Rafidah & Mithila’s Wedding

January 1, 2011 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
The last quarter of the year is a popular time for weddings, and I can certainly attest to that, having attended at least 1 wedding per month.
Raf’s wedding was one of the most interesting and memorable weddings that I’ve attended thus far.

The hilarious high energy cheerleader-like dance performances by a group of 8-10 Indian guys, heartfelt speech delivered by the bride’s father and sumptuous buffet spread were the recipe for its success.
I especially liked Raf’s elegant black and white wedding gown. We were all dazzled by the resplendent bride!
It was great catching up with Hui and Wei as well, my friends since uni days. Raf, Hui, Wei and I were pioneering members of a fitness club called Bodyworks that we painstakingly set up in uni.

Finally, here’re pictures of Hui and me with the Alice in Wonderland inspired Christmas decor at the hotel lobby, as well as my newly manicured nails.

Have a great Sunday ahead!

Yvonne and Adrian’s Wedding

December 19, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments

I had the privilege of attending Yvonne and Adrian’s wedding in September at Marina Mandarin Hotel. They tied the knot after years of courtship! Like JW and I, they’ve been together since JC! Remarkable isn’t it?

I also had lots of fun catching up with friends at the dinner. Food was pretty good as well, which explains why many of my friends have booked Marina Mandarin for their wedding celebrations.

Here’s what I wore to the wedding – a nude lace maxi dress from Number Fifty@Mandarin Gallery.

Tiong Bahru Market

December 17, 2010 by Regina Chow 6 Comments
Hawker centres in Singapore offer a wide selection of tasty local delicacies at affordable prices. Some of my favourites include Clementi Food Centre, Tiong Bahru Market, Old Airport Road Food Centre, Adam Road Food Centre and Maxwell Market. These hawker centres are famous island-wide so I’m sure they need no introduction. πŸ™‚
I had some Char Kway Teow at Tiong Bahru Market recently. My mum suggested that I try the Char Kway Teow stall manned by an old uncle as this is supposedly the famous Tiong Bahru Char Kway Teow stall.

I ordered the S$2 plate. Although the stall is pretty generous with ingredients, I prefer more black sauce on my Char Kway Teow as it adds to the overall flavour. This isn’t the best that I’ve tried but it’s value-for-money and worth a visit.

I hope to visit the Char Kway Teow stall at Bukit Merah Hawker Centre soon, especially after reading ieatishootipost’s recommendation!

Finally, here’s what I wore that day:

Pretty shoes to complete the look:

Let Me In

December 17, 2010 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

It has been a while since I posted any outfit photos, so here’s one for your viewing pleasure.

This was what I wore to town on a Saturday night to catch the critically acclaimed horror movie, “Let Me In”, a remake of the Swedish film “Let the Right One In”.

I especially love the frilly top and the pretty statement bow behind. Come to think of it, the ruffles and frills of this ensemble are reminiscent of a Latin dance costume isn’t it?

Now, on to the movie. Having read the review in 8days magazine, I thought “Let Me In” was more of a thriller than a horror flick as the review seemingly focused more on the bond between an ostracized little boy who was a victim of bullying at school and a 12-year old female vampire. How terrifying could a 12 year old child vampire be right?

I was wrong. I ended up watching the movie through my fingers, my palms cupping the cheeks of my face. Admittedly, I am not the bravest of souls, but the drastic contrast between the demure, innocent 12-year old child and her transformation into a hideous blood sucking monster was too shocking.

On one hand, she was the reliable child-like confidante to a fellow 12 year old boy, but on the other hand, she was also a blood curdling menace who looks nothing like a 12 year old at the sight of blood.

One of the most frightening scenes was at an isolated underpass, where she lay in ambush in complete darkness, pretending to be injured and begging an unsuspecting jogger to carry her before attacking him. The scene was so gory it still makes me think twice about helping children in need!

The gore, the blood gushing down her fangs and her blood-soaked clothes (so unglamorous!!) sent shivers down my spine. These elements were ubiquitous throughout the movie. I wondered why she didn’t have the finesse of the vampires in Twilight and could never seem to clean up after herself. She always had blood dripping from her mouth, her clothes and the rest of her body!

I honestly couldn’t understand why the little boy never once flinched when she wrapped her bloody hands and body around him! I swear I would’ve died on the spot if someone did that to me.

Savage aside, the plot was very novel as it explored the psychological struggles, loneliness and trauma that a viciously bullied child would typically experience. The male lead was driven to desperation (omg his only friend was a vampire!) and the female vampire became his only companion for the rest of his life. The boy got himself a companion and life-time protection from bullies while the girl vampire got herself a slave to hunt down innocent human beings for their blood.

I don’t know how to explain this, but the film was touching yet inexplicably disturbing at the same time. I’ll rate this 4/5.

Go watch it if you haven’t already done so. I bet you would have sleepless nights thereafter. πŸ˜‰

Camel & Red

November 6, 2010 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
This week has been a whirlwind of a week on all fronts. I am so glad the long weekend is finally here! Well, aren’t we all? πŸ™‚
It has been a while since I last did an outfit post. I thought it would be timely for me to share this season’s fall colours with you before I continue writing about Austria and its intriguing sights. Here’s what I wore to MBS:

Camel is the new black for Fall 2010. I’ve always loved this colour but I didn’t know that this was THE colour for fall this year, at least not till I hit the stores and flipped through the magazines.

I like red too, but I don’t usually wear a lot of this colour for some reason. Coincidentally, bright red is another exciting hue to watch out for this season.

Mix these two colours together and voila, you’re all ready to paint the streets red this fall! Who would have thought that red and camel were such a good match?

Vienna, the other love of my life

October 31, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments
Vienna, otherwise known as Wien, is the capital of Austria and its economic, political and cultural hub. Unbeknownst to many, Vienna has been consistently ranked the top city globally for quality of life, and it is so easy to see why once you set foot in this captivating city.

Not only is Vienna characterized by its rich cultural heritage, courtesy is a way of life. The friendly locals are well-mannered and ever ready to lend a helping hand, the streets are spotlessly clean and the sights and sounds are just impossibly fascinating. Everything was so surreal it was as if I had arrived in a city modeled after Disneyland.

Most importantly, these positive attributes permeate practically every stratum of its society, creating a wonderful living experience for inhabitants and visitors alike.

So enthralled am I by what this city has to offer that if I could choose to live in another city outside of Singapore, Vienna would most definitely top my list!

Anniversary Lunch at Iggy’s

October 25, 2010 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
We celebrated the 10th year anniversary of our relationship in July at Iggy’s, shortly after I returned from my Europe work trip.

A decade seems like a long time, but it sure doesn’t feel like 10 years has passed. Among our circle of friends, we often get questions on how we keep the spark alive. I am no expert and I don’t really have the answer, but I guess it all boils down to a combination of factors.

While our hobbies are vastly different, we do share similar interests, like checking out museums , new food haunts and travelling. Differences aside, our relationship is also underpinned by similar values, principles and most importantly, respect.

We give each other a lot of space too. I think it’s unreasonable to expect your other half to make significant changes to his lifestyle after getting together with you or after marriage, and morphing into an attention seeking control freak is bound to scare the life out of your guy.

He’s free to pursue his interests (e.g. rockclimbing haha) and the same applies to me (yay to shopping!). Being a Sagittarius means that I embrace freedom, and I believe that freedom should also be extended to my partner.

So yup, I guess that sums it up. πŸ™‚ Now it’s time to let the pictures do the talking.

Here’s what I wore that day – a frilly nude coloured top from Number Fifty@Mandarin Gallery paired with black cigarette pants.

Food was decently good and service was immaculate, but I kept thinking about Clementi satay, katong laksa, among other local hawker delights. I always miss hawker food when I return from overseas.

JW’s dessert was tasty, but my beetroot flavoured sherbet was a little too funky for my taste buds. I much prefer Awfully Chocolate’s dark chocolate ice-cream or Udders’ Mao Shan Wang Durian ice-cream (SLURP!!!).

Couple shot to end the day.

Part of his anniversary gift to me was a trip to Austria, which I’ll be blogging about pretty soon. The trip was awesome and it felt every bit like a 2nd honeymoon! πŸ˜‰

A Little Out of the Ordinary

October 17, 2010 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Yes, I’m finally back in the sunny island after close to two weeks in Austria. Before I get down to blogging about one of my favourite countries on this globe, here’s an outfit shot that I took some time back.

Some of you may recall that I purchased this pair of towering platforms a while ago. Here, I paired it with a slouchy beige minimalist top with black high waist pants, not my usual style, but I figured it doesn’t hurt to be more adventurous sometimes.

Jimbaran Bay

October 16, 2010 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
I was told that everyone should visit Jimbaran Bay to catch the beautiful sunset, albeit in the company of overpriced seafood. Unfortunately, the latter was true but the former was not. I didn’t think much of the sunset nor the seafood . My travel companions shared the same view and we all agreed that we probably should have headed down to Rock Bar instead.

Nonetheless, it’s the company that matters and we still had fun camwhoring while munching on our less than satisfactory dinner.

That being said, if you ever head to Bali, I would suggest that you try the grilled corn found at local pushcarts. They’re marinated in local spices and absolutely tantalizing to the taste buds.
As the adage goes, a picture says a thousand words.

Thank goodness we had these flavourful corn cobs to fill our tummies!

Divine Wonderland

October 16, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments
Given my lack of enthusiasm for the sun and sea, much of our time in Bali was spent shopping and chilling out at quaint little cafes. One of my favourite cafes in Bali is Divine Wonderland, a quiet respite nestled amidst the hustle and bustle of the Seminyak district.

As the name suggests, this is a cafe/bar inspired by Alice in Wonderland. It is a cafe by day and a bar by night, so travellers have the privilege of popping by at any time of the day.

The French Baroque theme is prevalent in the interior design of this hidden treasure. The deep red walls, contrasted with floral baroque styled wallpaper and cascading curtains, lend a warm and cozy feel to the atmosphere.

Highlights of the cafe include the oversized upholstered armchairs and the collection of queer but nevertheless artistic paintings selectively placed on the walls.

What fun it was to be transported to another realm, a surreal fantasy world, complete with yummy milkshakes and fantastic photo-taking opportunities.

And of course, who could forget the obligatory shot with the oversized armchair?
Divine Wonderland is definitely worth a visit if you love quirky cafes and Alice in Wonderland. πŸ™‚
