completely at ease around her.

I invited my friend Stacie to the event too, and we had such a ball of a time. You know how girls are..all we do is chat non-stop!

With Karen, Benjamin of Chocolate Pistol fame and his friend. These two guys are some of the most stylish men I’ve seen around!

I was fortunate to be shortlisted for the Hats on Track Competition, where guests could vote for their favourite hat of the evening. From the pictures, you can see that I was surrounded by a bevy of tall Caucasian beauties. While I was proud to be one of the only two Asians in the competition, I couldn’t help but feel really short next to the towering ladies around me!

They are pretty gorgeous, aren’t they?

In case you were wondering, no, I didn’t win the competition. There were just so many immaculate ladies with outstandingly beautiful hats to choose from!

We also had the opportunity to take a tour around the turf club. That was when we witnessed the jockeys weighing themselves right after the race. They are so light, even with all the equipment! On a completely random note, JW and I always joke that he should become a jockey because he’s so incredibly light. πŸ˜›

We visited the Champage Room, which is where the prize-giving ceremony usually takes place. Check out the row of champagne bottles in small, medium and extra large sizes. Haha, this room certainly isn’t called the Champage Room for nothing.

Group shot with all the bloggers and guests at our two tables.

Finally, here’s my outfit for the evening. The dress was a Valentine’s gift from JW a while back. This alluring beauty hails from Dustbunny Vintage. I’ve been patronizing Pia’s shop since years ago and I adore her exclusive selection of unique cocktail dresses.

For those of you who are interested in horses, racing, and horse-racing, you may want to head down to Nex, B2 Level today. The Singapore Racing Festival is now on and you’ll get to meet the beautiful Turf Belles, Singapore Turf Club’s very own ambassadors!

Radio DJ Lin Pei Fen will also be there at the roadshow, which takes place from 11am to 9pm today. Head on down if you’re free!

Desti Saint Maddie Collection Launch Party

April 28, 2012 by Regina Chow No Comments

Karen, Eunice and I attended the Desti Saint Maddie Collection Launch Party at Emily Hill recently and boy were we excited to see all the gorgeous bags on display!
The Maddie Collection is all about total luxury without breaking the bank. The leather used is so buttery soft and luxurious, I literally couldn’t take my hands off the bags. Here’re some of my favourites:

This beautiful clutch has such a lovely texture and colour, it really stands out from the crowd.

No Desti Saint bag is complete without the designers’ signature tassels and oriental metal sphere. They’re so distinctive and outstanding, you wouldn’t miss it from afar. I like the originality of the designs and how they’re instant conversation starters. The chances of you getting caught dead with the same bag as someone else at a party are almost zilch.

Desti also gave us a sneak preview of some leathers that she would be incorporating in her next bag collection. Aren’t they gorgeous? We were marveling at the intricate details and the softness of the leather. I’m so excited to see what will be in store for Desti Saint’s next collection!

To mark the launch of the Maddie collection, a cake was made in the form of Desti Saint’s signature bag. It looked exactly like the real thing, don’t you think?

Seriously, all eyes were on the cake when it was presented to Desti. No one could believe that this work of art is actually edible!

We also had a great time chatting with Desti about her designs. She is such a sweet, affable and personable lady, it’s hard not to fall in love with her!

As the night drew to an end, the three of us decided it was time to take some photos of ourselves.

We also took turns to pose with Eunice’s new purchase. LOL She couldn’t resist buying this gorgeous bag. I love its soft metallic sheen and versatility. It goes with practically everything!

Finally, here’s a parting shot of us at Emily Hill. The mansion here resembles Gaudi’s works in Barcelona so much that I felt I was back in Spain!

For more information on Desti Saint handbags, do check out their Facebook page here

You can also see more of their designs at their website here

Queen Elizabeth II Cup 2012

April 25, 2012 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
This Friday marks the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at the Singapore Turf Club and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to attend this exciting event! I was first invited to the Turf Club last year during the Longines Singapore Gold Cup in November and to say that I had a ball of a time is truly an understatement.
This time, all the invited bloggers also get to participate in a hat design contest where our self-designed hats  will be auctioned for charity and all proceeds will go to Club Rainbow. Karen, Eunice and I thought it would be fun to decorate the hats together, so the girls came over to my place and we conveniently converted my dining table into a work station. πŸ˜‰
Eunice also brought along her trusty glue gun and a treasure chest full of goodies! She’s the guru when it comes to handicraft and we certainly couldn’t have done this without her!
To our pleasant surprise, we ended up recycling old necklaces, headbands, charms and flowers. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that this would turn out to be a recycling exercise, but it sure felt good to be able to let our creative juices flow and give our old knick knacks a new lease of life for a worthy cause. πŸ™‚
And now…without further ado, here’s what my hat looks like:

I’ve always been a fan of classic English hats and fascinators, and this hat, to me at least, captures the essence of royalty and resonates with the theme of the Queen Elizabeth II Cup. Did I also mention that my name, Regina, means Queen? πŸ˜›
I personally love the hat design so much that I wish I had the time and resources to make another one for myself!
The Queen Elizabeth II Cup (QEII Cup) was inaugurated in 1972 when the Queen visited the Bukit Timah Racecourse. Since then, it has become one of The Singapore Turf Club’s hallmark events.
Here are some exciting programmes you can look forward to at the QEII Cup this year:

Ladies Special
Free admission to lower and upper grandstand
Free door gifts for the first 1000 ladies

Hats on Tracks contest

Prize: Prada Bag

Lady Luck Draw
1st prize: Gucci Wallet + Horseshoe Charm + $1000 cash
2nd prize: Burberry Wristlet + Horseshoe charm + $500 cash
3rd prize: Kate Spade Tote + $200 cash

QE II Cup Marquee Package
$60 for Ladies
$80 for Gentlemen
Admission to Marquee
Buffet dinner and free flow of beer and cocktails

Pretty exciting isn’t it? Come join me for a night of glitz and glamour as well as adrenalin-pumping racing action!
See you guys on Friday!

Featured: Style Spotting by Clozette at Desti Saint Collection Launch

April 24, 2012 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

Karen invited Eunice and I to the Desti Saint Bag Collection Launch organized by Faz last week. We were treated to a buffet of gorgeous bags, which I will share more about in a separate post. We were also featured on Clozette, a wonderful online platform where you can share your style, organize your online wardrobe, socialize with like-minded Clozette beauties and shop for eclectic fashion finds all around the globe! Thanks Clozette!
I wore a BCBG silk lace dress, paired with pale pink peep-toe Ferragamos, Hermes H bangle. πŸ™‚

Here’s Karen’s outfit. I love her Olive (yes, Popeye’s girlfriend) cartoon print dress and its chirpy turquoise colour. Super love her Celine snake skin bag too!

Finally, here’s Eunice’s outfit. Eunice was wearing one of her hand-made necklaces and I couldn’t stop gushing about how beautiful it was! For more exclusive jewellery lovingly handcrafted by Eunice, you may want to check out her site at EuniqYou.
