Macau

September 21, 2008 by Regina Chow 2 Comments
This was the first time I travelled overseas on Tiger Airways. I know, you guys are going to say I’m so ‘atas’ right – only travel by Singapore Airlines! Well, the experience wasn’t that bad for the price. I would say it was definitely value-for-money.

What I really didn’t like though was the budget terminal. My friend CH warned me about the state of the terminal the day before I left. In his exact words, “wah good luck, you will understand why it’s called budget terminal when you see it.”

Thanks to him, I was prepared for the worst. Images of decaying walls and a dilapidated visage with cockroaches scampering across the floors flooded my mind.

To be honest, the condition of the terminal was quite tolerable by my standards, but what really irked me was the lame tagline, “Budget Terminal. Enjoy the difference.” Check it out in the picture below:

Like hello?? Are you trying to suan me?! This has got to be sarcasm at its best.

Day 1: Macau

After checking into Metropark Hotel, we spent the rest of the day exploring the place by foot. Got lost in one of the underground carparks which had so many exits that we were nearly trapped.

One of the famous casino hotels, Wynn.

Our first meal in Macau, taken near Metropark Hotel.

Off to St Paul’s ruins. It reminded me of a quaint, picturesque European town. The only downside was that the weather was so humid you could literally feel hot air emanating from the ground.

This was also where we took some of our casual shots at night.

The air-con in the Singing Bean cafe was too hard for us to resist. Surprisingly, the cafe served really tasty creme brulee too.

Apparently, the coffee beans from this cafe are “nourished with Mozart music to foster their unique flavours”. How bizzare….I have only heard of pregnant ladies listening to Mozart music to enhance their babies’ brain development. Er.. coffee beans have brains too?
Day 2: Hong Kong

Took a ferry to Hong Kong for some dim sum at Sweet Dynasty (very good I must say!!) and shopping. Actually, it was a 6-hour long shopping marathon, with me ending up with 1 big bag of goodies from Sasa and 3 humongous bags of clothes from H&M. Enough said.

Day 3 & 4: Photoshoot in Macau

Well, you’ve already seen some of the fab photos 🙂 Here’re some shots of an old style cafe where we took our casual photos.

Day 5: Macau – Last day
Spent the last few hours at the Venetian. The decor reeked of opulence, so much so that I thought it was rather contrived. That however, did not stop me from taking photos. 😛

No makeup except for eyeliner and mascara. 😉 Had enough of makeup during the 2 days of shooting.

I really enjoyed the trip, thanks to JW for his amusing antics and great company, as well as to our fabulous photographer and make-up artist. They were the ones who made this trip special. 😉

Overseas

September 19, 2008 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

I’ve been travelling rather extensively these days. First to Japan for a work trip, then to Macau for my prewedding shoot.

I love being greeted by the unique characteristics of each city and that air of unfamiliarity (albeit usually doused in dust and smoke). Each city’s facade is shaped by chains of historial events dating back to centuries long gone. It is no wonder the architecture of each city serves as a inextricable link back to its past.
Macau, for one, has gorgeous buildings with details that are reminiscent of its Portuguese heritage. Yup, we braved the sweltering heat and blazing sun with our dear photographer and makeup artist just to capture these details.

So amazing right, especially for someone like me who shuns the sun like a vampire. Here’s a sneak preview of some of the shots taken.

Most of the following pictures were taken in a village in the outskirts of Macau, where the most delectable portuguese egg tarts are found. In case you are wondering, the Lord Stow’s Bakery here has some of the best portuguese egg tarts.

Anyway, back to the photos..I’ve never seen myself looking this moody in photos before, but I must say this look is growing on me.

Oh, did I also mention that my hair might frighten the faint-hearted? So drama..haha but I asked for it. I’m always game for a makeover. 😉

Photos courtesy of KC Wong (http://greymatterphotography.blogspot.com). More pics can be found in his blog, but you might have to wait a while for the evening gown shots and casual shots to be out. 😛

Edited to add : Other photos are up!

Casual wear

I love all the photos!! Kudos to our photographer, KC and my makeup artist, Gin for the fantastic work. 🙂 We really liked the locations that were painstakingly chosen by KC. Only a true artist can capture such captivating angles and moods with utmost precision. We hardly had to pose at all!

My makeup artist, Gin, was the person behind my dramatic transformation. Without the hair and makeup, I probably would have ended up looking really awkward in the moody shots.

Here’s to the wonderful people who made our photo shoot a really enjoyable and memorable one:

My favourite Chinese/Cantonese songs

August 17, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
I sang some of my favourite songs at Party World Liang Court yesterday. Singing karaoke in Singapore has never quite been my cup of tea, but after emerging as the dominant singer at a 3-hour session yesterday (actually the only other person present was JW), I think I might just get addicted to karaoke soon.

Party World is actually a Taiwan franchise, and it was one of the usual places frequented by yours truly when I was staying in Beijing, simply because the prices were so ridiculously low there compared to Singapore. Needless to say, I was also attracted to the opulent decor and the sumptuous buffet spread. It is really quite a shame that Singapore’s Party World outlets pale in comparison to those in China and Taiwan.

Nonetheless, I must say that the Liang Court branch in Singapore, being the newest Party World outlet, was very nicely renovated. I was impressed by the stylish decor and cushy sofas, reminiscent of the Party World outlets in China/Taiwan. Go check it out for yourself.
Here are some of my favourite songs:

情人 – Beyond – 家駒
My favourite song by Beyond:

Beyond has been my favourite band since my teenage years. In fact, I know most of their songs by heart. Crazy me was so starstruck then that I attended their autograph session and hired a cab to chase them all the way from their hotel to the airport. 😛

Yes, I was THAT mad. My parents can attest to that. They got really worried about my studies as I spent practically every waking moment watching Beyond videos and LDs (no VCDs and DVDs then). They must have thought I was possessed. Hahaha.

海闊天空 – Beyond

My favourite female singers 孙燕姿 and 张惠妹:

我不难过- 孙燕姿

记得 – 张惠妹

剪爱 – 张惠妹

勇敢 – 张惠妹

我怀念的 – 孙燕姿

Curling Tongs

August 11, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
I’ve been using curling tongs for the past month or so as my curls have died down and I haven’t had time to perm my hair. It’s pretty fuss-free once you get used to it, and I love how my hair always turns out looking different every time. So versatile.

1) Cascading curls

2) Wavy effect

Notice the drastic change in my skin colour. I look jaundiced here, thanks to the warm lights in my bedroom. 😛

Inspirations

August 3, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments

1) Classical/Baroque Inspired Interior Design

My dream bedroom would look something like this:
(courtesy of: http://parisapartment.wordpress.com/)

Now, if only I can find a bed frame and lampshades that look like that. At reasonable prices.

I am intrigued by the juxtaposition of the flora wallpaper against the dainty crystal lamps as well as the elegant classical-style white mirrors which adorn the vanity area.

2) Photography by Tim Walker
(From his book entitled Tim Walker: Pictures)

For the uninitiated, Tim Walker is a world-renowned photographer, known mainly for his contributions to high fashion magazines such as Vogue, W and Harper’s Bazaar.

Super model Lily Cole’s cascading chiffon gown lends a touch of glamour and softness to the dilapidated surroundings, and is a perfect complement to the ornate spiral staircase.

Looks familiar? Yes, he shot the Guerlian advertisement as well.

I’m particularly bowled over by the colours and the vintage feel of this picture. It has a certain dreamy old-world charm that just makes it so surreal.

A Gift

July 27, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
Received a new pair of shades from the sweetest boy ever! I must say it was quite a steal too. 🙂

Shades, a must-have for sunny days and days when you have sore eyes haha.

The redness in my eye has subsided, but it still itches sporadically. Itch, be gone!

I must say I look pretty ridiculous in spectacles because my lenses are horribly thick. My colleagues have been teasing me about my “new” appearance:

Colleague 1: Wow you got sore eye??? How come one eye only? Must have peeped at some guy using a telescope right?

Colleague 2: Still very pretty lah. It’s a different look. Erm..you look very studious now.

Here comes the ultimate:

Colleague 3: Wah..who are you??!! Who are you?!!!

-_-“””””

With such colleagues, who needs enemies?

Just kidding…. I thoroughly enjoy their company. 😉

Alright, time to go to bed and nurse the itchy eye.

Shoppaholic

July 26, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments

I realized I can’t resist the urge to shop online. Regardless, I have to say that I have cut down on my expenses tremendously in recent months, so I definitely deserve a little pat on the back ya? 🙂

That being said, I just remembered that I bought 5 pieces of clothes (2 dresses, 2 tops and a pair of shorts) from Vera Moda when I was in China and also mineral make-up from Everyday Minerals. I reckon it’s a sign of old age. More importantly, it’s a sign that I need to tighten my purse strings even more!!

Thank goodness for my recent pay adjustment. I desperately need to save up for our new home. For the time being, I guess I should also shelve my plans to perm my hair.

In addition, I am praying hard that I don’t shop during my upcoming work trip to Japan in late August and my prewedding shoot in Macau/HK this September. Friends, please keep me in your prayers ya????

National Museum – Night Fest

July 22, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments

I’m starting to see the museum in a different light now. I used to frequent the museum when I was a kid, but since then, it seems to have transformed into a contemporary cultural playground that appeals to all ages.

Last Saturday, JW and I went to the Night Fest at the National Museum to catch an enthralling performance by Italian aerial acrobatic dancers (I don’t know if that’s what you call them).

Suspended in mid-air against the backdrop of the National Museum, the dancers performed ballet moves and acrobatic stunts to beautiful classical melodies. It was certainly a refreshing change from the usual dance performances.

Everything was quite perfect, except for the fact that we had to stand amidst hoardes of people in the sweltering heat. Ok, I’m exaggerating. It wasn’t that hot, but I could smell perspiration in the air. Eeks.

Anyhow, the performance was absolutely enchanting and very captivating. See it for yourselves:

Before the performance started, we also had lots of fun viewing the various exhibits in the different galleries. I especially loved the film/music and fashion galleries, for obvious reasons. 🙂

Going for lunch followed by a nap now!

Weddings Galore:

I attended a friend’s wedding at The Regent a few weekends ago, where I finally understood the meaning of love at first sight. I fell in love instantly with the ballroom setting- black tablecloth embossed with baroque motifs, red table runner, black chairs. How very unconventional.

I love the use of black in interior design. It spells understated elegance. That jolly well explains why we are using quite a lot of black in our new home as well. I can only pray that my parents don’t flip when they see the end result. 😉

The attire for the night:
I was trotting around Tanglin Mall and Friven & Co in my gown and 3 inch heels. Must have looked quite bizzare…Haha

The Eye

July 22, 2008 by Regina Chow No Comments
It’s funny how the only time that I get to blog is when I am on medical leave. I woke up with a red and swollen eye today, hence I decided to call in sick for fear that I had contracted an eye infection.

To my surprise and utter relief, my GP said it’s only an allergic reaction. I wonder how accurate his diagnosis is, but thus far, he has never quite failed me. We’ll just have to see how it goes.

I’m feeling quite spent now, after receiving a barrage of smses and telephone calls this morning from various parties. It’s only when I am away from office that I realize how many phone calls and requests I receive each day. It’s appalling. Both my telephones (DID & mobile phone) are perpetually ringing throughout the day. My e-mail mailbox always exceeds the mailbox size limit and my day is constantly packed with meetings and presentations.

I am petrified. Can you imagine how many missed calls and smses I would receive when I go on my honeymoon (I’m planning for 3 weeks)? Yet strangely enough, I still enjoy doing what I do. Very much in fact.

I have to thank my lucky stars, but more importantly, I really have to thank the friend who referred me. 🙂

********
Edited to add:

Ugh..thanks to my eye, I missed a ride in one of Singapore Flyer’s private capsules plus a sumptuous spread at Seafood Paradise. Darn.
