Chocolate and Cream?

December 21, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments
Let’s start with Chocolate first.

We popped by for chocolate pancakes (called “The Druggie”) at Strictly Pancakes today and it was most gratifying! I didn’t really think the pancakes here were any good previously, but this somewhat changed my opinion.

Although the pancakes are not fluffy, every bite fills your mouth with divine chocolatey goodness. The chocolate ice-cream and strawberries complement the dish perfectly too. It can be too much for one person though, so it’s best to share it with a friend. πŸ˜‰

Now, for Cream.

In contrast to the dark chocolate hue, I was dressed in cream from top to toe. I love the gorgeous tulle overlay top that I got from Number Fifty at Mandarin Gallery a long time back. You can pair it with an inner camisole in any colour and it’ll bring out the subtler tones of the colour in a dreamy, airy-fairy manner.

Tulle top from Number fifty, Mandarin Gallery

Crochet shorts from Hong Kong

Furry alphabet bag from Dip Drops

Transparent heels from Korea

Hair accessory and necklace from Korea
Rings from London

Oh before I end this post, let me introduce you to my furry alphabet bag from Dip Drops, which is also one of my Christmas presents from JW. I can’t begin to rave about how silky soft the fur is, and I absolutely adore the pink satin lining and gold heart locket.

Do you see those rings too? I got them from Ms Selfridge in London last year, but they’ve not really seen the light of day till now. πŸ™‚

Zoukout 2011

December 19, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments

Truth be told, I’ve never been to Zoukout in my life because I’ve never found outdoor parties very appealing. Horror stories about the rowdy crowds and molesters at Zoukout year after year never failed to deter me too. That was the main reason why we were all dressed very conservatively. πŸ˜›

However, I thought I should attend Zoukout at least once in my lifetime, just for the experience, and I did just that this year! All of us got to attend Zoukout together thanks to Jun!

We spent most of our time hiding at the Singtel tent as Jun had to entertain her client. Of course, it helped that there was a free flow of alcohol before 11pm. The Singtel babes also gave out cute little torch rings which we wore on our fingers and toes!

We had so many rounds of beer and hard liquor that Yitian and JW were already delirious and high before Kaykay and Eric arrived (the group pic below is taken from Eric’s blog). JW even performed some breakdancing moves thrice in a row! Haha but he was so drunk he only remembered doing it once! He didn’t even recall taking this group shot below. -_-“”

We went from tent to tent, jiving to tunes of yesteryear (there was a mambo tent playing retro hits such as YMCA and the likes) and house music. The maddening crowd drove us crazy as we literally had to squeeze past sweaty bodies just to get from one tent to another.

Anyhow, the happy drunkards, JW and Yitian, kept us perpetually entertained throughout the night. By midnight, they were smiling away and talking nonsense.

Yitian kept telling JW that he had to take good care of me because I’m a good friend of hers. JW, on the other hand, kept insisting he wasn’t drunk and stood as straight as he could, chest out and all. At the end of the night, he shone one of the torch rings into Karen’s eyes before running away and laughing his head off. But, when I asked him about it the next day, he claimed he had absolutely no recollection of it at all! Such audacity!

After partying for a couple of hours, we finally called it quits at 3a.m. to fill our growling tummies. By then, the roads leading to the carpark were strewn with drunk bodies and JW had morphed into a Merlion.

For my overseas readers, the term “Merlion” has two meanings. The first connotation refers to our national Mascot, a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. Here’s what it looks like along the Singapore River:

The second connotation of the term “Merlion”, based on the Singlish Dictionary, refers to a person who vomits after excessive drinking. I guess you can tell where the similarity lies from the picture above. LOL I hope you found this tidbit of information useful!

Besides JW, there were lots of other merlions at Zoukout, but thank goodness we left way before the party ended at 8a.m. the following morning. It was great fun hanging out together and laughing at the drunks in our group, but I think most of us will not be returning to Zoukout in the near future! Give us air-conditioned, posh clubs anytime! πŸ˜‰

Costume Party at Lucky 13

December 9, 2011 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Last weekend, a group of us attended a fancy costume party at Lucky 13, a Miami-styled diner/bar/club that opened its doors to the public recently.

Sebastian, Xing, Melva and Alex (aka Shrek) were very serious about dressing up. Karen and I almost didn’t want to dress up, but thankfully we decided to put on our poufy skirts to masquerade as cosplayers or we would have looked so out of place! It felt almost like Halloween all over again. πŸ˜‰

We were all very amused by Alex’s Shrek costume and wasted no time in taking turns to play with his humungous Shrek gloves. He claimed the Shrek bodysuit in his size had already been loaned out by the time he reached the costume shop, so he had no choice but to make do with Shrek’s head and hands. LOL.

Our drink for the night – Jaegerbomb. It made me physically tired but mentally awake till the next day, hence I swore I would never touch it again!

On the contrary, JW loves Jaegerbomb so much he intends to drink it at Zoukout this weekend. Did I mention he’s quite a character when he’s high? Everyone loves him when he’s high on alcohol. He even takes better photos! Haha!

Besides Jaegerbombs, we had photo bombs too. Do you see 2 zombies behind us? πŸ˜›

Here’re our outfits for the night, taken by JW when he was high and thus very enthusiastic about photography (not that I’m complaining!).

Have a good weekend!

La Senza’s Sexiest X’mas Party & Fashion Show

November 28, 2011 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
It’s that time of the year again! Dazzling Christmas light-up along Orchard Road and beautiful decorations prominently displayed outside shopping malls with Christmas carols playing in the background signal that it’s time for Christmas parties!

Karen, JW and I attended the La Senza Sexiest X’mas Party & Fashion Show recently, thanks to Stacie. πŸ˜‰ It was yet another feast for the eyes, as with all lingerie parties.

The highlight of the evening was the fashion show, where models sashayed down the runway in sensual, titillating lingerie, much to every man’s delight.

La Senza’s Christmas collection is so adorable! I love the cute little fur-trimmed baby doll sets paired with Santa’s hat and candy canes. Lolitas ahoy!

Woohoo..the male host was grinning from ear to ear in the company of the sexy, cleavage-baring ladies on stage.

As it was a Thursday night, most of the guests came from work and weren’t exactly dressed to the party theme. Since I came from home, I had no excuse not to dress up! Karen rushed down from work too, but she was in a festive red dress that’s still in tune with the Christmas mood. πŸ˜€

Pink corset from Far East Plaza

Black & Gold tulle skirt from Snidel, Japan

Hairband from Korea

Black Loewe Amazona bag

Didn’t manage to take a picture with dear Stacie, but I’m sure we’ll have other opportunities soon. We’ve to catch up soon babe! πŸ™‚

Longines Singapore Gold Cup

November 24, 2011 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
I had the opportunity to attend the Longines Singapore Gold Cup with Karen at the invitation of the Singapore Turf Club recently. It was an afternoon of glitz and glamour, coupled with adrenalin-pumping action!

The Guest-of-Honour, President Tony Tan, graced the event, alongside famous Hong Kong actor/singer and Longines Ambassador of Elegance, Aaron Kwok. We were all eagerly awaiting Aaron Kwok’s arrival at the marquee but our hopes were dashed as the heavy rain stopped him from walking over from the VVIP area.

Oh well, at least you get a glimpse of the official photos. πŸ˜‰

Through this event, a total amount of S$241,136 was raised for Chaoyang School, one of the social service programmes supported by Community Chest. To be able to raise funds and have fun at the same time is definitely no mean feat!

There was also a best dressed contest, which Karen and I were selected to participate in together with some of the other lovely ladies at my table.

Here’s what I wore that day:

Rosette Dress from H&M
Pearl necklace from Chanel
Suede pumps from Salvatore Ferragamo
Fascinator from Hong Kong

Everyone was dressed to the nines, and to say it was a feast for the eyes is probably an understatement. Here’re all the gorgeous ladies at my table, including our pretty and bubbly organizer from the Singapore Turf Club, Jessie!

We may not have had the chance to meet Aaron Kwok, but we did get to meet local celebrities Irene Ang and Rebecca Tan. Loved their knee high boots and chic blazers. Didn’t they look ready to take over the reins of the horses? πŸ™‚

Although it was raining half the time when we were at the turf club, the heavy downpour didn’t dampen our spirits. Before long, we were out enjoying the invigorating fresh air while watching the races.
Little did we know we were in for so many unexpected surprises! Due to the weather, many of the popular horses didn’t perform as well in the races. In comparison, the dark horses seemed to excel beyond expectations! But I guess that’s where the fun lies. It wouldn’t be as thrilling to watch if you could have easily guessed the winning horses!

In between races, we also had fun chatting and camwhoring with our newly made friends. Many of the photos here were taken by fellow blogger, William, who takes such amazing photos that Karen and I decided not to trouble ourselves with our own cameras.

Link

All in all, we had an enjoyable time in the company of good food, exhilarating races and most importantly, new friends!

*Most of the photos here are courtesy of the Singapore Turf Club and fellow guests. πŸ˜‰

T Forty Two in KL

August 20, 2011 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
T Forty Two is a cozy cafe located at Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur (KL). The cafe is decorated in the style of a boutique hotel, with dark paneled walls, plush Victorian-chairs and dazzling chandeliers.

We met Karen, her mum and Ethan for tea as they happened to be in KL during the same period as us. πŸ˜‰ While JW’s primary objective was to hone his rockclimbing skills in KL, my main aim was to gorge myself silly before my wisdom tooth operation.

The high tea set for two came in a traditional 3-tier stand (love it!!) comprising a wide array of desserts, sandwiches and scones. Have a sweet tooth but can’t bear to forgo savoury food? Over at T Forty Two, you can have your cake and eat it (literally!) as there is a good balance of both sweet and savoury treats to satisfy your cravings and please every customer’s palate.

Food aside, I especially like their tea sets as the whimsical design reminds me of the Mad Hatter’s tea party in Alice in Wonderland.

The teapot is so adorable. It evokes feelings of nostalgia as it bears a striking resemblance to the teapot which was part of a toy tea set that I used to play with when I was a kid.

I once scooped up water from the toilet bowl with my toy teapot (because I couldn’t reach the basin due to my height, or lack thereof) and offered to make tea for my mum, thinking that the water was actually drinkable. I lived to regret this because to this day, my mum continues to tease me about it!

Ah well, I digress. With a cup of tea in one hand and a macaroon in another, bask in the cafe’s relaxing atmosphere and indulge in long, leisurely conversations while savouring the goodness of afternoon tea treats. T Forty Two is one cafe that you can certainly consider for your next tΓͺte-Γ -tΓͺte in KL.

Forty Hands Revisited

August 4, 2011 by Regina Chow 14 Comments
I visited Forty Hands when it first opened (read here) and was so impressed with their red bean bun (otherwise known as tao sar pau) that I kept wanting to go back on several occasions.
Well, I finally made it back again, but to my dismay, they ran out of their buns! I was there for brunch with my gf Yitian and was told that the buns would only arrive at 2pm as they had run out of them the day before. How disappointing.

Anyhow, it was a blessing in disguise because otherwise, we wouldn’t have tried their Truffle Mushroom Sandwich, which was an absolute delight. The rich fragrance of truffle oil was a perfect complement to the flavour of the mushrooms.

Yitian swears by their coffee. I swear by plain water here because the only non-coffee item on their menu is hot chocolate, which isn’t spectacular.

It was awfully crowded on a weekday. In fact, after we took this shot, all the tables around us were promptly occupied way before lunch time!

I will definitely be back again for another go at the red bean bun, but till then, here’s a closer look at my outfit for the day.

Korean transparent heels from Far East Plaza

My gf Sushi picked out this lovely dress and bought it as an advanced birthday present for me. I was so touched by her sweet gesture! Thank you again dear!

My Beauty Products

August 3, 2011 by Regina Chow 10 Comments
Surprise, surprise…this is a beauty post! I was inspired by Chrysa of Stories and Sequins who did an awesome post on her beauty products earlier on.
Now, let’s take a look at my current staples. For those of you who have been following my blog, you’ll probably know that I use Dior’s Extreme Fit Supermoist Powder Foundation and MAC’s powerpoint eyeliner in Engraved. Occasionally, I’ll leave the house with just my tinted suncreen from Drx. πŸ™‚

Today, I’ll share with you some other products that I use in my daily routine too.

If there’s one thing that I can never get enough of, it’s eye make-up. I have a multitude of eyeshadows in shades of brown and black. Shimmery, matte, whatever…you name it, I have it.

I’m currently besotted with the Naked palette from Urban Decay and have been using it most of the time. When I’m lazy, I’ll just use one shade over my lid. My favourite shades in this palette include Hustle, Creep and Dark Horse.

I have rather severe dark eye circles, so concealer is one make-up item that I cannot do without. Recently, I’ve been using Benefit’s Stay, Don’t Stray as a concealer. It’s marketed as a primer, which means you’re supposed to use it before layering on your concealer and eye make-up, but it comes in a nude shade that conceals my dark circles perfectly well when I have sufficient sleep, so it doubles up as a concealer for me! A little goes a long way. I also like that it doesn’t crease like most concealers.

Benefit’s Dandelion is a life-saver on days when I need that extra radiance boost. My cheeks are naturally rosy so blusher may not be necessary on most days but I like that Dandelion adds an instant glow to my face on days when I need it. It has such a smooth consistency and is surprisingly easy to blend.

False lashes have also worked their way into my daily routine now because it is so easy to remove as compared to mascara. This is also my last step after eyeshadow and eyeliner. My favourite lashes are Dollywink lashes No.1 and No. 2, both of which can be purchased from Watsons stores. I especially like the Watsons store at Nex as it is perpetually well-stocked with Dollywink lashes.

Dollywink lashes come with thin transparent lash bands, which make them very flexible and bendable. The best part is, the lash band is hardly noticeable if you attach the false lashes close to your lash line.

I don’t really use lip products although my drawer is filled with them. I only use them when I have functions/events to attend and among them, Canmake’s Nudy Glow lip gloss is my favourite. It is very opaque and comes in a nude pink shade, which is perfect for enhancing smoky eye make-up. One gripe that I have about this product is that it can be very drying, so it is important to slather on lip balm prior to application.

Here’s the final look. I also added a dash of shimmery white eyeshadow (Majolica Majorca’s WT 963) near my tear ducts to open up my eyes.

I wish I could try out those coloured circle lenses but unfortunately, my astigmatism is way too high. So there, I’ll just have to live with my natural pupils!

My hair is also growing out. I’m wondering if I should continue growing it out (I miss my long hair sometimes) or keep it short. What do you think? I would be very grateful if you could share your views with me!

The Pigeonhole at 52 Duxton Road

August 2, 2011 by Regina Chow 3 Comments

Chilling out with a cup of coffee (or tea/hot chocolate in my case) and just watching the world go by is one of my favourite pastimes.

In our quest to seek out new cafes places, we had the good fortune of chancing upon The Pigeonhole along Duxton Road. A quaint little cafe, it is also home to collectibles from years of yore. My mum, for instance, used to have a sewing machine just like that!

Check out that study desk! It totally reminds me of my desk during secondary school and JC days. How nostalgic!

Besides furniture, The Pigeonhole also has for sale a myriad of rare books covering a broad range of topics including art, music and even politics.

These little pigeonholes are for those of you who want to be added to their mailing list. Just deposit your card into one of these pigeonholes!

The Pigeonhole supports local NGOs, film, music, performance and art. It hosts events and performances occasionally, so if you’re interested in musical/cultural activities, do pop by their website to check out the calendar of events.

Mismatched furniture seems to be a very popular trend these days, but it’s not hard to see why. The unpretentious, homely vibe it brings to the shop makes it easy for patrons to relax and hang out without feeling the need to keep up with appearances.

Other than coffee sourced from Highlander Coffee, The Pigeonhole also offers a wide variety of drinks, alcohol and even main courses. We had their macaroni with cheese, which was very average. If I come here again, I’ll probably skip the food. πŸ˜‰

On the way out, we stumbled upon an antique shop with a compendium of curiosities. Right in front of the store hangs the hilarious banner which you will see below. I wonder if the objective of hanging such a banner is really to drive customers away. πŸ˜›

Finally, here’s a simple outfit that I wore that day. The weather has been scorching hot, so I tend to be in shorts more often than not. I’ve also been recycling my shoes and bag in many of my outfit shots because I’m always in a rush to get out of the house. Time for a change soon!

Choupinette (Mini Sale Post!)

July 31, 2011 by Regina Chow 5 Comments
How has your weekend been? My Sundays are usually spent having lazing around with my other half, having late brunch, wondering around parks and watching DVDs in the comfort of my home.
Today, we had brunch at Choupinette, a quaint little French cafe along Bukit Timah Road (beside Coronation Plaza). There’s a very homely feel about this place. It’s almost like a french cottage, with french music wafting in the air, beautiful floral paintings and wooden furniture juxtaposed against mismatched chairs reupholstered in eclectic fabrics.

We shared a milk chocolate eclair, which was very delicious. The eclairs here run out pretty quickly, so thank goodness we ordered ours at the start of the meal. JW had the beef stew with mashed potatoes while I went for the Eggs Royale set, which is essentially poached eggs with salmon on toasted bread. The set also comes with a juice and a hot drink of your choice from the menu.

The stew is nothing out of the ordinary but the Eggs Royale is beyond flavourful. Usually, I get sick of eggs benedict very easily because of the rich hollandaise sauce, but the salmon adds an additional dimension to this dish, making it less of a challenge to make it to the finishing line.

Here’s what I wore for brunch.

Crochet Puffed sleeve Blouse from Korea

White Tiered Skirt from Forever21

Transparent Heels with clip-on flower from Far East Plaza (made in Korea)

Bag from Naraya (from my Bangkok trip)

I’ve been on the lookout for tops with interesting collars and this lovely chiffon puffed sleeve top from Korea (made in Korea tag is intact) caught my eye! The intricate crochet details literally blew me away.

As a reward for reading this far, I’ve brand new pieces (very limited quantity) of this beautiful Korean blouse for sale!

Price & Measurements: – ALL SOLD –
Crochet Puffed Sleeve Blouse: S$32.90 (inclusive of normal mail postage)
Width: 17.5″ Length: 24″
It’s slightly sheer, so it would be best to pair it with a bandeau/tube or camisole. πŸ˜‰

If you’re interested in purchasing this blouse, do drop me an e-mail at regina.chow@gmail.com to order.

Please note that I will not be responsible for any loss of items via normal mail postage. All goods sold are also non-refundable.
