Melben Seafood with Jun

January 7, 2011 by Regina Chow 3 Comments
One weekend not too long ago, Jun and I decided to have dinner at Melben as I’ve never been there before.

Jun and I have been friends for more than a decade now, and I’ll like to think that we still look as youthful as the first time we met! (For those who beg to differ, we would appreciate if you could hold your tongues forever. :P)

I know I’m slow. Practically everyone I know in Singapore has already tried Melben Seafood and given it their thumbs up. For the uninitiated (otherwise known as “suaku people” in Singlish), Melben Seafood is a famous crab joint tucked away in an HDB estate in Ang Mo Kio. Ordinarily, one wouldn’t expect a neighborhood seafood restaurant to draw huge crowds, but Melben is in a different league altogether. Waiting in line for at least half an hour appears to be the norm. In addition to that, we had to wait an additional 20 minutes or so for our food to be served.

Well, good things are worth waiting for. Ravenous by the time our Crab beehoon and Pork Ribs in Butter Sauce arrived, we devoured everything at lightning speed in a bid to satiate our hunger. I liked the milky flavourful soup that came with the crab beehoon and the pork ribs soaked in delicious buttery gravy.

It’s not difficult to cook seafood (especially crabs) in my opinion. Rather, the difficulty lies in complementing the seafood with the right sauces to enhance the overall flavour. In this instance, Melben is certainly unrivalled.

For those who have yet to give Melben a shot, here’s the address for your easy reference:

Blk 232 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 #01-1222

Miu Miu Nails

January 4, 2011 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

Just had my nails done today by Clara. They’re so pretty I just had to post a photo!

I was utterly amazed by Clara’s artistic talent and how effortless it was for her to draw these immaculate little birds on my nails. My nails were done in the blink of an eye!

F1 2010

January 4, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments
These photos are long overdue, but the fun times we had remain fresh in my memory. I hardly talk about work due to its confidential nature but I must say I have some of the best colleagues around and I’m thankful to have their company in office. πŸ™‚

Victorian Lace – SOLD OUT-

January 2, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments

I fell in love with this beautiful work of art simply because it exudes sophistication and femininity with the perfect combination of chiffon and lace.

It’s a versatile piece that can be paired with pants/a high waist skirt for work. You can also dress it down with shorts for a casual chic weekend look. Most importantly, the workmanship and material are of excellent quality. The elasticized hem also gives it a nice shape so you don’t end up looking frumpy.

As the material looks sheer, I was initially worried that I’ll have to wear an inner piece (what a bother!) so that it’ll be appropriate for work. However, after trying it on with a nude/skin-coloured undergarment, I can assure you that it doesn’t look sheer at all once you put it on!

And now for the good news! I have two brand new pieces of this lovely top for sale at a pocket-friendly price of S$29 (inclusive of normal mail postage). I only have one in beige and one in white. It’ll fit XS-M (UK size 6-10 comfortably). I’m a UK size 6.

Click on the images below to enlarge. πŸ™‚

1) Beige -SOLD

2) White – SOLD

E-mail me at regina.chow@gmail.com to purchase this! πŸ˜‰

By the way, I’m wearing mine to work tomorrow!!

Rafidah & Mithila’s Wedding

January 1, 2011 by Regina Chow 4 Comments
The last quarter of the year is a popular time for weddings, and I can certainly attest to that, having attended at least 1 wedding per month.
Raf’s wedding was one of the most interesting and memorable weddings that I’ve attended thus far.

The hilarious high energy cheerleader-like dance performances by a group of 8-10 Indian guys, heartfelt speech delivered by the bride’s father and sumptuous buffet spread were the recipe for its success.
I especially liked Raf’s elegant black and white wedding gown. We were all dazzled by the resplendent bride!
It was great catching up with Hui and Wei as well, my friends since uni days. Raf, Hui, Wei and I were pioneering members of a fitness club called Bodyworks that we painstakingly set up in uni.

Finally, here’re pictures of Hui and me with the Alice in Wonderland inspired Christmas decor at the hotel lobby, as well as my newly manicured nails.

Have a great Sunday ahead!

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2011 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

Happy New Year! 2010 was a great year with friends and family, but I’m sure there are better years to come!

In the past year, I’m glad I was able to foster closer ties with buddies who have been there for me for the past decade or more while bonding with new friends and extending my social circle.

Most importantly, I’ve said yes several times to various opportunities presented to me, especially opportunities that require me to step out of my comfort zone.

To me, life is not just about keeping your loved ones close to your heart, but it is also about exploring new horizons and having different experiences.

In 2011, I endeavour to spend more time with my family. I do make an effort to spend time with family, but somehow I feel that I ought to spend even more time with them, especially with my parents and my two grandmothers (they’re in their 80s and 90s! Amazing right?).

I don’t want regret to be on the cards when it’s too late, if you know what I mean. πŸ™‚

So, treasure your loved ones before it’s too late! This is my new year resolution. Simple and succinct.

As for now, enjoy the weekend before work begins again on 3rd Jan!

BestBuyWorld

December 29, 2010 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
Merry Christmas everyone! Apologies for the lack of updates. I’ve been attending gatherings and parties till the wee hours of the morning. It doesn’t help that work has been keeping me busy too.
Anyhow, I’ll always try to squeeze in some time for online shopping.

I’ve been hooked onto BestBuyworld ever since my friend Lyndie recommended the site to me. Nope, this is not an advertorial. I’m writing about them only because I love their wide range of beauty products at 15-20% off listed prices in stores and their excellent service.

This is the only website I know that delivers your items right to your doorstep when you purchase at least $50 worth of products. And, I bet you didn’t expect this…..they accept cash on delivery!! You can even tell them precisely when you want the goods to be delivered!

I’ve been buying my holy grail lancome eye cream and falsies from them as well.

You can find the falsies here. I’ve been using this particular brand of falsies for a couple of months now. They’re very durable! Here’re pics to show what they look like on my eyes.

They look pretty natural but you can easily amp up the glam factor with the right eyeshadow. Curling the falsies helps too.

Time for me to finish up some work. Happy Shopping!!

David Archuleta’s Showcase

December 22, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments

I had the privilege of attending David Archuleta’s showcase in Singapore in Nov, thanks to Jun who had media passes.

Honestly, I didn’t really know his songs (except one maybe?) but he’s pretty likable in a goofy and down-to-earth way. You should have seen the snaking line of crazy fans who braved the rain and queued outside Zouk for hours!

Reminded me of the times when I actually went a little berserk over HK rock band, Beyond. I was in my early teens then with a loose screw (or more) who often hung out at Takashimaya (the hip hangout for teens then) for hours on end.

There was a CD/DVD shop at the basement of Takashimaya and it used to air Beyond’s concert video everyday on the TV at the window display. My friends and I would stand around, in awe of the band and their wonderful songs. That was how my obsession with them started, albeit only after the death of the lead singer. I remember listening to their songs everyday (I can still remember the lyrics of their Cantonese songs!!!), queuing up at HMV at Heeren for their autograph session and hiring a cab to stalk them all over the island.

On hindsight, I still can’t believe I actually did that. I was young and impressionable, bursting with passion for a band that has since faded into oblivion. Nonetheless, I still sing 1 or 2 of their songs during KTV sessions, just to reminisce the good old days.

Now, I’m passionate about Mozart and all other classical music composers (who are ALL dead, by the way..).

Tell me this is not a sign of age!

Yvonne and Adrian’s Wedding

December 19, 2010 by Regina Chow No Comments

I had the privilege of attending Yvonne and Adrian’s wedding in September at Marina Mandarin Hotel. They tied the knot after years of courtship! Like JW and I, they’ve been together since JC! Remarkable isn’t it?

I also had lots of fun catching up with friends at the dinner. Food was pretty good as well, which explains why many of my friends have booked Marina Mandarin for their wedding celebrations.

Here’s what I wore to the wedding – a nude lace maxi dress from Number Fifty@Mandarin Gallery.
