Fashion: Neutral Minimalist & Fashion Steps Out 2016

March 25, 2016 by Regina Chow No Comments
Black, grey and neutral shades form the foundation for a minimalist wardrobe. I used to think neutral colours such as beige were boring, but I couldn’t be more wrong.
Just as how grey comes in 50 shades (or more), beige too doesn’t disappoint where the colour wheel is concerned. I came across this simplified colour chart from fellow blogger Glam and City, and gosh, just look at how many neutral shades there are!
Credit: Glam And City
It is amazing just how many looks you can pull off when you have a wardrobe filled with pieces in these colours. You’ll never look like a clown again, even if you decide to pick out an outfit with your eyes closed.

Take this outfit that I put together over the weekend as an example. I paired my tan culottes with a nude top that came with choker-like details and an asymmetrical hem, not forgetting my trusty New Balance sneakers in beige.
Not too shabby an ensemble isn’t it? The tonal contrast added dimension to the nude-on-nude outfit while the little details and tailored silhouettes amped up the style factor.

It is no secret now that I am a minimalist convert, and if you need more reasons to convince yourself to make the switch, perhaps you may wish to read my previous article on minimalism here:
Why I Adopted the Minimalist Style

Fashion Fridays: Meeting Sophia Webster in Singapore

May 2, 2014 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
I attended the launch of Sophia Webster’s “Supa Dupa Fly” Spring Summer 2014 collection at On Pedder recently, where I got the opportunity to meet the designer herself. I have been eyeing Sophia Webster’s covetable designs ever since she launched her first collection, so you can only imagine how excited I was to finally meet her in person!

She
is such a warm, friendly and affable lady. Despite being five months
pregnant at the time of her visit, she was a picture of radiance in her
playful monochromatic ensemble.

Pardon my goofy smile here. We were laughing about how difficult it was to find a suitable spot for her autograph because of the limited space on the soles. And if you were wondering, yes, that pair of gorgeous butterfly-inspired gladiator heels are now mine.

You would probably have seen a close-up shot of my beautiful Electra heels if you follow me on my instagram account (@reginachow_sg).

I put them on the very next day for a day out with my hubby and it was such a breeze to walk in. The heels may appear reed thin, but they are by far one of the most stable and comfortable pair of heels that I have in my wardrobe.

The “Supa Dupa Fly” collection
is inspired by insects such as butterflies and beetles, and it is amazing how Sophia Webster transforms something as unexpected as
butterfly wings or beetle wings into delectable statement heels that are
instant conversation starters.

In fact, every pair of Sophia Webster shoes creates a fashion statement and takes you to a fairytale world, where everything is sweet, pretty and nice. Think fluttering butterflies, candy floss colors and polka dots. If you love shoes that embrace femininity with a touch of quirkiness, you’ll fall head over heels in love with Sophia Webster.

The whimsical style of Sophia
Webster’s’ first collection in SS2013 immediately captured the hearts of many
and won her the British Fashion Awards for Emerging Accessories
Designer. The former design assistant to Nicholas Kirkwood may be a new kid on the block, but she has already garnered an impressive celebrity following, from the likes of Rihanna, Angelababy, Sarah Jessica Parker and Chloe Moretz.

Here are some of my favourites from the “Supa Dupa Fly” collection:

The future certainly looks
bright for Sophia Webster. She is always full of surprises and I
honestly can’t wait to see what is up her sleeve next!

Rosebullet & Dip Drops Autumn 2013 Collection Preview Party

September 2, 2013 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Karen and I love Japanese fashion, and Rosebullet and Dip Drops are just two of our favourite Japanese fashion labels.  When we found out about the preview party for their upcoming Autumn collection, we knew we had to make our way down!
Korean street
style may be all the rage right now, but Japanese fashion always holds a
special place in my heart because it embraces femininity and grace with a
variety of preppy and girly styles for petite ladies like us. More importantly, quality is
assured as Japanese brands always pride themselves on excellent
workmanship and packaging.
It is a pity that there are only a handful of
Japanese fashion labels in Singapore thus far. I hope more of these brands (think Liz Lisa, Snidel and Dazzlin) will find their way to our shores soon!
Although the autumn collection was the highlight of the party, there was also a 30% discount on the summer collection and members were entitled to a further 10% off. While most of the items were already out of size (not surprising), I managed to score a pretty pastel blue eyelet dress. I wore it to Laniege’s blogger event recently and you will get to see it here in due course.
Till then, here’s Karen and I clad in Japanese labels for our obligatory outfit of the day shot. 😉
Here are some detailed shots of my outfit for that day. I was dressed in Dip Drops from head to toe.

Blouse, Skirt and Shoes from Dip Drops
Bag from Liz Lisa
Socks from Korea

SIA Cup at the Singapore Turf Club

June 19, 2012 by Regina Chow No Comments

Thanks to the Singapore Turf Club, I had the opportunity to attend the SIA Cup last month along with Karen, William and Hong Peng. As we could each invite a friend, it was wonderful to be able to share the excitement of this fun-filled signature event with good friends Sushi and JP, among other new faces.

Unlike the previous races that I attended, this was the first time that we got up close and personal with the horses.

We could almost reach out to touch the horses and it was absolutely fascinating to see these agile creatures sashay on the parade grounds, putting their best foot forward in their race attire like fashion models on the runway.
You could also tell if the horses were in tip-top shape from the way they trotted around the parade grounds. Some gave their handlers a hard time as they were all fired up and ready to charge (which is a good sign I believe!), while others appeared more docile and obedient. Lady luck was shining on me that night because I’ve never had much luck with horses but this time, I finally won!

Did I also mention that we had the good fortune of meeting Mediacorp celebrities Thomas Ong and Priscelia Chan ? There wasn’t much time for mingling but we certainly wasted no time when it came to taking photos with the stars.

And of course, we had to take pictures on the red carpet!

JP and me

Pretty ladies all in a row

Now for the guys.

Yu Hao, William, Zi Yuan and Hong Peng

We couldn’t have left the lovely SQ air stewardesses out, could we?

Now, here’s presenting to you the amazing lady who ensured that everything went like clockwork. Many many thanks to Jessie for inviting us to be part of this spectacular event!

Group photo before we called it a night!

My dress and lace pillbox hat for the night were from Dustbunny Vintage. In fact, Karen, Sushi and I were all dressed in Dustbunny Vintage dresses! I know I’ve said this for the umpteenth time, but Pia definitely has the most amazing dresses and accessories for every occasion!

Queen Elizabeth II Cup

May 13, 2012 by Regina Chow 1 Comment

As you would have read in my previous post, I was invited to the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at the Singapore Turf Club recently.

As with most races, especially overseas ones, attendees usually turn up dressed to the nines, topped with an elaborate headpiece or glamorous hat. It was such great fun catching up with Jessie from the Turf Club and of course Karen (whom I meet all the time) and Eunice. 😉 Do you like our hats?

Here’s a close-up of my hat.:)

The event was held at the Marquee, where guests were treated to a sumptuous buffet fare and colourful cocktails.
Amidst food, flowing conversations and the races, new friendships were forged too. I was acquainted with Shun Jian, who owns personal development blog RichGrad.com. He only appeared in one group photo, because this nice, gentlemanly guy was helping me to take photos with everyone else. 😉

I also caught up briefly with Sebastian and Xing, Karen’s friends whom I first met at a party at Lucky 13!

I was so glad to meet Irene, who blogs at Rene Memory List too. We first met at the Longines Singapore Gold Cup in November 2011. She’s such a sweet and friendly lady, you’ll feel completely at ease around her.

I invited my friend Stacie to the event too, and we had such a ball of a time. You know how girls are..all we do is chat non-stop!

With Karen, Benjamin of Chocolate Pistol fame and his friend. These two guys are some of the most stylish men I’ve seen around!

I was fortunate to be shortlisted for the Hats on Track Competition, where guests could vote for their favourite hat of the evening. From the pictures, you can see that I was surrounded by a bevy of tall Caucasian beauties. While I was proud to be one of the only two Asians in the competition, I couldn’t help but feel really short next to the towering ladies around me!

They are pretty gorgeous, aren’t they?

In case you were wondering, no, I didn’t win the competition. There were just so many immaculate ladies with outstandingly beautiful hats to choose from!

We also had the opportunity to take a tour around the turf club. That was when we witnessed the jockeys weighing themselves right after the race. They are so light, even with all the equipment! On a completely random note, JW and I always joke that he should become a jockey because he’s so incredibly light. 😛

We visited the Champage Room, which is where the prize-giving ceremony usually takes place. Check out the row of champagne bottles in small, medium and extra large sizes. Haha, this room certainly isn’t called the Champage Room for nothing.

Group shot with all the bloggers and guests at our two tables.

Finally, here’s my outfit for the evening. The dress was a Valentine’s gift from JW a while back. This alluring beauty hails from Dustbunny Vintage. I’ve been patronizing Pia’s shop since years ago and I adore her exclusive selection of unique cocktail dresses.

For those of you who are interested in horses, racing, and horse-racing, you may want to head down to Nex, B2 Level today. The Singapore Racing Festival is now on and you’ll get to meet the beautiful Turf Belles, Singapore Turf Club’s very own ambassadors!

Radio DJ Lin Pei Fen will also be there at the roadshow, which takes place from 11am to 9pm today. Head on down if you’re free!
