Marmalade Pantry

January 16, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments
It’s about time I shared this restaurant with everyone, if you haven’t yet had the chance to try it out.
The crabmeat linguine here is a favourite of mine.

The tomato sauce is very flavourful and its smooth consistency leaves you wanting more. You’ll also find that the chili and pine nuts lend that extra burst of flavour, adding variation in taste. It’s so very addictive!

Marmalade Pantry serves all-day breakfast too, which led to my other half’s decision to order french toast drizzled with chocolate sauce. I thought it was pretty average.

(JW: It tastes better than your crabmeat linguine loh!)

I mean, how different can french toast taste?! Give me my Tunisian from Wild Honey anytime. πŸ™‚

That Bee Hive Place

January 16, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments

JW: Shall we go for pancakes?

Reg: Where?

JW: At that bee hive place?? You know, at Mandarin Gallery?

Reg: What bee hive place?! (in deep thought) Oh you mean Wild Honey!

That’s what happens when you sleep more than 12 hours a day, though I have to give him credit for associating bee hives with honey.

Christmas Day Celebrations

January 15, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments
On Christmas Day itself, we attended my dear friend V’s party with a couple of other friends. There were many young kids at her home, all of whom had boundless energy as well as an insatiable thirst for toys, games and food. We had a great time playing with the kids and reliving our childhood with more advanced and exciting toys!

Presenting, my favourite game of the day:

In the evening, we popped over to Karen’s place for a traditional Christmas dinner, complete with a sumptuous spread of turkey and other delicacies painstakingly prepared by the host and her guests! JW and Ethan were also given the honour of carving the turkey for all the ladies at the table.

The star attraction of the night had to be Koji’s baby, Andre, who came aptly dressed as Santa Claus. All he needed was a white beard and a sack full of presents to complete the look! We had a ball of a time posing and playing with Andre. He is such an adorable and sweet-tempered baby! Oh and did I mention that his cheeks are so chubby we just couldn’t keep our hands off them? ;P

What’s a Christmas party without gifts? So there we were, presenting gifts to one another and sharing in the joy of giving. Most of us unwrapped our presents on the spot like gleeful little children!

After the gift exchange, we spent the rest of the night playing Taboo, which eventually culminated in a session of charades and win, lose or draw. Who would have thought that this would get everyone’s creative juices flowing? The hilarious drawings resulted in such uncontrollable bouts of laughter, I bet the neighbours must have thought we had all gone mad! We had so much fun that the party only came to an end at 5am!

The Pinnacle@Duxton on Christmas Eve

January 14, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments

After my office party, I adjourned to The Pinnacle@Duxton to catch up with Yvonne and friends at her mini house-warming party. πŸ˜‰

Yvonne and Adrian took us on an amazing tour of their home and its surroundings. Besides its architectural design, The Pinnacle is famous for its sky park and its accompanying 360 degrees view of Singapore.

All of us instinctively whipped out our cameras to snap photos of the picturesque scenery!

I can totally imagine how beautiful the view would be at night, especially with the dazzling street lights and lit up buildings in the CBD area.

Some parting shots with Calister and Liyuan before we went back to Yvonne and Adrian’s place for drinks and food. We were so engrossed in our conversations we completely forgot to take photos with the hosts in their home!

Office Gift Exchange on Christmas Eve

January 12, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments
Over at my office, we celebrated Christmas with our annual gift exchange/potluck party on Christmas eve.
Pretty girls all in a row. πŸ™‚
This was the time of the year when we all played the role of santa claus, distributing presents to each and everyone early in the morning. It was a sight to behold. Imagine receiving presents in place of work files on your desk!
We also had a massive department-wide S$2 gift exchange where we were each supposed to buy a present worth S$2. We then proceeded to put all the gifts in a sack and conducted a lucky dip for everyone. I received a packet of yoghurt drinks. Not too bad for a S$2 gift. πŸ˜‰

Birthday Celebrations in Dec 2010

January 10, 2011 by Regina Chow No Comments
I love the month of December, not just because my birthday falls in that very month, but also because the festive holiday mood is just so incredibly infectious, it instantly brightens up your day.

I used to have so many ideas about how I want to celebrate my birthday, and fine dining at one of the best restaurants in Singapore was always key. I love food (yes, in spite of my tiny frame), but I have also come to realise that fine dining does nothing much for me. Blame it on my palate or lack of patience, but I just can’t bring myself to sit at a restaurant for hours waiting for minuscule morsels of meat or vegetables dressed in bubbly froth, among other exotic concoctions, served on oversized plates. I like to be able to share generous servings of food with people I love.

Last year, my early birthday celebration was held at Coca Restaurant. I love the steamboat buffet! The wide selection of delectable choices (especially the tender beef slices), sauces and soup base will leave you wanting more!

I had lunch on my actual birthday at Nanbantei with Jo, Karen, Ethan and JW. These lovely people made my day and I really appreciate them taking time off their busy schedules just to spend my special day with me!

Nanbantei is a Japanese yakitori restaurant that I frequent. My favourite dishes here are the Gindara (grilled cod fish) and the tomato pork maki. I’ve been bringing all my friends here for the past few years and I gave my brother a birthday treat here as well!
The cod is grilled to perfection and topped with tasty Teriyaki sauce. The sweet, succulent flesh is enveloped in a layer of crispy skin and is absolutely divine to the palate. It literally melts in your mouth!

I’m still waiting for Karen’s photos, but I couldn’t resist posting up the photos of the food first!
Reservations are recommended as there is limited seating capacity.

If you’re interested, Nanbantei is located at:
14 Scotts Road
#05-132
Far East Plaza

For dinner, JW took me to Shashlik, my favourite restaurant for steak and dessert (I loveee the Baked Alaska here!!). Shashlik holds fond memories for us as we have been regulars at the restaurant for as long as we have dated.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to savour the Baked Alaska dessert that day as they only serve it twice a week now. Well, there’s always next time.

But I did get to have my yummy steak! The specialties here include the traditional Russian Borsch soup (super delish!) with sweet fluffy bread rolls and the Shashlik steak. The Shashilik steak does not come with any sauce, so you can taste the natural goodness of piping hot, premium beef on its own.

Again, reservations are recommended because despite its obscure location, you’ll be surprised that it is often fully booked!

Shashlik is located at:
545 Orchard Road
#06-19
Far East Shopping Centre

Melben Seafood with Jun

January 7, 2011 by Regina Chow 3 Comments
One weekend not too long ago, Jun and I decided to have dinner at Melben as I’ve never been there before.

Jun and I have been friends for more than a decade now, and I’ll like to think that we still look as youthful as the first time we met! (For those who beg to differ, we would appreciate if you could hold your tongues forever. :P)

I know I’m slow. Practically everyone I know in Singapore has already tried Melben Seafood and given it their thumbs up. For the uninitiated (otherwise known as “suaku people” in Singlish), Melben Seafood is a famous crab joint tucked away in an HDB estate in Ang Mo Kio. Ordinarily, one wouldn’t expect a neighborhood seafood restaurant to draw huge crowds, but Melben is in a different league altogether. Waiting in line for at least half an hour appears to be the norm. In addition to that, we had to wait an additional 20 minutes or so for our food to be served.

Well, good things are worth waiting for. Ravenous by the time our Crab beehoon and Pork Ribs in Butter Sauce arrived, we devoured everything at lightning speed in a bid to satiate our hunger. I liked the milky flavourful soup that came with the crab beehoon and the pork ribs soaked in delicious buttery gravy.

It’s not difficult to cook seafood (especially crabs) in my opinion. Rather, the difficulty lies in complementing the seafood with the right sauces to enhance the overall flavour. In this instance, Melben is certainly unrivalled.

For those who have yet to give Melben a shot, here’s the address for your easy reference:

Miu Miu Nails

January 4, 2011 by Regina Chow 2 Comments

Just had my nails done today by Clara. They’re so pretty I just had to post a photo!

I was utterly amazed by Clara’s artistic talent and how effortless it was for her to draw these immaculate little birds on my nails. My nails were done in the blink of an eye!
