Hey guys, are you still gorging on those CNY goodies? CNY is that time of the year when you can devour the most sinful snacks without feeling guilty, just because everyone else around you is doing it too! I’ve been eating so many chocolates, bak kwa and pineapple tarts that I can sense a sore throat coming my way!

Two days ago, I had my reunion dinner with my in-laws at Dian Xiao Er, one of my favourite mid-tier Chinese restaurants. In line with the festive cheer, I threw on a tangerine ruffled dress to partake in the season’s festivities!

If you ever head down to Dian Xiao Er, be sure to try the flavourful duck and crispy cod fish as these are highly raved dishes that you won’t want to miss.

Most of my girlfriends fear their in-laws, especially their MILs because of their supposedly nitpicking ways and unreasonable behaviour. I have to count my blessings because my in laws are some of the most understanding people in the world and I look up to them as role models in many ways.

I think this quote captures the essence of Chinese New Year. It is not only that time of the year for endless feasting, but it is also that time of the year when families come together as one to bask in the purity of family bliss, knowing deep inside our hearts that we are who we are today because of our family’s guidance and upbringing, and most importantly, that familial love will always stand the test of time.

My second lohei celebration was with JW’s friends at Szechuan Douhua Restaurant, located on the 60th floor of UOB plaza. The spectacular view of the city skyline and Marina Bay Sands is one of the key highlights of the restaurant.

At S$28++ per pax for the dimsum set, the food was not bad as there was a wide selection of dim sum. However, if given a choice, I would still prefer Royal China or Peach Garden .

The main grouse that we had was the service, or rather, lack thereof. The service here was somewhat lacklustre due to the long waiting time and the servers’ lack of attentiveness. There was hardly any other guests around but the restaurant seemed so severely shorthanded that we had much difficulty trying to attract the servers’ attention.

We certainly didn’t see this coming from a supposedly top class restaurant. Save for the picturesque scenery and ambiance, Si Chuan Dou Hua didn’t quite cut it for me. Nonetheless, we did have fun chatting away and taking photos of the beautiful view before it started pouring!

Chinese New Year came early for my family this year as the first lohei celebration started last Saturday at my grandmother’s house.

It has become a tradition for my extended family to gather at my grandmother’s house for reunion dinner every Chinese New Year. We hardly get to meet one another usually as we all have hectic schedules but without fail, year after year, we would all make it a point to meet and catch up during our reunion dinner.

This year, we have a new addition to our family. My baby cousin Shuhai was born in January and joined us just in time for our reunion dinner! It’s funny how most newborns tend to possess an extraordinary ability to sleep soundly throughout the entire day. Likewise, Shuhai has this superpower too. She slept the whole night despite all the noise from the telly and our endless chatter.

And here’s presenting one of my favourite cousins, Shuya, Shuhai’s elder sis. She’s a whiz at iPhone games (she was holding her mum’s iPhone in the photo below), is extremely bright and not to mention very hyperactive too. I could barely keep up with her energy level and was hopelessly exhausted by the end of the night!

Oh and kids nowadays are so vain! We took a couple of photos, but this photo below was the only one that passed Shuya’s QC test. LOL!

The month of January is usually a busy period for everyone at the office as this is when all our overseas-based colleagues return for work plan discussions, training and team building. After a whirlwind of events, I’m glad we finally have some time to recuperate during the upcoming Chinese New Year holidays!

After our department teambuilding at ECP, I met JW at Novena Square 2 for dinner at Seoul Yummy. My friends have been raving about this Korean restaurant for eons, and I was elated that I finally had the opportunity to try it.

We ordered the set meal for 2 persons and the food was so yummy (I love puns!) that I practically wiped out everything on the table single-handedly. I actually finished the whole bowl of kimchi soup by myself! No wonder JW always tells me that my eating habits are burning an enormous hole in his pocket.

Erm…well, I guess you would have realised by now that food is an integral part of my life (in addition to shopping) despite my petite frame! Sometimes I wonder if all the nutrients have gone into my long hair!

Speaking of which, looking at these photos is making me terribly hungry again! I would kill to have a bowl of kimchi soup right now.
