Channeling Song Hye Kyo’s Casual Chic Style in Descendants of the Sun

June 22, 2016 by Regina Chow No Comments
Effortlessly chic. That’s how I would describe Song Hye Kyo’s style in Descendants of the Sun. Her wardrobe staples include easy to wear pieces such as breezy shirts, light linen shorts, A-line skirts and casual t-shirt dresses. If you’re interested to find out more about the outfits, bags and accessories that the Korean star wore, you can check out my previous post here.
Perhaps I was subconsciously influenced by her style because when I threw on this minimalist jacket set, my hubby immediately exclaimed “That looks like something from Descendants of the Sun!”. I was in total disbelief till I looked in the mirror and even then, I still thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.
So anyway, to cut a long story short, this confirms that while we may not look like Song Hye Kyo, we can certainly replicate her easy breezy summer style (and hopefully steal the heart of someone like Song Joong Ki)! The oversized BF jacket looks similar to what Song Hye Kyo wore when she first arrived in Uruk.  I am all for jacket
sets as you can break them up and wear each piece separately. Plus, the minimalist aesthetic ensures that you get plenty of mileage.
My only regret –  I wasn’t able to complete the look with the Singapore Air Show as my backdrop. Just kidding. Give me Nanjing’s Laomendong district any day. Not only does it look photogenic, you’ll also find quaint little shops and cafes at every turn. I had fun exploring and adding touches of modernity to the ancient Chinese architecture with this outfit.

Fashion: Jessica Jung’s 5 Best Outfits with Cropped Pants

November 11, 2015 by Regina Chow No Comments

If you keep up with K-pop news, you’d know that Jessica Jung, one of the most integral members of the wildly popular girl group Girls Generation, was recently ousted from the group for wishing to pursue her passion in design.
It takes not just courage, but also sheer determination and tenacity to go against the tide to pursue your passion. Why should anyone be penalized for that? Jessica is highly talented (she was one of the lead vocalists) and was one of the most dedicated employees (she’d trained with the company since she was 12 years old). I find it strange that the entertainment company she was with had to resort to such a drastic decision.
Nonetheless, Jessica’s astute fashion sense and eye for design will take her places. I believe this is definitely not the last we will see of her, especially since her label Blanc & Eclare is poised to break into the Asian high fashion market. This ambitious trendsetter is just about to embark on a new chapter in her career.
With Jessica’s unceremonious departure from Girls Generation, I thought I’d do a post that showcases her OOTDs. As there were just too many hits from the Korean-American beauty, and I’ve been meaning to share my take on the cropped pants trend, here is a list of the girly fashionista’s five best looks in cropped pants:
1. Sleek White
Credit: Kfashionista
Together with her younger sister Krystal, Jessica appeared in the July 2014 issue of 1st Look Magazine in a set of MCM Spring/Summer 2014 crop top and floral-trimmed pants, paired with an MCM Munchen Cute Monster cross-body bag and electric blue heels. She looked very much at home on the streets of New York City, where the photo shoot took place.
 2. All Black

Jessica’s airport fashion has always garnered appreciation from fans and fashion critics alike. Her sleek, professional look at Gimpo Airport in March 2014 is befitting of a career woman in her prime. Her Balmain Jacquard double-breasted blazer, structured Hermes Kelly handbag (adorned with an Hermes Twilly scarf) and French tips pumps are modern yet classic pieces that she is obviously a fan of. If you noticed, her personal fashion label is big on this clean-cut yet feminine look too. I love how the scarf adds a jolt of colour in this black-and-white ensemble. This look is perfect for the elegant businesswoman on the go.
 3. Denim

Aside from the polished, professional look, Jessica sometimes dresses down to thaw her ice-queen image. Case in point: this smart casual denim and chambray outfit. The chambray shirt and cuffed boyfriend jeans contribute to a breezy summer airport style, while Jessica adds a touch of her usual modern sophistication with ankle-strap pumps and a clutch. The result is an effortlessly chic ensemble that can be easily put together by you and me.

4. Leather

After taking part in a photo shoot with Nylon Magazine, the Jung sisters were spotted at a Jimmy Choo event in Los Angeles, flaunting their model-esque figures and flawless fashion sense. While Krystal went for a modern business-casual look with a blue blouse and subtly patterned black pants, Jessica opted for an edgier look with a sleek crop top and leather cigarette pants. Needless to say, good genes run in the family.

5. Tweed

Jessica goes for a glam, luxe look in this boxy wool-blended tweed jacket from Marc Jacobs, juxtaposed against dark brown leather pants and opulent black and gold T-strapped suede pumps from Yves Saint Laurent. This stylish preppy chic outfit instantly sets her apart from the crowd, and that Louis Vuitton clutch adds the perfect finishing touch.

Are you a fan of Jessica’s style? How do you wear cropped pants? Do share your thought on them with me!

Fashion: 10 instances of Kpop Stars’ Cardigan Obsession

August 18, 2015 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
Love it or hate it, the preppy hipster look is a
major trend and cardigans play an important role in completing this look.

Thanks to the rise of modern British aesthetics,
and the revival of the preppy look first popularised in the early 1900s, cardigans
are receiving new-found appreciation among the younger demographic, and
particularly among the boys. Yes, for the first time ever, I will be sharing
some looks that the boys can relate to. After all, fashion is not only for the
fairer sex, and I am secretly hoping that my hubby will be able to pick up a
tip or two from this post too (oops, looks like that it’s no longer a secret)!
For the ladies, cardigans used to be regarded as
boring granny clothes. But with the explosion of prints and cuts these days,
cardigans are anything but boring. Just take a cue from the K-pop artists who
are unafraid to experiment with the wildest prints and designs. Sure, there are
hits and misses, but they have definitely made the humble old cardigan come
alive again.
You could break all the rules and wear cardigans the K-pop way, but first let’s review
the good, the bad, and the ugly.
1. Donghae

Super Junior’s baby-faced looker Donghae looks
impossibly adorable in this collegiate outfit, complete with a bow-tie and geek
glasses.
2. Nichkhun
Speaking of baby-face, here’s another one who does
not seem to age. 2PM’s Nichkhun does college cool for South Korean fashion
label Basic House with boat shoes, stripes and a bright cardigan.
3. Kyuhyun
Taking a leaf from his hyung‘s book,
Super Junior’s Kyuhyun does the bow-tie and cardigan look too, this time with a
mustard-coloured cardigan that brightens up the talk show he is co-hosting.
4. Park Bom
2NE1’s four-dimensional (code word for kooky)
powerhouse singer, Park Bom, looks right at home in her ice-cream printed
cotton cardigan. I am sure that you would agree that this cardigan is as
whimsical as her personality.
5. Shinee
Shinee looks ready for the eggnog and log cakes in
this colour-coordinated getup that involves scarves, beanies and, yes,
cardigans.
6. Shinee
Boy, they sure are fond of cardigans in a multitude
of colours and prints.
7. Minho
Here’s another instance of Shinee – this time just
the “visual” of the group, Minho – showing some love for the
cardigan. Unfortunately, he looks like a rejected Christmas tree or a child’s
failed art project.
8. G-Dragon
Dubbed South Korea’s most stylish dresser, Big
Bang’s leader G-Dragon manages to pull off a punk look even with a muted grey
cashmere cardigan from Thom Browne.
9. Jessica
Girls Generation’s Jessica does mixed prints right
with a slouchy knit cardigan and printed dress. Those brown ankle booties complete
the laidback vibe of the outfit.

10. Tiffany
Like her fellow member, Girls Generations’ Tiffany
rocks a printed cardi. The bright scarlet print on her oversized cardigan makes
for a majestic airport entrance. Plus, it totally goes with her hair.
Well, I did warn you there were hits and misses
(I’m still scarred by Minho’s awful cardigan), but at least they’re not afraid
to give it a try!
Now, which look is your favourite?

Fashion: Jun Ji Hyun’s Style in “Man From Another Star”/ “You Who Came From The Stars” (Part 2)

May 15, 2014 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

The Korean drama series “Man From Another Star” or “You Who Came From The Stars” may have ended a while back, but Jun Ji Hyun’s (the lead actress who played Cheon Song Yi) stylish outfits  have etched an incredibly lasting impression on me. I am sure I am not alone.
If you are interested, you may wish to read my previous post on Jun Ji Hyun’s Style in the drama series here.
In Part 2 of her style journal, I would like to draw your attention to 5 beautiful jackets showcased on the show (I have also included the links should you be keen to purchase them). I was inspired to blog about jackets this time because I will be heading to Japan soon, and the lovely spring weather means that my jackets can finally emerge from the depths of my closet.
1) Burberry Gem Embellished Trench Coat
This attention-grabbing statement coat is a beauty to behold. It is the epitome of femininity and the divine pairing of intricate pastel blue lace with gemstones ensures that you will always be the centre of attention.

2) Louis Vuitton Spring 2014 Ready-To-Wear
Here’s another statement jacket worn by Jun Ji Hyun/Cheon Song Yi at the start of the show. The feather and sequin accents lend dimension and a touch of edginess to the jacket, making it an instant conversation starter.

3) Burberry Long Cotton Gabardine Trench Coat
This classic Burberry trench coat is always a stylish addition to any wardrobe. The flattering design elongates your silhouette and the fact that it comes in a beautiful shade of camel ensures that it will never go out of style. This is certainly a worthwhile investment in my personal opinion.

This lovely trench coat also matches the  Burberry Medium Canvas Check Tote Bag perfectly. Looking effortlessly chic has never been eaiser.

4)  Valentino Spring/Summer 2014 Coat
If you’re feeling more adventurous, perhaps this zebra print Valentino coat would be your cup of tea.  A jacket like this instantly jazzes up any outfit, adding a little pizzazz to the otherwise boring shirt and pants ensemble shown here.

5) Balmain Tweed Blazer
I personally have a soft spot for tweed jackets and blazers. Not only does tweed look and feel absolutely luxurious, it is also the perfect fabric for jackets and blazers because of its structure and durability.
This double-breasted Balmain Tweed Blazer worn by Jun Ji Hyun is versatile for both work and play and I especially like how the gold buttons add contrast and a touch of glamour. This is yet another worthy investment for your wardrobe.

 Which is your favourite?
Do you prefer simple yet classic jackets or would you prefer to push the envelope a little with fashion forward pieces?

Fashion: Jun Ji Hyun's Style in Korean Drama "You Who Came From TheStars"

March 31, 2014 by Regina Chow 1 Comment
Credits: Dramafever

I don’t usually keep up with the latest Korean dramas but everyone’s fascination with popular Korean drama series “You Who Came From The Stars” really piqued my interest. Why was everyone talking about this drama and what was all the hype about?
My curiosity got the better of me eventually and it didn’t take long before I jumped on to the bandwagon. To be completely honest, what got me started on this drama was Jun Ji Hyun’s designer clothes and fashion style, which I have read and heard so much about from magazines and newspapers. Fashion aside, the witty dialogues and chemistry between Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun kept me glued, which really surprised me because most Korean dramas are unable to sustain my interest. To cut a long story short, the drama took me through a whirlwind of emotions and I was constantly entertained. I was laughing uncontrollably at one point and at the next moment, tears would be welling up in my eyes as the ill-fated star-crossed lovers (pun intended) looked into each other’s eyes and wept.
Anyway, before I digress any further, the real purpose of this post is to share the effortlessly stylish outfits donned by lead actress Jun Ji Hyun in her role as Cheon Song Ee.

Here are some of my favourite ensembles from the drama series. I have also included the links below, in case you’re tempted enough to purchase them!

Gucci

Gucci Silk Beach Ball Print Pleated Dress

I love the beach ball prints which exude a quirky vintage vibe that will never go out of style. The modest length also makes it a versatile piece for both work and play

Gucci Kimono Silk Cady Jumpsuit

In this show, even her pajamas look chic enough to be worn out on to the streets! I love the kimono sleeves of this jumpsuit. Although it does resemble comfy pajamas, all you have to do is add a dose of statement accessories and some edgy heels to take this outfit from home to tea with the girls.

Valentino

I wasn’t able to locate this dress and headband set from the Valentino website, hence I assume that it is not up for sale under the ready-to-wear section yet.

I absolutely adore this cute ensemble from Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2014 Collection. The medieval prints and studded headband bring out an old world charm while the contemporary silhouette retains a sense of modernity, making it wearable for all occasions.

 DSquared2

I couldn’t take my eyes off Jun Ji Hyun when I saw her wearing this shirt and skirt ensemble from Dsquared2. What I like about this shirt is its tailoring. It may look somewhat manly, but just look at how flattering the cut is on Jun Ji Hyun. A white shirt is a wardrobe staple, but it takes time to find “the one”. Thankfully for Jun Ji Hyun, I think she has found the perfect white shirt.

Dsquared2 Ubaldo Shirt

Dsquared2 Wool Skirt

Being a fan of vintage clothes makes me more attuned to apparels that give off an unmistakable vintage vibe. That was what attracted me to this well-tailored wool skirt from Dsquared2 which is so on trend. The structured silhouette of the wool midi skirt also makes it the perfect complement to the Ubaldo shirt as it adds a touch of femininity without being overly girly.

D&G

D&G is one of my favourite designers. The designs are distinctly feminine, with fresh interpretations of vintage elements such as baroque prints and 50s-style tailoring.

This is one of my favourite 2-piece sets in the drama series as I can totally see myself wearing this gorgeous ensemble. If you have been reading my blog for a while, I guess it wouldn’t come as  a surprise that I am a huge fan of baroque prints and lace.

D&G Silicia Print Boxy Top

D&G Scalloped Lace Skirt

This adorable floral print dress is another piece that I would add to my wardrobe if I had the chance. It looks completely ordinary when you view it on the website, but when worn (as seen on Jun Ji Hyun), you will realise that its uniqueness lie in the flutter sleeves and the overall vintage vibe that it exudes. This ultra feminine dress is simply perfect for weekend dates or shopping with the girls.

I love dresses with an element of surprise. In this case, the surprise comes in the form of a back bow that drapes over the back like an elegant gift. Simple yet sophisticated, this is yet another classic that will stand the test of time.

Which is your favourite outfit? Frankly, these are so many other outfits from this drama series that deserve to be mentioned. All I did was to narrow down to a couple of my personal favourites to whet your appetite, so if you love fashion as much as I do and you have yet to catch “You Who Came From The Stars”, perhaps it’s about time you do so!
